It's a place that I been wanting to try to scratch it from my list. FYI this is my personal experience! I encourage you to try it for yourself My food had no flavor, food was cold, and definitely not for me Service it's poor the only good thing it's the ambience Other than that that's it I would never go back again, I don't think the price matches the quality at all Surprised that it's being around for a minute I wonder if it was just a bad day?

First time going to this chain. This place is large so good for large groups! We had an after work event and they were able to accommodate our group of 10. The menu seems authentic like you will find at many Mexican sit down restaurants and they show the year they first made that particular item. Guacamole is prepared table-side. I got the 1923 Sonora style enchilada which was different than the usual "wrapped" type of enchiladas. The fried egg on top was a neat addition to the red and green sauces. Restrooms are nice and if you still need more drinks they have a bar to hang out at for a night cap.

STEPH JUDGEMENT: A great pregame option by Crypto arena if you're not feeling the usual suspects at LA Live. We happened to be walking by on our way to a Kings game when we spotted this place and the sandwich board outside mentioning their happy hour. We've only eaten here once before and liked it, but never thought to come here before a game since it's not right near the arena. But since we've been venturing farther afield to places like Pine & Crane, this place was actually very close. Best of all, there were no crazy crowds like at yard house, etc, and their happy hour deals were quite good. We bellied up to the bar and got some margaritas to start, and got some of their happy hour food, like a salad and quesadilla. The food and drinks were good, and the service at the bar top-notch. Would definitely try again!

Went on a Tuesday afternoon about 5pm before an event at Crypto. Super convenient to Pico Station Metro. The building's exterior stands out as it's an old style Spanish building amidst high rises. Initial reaction is "oh". But once inside the ambiance is wonderful. Open roof in some portions of the restaurant (in the back where most customers are seated) provide lots of daylight. Warm "casa" vibes. Immediately "thanked" by 'management' for coming as we were seated by a hostess. At 5pm, the place was moderately full, by 6pm it was very full. Happy Hour runs 3-6 and is even happier on a Tuesday as the El Chollo Margarita prices are lower by $2 more! We did 3 between the two of us! Service is good and we quickly received our margaritas, complimentary chips and salsa (salsa so so but I won't quibble since few freebies these days). I ordered the Cheese Quesadilla from the Happy Hour Menu without any extra protein and it was delicious. It was made from a large flour tortilla and presented in 4 slices with a small, but adequate portion of guacamole. It was really good - melted, decent quality - actually high quality cheddar! My dining companion got a combo plate - taco, enchilada, rice and beans. He was happy with his decision albeit doesn't like refried beans. Not sure if he could have swapped out. He forgot his jacket but our efficient server caught up to us as we hit the restroom before departing the restaurant. We would both easily go back!

For what's considered a Los Angeles staple, I'm not sure as to why. Maybe we dined at the wrong time or maybe this place has gone downhill over its 100+ years, but after our first time dining here, I'm not interested in returning. To start, we had cold, slightly stale chips with no salt. Luckily they provide salt on the table so I was able to make them a little more edible. The salsa was pretty average, decent amount of cilantro though which I always enjoy. Coming from Texas, I've had far better Mexican food at half the price. $30 for Steak fajitas with no rice and a total of 4 tortillas is criminal. The tortillas weren't even in a tortilla warmer. We received a mountain of sautéed veggies with the tiniest slivers of steak I've ever seen buried underneath. At least they were sizzling.

After a day of shopping on the DTLA garment district, we needed a margarita and some delicious Mexican food so we ended up at the famous El Cholo. The drinks and lunch did not disappoint at all! Stellar customer service and friendly team of people, the restaurant was clean and the surroundings pleasant and upbeat. It was a joy and a pleasure for an impromptu lunch.

Customer service was okay, they only came to us once and that was to take our order, they also forgot something we ordered and had us waiting for it knowing it wasn't gonna come. The place is nice and neat, feels very authentic and the bathrooms are nice as well. As for the food, the rice was very hard and flavorless, I've had many Mexican rice and none have tasted this hard or dry. The beans did not taste fresh or made properly. The rolled tacos were okay, maybe a bit too over fried. The chile relleno was good. way too expensive, could get the same thing at another restaurant for half the price have it taste better.

