This place is amazing! We have been for lunch and dinner. The service is great! The Food is super good! It is a small locally owned Mexican restaurant with a large menu. The combo plate is great for trying a variety of different foods. The Al A Cart Taco menu is great for trying a few different tacos. We recommend the carne guisada, beef fajita, or Barbacoa. Sadly, can no longer recommend. Service is horrible. Today we called in an order for 3 breakfast tacos. Arrived and watched walk ups place and take away orders before a group of call-ins. People were complaining. One person shared that familiar faces and large tippers are served first, the others last. Call in people waited 25 minutes while walk ups 5-8 minutes. Nice, Clean and Friendly..But the food fell a little short for us. I will start with the High Light for me...The chicken Tortilla Soup was Superb. Broth didn't leave you lips feeling coated. They use chicken thigh meat (BIG Plus for me) Avocado was cold and fresh, tender carrots and potatoes...Good Stuff..Chips were old, and out of a bag. Salsa tasted fresh and the Queso was plane, with little spice at all. Wanting to try something different I went for a Gordita with beef. Which turned out to be fajita meat. The guac, cheese and all the fixins tasted great, Sadly the beef was Tooth Pickin Tuff. Rice was good as far as rice goes. Wife had the Enchiladas (beef) which was steamed. No Color, little flavor and made the tortillas soggy. Love their food. Great red enchilada sauce. I have a good palette but I can't put my finger on what is in it. Maybe a good chili powder?? Whatever it is, it is addictive! It is a small restaurant in a small, old building (think Mexican food dive) and on a couple of occasions we've been told they are out of guacamole. It was ok food. I'd come here for breakfast or lunch tacos but San Pedro LImon has my business for that. El Charrito said their credit card machine was broken so we went to the conveniently placed ATM machine on the patio. We were charged $3.50 for using the machine which we weren't expecting. We are new to town and are still looking for that great Mexican place which serves tacos al carbon and a great plate of enchiladas. We have yet to find it. We've tried so many and are now venturing out of town on our search. It is a very small place. You'll get in and out quickly. No margaritas, there's a strike right there. My friend loves this place, obviously other people do too, but it wasn't my cup of tea. read more

The food was great, really cheap lunch specials. Don't let cheap fool you. Food was up to par, and constantly refilled waters and salsas. The day I went, the credit card machine was not working. I was only informed this when I went to pay. They guy offered that I can use his ATM outside, for a $6 bill it doesn't make sense to pay almost $5 in fees. Without hesitation, he says "oh, no problem, you can come back to pay a different day. I'm here every day!" When we went to pay, there's a sign that says "no credit card under $10, ATM available" Well, our total was $12.99, and when I handed the girl the card, she conveniently, AFTER my meal, let me know that the credit card machine is broken. I peer at the screen at credit card machine and there is no error message, seems to be turned on and working. Seems fishy. So yay, I got to pay $3.50 for a fee. Great little authentic mexican cafe just up from the Blue Hole and a couple blocks from the Gtown square! The chow is prepared fresh and is hot and tasty. The service is excellent as well. We've been going to this place since the beginning of covid to support local business. The funny thing is we order the same thing each time and price charged was different every time, particularly by the man(assumed owner). Today we order the same thing over the phone and the worker there would not tell me how much it would cost. After picking up and got over changed again I called the cashier and he said they charge 4% credit card fee and had the nerve to tell me that I owe him a dollar for each time I ate there? Really how about you rerun that $5 tips that I gave you each time. I am disputing the charge and report to BBB and state agency for fraud. read more

I just adore El Charrito. They're famous for their breakfast tacos- and rightfully so. The shrimp enchiladas are my favorite of anywhere in Georgetown and the people are the sweetest! I love the raw and casual atmosphere- both inside and out and it's the perfect place to go to after hanging out at the Blue Hole on a hot summer day. Only thing is it's BYOB and cash only. Came to order three miga tacos and I returned them because the tacos were really really small. It's not fair when you pay three dollars per taco and the tacos had a lot of cheese and probably half an egg in the taco with a quarter of a corn tortilla in it. I went and I talk to the cashier and the cashier said I'm so sorry that's the way we make them. If you're going to charge three dollars per taco please make sure that your tacos are well served. We want to support our local businesses but when the business doesn't want to give you the taco well served for the amount that you paid!? I had to appear for jury duty at the courthouse nearby and just was looking for some place close to grab a quick bite at and found this place to be rather close. There wasn't much of a wait, even at noon, which was surprising. I took a look at the menu and decided to order the carnitas plate. It didn't take long and the server quickly dropped my food off and went to tend to other customers before I could mention that I think I was given the wrong dish. I was in a rush and hungry so I decided to just eat quickly and go about my day. It turned out to be choke verde which, without sauce, the pork was extremely dry. As I paid, it turned out to be the same price but I noticed on my check that the server wrote verse instead of carnitas. An hour later, my stomach was cramping a bit, could have been the spice or the food but regardless, it overall wasn't a good experience here. read more

