I'm not afraid of a dive - let's be honest, that is exactly what this place is - so when we pulled up the run down look of the building did not deter me. We drove up to Georgetown to get our Texas DLs and wanted to grab a bite to eat after. We were in the mood for Mexican and the yelper nation told us to go here. The husband ordered carne asada and I got the enchiladas. Both dishes were really good. Positives: Good Food, Super Cheap, Super Fast. Downside, make sure you have cash or be prepared to pay the fee for the ATM outside. Their sign says no credit for orders under $10 but they told us the machine was completely broken so even though our order was nearly $20 we had to get cash. Also, no bar which means no margaritas. I was sans kid and had just left the TX DPS so a margarita was called for. Bummer. read more

This is an absolute ATX staple for me, having moved here only 6 months ago I frequent this Mexican diner so often they know me quite well. At this point all I do is walk in, tell them the number of tacos I want, and they have my chorizo tacos fired up on the flattop grill and are putting them in a To Go bag. The breakfast tacos are great but the lunch plates are trash. I had ordered the carnitas plate and it came with rice and steamed veggies that were cold in the middle and had no flavor on them. Is seamed like they came out of the microwave. read more

This place certainly qualifies as a greasy hole in the wall. don't let that fool you. I tried this place because of Yelp reviews, and I found them to be spot on. While the place had the smell of a small restaurant in Mexico with over "pine-sol'd" bathrooms, it was not that bad. The salsa with the chips is really good. The tacos were delicious. So were the chile rellenos and steak. The good thing about going there with a couple of people is we all got to try different dishes. They were all VERY GOOD. Although Tex-Mex, it was the closest to real California Mexican food I have yet to find in all of Texas! Food is meh. Salsa and chips pretty awful, no flavor. Breakfast tacos aren't bad but have tons of potato egg and not enough meat. Eaten here too many times with my man because it's close to his work and what I've noticed is a common theme, is the credit card machine "not working"(and the bill is over $20, well above their $10 requirement for credit/debit cards) soooo I have to use the conveniently placed atm when we didn't bring cash. So I end up paying an additional $5.50 in charges from the atm and my bank for a mediocre and underwhelming meal that gives me a stomach ache an hour later. Just come for a cheap taco, bring cash and don't stay and eat here. read more

Love this place! Hole in the wall, tiny, small staff, AMAZING food! Always busy, so on occasion, it may take longer for the busy staff to take care of you, but it's not too bad, and totally worth it. It's ok, not bad. Georgetown is overloaded with Mexican restaurants, this is better than most. The good: iced tea, rice and beans, tortillas. The ingredients seems fresh including their guacamole, vegetables, etc. I tried a tamale, it comes covered in a sauce and cheese. I liked it more than I thought I would. Not so good: salsa is very bland, pretty much just tomato chunks. The gordita was kinda hard and dry. I asked if they had any spicy salsa options, they offered me a bottle of Louisiana hot sauce. I'm really only giving it the one star for the excellent fresh salsa. My barbacoa taco was dried out and literally had unattached white chunks of fat sitting in the meat. It was the worst I've ever eaten. The carne guisada looked like dog food and was too salty and mushy to contemplate eating. This place was recommended by my friends. I love this place it beats out most Mexican restaurants here in georgetown and the food is always good.

It is a hole in the wall but bam best tacos out there. Crunchy corn shells pack full of well seasoned meat yes please. I eat them at work family likes them at home all around one of the best tacos. The salsa is packed full of cilantro and I pass on it that gets a wish it was better but trade that for some of there smooth and rich cheese sauce and good to go. read more

