El Camino was a great little Mexican spot in the heart of Fremont area - it's got a party-like vibe with the flags and the lighting. I went on a Monday night, so it was super empty with no waits - but it seems like there might be some wait if you go on the busy weekends, so plan ahead! They take reservations. I got the birria burrito (pictured) and my boyfriend got the chicken enchiladas. The burrito was huge!! It was definitely the most bang for your buck - overall it was like the size of my face. And best of all, it was delicious. The enchiladas were a lot smaller, but you get to choose the sauces on it and the beans and rice that come with it were very good as well. I would recommend coming in during their happy hour: 4-6 pm if you can. They have great deals - $4 tacos, great appetizers, and drinks! I went during an off-hour, so unfortunately no happy hour. Horchata and chilaquiles were my menu items of choice and they were both really great. They do give a time limit at the table at busier times, but they will also seat you before your whole party arrives. I was a bit bummed that there were free chips and salsa brought with the water and there weren't sides (rice/beans) that come with the orders. They should add that. SERVICE: The attention to the patrons by the service staff (from the hostess to the bussers) was great. They were alert (not aggressive), upbeat, and positive. They seemed proud to be a part of it. Getting the orders out from the kitchen to our table seemed to take longer than average. But, that is fine, I suppose. We weren't in a rush. AMBIANCE: This is a well-decorated establishment. It feels authentic. There are Day of the Dead pieces, and colorful crape paper mache designs hanging from "clothesline" across the restaurant. FOOD & DRINK: I ordered a classic scratch marg for me ($13) and chips & salsa ($6; molcajete-yum!) for all of us to nibble on. Our server was also kind enough to pack extra warm & fresh chips in the to-go container with our leftovers at the end of the night because the three of us loaded up while waiting. For my meal, I ordered a kids chicken quesadilla ($7.50) w/ kids side rice & beans ($3). It was solid but I don't recall it wowing me. Make a reservation for the "patio" because it's always busy, but worth the wait. Cute surroundings, delightful drinks, and food that slaps! The menu isn't extensive or expensive but they do it all very well. I can't stop eating the Bistec (my personal hack: ask for Mole Negro instead of the Coloradito that comes with). Food is generally pretty good (guac, mole), but with a few duds on the menu (queso fundido). Service is an equally mixed bag. We seem to find our way back every so many years, have a few enjoyable meals, then invariably get some rude and/or inattentive service and write it off again. I feel like this place is positioned in a way that they'll always have plenty of new customers coming in, so maybe service isn't a priority. My other gripe: they exploit a dark pattern of giving you two or three fewer plantains than you need to finish the guac. If you make the mistake of asking for more, they'll bring you a whole basket and charge another ~$7. So you get to choose between repurposing a tablespoon or so of guac, or paying for a huge basket of plantains you don't really need. The one star is because I'm cranky. Went earlier tonight and got seated right under a blaring speaker in the back that they wouldn't turn down. Waited a long time for water and a drinks order. Server didn't bother to check in on us during the meal. And no, it wasn't that busy - this was before the dinner rush. Ran out of plantains, then sat for ten minutes waiting. Entrees arrived, but still no plantains to finish the app. Had to convince people twice to leave the app with us, since we weren't done. Then they gave us a hard time for setting a plate on the empty table next to us, in spite of our table being comically small - too small for both the app and the entrees. Finally, they pull the whole "extra plantains" trick on us. Yeah, I'm sorry. Forget this place. read more

Good brunch place for groups because it is not super crowded and you can get a last minute reservation. We had a group of 5 and were able to make a reservation the night before. The food was good. My friends and I have been going to the El Camino for many years but lat night a very rude manager gave us a tongue lashing for changing our table before we ordered so we could find a quieter spot in the restaurant. Upon walking into the restaurant, I immediately fell in love with the decor of the restaurant - it is sooooo colorful with a lot of Mexican elements to it. The back patio is cute and an ideal outdoor choice for a sunny late morning. We ordered the Majillones (mussels) El Camino for appetizers and tried the fish taco and the Camarones (shrimps) a la Diabla for entrees. The mussels were fresh in the creamy tomato soup. The shrimps with the Diabla sauce was tender, flavorful. If you are not good at spicy food, this dish can be a bit spicy. The fish taco was mediocre. Overall the food was tasty. Still love the food, the drinks, and the atmosphere is so warm and cozy even with the outside seating. They have done a very nice job at COVID precaution offering seating that is self contained in mini tents or igloos as well as seating on the back deck that is in fresh air but covered. All of the food and drinks here are good, but the place in general has heart in everything they do from the menu to the service to the décor. Still a favorite for me. read more

Some of the friendliest service I've encountered, but unfortunately the food quality didn't meet our expectations. We got the tostones with guacamole, which were actually just plantain chips, but the guac was really good. The carne asada tacos and shrimp tacos were really meh. Not a lot of flavor, too much cream sauce on the shrimp tacos, and the refried beans that came with both were not very flavorful. They both came with salsa verde that was too mild as well. For $14.50 per plate, they really weren't worth it. We'll go to Fogon or Agua Verde instead next time. Sadly, we haven't found a lot of good Mexican food in Seattle. The drinks looked good and the back patio is cute, so this may be a good spot for happy hours if you just order some margaritas and guac. read more

Came to Seattle with a group of 10 for a concert. We chose to visit El Camino for the mimosa tower. Even though the mimosa tower wasn't what we thought it was they were still delicious. The food was full of flavor and definitely met our expectations for authentic Mexican food. We had friends with us that were first timers to a few different menu items so it was fun to introduce them to that. Our server Fabian made the experience absolutely amazing. He was able to offer suggestions on drink choices and provided extensive background on the tequila tasting some of our party ordered. A must go place for Mexican food in Seattle, definitely! Came for dinner and have enjoyed almost everything we ordered. We got the salsa chips and guacamole- the usual one without any doubt! The guac was so tasty and flavorful, chips were hot and warm- much needed on a cold winter night. We ordered the pork Tostada sandwich and went creative by ordering the butternut squash veg enchilada, it was yummy and I wanted more! The food does not justify the price. The food is decent, but the prices, especially for little things like chips and salsa, are terrible. After sitting down, was asked if I wanted chips and salsa for the table. I said yes, but had I known that I was actually being offered a small pile of chips and some guac for $12, I would have never ordered it. House margs were fine and priced at $11 each, which is closer to the norm in the Fremont neighborhood. The burrito was also good, but not worth $16-$18 depending on protein. Overall, burrito and margs were decent, but being tricked into buying $12 chips and salsa left a bad taste in my mouth. Nice patio on the backside with fireplace, cute decorations, and great menu available up until closing time. My friend and I dropped in here after seeing a movie and finding several other options closed on a warm summer evening. We were pleased to spot El Camino as we were driving along and were enticed by the warm red mood lighting calling us over. They have a front patio as well as a back deck. I had been here for a birthday party once and had only previously been in the front part of the restaurant where it was loud and dark. This time I was really able to appreciate the nuances of the space. The host let us know we could sit anywhere but that they'd be closing in about half an hour. We were able to order food and drinks, kick back and relax, and enjoy this lovely space before heading our separate ways. Parking on the adjacent street was no trouble on a weeknight and we both agreed we will be back again to enjoy the beautiful evening breeze from the patio deck!