We stopped here for breakfast on our way to G'town's Art in the Square, having been eager to try the breakfast tacos based on other Yelp reviews. We chose to eat inside instead of using the outdoor pick-up window for to-go orders. (Though there is outdoor seating if you want to use the pick-up window and sit down outside.) The dining area is modest but clean and comfortable. Our server was very prompt and brought us some of the best diner coffee I've had in a long time, and the mug was never more than half empty. We went way overboard and got Migas, Chillaquiles, and 2 breakfast tacos. The amount of food that came out of the kitchen 10 minutes later was staggering, and each plate was only $5.49. Neither of us could finish our plates! Both dishes were authentic, hearty, and GOOD. Moving onto the breakfast tacos, we were again shocked at how big they were. Each taco must have contained 2-3 eggs plus the meat, for $1.50/ea. Both the bacon-egg, and the ham-egg tacos were fantastic, nicely seasoned, and super fresh. They are clearly made to order using real, wholesome ingredients. Our service was excellent and very friendly. Food is delicious, abundant, and cheap! Some of the best Tex Mex I have ever had. It was a glorious surprise. We were in G Town for a kid's birthday party, but needed to have lunch first. We drove around hoping to find a hole in the wall mexican food place, and like an angel emerging from the clouds, there was El Charrito. Low key, nondescript, I knew it was going to be special. They had a walkup window on the side of the building, and the line was very long. The clients waiting ran the gamut of all races and genders. I had a combo plate with a crispy taco, enchilada, rice & beans. It was superb. Really good home made shell, perfect sauce, good cheese, great beans and rice. Solid. The best of its kind. My husband had a combo plate that was a couple of different tacos, one being fajita. I won't soon forget the bite he gave me. Flavorful chargrilled beef with grilled onions and peppers on a really good, fresh tortilla. Definitive. Standard-setting. I promise, it's worth a special trip. I love when this happens! read more

On Friday nights, I meet up with friends in G-Town. We always want Mexican food and usually end up at El Charrito. Why? 1- There is never a wait. Our preference is the delicious food at Dos Salsas, but you have to wait around for an hour sometimes for that. No thanks. 2-The staff is friendly. It feels like you are part of the family when you are here. 3- Patrons can pay seperately for meals at the register. None of the waiting around forever for your server to split the checks. Just get up and pay when you are ready. The big drawback here---the food. It has been pretty inconsistent for me. Sometimes I like what I eat, but other times not so much. The food is so "meh". The fajitas are not seasoned well and not the right consistency. The chili con queso is tasty, but that is kinda hard to mess up. Also, many times they are out of the item I've ordered. My dad was craving Mexican food and I was just in desperate need of food after spending six hours on the lake. We made the short drive to Georgetown and ordered food to go from this place. My dad ordered the mixed fajita plate for one, I ordered the beef fajita plate for my husband and I got the Chicken Enchiladas Suizas. We placed our order and they said it would be 10-15 minutes. A random note there's a park about 1 block from this place called the Blue Hole. Since we brought my dog Samuel we walked around a little bit over there while we waited for our food. I had set my time for 15 minutes so that we could head back to get our order. A few minutes before our timer went off my dad headed back to pick up our food. The guy at the counter was quick and courteous. The servings are very, very generous and the food was tasty. Overall great experience. Quick service to go and great food. El Charrito was the first Mexican restaurant I went to in Georgetown, lo these many years ago, after moving out into the countryside outside of Jarrell from Austin. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Story is, El Charrito started out as a taco wagon going to construction sites. (Does this story sound familiar?) Over time, they did well enough to build their own restaurant. However, if you go there in the morning any workday, you'll have to work your way between the pickups (fortunately, I have my own, so I fit right in - well, my truck does, anyway) to get to the take-out wagon. Seems, if the taco wagon won't come to the construction workers, the construction workers will go to the taco wagon, or something like that. Anyway, great food, usual Mexican food restaurant (helps if you speak Spanish), try the pork dishes, they're great. read more
