Jaegerschnitzel, moist with wonderful gravy
Jeff H.

Really good food. Jaegerschnizel was a real highlight. Large portion but still very flavorful, not dry or over cooked at all, for sure a menu standout. Friendly staff and fairly sure modt.of the patrons are regulars. Don't let the location of sharing a parking lot with a Safeway turn you away from a great meal.

Let's go!

Everything about E.J. Phair is what you expect from a local dive bar. The people are friendly and bristly honest. It's fun. Good is slow and honest. Large selection of beer. No one tries to rush you out. It's the perfect place to have a beer or food and just chill. I ordered some drinks and I recommend the schnitzels

Chicken cranberry salad

Lovely lunch here today on the outdoor patio. We both had salads and they were very nice. The chicken cranberry salad had a warm chicken breast, blue cheese, candied walnuts and cranberries with field greens. It was served with a tasty poppy seed dressing. My friend really liked the Thai chicken salad. Service is excellent!

Get a load of me, get a load of you Walking down the street and I hardly know you . Are those the first words you hear when listening to Liz Phair's song Why Can't I, or the thought you have when reading the menu at EJ Phair Alehouse & Pub and are deciding whether or not to go? Maybe both, but of course we say GO. Offering a solid mix & match menu of drinks, comfort foods, in the right space to celebrate tunes, treats, and thirst. All accessible from their standard and specials menu.

Athena Burger, potatoes salad
Douglas M.

This was my first time, I ordered: The Athena Burger (4.5 stars) The handmade lamb patty was season well with added herbs mixed in, then cooked perfectly with good caramelization and crispy edges, so good! I don't know if they cook to order, they didn't ask. The lamb was cooked medium well, no pink but still juicy, they pulled it just in time, but would have liked medium rare. That's the only reason it's not 5 stars. The brioche bun was fresh and held up to everything. The toppings were good quality, fresh and in the right amount (feta, red onion, spring mix, sliced tomato and harissa aioli) The harissa aioli was good, but not much heat, mild. Overall awesome burger! Side of potatoes salad (4 stars) It was fresh, homemade with celery, bacon bits, red bell pepper, sour cream mayo dressing. The potatoes were perfectly cut chunks and cooked (not overcooked, still had a bite but soft) Great job! Curry Cauliflower Soup (4 stars) Really good, except not much cauliflower (maybe all of was pureed, some chunks would have been good) The coconut curry based was really good, perfectly seasoned. Until next time...

Paperback Italian pilsner & Wonderous lager!

We enjoyed our lunch here very much on a quiet afternoon we started with a few draft beers a hefe & a pilsner both were refreshing we ordered the brew b-que that my husband raved about he said he could taste each and every ingredient the onion rings the tomato the cheddar cheese honestly he rarely goes into such detail... this burger moved right into his favorite #1 spot! Quite a feat! We will be going back many times for that but I seen lots of goodies on the menu to try in the future this time I had fish & chips and they were average but real fish so that's always a plus! I thought the fries were slightly overcooked although that could just be my preference so I ate them! We can't wait to go back to try more of the menu. Hope to see you there!

Great local restaurant, nice selection of beers, really cozy atmosphere! Friendly staff, clean booths and tables, and a nice place to bring family or friends. Came on weekday for a late lunch and it wasn't too crowded. Good array of options, our friend had the fish tacos, and I shared a burger and sandwich with family. Would recommend if you're in Alamo!

Ina R.

Good variety of cuisines on the menu. Prices are typical for Alamo. Nice outdoor seating. Friendly service. Easy parking. Large portions for salad. Shared a Thai chicken salad and Gruyère cheese and naan appetizer with a friend and both were great! Will be back!

I basically live here now. And couldn't imagine a day without them. One of my homes away from home. Three out of the five days of the work week. The blackened salmon with mash potatoes, with seasonal veggies, is my feel good go-to like your being hugged for the first time all day. They got a killer burger. Amazing tacos. Unique schnitzel. I salivate every-time I think of their fried chicken sandi. I love their fine crispy loaded Cesar salad! Also they always have the freshest beer and cider, the newest on the streets BUT they also have your classic hard hitters. They are the only taproom I found that had my Ficks, made with real fruit juice, it goes down super smooth. I don't give a Fick! Becky, with the good hair, is the sweetest and has good advice. Teresa is super dope, and laughs hard with you. Jack is a freaking doll and always makes me feel better. JJ is cool. Olivia is a sweetheart, and such a beauty. Tanelle is always super kind and lighting quick efficient, and knows how to adjust your order just right. Gianni is soul sweet. Chris, Head chef, has tons of passion, loves his culinary art, and it shows. I honestly lean on these people to make my stomach, heart, and head feel better every week. Multiple times a week! Go there. Hang out. Eat. Drink. Be merry. High five someone. Share a cry. Hold someone's baby. I love this place. If I have a cheers, this is it for me.