This was exactly what we'd hoped for: a down home Mexican restaurant with - quite simply - wonderful food! Years ago I had breakfast here and it was great. I wondered what it was like now. It's terrific. The salsa with chips is outstanding; the tamal tasted like mass; the verde sauce was so good I wanted to ask for twice as much. Perfect little hole in the wall. You don't come here for the vibe or ambiance, but the staff is super sweet and the food is really good! Their breakfast plates inside are delicious and I love the little walk up window for tacos and to go. Every time I come here I leave feeling like I got a really good value! Every staff member I've dealt with has been incredible as well (especially the adorable kid who was helping out in the taco window today). 1st visit today. Chicken fajitas were great! Refried beans & rice were good too! 1st bowl of chips was a little stale (didn't each much), 2nd bowl was just pieces (didn't eat much) & 3rd bowl was freshly made and great! Our waiter was friendly. They were short handed so waiter couldn't talk much as he was running like crazy to take care of everyone! Our ex next door neighbors always liked this place. The experience of ordering at the window with half of Georgetown in their PJs, Church clothes, sporting uniforms and bed hair on a Saturday or Sunday morning is in the top 10 of quintessential Georgetown experiences and the same guy at the order window for the past 12 years. read more

Had a fantastic lunch here. I had the beef enchiladas, which were delicious, and my fiancé had a carne chile dish with Colorado sauce. Both of us walked away happy. Oh Elcharrito..... I'm new to Yelp and have spent some of this morning browsing through reviews, made it to Georgetown reviews and started reminiscing of high school days, the normal everyday things that tend to slip into the far back part of your memory as you get older. And then I saw a review for Elcharrito, and I my head was flooded with memories. At least one moring of every week while in high school, my best friends and I would skip 1st period and hit Elcharrito for some of the BEST breakfast tacos ever! Even now, living in Austin with a much larger selection of places to eat than Gtown, I still think these are some of the best. As mentioned in a previous review this place is popular in the mornings and so worth the wait. But, they are used to being packed in the a.m. and they move the food pretty quickly. If you find yourself in Gtown some morning, stop here, get a taco, take your breakfast to the park and enjoy a nice morning picnic at the gazebo like we used to do. I'm not sure what some of the earlier reviews are talking about, or if they were even at the right place...El Charrito Georgetown is a hidden gem. Yes, it is a small, old, sometimes smelly building, but the food is amazing. Salsa is fresh made daily - a simple blend of tomatoes, jalapenos, onions, and a little garlic - but is superb. The charro beans are to die for. None better - always get these instead of refried beans. Enchilada suisas is great. Chili relleno is fresh,not fried. I could go on, but just go there and try it. My friend and I went here because of the ratings on Yelp. However, we did not think it was that great. My friend thought the food was too salty. My cheese enchilada was floating in oil and was fairly tasteless. I did not care for the chicken taco because it was not white breast meat. Hands down the best breakfast tacos in town! Made fresh to order and have everything from eggs and potatoes to menudo and cabrito (goat in english)! It can be a wait as everyone in town knows where to come get their tacos but it is definitely worth it. Salsa and salt included with each taco and you can always get a Coke to wash it all down. The overall experience was good, and the food as well. I had the crispy taco plate. The taos were as good as other tex-mex places except the taco shell was much better. The taco could have used a little bit more cheese and some salt. Seems most things were under salted. The refried beans seem to have been "cheated" on, as they were combined with "real" re-fried beans and combined with another that were not fully cooked, and somewhat crunchy. The salsa was very good and the chips could have been warmed up. For the price this place can't be beat. The service was god and the food was worth it. read more

I got stuck for a few hours and wanted to check out some local flavor. El Charrito was literally right the corner so there I went. Good warm chips and salsa that at least seemed fresca with some nice cilantro. Got the special which was cheap as he'll and pretty good - enchiladas tejanas. Would have been higher if not for the unmelted cheese in the middle of the enchiladas. Beans were delicious but the rice was badass, complete with roasted pepper chunks. With tip, under 9 bucks. If I could give this place less than I star I would. It was a bad enough experience that after they brought us tea we got up and left. The entire place smells like it is mildewed and the people were incredibly rude. The woman that was working gave us dirty looks when we came in and they did not provide us with menus. When my partner stood up and grabbed two the woman snatched them away and said those were not the menus but then did not provide us with the actual menus.
