    neighborhood chicken bun
    Kristine P.

    - Large portions - Very busy but food comes out relatively "quick" in about 20 minutes - Lots of seating and tables - Very hot inside which makes it a bit uncomfy - Neighbor chicken is flavorful, juicy, gigantic. 10/10 - Spicy walnut shrimp is yummy but more similar to sweet chili sauce than walnut - Veggies are nice and tangy to counter the rich flavors. Rice could be softer - Crab rangoon egg roll is more of a Baltimore crab egg roll rather than crab rangoon - no cream cheese taste and seasoned with old bay. Tastes best without sauce given

My friend and I shared one order of the walnut shrimp and it was enough for the both of us! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We were both expecting walnuts in our shrimp but there weren't any maybe that's a known thing but it surprised us. The bao buns were different from any I have had before. They were larger and less sweet not bad just different! Nonetheless It was delicious, I can't wait to go back and try more. The chicken bao looks amazing. The location I went to was packed and there wasn't much space to sit. Definitely feels more like a to-go place. Despite it being packed service was excellent and fast.

Amazing food. Have not been to this location but my wife got it for me from their Camden Yards stand. We had the Spicy Bird and Tofu Bao Buns which were out of this world. Plus, the portions were way larger than we thought.

This is probably the most recommended food spot in all of Baltimore -- I saw it constantly on social media and heard about it from friends too. At first I was like, no way it can actually be that good. But it really was that good! I love comfort Asian food, and this place was BOMB. The food was legit sooo good, and my only regret is that I didn't get more sauce, because their chicken was so moist and flavorful that I wanted to drench it. I do wish they did delivery, since I had to make a specific trip out here for it, but honestly it was worth going out of my way for. BTS apparently even booked the place out for a night -- that should tell you everything you need to know!

When in Baltimore, you MUST have Ekiben! After a meeting, I stopped there for takeout, which was a clutch decision. Parking was a little challenging but nothing to deter me from stopping. I went on a Saturday around 1 pm and it was PACKED!!!! Seating is limited so be prepared to grab takeout at peak hours! Upon walking in, I noticed how vibey it was! All of the staff greeted me and everyone was just really happy to be there. The restaurant was so cute and eclectic, but again, very packed! We were hungry lol. I told the staff member that it was my first time there and he gave me a few recommendations. After reviewing everything, I settled on the tempuras Broccoli and the Neighborhood Bird Bun. Service was very quick and they had us in and out of there. They even had stickers for us to grab! Food: Tempura Broccoli-first few bites were amazing. Then I got to the bottom of the box and the house made vinegar threw off the texture for me as they became soggy so I didn't get to finish them. Overall, they were solid but if you do not like vinegar and have texture issues, they're not for you. I'll give them a solid 3 out of 5. Bun: the bun definitely met my expectations. The chicken was huggggeeee and likely was a chicken thigh, which was a good touch. Ur was juicy and fried to perfection. The herbs provided a well balance and the bao bun was everything. I smashed!!! I would definitely go back and try a different bun. Overall 4.5 out of 5 stars!

Ekiben is a fusion of Asian and Ethiopian cuisine with a twist. It's located in the Fells Point area in Baltimore. It's a little bit tricky to find as the main sign is up as a sign which can be easy to miss. The space is intimate with limited self serve seating. They also have outdoor seating as well. Started out with the Crab Rangoon which was crunchy and crispy, filled with the Rangoon. The neighborhood bird was voted best chicken sandwich in Baltimore and I can see why. The sandwich is on a steam bun which had a sweetness to it. The chicken thigh is large and filling, seasoned well and goes well with the mayo, pickles and herbs. The crispy shrimp bowl came with fried shrimp lying on a bed of basmati rice, some pickled vegetables and herbs. Definitely have to mix all your ingredients together to get the maximum flavor. The Yuzu drinks were refreshing. The white peach flavor was delicious. Overrall the meal came up to $66 with a 20% tip. Seemed like a lot of people order online for pick up. There is no parking lot just gotta find street parking which was not difficult to locate.

Review is for takeout only! I ordered the FAMOUS Maryland softie sandwich a few days in advance! I'm so glad I did because I heard it sells out fast. This sandwich is pricey at ~$40. My friend and I split the cost since we were planning on having a second lunch after this lol. The sandwich is a crab cake + softshell crab on a very soft bao bun. It was pretty good but it was alittle lukewarm since we were late for our pick up (so our bad). Very good sandwich with delectable flavors with the crab cake full of meat and the crunchiness of the softshell crab. Pretty solid sandwich! Im not sure if its worth the price point but I appreciated as is.

