It was a very hot day but the umbrella made it manageable. No one seems to sit inside in Barcelona! We had drinks and ordered several sushi rolls, a salmon with avocado and one with tuna. Fist come, first service, no reservations but if you go on a week night, you should be able to land a table on the 2nd floor rooftop with all the twinkle light vibes, great local Vinos & Cava (by glass or by full bottles) plus a nice Catalan menu to please even the pickiest palate. At first I thought it would be a tourist trap because it's just adjacent to the Barcelona Cathedral but I stand corrected - It is so lovely! You don't need to dress up, but you won't be sorry if you do. Bottles are poppin' & It's the place to be simply fabulous! Started with squid rings with Aioli and tomato bread. Shared a sandwich and shrimp with garlic tagliatelle pasta. Slightly spicy, but not overwhelming. Service is professional, prices are reasonable & the overall experience is upscale yet not pretentious. Yes you should make it a dinner date! If you can manage to get a table outside as the view is amazing. The food is super good just make sure to let them know you need your meat well done if you want medium well. The workers are all super sweet and very helpful. I will be back for sure next time I am in the city. read more

Lovely rooftop restaurant with a great view and delicious food. The atmosphere was really nice with the Kenny G playing, reminding me of home (my mom really likes jazz LOL). Each dish on the prepared menu was flavorful and exciting to consume. The roasted peppers in the salad with scallion were a powerful combination, and the fish in the baked hake was just so juicy. Had lunch here with a big group of 9 on our trip across Europe. This was one of our last meals together and it was the best. The sushi was insane. The host blatantly seated both other couples and when we pointed out that we were there first he basically accused us of lying and said we were not the first group there. Lovely rooftop bar/restaurant in the middle of the busy shopping area. We stumbled on this while walking the streets. You go upstairs to entrance. They provided heaters which was needed. The service was good. I ordered vegetable paella which was just ok because it needed more spice. My husband ordered a shrimp and pasta dish which was tasty. Just around the corner from Sagrada Familia, this place is above a museum and has a lovely exterior terrace. It is nice and shaded, we were here around 5pm and the breeze and shade were a refreshing escape from sun. We started with the Burrata which did not disappoint, the server asked if we wanted bread with tomato for the burrata and we happily accepted. We also tried the cannelloni. It was creamy and very tasty, but was not expecting it to be completely filled with meat. Most others I have tried have a veggie / cream center with some meat but this one was all meat. It paired nicely with the creamy white sauce, there was loads of it which I liked. Espresso martini was tasty but a bit sweet. One draw back is that we were not offered the sushi menu, but ended up liking our selections! There was a sax player in the plaza below that really elevated out entire experience. This place has a cute little rooftop bar and restaurant that we noticed while walking the streets. We only ordered sangria but it was really tasty, and the wait staff was quick and polite. They had heaters which was great since it was a little cool out, and the building it is located in was gorgeous. It took us a second to figure out how to get to the top but there are signs posted so keep an eye out for those. Easy to order in English as well. read more

Very chill restaurant with an awesome outdoor rooftop seating. In the gothic district of Barcelona with a lot of cool sights and people watching to do from up there. Can't beat the Paella, friendly staff also offered us blankets when the sun started to go down and get a little colder. Very nice spot! read more

We absolutely loved the food, the view, and the vibe at El Cercle! We were seated outdoor on the roof that overlooked a cute, bustling Barcelona street. Perfect place to go for some good food and great views. Food (7/10): Really delicious food. I enjoyed the Rigatoni a la cardenal (with meat), which was absolutely delicious. I wish it was a little big larger of a serving because it was so good that I wanted to have more and more. We also got a few tapas and sides, which were closer to average, but somewhat accepted since this restaurant focused on higher end food, not tapas. Atmosphere (7/10): This certainly was no hole-in-the-wall, culture filled tapas restaurant. El Cercle was trendy and chic (especially the rooftop) with a cute bar and a higher end dining area. Great for lunch or an early dinner while it's still light out, so you can overlook the street full of people wandering. Service (7/10): Our servers were all super attentive and helpful. We were seated and served quickly. It was chilly when we went, so they ensured a space heater was near us and brought us blankets as well. read more

Not a spot to eat at in my opinion. Tourist trap restaurant that has you sitting in a nice square up one story so what you are paying for is the view. Our waiter was rude and unhelpful in deciding on a dish. They have two menus which should have been the red flag. A Japanese menu which the waiter said don't order from and a traditional tapas menu. I ordered the tuna 1/2 portion and the 1/2 portion of calamari wife ordered 1/2 portion of the octopus. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't good. Not worth the money. read more