Second visit here, and it's a great spot for a relaxed afternoon with the family…read more Headlands is right near the Pleasant Hill BART station, so it's an easy walk if you're coming by train. If you're driving, there's a parking lot shared with the neighboring office buildings, and this is the one downer: it isn't free. The lot runs on Metropolis Parking, so you'll need to create an account since it's automated and tracks your license plate. Scan the QR code at the register to validate one free hour. Otherwise it's $2.50 an hour plus a $1.50 service fee. We stayed 1 hour and 44 minutes and paid $4 after the complementary hour, so it's not terrible, just a hassle to set up. The ambiance is my favorite part. It's entirely outdoors, but there's plenty of shade. We went on a Sunday with football on, and once the Niners game started they put it on all the TVs and turned the game audio on too. The space is split into three distinct areas: an adults-only deck that's slightly elevated, a family and kids section along the outer fence, and a main middle area open to everyone. It's family and dog friendly, and both times we've visited there have been lots of kids, so keep that in mind if you want a more adult environment. Since it's strictly outdoors, a rainy or cold day could be a tough time to visit, but when the weather is nice it's a great place to grab a beer, a bite, and some sports. Ordering is flexible. You can order at the main counter, or scan the unique QR code at your table, order from your phone, and they'll bring everything right to you. My wife and I each had a different hazy IPA and both were good, and the overall beer selection is nice. On the food side, the burgers are above average but not spectacular. The fries were the better side: crispy and well seasoned with a spice blend. The Oreo and brownie cheesecake was a hit, and my wife and son devoured it. Prices are reasonable for the area, and the food and beer both hold up for what you pay. Overall, it's a fun, laid-back spot for families, dog owners, and sports fans, with a great setup. Just plan for the parking process.

Enjoyed a flight of their IPAs and a few dishes - their chips and guac which I always enjoy, heirloom tomato salad and fish tacos ! All really good!! The service was friendly and super quick--our entire order came out just minutes after ordering via QR code. My favorite item was the Brewery Platter, a beautifully-presented sampler of German-inspired appetizers, including three warm pretzels, candied bacon, bratwurst, crispy potato pancakes, and candied pepitas, along with spicy mustard, curry ketchup, beer cheese, and pickles. My favorite part of this platter was the warm, chewy pretzels eaten along with the thick, creamy beer cheese, but everything was delicious in its own way! Another highlight was the curry ketchup, which had such a unique combination of tomato flavor with spices. For our mains, the Heirloom Tomato Salad came with mixed greens, feta, and heirloom & cherry tomatoes, along with a balsamic dressing. We also added a Wagyu Beef Patty, which was nicely grilled but on the dry side. The Fried Chicken Sandwich came with a breaded chicken breast, citrus slaw, red onion marmalade, and sauce on a soft bun; and the Fried Fish Sandwich was a similar creation but made with beer battered rock cod. The mains were decent though nothing spectacular. Overall, however, this was a nice, casual brewery for its calm, shaded atmosphere and tasty eats.

