Have been a loyal Moes customer for years. Stumbled upon this place by accident- nothing against Moes which is still great but this place is much better, IMO. Food always tastes fresh, and the nice touches like a warm, slightly crunchy tortilla on every burrito make this place the best Mexican food I've ever had. Lack of tables (3 plus a counter) increase comfort level if dining in; most people seem to order take out. Expect to wait the amount of time one would think it would take to make a fresh burrito, because that's how it's done at el Azteca- no pre-made food is sold here. As a frequent customer of Chipotle, I must say that I would take an Azteca burrito over a Chipotle burrito any day. Something about the way they prepare it (any kind of meat OR vegetarian) tastes so good-- unlike any burrito I've ever had. The owners make you feel like a friend and even humor your attempts at Spanish. Sure, there is limited seating and you have to pay a few dollars more than the typical Americanized, fast-food version of a burrito--but it's more of a take-out place anyway, and it's definitely worth an extra dollar or two! read more

This is mine and my Son's favorite Mexican place. Love the tacos and green salsa. Had 1 negative experience (not food related) otherwise would be 5 stars. Ordered food to go and when I went to pick it up I was told it would be a few minutes. 10-15 minutes later, they realized my food had been sitting on the counter the whole time I was there. Not the end of the world, but no apology. Side order of chips or something would have been the right thing to do for the inconvenience. You really cant go wrong with the food though. read more

We ordered pork and steak tacos (topped with their green sauce) which were delicious. The beef enchilada with rice and beans was very good. They have generous portion sizes and reasonable prices. Just moved to town and exploring some of the local restaurants. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but believe me- this place is awesome! It's mainly a take-out place although there are a few tables set up. So far, I've had the steak burrito and chorizo burrito. Both amazing. I have also had the chips and guacamole. They give you SO much guac, and it is really fresh and delicious as are the chips- right out of the oven. A steak burrito and a Jarrito (yum!) was $11. The burritos are pretty big so if you are not a big eater, you could make two meals out of it. To top it off, the owner of the restaurant is super friendly and makes you feel like you've been eating there for years. This place has the best mexican food in all of Bergen county. The portions are huge, the guacamole is fresh, I love it and look forward coming here often. They have the best sodas I've ever had too, like the sangria soda and the lime soda. The burritos are great. Every time I go to a Mexican restaurant I order a burrito, and this place has far the best I've ever had. But then again, everything is excellent. The owner is also incredibly nice, and checks up on you and how you like the food. Some people have pizza on Fridays. My husband and I instead order from El Azteca. The food is fresh and consistent and everyone there is friendly. We like our food very spicy and they modify the dishes to our tastes consistently. I love the ceviche, the guacamole, shrimp burrito and the chillaquiles...just not all at once. First we must comment that if you cannot swing $7.50 for 4, fresh, made to order tacos, then you should just skip this wonderful little establishment and head over to Taco Bell -your loss!!. The guacamole rivals any that of any we have ever had in Mexico.if it is not up to your expectations, then again, again, go to Taco Bell. The taco "shells" have been fresh every time we ordered them. They are not the crunchy, processed shells usually served in this neck of the woods. Rather they are softer and made fresh every day. Everything we tried is tossed with plenty of delicious , fresh cilantro. And if there is anything you would like tailored to your own particular tastes, don't be shy, just ask. They always try to accommodate. Cons: They do not automatically serve certain condiments that you might typically expect, such as sour cream, or salsa. (Definitely request the salsa, it is excellent.) You need to know to request sour cream, salsa, shredded cheese, lettuce, etc... Remember the food is made to order, so give it time. You can eat "in" at the establishment, but there is no wait staff. Simply order and bring your food to the table. There is no liquor license, so bring your own beverage and relax.... This was DELICIOUS! Not much for decor, but I went in by myself for a quick meal and was very happy. I had four of their mini tacos, each one a different meat. Homemade salsas complimented the food well. Man behind the counter was very pleasant and the food was out in a few minutes, very hot (temperature), and flavorful. I've had a hard time finding genuine Mexican food at low prices. This place was just that. The steak burrito was great and the man there was so nice and friendly. Free chips and salsa make appetizers unnecessary (though the tostadas are great). The small area really makes the restaurant hard to dine but it adds to the feel of the restaurant.
