I used to come here last year and loved it. It was bomb. However, I went last night and the food tasted literally like nothing. No flavor, no spice, nothing. The salsa tasted like tomato water. There was almost no one eating there which was also unusual to me because last year it was packed all the time. Quality must have gone down I guess. A Redlands institution for I don't know how long. All I'm certain about is that it was one of the first Mexican restaurants I ate at in the early 90s while visiting my family. In Michigan then we had awful takes on Mexican food, so anything seemed better in California. After a few tries, my favorite remains what I tried first, their nearly incomparable pork chili verde burrito. Yum! Balanced flavors, excellent beans, you'll be full enough for hours after that! Like a roadside take-out spot, there's some seating out front, but the rapidly changing parking lot tells the real story : Grab-n-Go. The menu is simple with variations, and the price to quantity ratio is also very good despite inflation. I usually prefer a street parking spot, but those are competitive and rare since the adjacent businesses tend to occupy most spots. In the shadow of the I10 freeway is a worthwhile stop. read more

Simple burrito joint that has handmade tortillas! Seating is all outdoors. There are tables in the front and back of the building. Service is usually pretty quick. This place is nostalgic for my husband because he grew up eating here. He loves their garbage burrito. I ordered their #6 value meal which comes with two taquitos, rice, and beans. Ordered 2 rolled chicken tacos to take home. Once home I bit into the first one and it was horrid. At 4.25 a taco, what it seemed they did was take canned chicken and blended it up into a paste, then rolled into a corn shell. It was as though I was eating CAT FOOD! Gag. The only thing that was really a little enjoyable was the guacamole sauce, though it was not chunky and it was blended up with maybe mayonnaise or sour cream, rather running and made the CAT FOOD a little worse. Really great fast casual place. I've gotten the steak garbage burrito and it was really good - might ask for less beans next time as they overpowered any steak taste, but still really good. Their guacamole is really light, but it doesn't brown as fast and still tastes good and really creamy. I also got the taco and a rolled chicken taco. The taco was great, a little too much cheese, but it was a great snack for my pup haha. They were def not stingy with the amount of guacamole that came with the rolled chicken taco, which was great. I'll def be ordering more burritos and regular tacos, plus guacamole. They're also super fast getting your order ready and very nice to you at the window. I'm lucky to get the opportunity to try a variety of restaurants throughout SoCal working in the Crane & Rigging industry. This is another gem found along the way! My coworker and I tried the ground beef enchiladas, shredded beef taquitos w/ guacamole & cheese and they definitely didn't disappoint. Everything was delicious, shredded beef was flavorful, the ground beef was amazing, red enchilada sauce was jumping with flavor and even the creamy guacamole was on point! I can't comment on the burritos, but from the looks of them and how many we saw being served I suspect they are at least par to what we had. I also have to note that the employees were very nice and welcoming. It's clearly a well established restaurant, I'm guessing 30+ years but it's obvious they take pride in ownership from the looks of things. read more

Maybe it was an off day but everything today was not great. I think my favorite item was my Arnold Palmer. I mistakenly got chips and cheese and a side of guac and I can't believe they serve the chips and cheese. It was super greasy and pretty gross. Chips were just sopping with grease. And it's covered in melted cheese that doesn't belong on chips (don't mistake this for chips and queso) The guac was ok but it's like a creamy guac so don't think you're getting ranch market style guac. The burrito was decent but it's like the way they folded it this time- it was broken open and the layers of ingredients were weirdly separated when we got it. I love that you can sit outside and service is definitely friendly and quick but this recent experience leaves a lot to be desired. read more

