Friend and I did our usual walk and decided to stop by for a beer. Also ordered their hummus with pita and veggies. The hummus is 5 stars - house made, chunky and flavorful. Good serving size and server gave us more warm pita bread. read more

Great beer selection! Good food. Excellent service. This is a local pub, easily overlooked but well worth trying. It's in the Alamo Plaza by the Safeway, and Hubby and I have decided it's definitely our go-to place. Lots of free parking. Also the best onion rings I've had in a long time. read more

Sat at the bar for lunch, red bearded bartender was super knowledgable, led me to a great ipa. Salad was killer, nothing else to say I'll be coming back. read more

EJ is a great Alamo favorite with a wide selection of food, try the Brussels, El Diablo Burger or Pulled Pork Sandwich. Taproom selection of beers along with some great food makes for a great hang out! It's a regular stop for me and many of my friends. EJ Also has a great shady outdoor area for summer sipping. Lastly they have a great team there taking care of their customers needs and very knowledgeable about all the beers they have Service is top notch Ambiance is friendly and clean Food is always on point read more

Just an overall trainwreck with bad food and warm beer. Would not recommend at this point. Hopefully they up their game and make it worth going. read more

Service - slow, food took longer than it should have, beer served in a chipped glass. Ordered wings with no sauce but we got sauce and they charged me for extra sauce?! Out of menu items, kept forgetting to bring water after I asked twice. read more

Great food. Terrible service. Went here for a late lunch on a Sunday. There were a couple of tables on the patio and just my family inside. It took forever to get our drinks. Once the food came, we didn't see our server again until it was time for the check. Would have ordered a second drink and needed ketchup. The food was fantastic, but no service at all. As a side note, the Tapatio bottle on the table looked like an attempt to grow penicillin. Go to the concord location instead. read more

I walked in about 8:45pm to grab a beer. First time to visit as I've been a fan of the beer for decades. I walked up to the bar and sat down (my attire, suit from working all day), so I thought I'd receive positive customer service. I sat down, noticed a plate on the bar in front of me, 3/4 of a burger. There was an employee cleaning and talking to the three to my right. They all knew each other. About two minutes later (I'm the only unknown customer), she grabbed the plate but after pouring me my beer was eating from that plate. So, as she's working, cleaning and talking about other customers with the three to my right, she's chowing down. (I know, I guess in today's society it's acceptable to behave this way and make customers uncomfortable). Ugh, no it's not,,,not to this senior citizen who's also a vet. So, I watched some of the blow out baseball game, drank only half my beer and left. I got tired of hearing the loud cleaning in front of me, her talking loud due to her distance to the (I think other employees eating/drinking to my right) and their negative comments about customers. FYI, I had even mentioned to that gal, I was a fan of the beer since I read his story from retiring from the NFL, (I believe the New England Patriots) opening a beer and pursuing his dream. Oh....I also mentioned that two Halloween parties I had thrown in San Ramon I had the beer on keg. I had live bands back then and people asked what and where they could purchase the beer. (That info I didn't share with the employee as she seemed in a hurry). I visit the area often, and it's a shame that your staff eats in front (directly) while complaining. When I was a teenager, I was a busboy at the Holiday Inn in South SF. My grandfather managed a country club in Millbrae and my grandmother the 16 Mile Steak house. They taught me customer service and yes, they chewed me out and taught me to show better service. People like myself won't say anything in person because I would have been put down to my face and after I had left just like the customers the bartender/manager and staff at the bar were. Good luck. Now the owner can comment and throw some condescending rebuttal. I posted this publicly because a few of the real (not your staff's friends) had posted similar poor customer service reviews. read more

Thurs 12/29 12:30 1. I ordered fondue plate and made a comment to please bring extra hot 2. It took a very very longtime and didn't come sour dough on fondue plate 3. I had asked for the cheese to come hot came with flour tortillas things not sour dough so it sat in front of me while she went back to the kitchen. 4. I had asked her to get sour dough asap and waited way way too long to do simple fix for bread not requiring cooking etc. after a long wait I walked towards kitchen window said dish getting cold still no action everyone was so protective of kitchen as if i was walking into it. My server was not getting the job done, or chef not getting it done and while i stood looking in the kitchen NO ONE was trying to put together sour dough chunks. I found a long time ago to not let bad servers, cook backups ruin an always great meal so i was intervening in the process. I have the dish almost every time i go there. 1/18 Same rude MEAN bartender girl as Thurs 12/29 12:30 She told me she wouldn't serve me because i walked out on my check. I didn't eat the meal, i took 2 sips of the beer. Ive lived in Alamo since 1978, I've gone to Lawrence Meets till it closed. I grew up in Orinda and my parents shopped at Phairs market until they closed. The gal who handled my situation will definitely have many issues along her journey of serving people AND im sure problems with her employers. "Oil always floats to the top" read more