Didn't realize how close the restaurant is to USC! Came to eat with a coworker during site work, I loved the food and the portion. As a non-Hispanic, I definitely found the plate to be interesting but my Hispanic coworker found it just okay. One thing I don't like is how they treated us versus the next table filled with gentlemen in suits. Service for us was different and worse, they did not offer us drinks or options, which was very unfortunate. Otherwise location and ambiance were amazing.

Great place for a big group. We were able to make a reservation for 12 without too much trouble and only a couple of days in advance. The margaritas were obviously delicious. I got the flaca (skinny) and it was very tasty, tart, and strong. I also had the Mexican chopped salad and it was absolutely delicious, with lots of fresh avocado and veggies, and a great vinaigrette. Service was quick. My only complaint is that the guacamole that they said was hot was mild tasting. It was still tasty though, and the accompanying chips were fresh and crunchy.

Good luck finding cheap street parking Huge lot south of restaurant Spacious size interior Lots of tables, cozy vibes & bar area is also cozy Clean spacious bathrooms Medium sized menu, predictable dishes , please don't come here expecting a revolution of Mexican food. Acknowledge that most chain LA Mex food is a standard offering. Is it tasty though ??? Yummy , & tasty, but not mind blowing, average price . I ordered cheese & chicken quesadilla, satisfying, Tortilla soup was off the chains ! Cadillac casamigos margarita superb Top notch hospitality staff Will return for sure & recommend.

The staff is always very nice here and the location has some historical value. My problem is, historical value is the only value you'll find. The prices seem expensive for what you receive. You're playing for the name/reputation, but better Mexican food can be found for a better price nearby.

Delicious food, great service & cool ambiance!!! Will definitely be back especially pre show Orpheum theater!! Ivan the bartender was professional, friendly & took great care of me!! Angel the Guacamole master was Awesome & so friendly! I'll definitely be back!!

As much as I respect the history of this place. As one can see with their numerous photos of celebrities at their establishment. The food was devasting. Perhaps the best thing I ate here was their soda water. I ordered the blue corn tortilla enchiladas. First off, the texture of the meat is pink and weirdly shredded, it looks like salmon meat. The flavor was bland. It was definitely not authentic mexican food. The rice and beans were okay in taste. The flan was okay and nothing special. This place has the story, location, and "it"factor. Now if they can get the kitchen on board. They should build a whole new menu and fire whoever okayed the enchiladas. The service was good.

And of course, where even at 8am there's no judgement passed... -The Airport Bar. Speaking of Traveling... The type of bar you choose is important. But sometimes, the Bar Chooses You! Bar Magnolia quietly enters the chat. It was October 11th, 2025 and my wife & I just checked into Hotel Figueroa in DTLA. (EPIC REVIEW Coming Soon!!!) While we were waiting for our room to be ready, we decided to check out the Hotel Bar Lounge... First thought, Color me Impressed! High ceilings, Natural lighting, classy decor, comfy couches... Yeah, take your time with that room, we'll wait! So we plopped down onto their sofa, waited for a cocktail menu, and let the "we left the kids at home with Grandma; let's enjoy being kid-free for the night begin". $18.00 cocktails....Lets Goooo!! Looking back at the Photos, I can't exactly recall what we ordered... Was it a whiskey sour? Was it a paper plane?? Honestly, Who cares! They tasted great. I was sitting across from a beautiful woman. And we were responsibly adulting. What more could a guy ask for?? I'm glad you asked! After a long car ride in, sipping on water, then the first few sips of my cocktail, I suddenly had to go... Luckily, the restrooms are located just adjacent to the bar area and DAMN are they clean!! Hey, if a bar restroom is well taken care of, you know the place has Class.... And Bar Magnolia has the Class to Match! Of course, there is bar stool seating at the bar... Middle Man (Aka waiting for your server to come check back in) In addition to the bar top stools, there are also low top tables, and a few couch-chairs with a low top table for more intimate conversations. Besides those $18 craft cocktails, a short, well Curated list of bubbles, vino and draft beers are all up for grabs. Unfortunately, we had stopped to eat before we arrived (bad move on our part), but next time, and THERE WILL BE A NEXT TIME, we will definitely partake in their food menu (cause damn, did it look GOOD!) So whether you are a guest of Hotel Figueroa, you are leaving the Crypto Arena after a concert and want to paint the town red, or you are simply just wanting to sit, relax and enjoy a nice cocktail at a classy, upscale, but not so pretentious Cocktail Lounge... Bar Magnolia is your place! Well, it's almost closing time, they are about to call for Last Call, so order us another round, bottoms up and Cheers to us!!!

