Chef Donny at Eiko's Fish Market - Oxbow Napa with my chirashi bowl!
Benjamin P.

Chef Donny at Eiko's Fish Market - Oxbow Napa is legitimately a sushi/sashimi master! His knife work and precision was art. I asked for something I had one time and didn't recognize any matching descriptions on their menu. So I described it to chef Donny and he said, "I think I know what you're looking for... a Chirashi bowl."For those who've never had it before, it's chef's choice sashimi selections served in a bowl of sushi rice with some sauce. The photos I took do not do it justice. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Thank you Chef Donny! See you next time on my return trip to Napa.

I was standing near the sushi bar when I arrived, nobody greeted me, chef was right there, didn't say anything to me, dirty plates and food left all over the sushi bar so I didn't sit down as it was not clean and I didn't want to clean it all myself. So I decided to order at the cashier. I probably would have chose another place inside the market but it was late and few options. I got the Hawaiian poke bowl. It was yummy, high price but had lots of fish so I feel that was fair and the taste and quality was high. I ended up squeezing in At the end of the sushi bar. I told my cashier I wanted to eat at the sushi bar and she said she would tell the chef, however the chef served me food in a to-go bowl . Then I asked the chef for soy sauce and he gave me to-go packets even though I was eating there. I didn't really feel welcomed. The chef was talking to a customer next to me for the whole time I was there but never talked to me. I would have bought more items if the chef suggested something special to me. I had a beer, it was good. Cashier was very friendly. Sushi chef was nice enough to get me soy sauce so he wasn't rude or anything. The food was good. After I was done eating they started to clean up and finally started to clean up all the food at the sushi bar. So it sat there for my whole meal. Nobody could sit in those seats the whole time. Maybe they didn't notice. So I'm kind of torn how many stars to give this place. I didn't really feel taken care of or that welcome. Food was good however. Place was messy because of no cleaning up after customers until closing time. I guess I will go with four stars because I would eat there again. I just feel that the staff can do so much better if they would consider things from the other side of the sushi bar as a customer. Sorry for my honesty here, I didn't really look forward to writing this review. I worked at sushi restaurant for a few years as a waitress and I know how difficult of a job it can be.

Classic Miso Soup

My lunch treat on a Wednesday was a trip to Eiko's. The small spot had maybe 6 chairs. The service was lightning fast and I enjoyed my quick bite. Miso soup was really good. The added mushrooms were good. However, for $10, I don't know if I am going to get it again. The poke bowl on the other hand is ok. I wished there were a little bit more toppings. Anyways, I will try the other poke bowl next time.

Looking for a place to meet friends for dinner and they suggested we try Eiko's and so glad we did! I had the house salad which was the bessst house salad I've ever had. Yes, nothing about a house salad sounds fancy but the dressing was crack, I would put it on anything. For dinner I had the Hawaiian poke bowl and it was the best poke bowl I've had in California. It literally took me back to the islands. My husband asked the Donnie the sushi chef what he recommended and he suggested the sashimi sampler and we were shocked how generous the portions were! There's only about 10 seats there but what it lacks in space, makes up for the personal attention you get from Donnie. If we're ever in town, we'll definitely be back.

I will do this again. The sushi was amazing. The service was awesome. A great experience overall. I could not believe how fresh the sushi was. Good job all.

Scallops. Look at how big those are !
Joanne C.

This review is solely for their fresh scallops!!! whenever I'm in napa, I try to come here and get their scallops. It's huge and decently priced. I got 5pc for about $25! comes with ginger, wasabi, and soy sauce. You can probably even bring it home and make a diced scallop nigiri with spicy mayo and it'll be so delish.

Best quality Crab salmon, from front to Back clean, like being in the kitchen watching the staff and chefs at work

Had an excellent lunch the other day. Brian the sushi chef was great. He made suggestions and recommendations and all were delicious. The hamachi bombs are a new all time favorite for me! The Toro was delicious and the rolls were done really well. Would definitely come back!

California Roll

Was cool to see the roll be made in front of me. Very fresh! Service was slow, but overall would recommend. I don't like raw fish, so had the California roll.