EJ Phair - Alamo Dads - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Alamo, California

Next Door neighbors are all excited about this new spot in Alamo to serve the local crowd. It fills a welcome niche as a fun brewery with yummy pub food in the old Laurence's spot. Try the fish and chips and stop by with friends. Owned by a local family I believe this is the third location so they have experience. Soon to come is outdoor patio seating. I'm surprised to be the first review and even had to add the business to yelp. Let's support this terrific spot and get the reviews in! read more

I have been a regular customer here for the last two years and we ordered three chicken salads to go and two out of the three was completely over cooked and tough. This was a to go order, therefore I was not able to go back and have them replace the chicken. When I called, they did not handle the situation correctly and they did not offer me a refund. They said that I would have to come back to have the chicken re-cooked. The manager never offered an apology and was very young sounding as if no experience prior to how to handle a complaint.. and basically was quiet and not able to offer any solution. Not sure if she really knows how to deal with customers and I called to give a chance to redeem their satisfaction guarantee rather than give a negative review of which I do not like to give to any businesses. For the most part the food has been good and I have given a positive review but now need to update it with the latest event of poor customer service. read more

We stopped in here on our drive home from San Luis Obispo a couple of weekends ago. It happened to be cinco de mayo, and while we didn't see any specials posted for the holiday, we decided celebratory tacos were in order, so my boyfriend ordered the beer battered, cod fish tacos ($19). I had a plate of buffalo wings ($15) with the regular buffalo sauce, and the hellfire sauce on the side. Their wings are really good - meaty and not super fatty. The skin was cooked crispy and they had great flavor. I also had a craving for the garlic parmesan french fries (skinny cut; $9) and I maintain my belief that these are the best french fries you can find in all of Contra Costa County. I have felt that way for years and was sad when their Concord location closed and I thought the fries were gone forever. We actually ordered a chicken finger appetizer ($15) to go (with more of the hellfire sauce); we weren't hungry at all, but my boyfriend had been craving them and put in the order before realizing how full we already were. Unfortunately, those came out really overcooked. Even a good dousing in the sauce at home didn't help much, but perhaps the cook rushed them, knowing it was for a table dining and about to leave... I don't know. It was forgivable though - that happens. A couple of pilsners ($8) for him and a couple of sours ($10.50) for me completed the meal. I have to say, the food was great, but maybe tied at the top of things we enjoyed was service from Ronnie. He was on top of everything! Checking back in on us frequently, but not obnoxiously often - keeping drinks full, remembering our food order and getting it right, just in general friendliness as well. He was terrific! Great service when dining out is so memorable; we'd been driving for hours in traffic on our way home, so the excellent service was extra appreciated. Thanks guys! read more

The service is sooo slow. The food is inconsistent. I love that there is a local pub. But. It needs to be better in both service and food.

I love the Jagersnitzel with the mushroom sauce. Yummy. And the beers selection was plentiful especially for a lager/lighter beer lover like me. I have to say that I had EJ's dark beer and it was delicious. The inside interior was welcoming and there was lots of room for parties of various sizes. Our waitress was excellent and it was nice having actual table service instead of the pick up your own food at the counter type of restaurants that seem to be everywhere. I heard that the Concord location just reopened so I can't wait to try that out as well. read more

Be sure and check your receipt against your credit card bill (if not paying cash)! Even though I left a 15% tip of $6.00 I assume the waitress (Am B.) wanted another $1.00 so it was added on without my permission! I emailed two women, Becky and Teresa, and they did not respond. I will now notify my credit card company because this is fraudulent and should not be happening. I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT NOR WILL MANY OF MY FRIENDS THAT LIVE IN ALAMO! SHAME ON YOU!!! read more

Fun, great food, nice drink selection, a great place for happy hour and group outing!

Great service, best French fries around, AND everyone in our family is happy with their meal. Highly recommend the frickles or a caprese salad to start and any burger. Great beer selection. read more

Used to be good but not anymore. Last few times I have come, service has been super slow as typically there is only 1 server for the whole restaurant! Food quality has also deteriorated. Only good thing they have is fries. Whenever you get wings with soft skin you know they are either microwaved or fried by kids.....it's E.J. Phair now. read more

Updating my review after having visited again and enjoyed a meal on the fairly new outdoor patio. The food was delicious today as well and the service great. While the indoor area remains quite loud, I'm happy to find that the outdoor space is roomy, and nicely laid out. There was only one other table occupied, but I think even if there had been more people it would have been just fine. I had the Mediterranean Falafel Burger and it was both moist (challenging to do) and tasty. The fruit side was also good and tasted fresh...not soggy. We tried the onion ring appetizer, and sorry no picture because we scarfed them down too quick! So I'm pleased there's a place to escape the noise if desired. Well done E.J. Phair. read more