4 Stars | Good Drinks, Good Vibes, and a Little Room for Improvement!…read more Sometimes you're not looking for anything fancy. You just want a good place to sit, enjoy a drink, grab something to eat, and watch your team WIN! And on this particular evening, we were looking for somewhere to watch our Valkyries! GO VALKYRIES! CHAMPIONS, BABY! We decided to check out Bare Bottle Brew Co. in Walnut Creek, and this place has quite a bit going for it! Now, let's start at the beginning. When we first walked in, the reception wasn't quite as warm as we would have liked. We actually had to initiate the interaction with the gentleman at the counter. And listen, I'm BIG on customer service. I have absolutely turned around and walked out of establishments when the energy wasn't right. BUT, and this is important, people deserve an opportunity to turn things around. Once we started discussing the beer and cider selections, what we liked, what we didn't, and our preferences, he warmed up considerably! He also let us taste several options before committing. What started as a somewhat awkward interaction turned into a genuinely pleasant exchange, and we appreciated that. Now, let's talk about these drinks! I ordered the guava cider, and BABY, it was absolutely FABULOUS! My spouse tried two different beers and loved BOTH of them! So, if you're wondering whether their drink selection delivers, based on our experience, the answer is a resounding YES! We found ourselves a seat, and with only a handful of other patrons there, we had a great view of the Valkyries game. Exactly what we'd come for! Then another gentleman came out from the back, and BABY, he brought the personality! He was jovial, engaging, and genuinely friendly. He even stopped to compliment my perfume and ask what fragrance I was wearing. Now THAT is the kind of personable interaction that makes a place feel welcoming! On to the food! We ordered a personal pizza and Caesar salad. The pizza was GOOD! Was it the best pizza I've ever eaten? No. But was it tasty, well-constructed, and satisfying? Absolutely! I'd describe it as elevated bar food. A nice step above what you might expect when you're primarily visiting a place for drinks and entertainment. The Caesar salad, however, wasn't quite my favorite. Now, I'm particular about my Caesar dressing. I actually enjoy the flavor anchovies bring to a good Caesar, but there's a fine line between complementing the other ingredients and taking center stage. In this dressing, the anchovy flavor was the STAR of the show, and unfortunately, that's not my preference. However, if you LOVE a pronounced anchovy flavor in your Caesar, this might be right up your alley! The lettuce also could have been a bit fresher. Some of it was slightly wilted, which didn't help matters. But let's get back to this atmosphere! Bare Bottle has plenty of televisions for watching sports, including one outside on the patio! And speaking of that patio, it's a lovely space with picnic tables, greenery, string lights, and outdoor heating. It was a chilly evening when we visited, but the heater made the outdoor area much more comfortable. They also have arcade games, including pinball machines, and other games for guests to enjoy. There's definitely something nostalgic and fun about having those options available. I also love that they host community events! From drag bingo to live music, this is clearly a place that wants to be more than somewhere to grab a drink. Now, let's talk about the bill! For two beers, one guava cider, a personal pizza, and a Caesar salad, our total came to $80 before tip. I'm including that because I believe knowing what an experience costs is just as important as knowing whether the food and drinks are good. Whether that's a reasonable price will depend on what you're looking for, but at least you'll have an idea of what to expect before you go! So, why four stars instead of five? Because while we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, the overall experience wasn't quite five-star territory. The initial greeting could have been warmer, and the Caesar salad needed a little more attention. Neither issue ruined our visit, but both are worth mentioning. What I especially appreciated was that the customer service improved as our visit progressed. That matters! Would I return? ABSOLUTELY! Especially for that guava cider! Bare Bottle is a solid option for watching a game, enjoying a beer or cider, grabbing some elevated bar food, or simply spending time with friends. And if you're looking for a spot where you can enjoy the game without sacrificing a little atmosphere and personality, put this one on your list! Four solid stars from me! And congratulations again to our Valkyries!

Five Stars Well Earned…read more I returned to Revel for my favorite batched cocktail, the Out of Bounds (OOB) an aromatic glass of goodness! that is bourbon based. My last visit was a little off when it came to service, so I wanted to give Revel another go. Downtown Danville was bustling with activity thanks to a three day Gilmore Girls event. I had tried making a reservation, but there were none available. We decided to take our chances and see if we could snag a spot at the bar or outside. Upon arrival, the hostess was welcoming and explained the wait situation. There were communal tables available, but we decided to pass on those. After waiting about 10 minutes, the hostess sought me out and mentioned there might be an outdoor table near a heater if I wanted to put my name in. Absolutely! Within five minutes, we were seated at a very comfortable outdoor table. Although the air was chilly, the heaters made all the difference. Our server, Sydney whom I had never encountered before, was extremely personable, organized, efficient, and attentive. She also offered some great suggestions. What really stood out was that, after we ordered, she asked how we preferred to space out our appetizers and entrées. This was a first for me at Revel, and I appreciated the thoughtfulness and attention to our dining experience. The outdoor seating area was surprisingly comfortable despite the chill in the air. Our drinks arrived in a very reasonable amount of time, followed by our appetizers, all served at the appropriate temperature. When our entrées arrived, they were equally well timed and temperature appropriate. I ordered the pasta, which was extremely flavorful and filling. My dining companion ordered the chicken sliders, and I have to say, these are the best chicken sliders I have ever tasted! They are also a staple on the Happy Hour menu, making them worth seeking out on your next visit. I noticed a member of management making the rounds from table to table, checking in with diners. I also overheard the neighboring table expressing how pleased they were with their server, who happened to be ours as well. It was great to see that the excellent service we received was not an isolated experience. This evening's experience at Revel was outstanding five stars! Sometimes a restaurant or an employee simply has an off day. While that doesn't make a lapse in service any less frustrating for the customer, it is worth remembering that these things happen. What matters is how a restaurant responds and whether it demonstrates a genuine commitment to its customers. Revel is an established go-to destination in downtown Danville, and this visit reminded me why I continue to return. After my previous review, Tina, the Food and Beverage Manager, reached out to me personally. That gesture demonstrated a willingness to listen, address concerns, and make things right. If you read my other reviews, you'll notice I often say that mishaps happen. It's how they are addressed that matters and ultimately demonstrates a restaurant's commitment or lack thereof to its customers. Revel showed me that commitment, both through management's follow-up and the outstanding experience we had this time around. From the warm welcome and attentive service to the delicious food and, of course, my beloved OOB, this was a return worth writing about. I'll definitely be back!