After being seated 40 minutes later, service took 20 minutes to take our order, and another 30 minutes to be served. Food was 'okay', there was no entertainment, and multiple customers were unhappy with similar slow service... but some of them were comped parts of their meals.. we didn't even get a sorry until we spoke to the manager on our way out, expressing the reason was they had no idea it would be this busy on a Thursday (they take reservations, so...), and also blamed an 'all you can eat promotion' they promoted earlier, and they only had two serves on staff that night. 4) We were late to Mr. Wanderlust, but were luck to get two seats at the bar after another couple left. We order two cocktails and a coffee... and were charged just over $140. Then, we were asked to move because they wanted to take our seats. We asked about the bill to the bartendar, and she expressed that since she didn't take our original order, she couldn't help us. She simply just had us stand there. We were not going to pay since it seemed way off... until finally we spoke to a guy walking by. We showed him our ticket/receipt and said out loud, "this isn't right". He came back quickly with a revised bill of almost $120. This was still far too high, but no one else seemed interested in helping us find resolve, so we ate it since we didn't want to be late for part 3 of the night. 5) Hoping to salvage the night with drinks and dancing... we tried to find the entrance to Sinners and Santos for their advertised Latin night. We had made reservations here too, and had full confirmation of the reservation... BUT, after finally being directed to the entrance (outside on the patio), they were closed. No sign of why and no one who worked at the other locations had a reason, but they were just simply closed. 6) So, after paying $35 for parking, about $140 in cocktails and food while waiting for our initial reservation at Golden Hour and Que Barbaro, $150+ for dinner at Lucky Mizu, and $120 at Mr. Wanderlust... approximately $500 total... we didn't even get to dance. Maybe this place had a bad night, but based on what the workers said, and how they treated us... it sure seems like the norm. Don't get me wrong, the place is cool... some really great experiential elements and nice photo ops... but I would have had a much better time somewhere else. Super disappointed in this place.

The interior never changes... dark... illuminated by candlelight... the bust of Shakespeare over the fireplace, the shelves of old books-- all of it remains intact. But this latest Library Bar seems to have finally dialed in what was always sorely missing in that it showcases a conscientious staff that all seem to know how to mix drinks while treating the customer well by leaving them be. On one night my date and I share a "Black Manhattan," basically a Manhattan with the generous addition of Averna, and it's terrific. On another night, I go for Happy Hour and a few pints of Guinness on draft that are surprisingly proper and go well with their excellent and, I'm told, homemade Hummus & Veggies Plate. The music at this current Library Bar is pretty much on point and is never so loud as to interfere with the conversations that patrons seem to come here for... something you should come here for too, and maybe at Happy Hour specifically if you're looking for a nice bump in your day and to spend an hour, well, happily.

