Lasun kheema
Vinh N.

Visited twice in one week. I'm a fan of Indian breakfast having been a regular customer of Pondicheri in the morning. There were two previous egg-centric restaurants in Houston that I was aware of, but they both didn't last too long. The first was Spicy Eggs where they didn't offer much on the menu beyond eggs and were on the much shadier part of Hillcroft north of Westpark. The second place around Highway 6, I never I went to; because it was too far of a drive for breakfast. I noticed that Eggmania opened at 11am which was later that I would expect. I guess people can do their shopping in the Gandhi district and stop in for a late one. What surprised me more was that this was not a counter service fast food restaurant. This location used to be Neetas, and it still features a bar. There are waiters that would come to your table. I mention this because I think it hampers the service. One night was a Sunday where I arrived into an empty restaurant only for two families to come in afterwards. Guess who got served first? Not this non-desi guy. With one waiter taking orders, the food took a while being in queue. I ended up ordering off the Eggmania winter menu which featured the lasun green garlic sauce. They also offered a vegetarian menu from a separate franchise, Jay Bhavani, which the waiter said was a new thing. I ordered a sandwich off of that but I guess that should be in another review. I ordered my lasun egg keema dish medium spice, but the spice overpowered the dish so much that I couldn't taste the garlic. I tolerate heat well, but that was just unbalanced. Second night was a Friday where it was busy with families. I saw two waiters that night. Both apologising to tables about the speed of the kitchen which was ominous. My food arrived on time. Again, i ordered a dish from each menu. The egg mania was an Australian fry, somewhat of a misnomer because the eggs are boiled, sliced, and then cooked in a buttery tomato gravy topped with cheese. Maybe a fry means something else in India. This time ordering the dish mild, there was minimal spice that was dominated by the butter. I did not mind this at all. That was delicious. I might even dare to get this dish raised to a medium spice level in the future given the butter and cheese.

Kala Kali Mari Chicken and Anda Lahori
Desh M.

Came here for lunch on a Saturday and it was pretty empty - we were easily able to get a table for 6. Ambience is simple but nice. We tried the masala omelet and chicken tikka kebabs to start. And then ordered anda lahori, kali mari chicken, makhan mari murg tikka, and their mango lassi. All the curries come with toast. We also ordered some extra naan. The food was okay. I've never had an egg curry like the anda lahori -- you really have to be in the mood for some egg for these egg dishes. We asked the kali mari chicken to be extra spicy and they delivered- we were sweating! The also have a full bar and TVs with cricket playing if you're looking for a spot to watch the game.

Eggmania hands down has the most amazing sandwiches. So far, I have tried this franchise in Chicago, Dallas, and Houston, and they do not disappoint. My favorites are their chicken and egg sandwiches, but they have other items, too, like fried rice and Kheema pav, which are pretty amazing. We have got take out in all locations, and their delivery and packaging have been good to not allow any spillover. Definitely recommend this restaurant. In my experience, all locations are consistent with flavor and service.

Cold Coco

This place has recently opened and is still in their soft opening phase. We heard about it from a friend and wanted to try something new. Google showed that they opened at 11:30am and we were there a few mins before their opening time, however, they didn't open till noon. The owners apologized for being late and said that they actually opened at noon and will update their hours on Google. They recommended a few dishes considering the age of my nephew and niece and so I ended up ordering their Surti gotala, which is their sunny side egg beaten with a lot of gravy and masala, their chicken masala sandwich, which had chicken, veggies, cheese and was a panini, and I ordered their cold coco that I had them split into two cups. Their cold coco is their signature drink, which is cold chocolate made with custard and they added cashews on top cuz my niece asked them to. The food was really good and they were very quick in bringing it out considering they had literally opened the door in front of us. The place is not too big and is nicely done with different type of seatings and has some good art work on the walls.

Delicious food. Surti husband loved the surti gotala. We also had paneer bhurji and it was amazing. My favorite was the egg katori - so so so good! The place is quite modern and decorated nicely. Service was great. Wish I had taken photos of the food but here's a photo of a funny sign that made us chuckle :)

Unfortunately, our experience was quite the opposite. The first thing we noticed when we entered the restaurant was a strong, unpleasant smell. Since we had specifically gone there to try the food, we still decided to dine in. We ordered chai, Mysore masala dosa, chole bhature, and samosas. None of the dishes really stood out. The food was just average; not terrible, but definitely not worth making the drive for. The chai in particular had almost no flavor, and we couldn't even finish it. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, especially given the hype. There are many better options in the Katy/Richmond area where you can find great food in a much more pleasant dining environment. The smell inside the restaurant was also concerning, as it raises questions about hygiene and food safety standards. For context, we visited on a Saturday morning around 11:30 AM, so it wasn't late in the day or close to closing time. Based on this experience, I wouldn't prefer to visit again.

