The tostones were crispy & cooked to perfection. The only thing I was missing was ojo(garlic smashed w/ oil). In PR,they use mayoketchup sauce (mayonnaise & ketchup mixed) everywhere @home,restaurants,etc. They put it on everything. That is what the waiter gave me to dip my tostones. I ordered the ojo but by the time it got there I was done. I ended using the mayoketchup sauce. I ordered a passion fruit juice to wash my food down w/. It was just right not too sweet! This is no longer an upscale (or the good) place it used to be. I ordered 4 different bottles of wine from their menu, they didn't have any of them. Dad asked for a glass for his beer and they brought him a 7oz plastic cup. The house wine, only half bottle was left.... Service was slow and did not cater to us, even though they comped a round of drinks since they didn't have most of what we ordered. You are right over the water and the views are great, but there are many better places a few minutes away with the same view. Skip this place. It's run down. The bathroom stunk badly. read more

We go there everytime we are in the area. Food is always good. Service is not that bad, but I have never had any problems. Kids entertain themselves feeding the tarpons with the extra bread or left overs, throwing them over the balcony. Adults sometimes join the kids on this. Viee is always aweaome. read more

El Bohío is a local favorite in Joyuda, PR. I've been going for over 10 years and this place has survived hurricanes and earthquakes while maintaining it's core values and service. Now with the pandemic, they're really trying to keep their doors open and provide the best service amid the circumstances. I love coming here to celebrate milestones, bring people who have never been to Joyuda or the west side in general and for the main attraction: all the sábalos that swim right below the bohío. I happened to visit twice during this past Christmas and had two different experiences that I'd like to share: 12/25/20: Fast service, complied with our requests for additional distance from other guests, delicious food (ordered the Dorado Al Ajillo with Yuca and it was divine) but a really tiny and overpriced dessert (the crème brûlée was smaller than the palm of my hand). 12/28/20: We were allowed to go in at 7:30 although the place was about to close the front doors 1 hour and a half before the curfew (at that time curfew was still at 9pm) to serve all the customers in a timely fashion. Since we were last, our food (mofongo with churrasco and a shrimp penne pasta) took about and hour and some minutes to come out. Although it was delicious, I understood why they closed the doors when they did. We got our food at 8:40pm, after asking about its status twice, and had to eat pretty quickly to leave before the curfew started. My pasta was good but I regretted not getting the fish again due to the slight difference in pricing. You do have to be aware of the location of this restaurant before complaining about the price. Joyuda is a tourist destination, just like Old San Juan, so the prices will reflect that. Also, most of the seafood you'll consume is fresh and local and that in itself is worth paying their prices. If you love seafood, want to support veteran local businesses and are in the mood for some lovely views, go check them out. read more

Came in for dinner, we were greeted at the door, got temperatures taken and vaccine cards checked. They sat us quickly at a table by the water with a beautiful view. They brought complimentary bread and small salads to start, while we made up our minds on what to order. We started with a couple of piña coladas and a fried fish appetizer (bolitas de pescado), my wife ordered the shrimp mofongo (mofongo relleno de camarón en salsa criolla) and I had the seafood rice soup (asopao de mariscos). Needless to say, the entrees were delicious! We'll add this place to our list of restaurants to return to! read more

1/12/2016- Apparently on weekdays not many restaurants are open around this area. El Bohio was open and we decided to try it. They have private parking right in front of the establishment. When we walked in we noticed they had inside (A/C) and outside seating. We decided outside because it was on the water. Views are spectacular. We sat for a while before our server came to greet us and take our drink order. My sister wanted Kola Champagne....they were out. She asked for Malta, nope. So she had Old Colony Piña. They serve this awesome garlic bread...warm, right out of the oven. And the waiter brought a pitcher of water....serve yourselves. We ordered 2 orders of surullos, and the appetizer platter. Six of each of the following; empanadillas de chillo and langosta, bolitas de queso, surullos, trocitos de pescado, bolitas de mofongo. They were served with mayoketchup. Flavor was ok. The mofongo bites were my favorite. Service was ridiculously slow. Tables all around us were dirty and I believe there was only 2 waiters. The manager needs to staff better. read more