I finally was able to check it off, thanks to a hotel offer with a dining credit. Dahlia is the gorgeous petite space behind the larger ground floor restaurant space now called Cabrillo (formerly Caldo Verde). Dahlia opened as a bespoke cocktail lounge, then began to offer tea. Now it's just tea. There are five 2-tops and two 4-top tables. All food and beverage venues at the Proper used to be under the auspices of famed chef Suzanne Goin and her business partner/sommelier Caroline Styne. They are no longer affiliated with the Proper, but many of their dishes/contributions remain. The last named vestige of them is on the tea menu, "Suzanne's Deviled-Egg Sandwich". The tea menu has several options: Classic, with a seasonal mocktail, or with different champagnes. I opted for the Classic experience, because the mocktail had mocha, not my fave. Server Lluvia was clearly a Dahlia veteran; she offered a tea-smelling of all the teas that interested me as well as crowd favourites. I ultimately chose one of these faves, Mad Hatter's Tea Party, which had passionfruit and vanilla. I declined milk/cream, but did get lemon. There were rock sugar sticks on the table. It seems the selection of tea sandwiches and sweet treats changes every so often, although the vanilla bean scone, dried currant scone, Devonshire cream and apricot orange jam seem like constants. The sandwich selection at my visit were: cucumber, crab/creme fraiche, beet hummus on pita, smoked salmon and Suzanne's deviled egg. All were delish, the beet, crab and deviled egg especially. The sweet treats were: orange fig butter cookie, spiced apple brown butter crumble, cranberry frangipane hand pie, chocolate mocha macaron, pumpkin madeleine, plus the 2 scones. All were excellent. There were no leftovers. A bit pricey, but a relaxing and lovely experience. The room was not crowded when I visited, adding to the calmness of my visit.

It's not surprising given the neighborhood and decor, but I think they lean towards more Japanese spirits and beers. For someone like me who's never been to Japan I feel like there's a traditional Japanese theme going on inside with lots of wood. A few friends and I came here on a holiday before dinner. Happy hour specials were still going on. I'm not sure if they thought they were gonna get that much business on a holiday but I think there's only maybe one or two people behind the bar. Since it was early when we got there, it was still not that crowded. I got the special which was a shot of Japanese whisky and a beer. Great price! Haha. I've walked by before where this place is really crowded so I assume there's a lot more people working behind the bar during the regular busy hours. Just a great place to grab drink drinks.

No exceptions, as I witnessed a family who really wanted to come in but had an 18 yr old so they weren't allowed in and because they had a minor with them they couldn't even sit outside in their seating area. Always good to know. Inside the bar got super busy. The inside was a bit dark but again it is a bar. I like the decor and the bar seating was packed. The drinks were good if you like whiskey they have it along with lists of beer options. Nice spot to try out.

My girlfriend and I ordered two Old Fashioneds made with Ilegal Mezcal. The bottle being used was nearly empty, and as professionals in the hospitality industry, we are very familiar with proper pour standards. It was clear there wasn't enough product left for two consistent drinks. The bartender, Bryan, prepared both cocktails without using a jigger. When I politely asked why one drink appeared noticeably lighter than the other and why he wasn't measuring the pour, he smirked, gave a slight laugh, and responded that he "knows the exact measurement of his glasses." The tone and gesture felt dismissive and mocking rather than professional. Instead of addressing a reasonable concern with transparency, the response came across as defensive and condescending. To make matters worse, a 20% gratuity was automatically added, bringing the total to $71.12 for two inconsistent Old Fashioneds. Precision, consistency, and respect are basic standards in this industry. Unfortunately, this experience did not reflect that. We won't be returning.

As for the drinks, I had their Long Island, carrot margarita, and paloma. All three were excellent and tasted wonderful, but the carrot margarita was my favorite. A group of my friends and I have come here three different times, really wanting to like this place because the atmosphere is beautiful and lively. Unfortunately, each visit has been consistently disappointing due to the same bartender--a shorter male with visible tattoos and facial hair, who seems to regularly work one side of the bar. On all three occasions, we experienced being ignored while trying to order, even as other guests who arrived after us were served first. The first time, we were eventually told "you guys can wait" in a rude tone of voice while he continued taking other orders. The second time, we were never helped at all and had to move to another part of the bar, where a female bartender provided much better service. The third visit was the most concerning. When we tried to get his attention, he responded in a dismissive and rude tone, and as he walked away, we overheard him make an inappropriate comment about us under his breath calling us out of our name and we felt very disrespected so much so that we just left. We completely understand that weekends can get busy, but consistently dismissive and disrespectful service--especially across multiple visits--is not acceptable and we've also seen him be rude to other guests as well. Aside from this issue, the venue itself is great, which is why we gave it multiple chances. I really hope management can address this, as it impacts the overall appearance and experience of the establishment. Thank you.

We adjourned from the bar to the patio to smoke our mini-stogies and sipped our rum. We came early when there were very few members so it was the perfect place to talk and mellow out.