Ceba handroll with spicy sauce and green onions

Austin is amazing!!! He packed the heck out my handroll ($10/each) These suckers are large enough to keep you full Recommendations: - crab handroll (additions: avocado, green onions, jalapeños and slick sauce) - Wish they had scallops - they can add whatever you want in the handroll :-) - also recommend the Ricky Ricardo roll Also recommend avoiding the smoked salmon- perfectly acceptable but a little too salty for me :-)

I was pretty skeptical about ordering sushi here at first, but I'm glad I gave it a try. I ordered the California and lion kind rolls and they were actually good! I just wish the rice was seasoned more and that it wasn't cold. I have never had a cold lion king before but it was really different from the rest of the lion kings I had before because their salmon was torched. I also like that they have so many bottled drinks to choose from. I saw bottled milk tea but didn't get to try it. Maybe next time! The cashier was very kind and the chefs got my order out in ten minutes. I would definitely eat this again!

ceviche, smoked salmon and uni

Was super excited to try the octopus ceviche and uni nigiri unfortunately both were missing the punch you in the mouth flavors. Counter Service was nice enough. They sell cute little Knick knacks too.

Spicy trio $12 and taste of sashimi $19

To eat: 1. Truffle hamachi (6 pcs) - amazing! Absolutely getting it next time. 2. A5 Wagyu nigiri (1 pc, $15) - it was okay. Not my fave Wagyu I've had. This one was more raw. I liked with it's seared a bit 3. Maguro sashimi (3 pcs) - very thick juicy pieces. very much enjoyed these. Delicious tuna! Not fatty Service was phenomenal! My server was extremely kind and helpful. I should have gotten his name. He said it was his third day. Couldn't tell. 100% will ask for him next time. Hostess was also very very kind and welcoming. Even with its quirks it's still the best sushi spot in town, and I worked at another Napa sushi restaurant for the better part of 7 years. It feels like one of the only restaurants in Napa that legitimately cares about catering to locals. The prices are fair. Good sake selection. The quality of the sushi is fantastic and they cycle in unique fish I've never had anywhere else. Tip to the owners: hire more servers!! Also it would be appreciated for them to get their face out of the mobile POS and really listen to the customer when they're taking our order.

The maki rolls came with 6 rolls, with the sushi being 1 pc each. The spicy tuna roll was very affordable with fresh high quality fish. I like how the sushi was fairly simple, which amplified the deep flavor of the fish. I also ordered one fatty tuna sashimi, which was melt in your mouth! Miso soup, which had homemade tofu is rich, but the tofu was average. Gyoza was average, more on the dryer side. The salmon taretare was very good, coming with different sauces. I tasted a bit of my coworker's unagi bowl, which came with seaweed to create a roll. I thought the unagi was grilled well, but the marinade on top was too sweet. The sweetness of the sauce overpowered the natural flavor of the eel. A highlight was their dessert lime sago. It was not too sweet and came with ice cream. There were pop rocks sprinkled in that gave a unique texture.