I have been going to El Bohio since 1981. I have taken my parents, kids and grandkids over the years. We always have had a good experience. Went there on April 1 and the service was awful. I would ask for bread and they would say ok and never return. We brought our friends for their first experience and I was embarrassed. Last night, Tuesday March 30th, 2021, I went to this restaurant which isn't running at 100% of course and I got there around 5:30pm. Our food got to the table at approximately 7:30pm and left at 8pm. There is no way on earth, even with COVID going on that our food, which was cold, could take so long. This restaurant used to be very good. Right now, it is not worth my time and effort . Okay I'm sorry but I don't know what restaurant these other reviews are describing - the experience my brother and I had here was nothing short of wonderful. We arrived right around sunset, looking for a place that looked out over the water. Check. Parking was easy at a big lot across the street. Love it. We were greeted pleasantly at the door and quickly had our drink orders. Bingo. The menu was very diverse and the server knew exactly which fish were locally caught. The restaurant has a gazebo-like pier that juts out into the water and we strolled out to watch the beautiful sunset. The food came out shortly after deliciously prepared. We enjoyed broiled red snapper, mofongo, rice, beans, fried plantains, broiled chicken and a veggies. The service was outstanding with multiple waiters checking in on us and making sure we had everything we needed. We didn't speak much Spanish but that was not a problem as the severs spoke English well. Dessert looked delicious but we were too full to order. After our meal our server let us toss our scraps to the fish swimming in the water right below us! It was so fun to see all the large fish going at it! El Bohio was a recommended restaurant by a friend. I would say, if you enjoy seafood, this local restaurant is the best restaurant on 102! Some of the options you have are, you can either dine inside in the restaurant where there is air conditioning and great decor or outside on their waterfront terrace. Some of the perks of eating outside are, not only do you get fresh air, you get to feed fishes that come up to the pier. I don't remember exactly what we had but we managed to order as much as we could off the menu. The food was excellent. I loved fantastic view. read more

Now for the food, coming from a city that is over 1000 miles from the nearest ocean, its pathetic that i can get fresher seafood in chicago than i can on a deck over the fucking ocean. The food had absolutely no flavor, no seasoning, no spice, no garlic in the fucking garlic grouper. This was by far the worst $140 meal (for 5) that i have ever had... In any country. Do yourselves a favor, if you want seafood and you are in front of this restaurant... Drive 30 miles to Long John fucking Silvers and save yourself 30 bucks. read more

The chillo (red snapper) and mofongo was really good, I ate the chillo to the bone. the cocktail not so much, so I don't recommend it. We came because the Fodor's guide book suggested this as the best seafood place in the Joyudas area known as la milla de oro which is populated by several seafood restaurants along the coast. I'm from Puerto Rico but I live Stateside, and so when I go to PR to eat at the local eateries there are a few things I expect them to get right, which are the staples of the Puerto Rican diet: rice, beans, and plantains. Well my wife and I were very dissapointed that a restaurant in the island couldn't cook those things the right way to save their lives, and if they can't cook those things the right way, what could I expect about the rest of their food? So let's get cracking, the Mofongo I ordered wasn't a Mofongo, and by God that would be like going to an Italian restaurant and ordering sphaghetti, and getting Kraft's macaroni and cheese. That was embarrasing for my wife and I who are ardent foodies. My wife had the Chuletas, (pork chops) which were not pork chops but some other cut, and although the cook managed to cook them up moist, they were lacking in flavor, and were not fried, which is the traditional way. I would categorize the food as average at best, but the staff is super friendly, and the view is exceptionally beautiful, as the restaurant stands over the water. read more

Horrible service, and even worst, horrible food! Last Friday they had a quinceañera party, huge crowd and they were not prepared to serve them or regular guests at the same time. Food for the kids was served 2hrs after we ordered, (because I told them I was going to leave if it didn't come in 5min). Our food was served, half an hour later. The food...I ordered shrimp with baked potato, the baked potato never arrives, because they used them all for the quinceañera party (they never offered to change before serving). The shrimp was the WORST I've ever tasted, they were very gummy, definitely not fresh. My mom's food, bad as well. As soon as the food arrived I ordered the check because we wanted to go ASAP from this place. Again, never arrived. We had to get up and go to the front to pay. There, we found out people were canceling orders for the same reasons. The waiters were very disrespectful, screaming to clients and telling us that it wasn't their fault. Of course it was. No manager available! I told the waiter that they should have told us that it would be a long wait, at the moment we arrived, but he (very altered) said that he was not going to do that because his boss would of get mad at him for throwing clients "off the place" (which is my decision, not his). It is most unfortunate that Yelp decided to hide a review that is pretty much on point. Four signs that I should have paid attention to when I visited El Bohio in Joyuda PR: 1. People that had been waiting for quite a while (upwards an hour!!!) to be seated left without as much as an attempt to be accommodated; 2. After getting our elderly mom and aunt seated we were told that we had to go back to waiting because they needed our table for a larger party; 3. People were leaving food almost untouched on their plates (without bothering for a take-home container!); 4. After waiting to be seated for close to a half hour, another half hour for appetizers, and almost 45 minutes for the main dish, the food was uneatable. If you request Red Snapper what you get something else so full of bones and disgusting, but yet they insist it is Red Snapper, the most disgusting mofongo soup (as that is basically what it was). The servers try to be pleasant and it is this lace only positive mark. They lack in quality of food, promptness, and the prices are outrageous for the garbage you are served. If you are looking for a place to eat fresh fish, this is the place. it sits on top of the water where you can see fish swimming around the support posts. The food is very affordable and flavorful, and the ambiance is relaxing. Try the appetizers including the fish soup. The portions are relatively large compared to other places.