I ordered through one of the delivery apps and scored a buy one get one free special, which made the value absolutely worth it. For the amount of food I received, the price was great. They even included bread on the side, which I appreciated and did not expect with the promo. What really stood out to me was how fast everything was. The food was ready within about seven minutes of me placing the order. That kind of efficiency is impressive. They were also very attentive and made sure everything was correct. As for the food itself, it tasted really good. The flavors were solid and satisfying. Is it the best Indian food I have ever had? No. But for the value, speed, and overall experience, it is definitely a place I would order from again. If you are looking for good Indian food at a great price point, especially when they are running specials, this spot is absolutely worth trying.

Our order included potato samosas (BOGO), the chicken 65 (BOGO), goat curry, palak paneer, and garlic naan. Samosas and the chicken 65 were both delicious; dip both in that mint sauce with the samosas to kick up the flavor. Be careful as the chicken 65 (mini fried chicken bites) have spiciness to it with a good amount of chili powder and pepper kicked in. The goat curry was alright, don't know if I would order it again as the grease was overwhelming. I wasn't a fan of the palak paneer, found it too runny and it was leaking when it was delivered to us. Also the garlic naan was a bit hard in the middle; maybe it's due to the packaging? Wouldn't mind ordering here again but we'll definitely do some different items. Hopefully the samosas and chicken 65 are still on the BOGO status cause we'll definitely take those again.

Their longevity (#1) of a near half century is nothing short of impressive, earning a nostalgic place in the hearts of many Houston diners, a good number of whom trace their first Indian cuisine experiences at this very location. While I do wish their success, it's hard not to point out minor mishaps in different aspects of the overall restaurant experience, which include: :: Awkward stares from the staff as they hover or stand in the middle of the room. It's understandable that they're monitoring to help where needed, but even then I will have to flag them down for water, napkins, or the bill. :: Buffet maintenance. They're semi-quick to replenish, but extremely slow at maintaining the cleanliness. Splatter from the daal makhani, a serving spoon not returned to the same serving tray, or even customers forgetting to close the bins at the dessert station (#2) could all be mitigated by a designated person keeping it tidy. :: Food quality. The tandoori chicken has been dry, the saag paneer could be creamier, and chicken tikka masala has had their bland days. Even the naan can be a bit too dry at times. Thankfully I've fared better with the chana masala and paneer makhani. I would also steer clear of their fruit punch. :: Decor is dark and dated. It still reminds me of a place that is stuck in time, which for most experiences are usually my favorite. The natural lighting during lunch alleviates this slightly, but the dinner hour makes this place feel like eating in an older hotel lobby. The vibes are most definitely challenging. :: Foodflation. Another price hike in the last year brings the buffet price to just under $22. While it's a nice jump from what it was previously, it does leave me wishing for more, especially when the prices keep climbing. ___________ (#1) 46 years. Pros -There were a lot of vegetarian options that taste good. I actually thought the vegetarian choices tastes better than non-veg. My favorite veg dish was the mushroom masala fry, and my favorite non-veg was the Virudhu Nagar Chicken Pakora. -We got seated upstairs and although it's a lot of going up and downstairs to get food, I thought it was nice to be seated upstairs near the entrance so we got to see the whole restaurant. The buffet area looks impressive. I liked this portion of the restaurant but do feel that space is limited especially with large parties. -Staff were all very nice and helpful. -There was a dosa station. I didn't get to try because I was just so full! Cons -We went during lunchtime and although we didn't have to wait for a table, it was crowded at the buffet area when getting food, and at times people take a longer time getting food. -The non-veg was a bit disappointing as the taste was a bit bland, especially the curry types which should be bursting with flavors. -They offered a special fish dish but it has bones which I don't prefer. -They did not have my favorite puri when we were there! No Indian buffet restaurant should ever run out of puri or not offer! -There was mango ice cream and a variety of other desserts!