Kind of a hidden gem... have to walk up a bit discreet entrance but very cool. The hostess was all smiles and welcoming - got us seated as quickly as possible. I spotted this cute little rooftop after shopping all day in the Gothic Quarter. It's very fancy and you need to buzzed up and even given a token to use the restroom. The views were beyond amazing and the food/drinks were delicious. For appetizers we ordered croquettes, which are priced individually, and the patatas bravas. For entrees we each had the pasta bolognese. While the ambiance and food were amazing the service could have been a little better. It was a little spotty in the beginning and the waitress wasn't the friendliest. Great spot to hang out and have some drinks. read more

Chose this place mainly because of the view. Looks like it was straight out of a movie. Looking down you see all the shops, all the people, it's just great. I got the yakisoba and the portion was small, but the flavors were delicious. A bit on the salty side thou. The waiters were friendly. My friend ordered a dish that had a chili pepper in it and she ate it unknowingly and when we asked for milk, they just gave it to us for free. They probably felt bad when they saw how red she got ;) read more

The terrace here in 1st floor, in sunny time, is like we are in heaven. After a shopping, for a bit of extraction from the crowds, it's perfect for lunch. Use to be one of my favorite restaurants when I first visited Barcelona back to 3 years ago. Last night I ordered couple of classic tapas and salad, wasn't as good as they use to be. Condro pepper was very greasy and over seasoned. Jamon, of course was brought in large size without asking, and quite dry. The waiter was polite, but seems having quite a lot conversations with his peers. I'm not sure if the price has been gone up, but it is now expensive for me. read more

Ok I think I'm being generous with the 4, but I have to say their food here is truly delicious so I will give them that. Very delicious food. The service... not so much. I get that a restaurant is busy but to walk by several times not even say "hello" "I'll be right with you" like anything acknowledge I'm here you see me with my son. We sat at one of the tables that was closest to the bar it 30 mins to get a food and drink order in. Then I attempted to ask servers around me for one of the items I ordered and never got. He said ok then never came back. Finally some eating and drinking my one drink I asked if I could have the last thing I ordered and a glass of Cava, he never game back with the glass of Cava (they had to take off the bill) and finally brought the last tapas which was chips. As in potato chips. Not fries but chips that he rips open a bag in front of us and drops in a bowl. It took over an hour to get a bag of chips on the table.... kinda funny. I had my birthday dinner here with my mother, and the restaurant terrace is spectacular. You need to reserve ahead of time because it seems like a coveted type of place, and the hostess/servers definitely act like it. Those were my only negatives; this was the only place at which every person I encountered was rude and had sort of a "snobby" attitude. We definitely didn't have a language barrier because my mother and I speak perfect Spanish, and it wasn't a cultural service thing in Barcelona either. Other than that, the Japanese dishes and tapas were excellent (priced accordingly for the place), and we had a lovely night. After a long walk in the area today, we had the idea to stop in and hopefully enjoy the food and scenery. We walked upstairs and we're greeted with the rudest server we encountered during our trip in Barcelona. I understand the terrace can be busy, but the way we were greeted was exceptionally unprofessional and downright pretentious. We would've been happy to have spent the afternoon there but due to the receptionist there we enjoyed another terrace in the area and enjoyed our afternoon prior to getting back on our Regent cruise. The outdoor seating area is just above a fountain that Rick Steves describes. We had a bottle of rose. Dry. Perfect. Edamame. A slice of squash, a slice of sweet potato, and 4 very large delicious prawns. Hadn't been sitting too long but had definitely been sitting before I got it. Flat bread with tomato? Don't get it. Chewy rather than crisp and crumbly. Caesar salad. This came with panko breaded chicken (think chicken Katsu). More chicken than greens. Dressing was forgettable. But here's the interesting twist!!! Deep fried onion crumbles!!! What a daring addition!! Croquette. Haven't been a fan but this was acceptable. My wife liked it. read more

I loved this place. We stumbled upon it during the evening and decided to have dinner here. The roof top terrace is beautiful. We were seated on a corner table over looking the placa below. We were actually there for a drink at their roof top bar, but were told that we needed to order food as well. No problem. We decided to try the soup, a shrimp dish and a paella dish. Everything was delicious! The ambiance, service, and the food could not be better. It was a beautiful and romantic night in Barcelona at El Cercle. I highly recommend this restaurant. Papatas Bravas was ok too, but the oysters were my least favorite just because it did come with any accompaniments.