We came here after an afternoon of traveling. Looked up a place to have dinner before our nighttime shenanigans and came across this place. They have an extensive selection of beer they have on tap. For those who don't feel like drinking beer they have cider, wine, and hard seltzer options too. There was so many enticing options to choose from, from comfort to health conscious options, anyone can get their fill. The portion sizes were huge so you don't have worry about going home hungry. The prices are very economical so that was a definite plus. Come check this place out and you must try the fried apple rings with caramel and vanilla ice cream! Yum!!! read more

This is an absolutely amazing place to enjoy. One of the best spots around. The staff are all very friendly, warm and witty! Show up more than a few times (which you will!) and you'll feel like you're walking into a friends home. The food is delicious with a full menu to satisfy whatever you're in the mood for. The beer selection is next to none with a changing array of local micro-brews from pilsner, to lager, to Pale Ale, to IPA to triple IPA! And if you're in the mood for wine they also have a lovely wine selection. I'm heading down there now so see you in a bit!! read more

Stopped in for a late-ish dinner on a Thursday night. This place was thankfully open. My party of 2 was happy to see a good beer list, not a surprise for a brewing company. The food was good, satisfying, and exactly as ordered with the few modifications delivered perfectly. I'm not a fan of shoestring French fries. But they were actually very good here. Pleasantly surprised. The service was friendly, attentive, and happy to make good suggestions. We ordered the veggie falafel burger and a turkey burger. I got the fries for the side. My wife got the side salad which was off menu. But the salad was super simple lettuce and maybe a little bit of not much else. She didn't love it. What was offered was fries, potato salad, Or coleslaw. She regretted going off menu here. We were very happy overall and would go back again in a pinch. Good simple menu done well and with care. read more

Wow i had one of the best cheeseburgers I've eaten that I can remember here. The bartender was very chill and nice too. I will definitely be back to try some other items on their menu based on how Amazing that cheeseburger was. I think it had Diablo in its name. read more

we enjoyed our Saturday evening. Not overly crowded, and sat outside with our dog. Food was tasty, and the sanagria was as well.

Don't recommend this establishment.. Service and staff not hospitable. Took there time to serve us, seemed more interested in themselves than the customers. An older woman, could of been person in charge was more rude! She seemed mad at something and grumbled at us. We finished our beer quickly and left immediately! As a business owner, we make sure our staff is well versed in customer service! Customers are the core of success and need to be appreciated and treated well! Hopefully the staff there were not the proprietors and make sure that their business is properly run.. Not returning unless we hear an improvement through the grapevine! read more

Good food, poor service. The older guy doesn't greet us, no "thank you" or " you're welcome". No water refills. It's like he didn't want our business. I can't rule out that maybe race is a factor. Regardless we won't return. read more

We had an issue with missing food from an order and nobody answering the phone but the business owner responded and apologized. We would give them a second chance. read more

We wanted a lunch out today and this looked like a good place for a beer and a burger. They have a great selection of beer and the menu is varied. There is a lot of deep fried bar type foods, that looked over cooked when I saw some go by. We had grilled cheese and tomato soup. It was just boring. Someone needs to learn about seasoning. We had Brussels too and they could have used more seasoning but they were still pretty good. I'd like to go and try a burger or sliders. So just a so so experience. read more

2 stars for the 2 people working - same as most places in the tri-valley - overpriced sub par food. My daughter got the burger and cried how hard it was. I had the steak sandwich - tasteless. Beer was good - so sad - I do remember the nice butcher/deli that was once this establishment. read more

Decent kind ppl. Good place for a bevvy great atmosphere. Met the owners n they were very kind. Will go back again.

Service was so great and friendly! Server was accommodating and we did not feel rushed. Might be my new go-to for a quick lunch.

As usual the gang of 8 went to the Pub last night for Taco Tuesday. Our server was one of the rudest individuals I have ever had. She used the same excuse about why she couldn't give separate checks. Each week she says the computer is being upgraded so can't. If we all sat at the bar or all in separate booths she'd have to give separate checks. She allowed 2 checks and ONLY WOULD TAKE CASH & NOT CREDIT CARDS!! When the checks came they didn't quite compute. The server said "You guys figure it out." She was so darn rude the whole time read more

Good food and beer. Great place to hang out for a game or with friends. Awesome patio on sunny days

We stopped here after a 70 mile bike ride in 95 degree heat. We were parched and in need of hydration and fuel. Though we only ordered sodas and french fries, the staff treated us like we had ordered a five course meal with unlimited expense. They kept our water glasses full with icy cold water and kept our soda glasses topped off. The french fries were amazing and just salty enough the replace the salt we lost on our ride. I organize weekly pub rides and, pre-Covid, we had stopped here with our group for post ride libations one evening. It was good then, but even better now. I will be organizing another pub ride from this location. The beer selection alone is worth 1.5 hour ride from my house! But those french fries, I'd ride up there twice just to get some! read more