Pretty good first experience. Plenty of seating. Clean tables. All outdoor, no indoor dining area. Service was good. Pleasant. Food was good, fresh. Beans lacked a little something in flavor. Sour cream guacamole sauce had great flavor. Rice was good. Chile verde was a little off. Not sure if sauce is placed on it when serving it, didn't taste like it cooked in it. Handmade Tortillas! El burrito is amazing! I have had several different burritos and they're all amazing. If you're Mexican these are not traditional Mexican but I promise they're tasty. They're more like American burritos but I love them. You order through a window and they are pretty quick with the orders. We've been living in SW Florida for five years, but I was recently blessed with the opportunity to return to my hometown of Redlands. For weeks, I'd asked my husband, "please can we go to El Burrito?" Bruce took me to El Burrito. Once upon a time, I ate at least once a week at El Burrito. My favorites were and are the special burrito with onions and rolled chicken tacos. Other good items are the enchiladas and always the beans and rice. We were living in South OC before we moved, so in more recent years, I'd only gone to El Burrito a couple of times. Bruce says I made him go there 3 times, but I only recall two. The tortillas are the same as ever!!! These are handmade at the store just like everything else and this is the burrito flour tortilla, not that trash they sell in the store. The corn tortillas are delicious fried up the old school way. So, there is a style of Mexican-American Chicano food that El Burrito has perfected. I am not kidding these beans I had the other day were better than ever. I think they have added MORE delicious lard. Also, the rice seemed fancier, with pieces of tomato. The salsa is the exact same, maybe a little milder, but you can always ask for chile. Prices are fair; portions are generous. The ladies are nicer than ever and the place is freshly painted, well-maintained, and there are picnic tables in the back and the front. If you don't get what type of food this is, don't go here. Don't write reviews saying you wanted carne asada and not ground beef. Don't bitch and moan about animals out back, eat out front or take it home and eat inside. Don't talk about how there's no margaritas. So, I've made El Burrito guacamole at home because I love their style which is NOT "guacamole" as seen in most areas of Mexico or El Torito type restaurants. It's avocados, sour cream, garlic powder, and a little bit of chile. I saw them making it a few times and this is pretty much what it is and I really like it. Maybe you don't! Cool, good for you. Places like El Burrito are what makes lunchtime or casual meals special for ordinary people. This is a family-owned business that has been serving their same recipes for many years, but based on what I had the other day, making small improvements along the way. The menu board I put is the same board since I started going there in the 80s. They just repaint it using the same style of lettering and colors and update the prices. There is no replacement for the real El Burrito and Bruce (Philly man) agrees with me. He says it's the So Cal version of the hole-in-the-wall real Philly cheesesteaks back home. Last time I went, the Tacos seemed to have lacked any seasoning. Tacos are my favorite thing to order here, since I was a lil kid. Hoping they'll get back to the proper seasoning soon. I was disappointed that all the trees & Cactus were gone off the front of the premises. these things are needed to help with blocking the heat we have here in So. I've been an El Burrito patron since the early 90's and they still got it. EB as a roadside stand. First come, first served on the seating. It's not a dine in restaurant. If you're lucky, you can nab a picnic table in front. If not, there are more tables and parking in the back or you eat in your car or bring it home LOL. My go to order is BRC with guacamole. Freshly made tortillas to order that are eye rolling goodness. Simplicity at its best. They have one standard sauce/salsa that is full of flavor. I tried the beans and they tasted the way I make'em at home. Flavor of the beans were delicious. My girlfriend gave a 4 out of 5 on the rolled tacos. She said the inside was more of a paste and no chicken was inside. The side of salsa was good too. The service was ordering at a window and food quickly received warm. The outdoor sitting was very clean. The star of this place is definitely the homemade tortillas. The hard choice is choosing between rice or the beans. If you're looking for homemade flour tortillas, this is the place. If you're gluten free, I wouldn't come here. The menu is a good size, I like that it doesn't overwhelm you with too many options. I tried the "garbage burrito" with ground beef and enjoyed it. While the inside of the burrito was pretty average, the flour and the salsa were what made it. The service has gone down the last few times I have been here, they have the rudest lady always taking orders (she's usually wearing blue mascara). The past 3 times I've went she rolls her eyes after everything I ask and does not greet customers, she will just stare at you until you speak first, no hi welcome or hello. Firs timer thought I'd give it a try especially since they have the handmade tortillas and normally hole in the wall spots are a jackpot. I got the chile relleno burrito with chips and guacamole on the side. The food was good prices are reasonable wait wasn't long but the customer service was not really welcoming. They give you a death stare no hi , no bye , no thank you, and no smiles. Like they were bothered to serve others. Pretty average burrito for a great price! I got their garbage burrito with ground beef and overall it was pretty standard, however the tortilla tasted amazing and fresh! And for only $8.55 (before tax) is hard to come by. Service was super fast and me and my friends got to eating within 5 minutes of ordering. The outdoor seating area was nicely lit and there were many tables for people to sit at which was nice. Overall, a nice casual spot to get fill late night burrito fix. This place is an Inland Empire classic with their homemade tortillas and iconic outdoor seating. I discovered this place about a year ago and didn't consider it to try anytime soon.