I tried Ekiben for the first time a couple of days ago and it was fantastic. I ordered the Neighborhood Bird Bun and my only complaint was that there was too much chicken on the bun. I couldn't finish my food because it made me sick but it was still amazing. I think next time I would try a different item as this one wasn't speaking to me too much. I still had a great time though and I'll definitely be back.

If you've visited Baltimore and haven't yet been to Ekiben, this is your sign to make your way today! Ekiben is the definition of unique flavors & a depth of culture. Their menu is a fusion of Asian & Ethiopian cuisine, an unexpected yet insanely good combination! With locations in 3 staple areas of Baltimore city, you'll experience not only great food but also the opportunity to explore all the sweet gems Baltimore has to offer. My top 3 picks from the menu which are a must when you visit are: ramen broccoli (perfect cooked in tempura batter seasoned with a "tangy" blend of spices); Red beans & Rice (vegan friendly dish of cooked lentils over rice topped w/ a fresh tomato & onion blend); & of course the shrimp (really any of them because you can't go wrong). Ekiben is definitely a staple and somewhere that warrants frequent visits. I highly recommend!

Everyone has told me that Ekiben is a must-try in Baltimore and now I understand why. My mom and I got to Ekiben a little after 5pm on Saturday and it was packed. While we waited for our food, many continuously piled in to order or pick up their food. I'd recommend calling in your order a head of time because they get pretty backed up, but the food is well worth the wait. I got the Tofu Brah bun and my mom got the chili noodles with pork and a side of rice and beans. All of the food was so flavorful and the portions were generous. The bun itself was so light and fluffy, and the tofu was crispy. They didn't skimp on the pork in the chili noodles - about half the dish was really tender pork. The rice and beans were nice and spicy too and my mom loved them! This is more of a grab and go kind of place, but there are two outdoor benches and some countertop seating inside

Amazing food as the other Yelp reviewers said. Will definitely make a point of going here again. Stopped for a snack and split this

Is this restaurant halal or kosher?

This restaurant doesn't explicitly mark itself or any of its dishes as halal or kosher, but it is clear enough about the ingredients in each dish if you are concerned about those.

Can I call and make a reservation?

I don't think so. The indoor space is very small and casual. It seems like people grab a space if available or carry out.

Are there any peanut products in the neighborhood bird bowl?

Don't recall nuts as an ingredient, but you might want to contact them directly in case they use peanut oil. There was a note on the site saying soy is in almost everything and to contact them about allergies.

Does this restaurant accept Venmo scan to pay?

I'm not sure, but I don't think so.

We ordered the Neighborhood Bird, Fried Shrimp, and Fried Broccoli, and everything was absolutely amazing, as usual! The Neighborhood Bird was delicious--the bun was perfectly steamed and fluffy, while the chicken was so well seasoned, crispy on the outside, and tender and juicy on the inside. The fried shrimp were huge (seriously, about four bites each!), with a light, crispy batter and fresh herbs on top. And the fried broccoli is always a favorite of mine. It's incredibly flavorful and perfectly crispy. A special shoutout to Jesus, the manager, who was incredibly sweet and made my mom's birthday lunch even more special by treating us to peach yuzu juice. It was so refreshing and paired perfectly with our meal. We really appreciated the thoughtful gesture and wonderful hospitality. We had such a great lunch and a memorable birthday celebration. Another go-to, the tempura broccoli, was fried in a very-light crispy batter, and flavored with a light house-made vinegar sauce. Our go-to spicy tofu BRAH "bowl" lit us up with soft-centered baked tofu cubes in a medium-spicy sauce with the flavors of fresh herbs, garlic, and shallots, over a bed of tender long-grain white jasmine rice and with a pretty mango/papaya shredded-carrot slaw. The long rippled-noodles were tender, smothered in a spicy savory brown sauce that also pushed the envelope of my admittedly somewhat wimpy heat tolerance :-j We got the huge lightly-battered crispy flavorful shrimp, over white rice, garnished with sliced pickled red onions and pickled cucumber circles over tender fluffy jasmine rice. We are always happy with the staff at this Ekiben location, with hot flavorful generous on-time take-out. (Aug 2026).