Morimoto Napa: A deeply disappointing dining experience…read more My wife and I recently returned to Napa, one of our favorite places, and decided to try Morimoto while celebrating 40 years since we first met. We ordered the $180-per-person omakase and added the $95 A5 Wagyu supplement for each of us. With drinks, tax, and tip, our final bill was over $800. We were perfectly comfortable spending that kind of money for a special occasion, but unfortunately, the experience was a tremendous disappointment. And to be clear, this isn't about the money. Even if the entire meal had cost $50, I would have been disappointed. The food simply wasn't good. The omakase nigiri was particularly bad. The rice was atrocious, and the preparation of the fish was hardly better. Sushi rice is fundamental to good nigiri, and getting that wrong undermines the entire dish. Several of the other courses were excessively salty, with little of the balance or refinement we expected. The presentation was also surprisingly uninspired. My wife commented on how ordinary everything looked, especially for an omakase experience where you would expect some thought and craftsmanship in how each course is presented. Then there was the A5 Wagyu. Before ordering, I asked our waitress about it, and she described it as wonderfully buttery. We've had excellent Wagyu in Japan, so we had a reasonable idea of what to expect. Unfortunately, this wasn't remotely close. The appearance was unappealing, the flavor disappointing, and the texture lacked the richness and tenderness we were looking forward to. At $95 for a small portion, it was a particularly poor addition to an already underwhelming meal. My wife is Japanese, and we travel to Japan regularly, so we're familiar with excellent sushi and Wagyu. But I wasn't expecting Morimoto to replicate a traditional Japanese restaurant. I knew it was fusion, and I have no problem with that. Good cooking is good cooking, regardless of the style. What I expected was quality, proper technique, balanced flavors, and some genuine attention to detail. Unfortunately, we found very little of that here. The service didn't help matters. When our waitress asked how we enjoyed the nigiri, I told her directly that it was terrible and explained why, particularly the rice. I made clear that I wasn't blaming her personally. She seemed genuinely surprised by the criticism, but there was no apology, no meaningful acknowledgment, and no attempt during that conversation to address our dissatisfaction. She was pleasant enough otherwise, but there's a difference between being superficially pleasant and actually caring about a guest's experience. What bothers me most is the disconnect between Morimoto's reputation and what actually arrived at our table. I've had far better food at small, unpretentious restaurants where the people preparing it clearly care about what they're doing. A celebrity chef's name and an impressive bill don't substitute for craftsmanship. We went there to celebrate something meaningful, and instead we spent the evening wondering how a restaurant with this reputation could get so many basic things wrong. Perhaps others have had better experiences, but ours was genuinely awful. I wouldn't return, and I certainly wouldn't recommend the omakase. Not because it was expensive, but because the food wasn't good. The price just made the disappointment that much worse.

From the moment we walked in, the service was truly first-class. Every detail was thoughtful and beautifully executed. They even surprised us with a glass of Cabernet Franc to pair with the A5 Wagyu. The pairing was fantastic--the Wagyu was incredibly tender, literally melting in my mouth, yet surprisingly not greasy or heavy at all. They also paired a sweet dessert wine with the dessert, which was such a nice touch. I'm honestly not a dessert person at all, but their Jasmine Pear completely won me over. I absolutely loved it! Every single course was delicious, beautifully presented, and thoughtfully balanced. The whole experience felt very refined without being stuffy or overly formal. It's the kind of restaurant where you can appreciate not only the food, but also the attention to detail, hospitality, and the entire dining experience. Definitely one of those Napa experiences that I'm glad I finally got to try. I would happily come back again!

I consider myself a pretty well traveled individual and have dined at several Michelin stared restaurants and kenzo absolutely missed the mark. The ambience of the restaurant can only be described as sterile. The food was lacking flavor at every turn EXCEPT for the waygu. I will give credit where credit is due and admit the waygu was spectacular. But when 1 course in a 9 course omakase is the stand out - yikes. Otherwise several bites of fish were dry and overcooked. Almost all of the bites lacked flavor and if there was flavor is was exactly identical to the previous dish - the profile was not diverse. Walking away $1,200 in the hole for two people and a genuinely disappointing experience was so devastating.

Since I'm the one with the Yelp password, I overruled him and am calling it a 3. Not even a strong 3 - just very disappointing. We perused the menu, trying to catch the overall feel. The "what kind of restaurant do they want to be when they grow up?" I still can't tell you. Sushi, mushroom meatloaf, Cubano, tuna salad sandwich. I think they are trying to be something for everyone. We were seated quickly and had a small glass of water in front of us within a few minutes. (Just ask to keep the water carafe - it's quicker for everyone.) We needed a little extra time to order. We wanted to share something but nothing really stood out. We finally ended up ordering the incongruous combination of Trout Dip and the Nuevo Cubano. The dip, served with saltines, was basically tuna salad made with trout instead of tuna. Small dices of egg, celery, onions and a little yellow pepper. And let's not forget the salt. Dang was it salty (coming from a person who salts everything.) Definitely wouldn't get it again. The Cubano reminded me of what I would get if I had ordered it from the deli at Publix. Fresh baked bread with deli ham, a little, nothing special, pulled pork, cheese, pickles and dressing. Cut into thirds. A traditional Cubano is served pressed - the melted cheese holds everything together. This sandwich was a touch warm on the bottom, certainly not heated in any sense. Each third was just too thin to stay together. Bun slid one way, cheese another. Ham fell off while a pickle held on for dear life. It was nothing but a sloppy mess. Honestly, skip this one too. While my husband says he'd give R+D another shot, I'd just walk on by. A
