I've been a fan of Eggettes since day one. My go to used to be lychee milk tea but now it's lychee fruit tea. I do appreciate the real fruit bits they have in their drinks and being able to adjust how sweet it is. The eggettes are worth trying as well. I've searched far and wide but this is by far the best cafe that serves imitation shark fin soup. The soup base, the amount of sesame oil added to it, really brings to mind the imitation shark fin I had when I visited Hong Kong. And since Eggettes opened decades ago, this taste has stayed true and consistent, thank you for preserving this taste! A few other notable items to mention is the rice rolls (soft and gooey) and with the sauce you would usually find in HK: sesame sauce and the complementary soy sauce (don't pour too much, it does really get too salty when you mix it with the sesame sauce) and of course, the eggettes themselves! HONEYDEW EGGETTES WHERE YA AT?? Why is it that everytime I visit, honeydew flavor eggettes aren't available?! waaah!! I came here with a friend on a Monday evening 5pm-ish. There was HELLA parking outside and barely anyone inside. A couple kids and their parents came trickling in here and there to order boba/eggettes, then leaving. So I ordered a milk tea with boba and coconut flavored eggettes since they weren't serving the honeydew that day. The eggettes came out fresh and hot but lacked a strong coconut flavor. Come to think of it, I don't think I tasted any coconut at all except like two or three pieces. I still enjoyed my eggettes though because they were really fresh and satisfied my craving at that time. Honeydew flavor is the best, for sure. Hopefully when I visit next time honeydew is an option! The milk tea boba wasn't anything special, I think their other drinks are better but tend to be super sweet. Anyone who knows me knows that I absolutely HATE wasting food, because I'm that friend who nags others about finishing their food to the last bite, the last drop, "think about the starving children in the world!!", etc. etc. But wtf Eggettes, you got me, because I think this is the first time I've thrown an order away. Chocolate eggette: The edges are cut sloppily and the center is mushy like an undercooked pancake. I'm used to egg waffles being moist or chewy, but this is just plain doughy. The chocolate flavoring tastes like diluted, cheap hot cocoa. After pulling apart a piece, there was LINT in the egg waffle, like a long, gray piece of lint. Whyyyyy Toffee milk tea: I got this with no ice and less sweet, which was still sugary af. The first thing I noticed was the overcooked boba... Super gooey and unappetizing. The light toffee flavoring initially goes well with the milk tea, but later leaves this fructose aftertaste. I'm no stranger to syrups and powders in milk teas, but this has that weird plastic flavor that screams artificial. The workers here were friendly but inattentive... Trash on the tables and floor, and all they did was text, talk to each other, or space out. It's unacceptably dirty indoors-- floor is grimy/sticky and the walls have drink splatters. I honestly find Eggettes to be very decent! It is not the best upon all the other boba shops that dominate SF, but it satisifes my cravings and my wallet haha. I really love how the menu for drinks and snacks is very simple and straight forward. There are a few options for both menus and I feel like thats helpful because it gets very overwhelming when there are so many choices on the menu, you do not know what the heck to get anymore. I love the egg puffs of course, hence the name of the store haha. So soft and fluffy, has a perfect chew. I have tried the Taro Milk Tea, I love how they use taro chunks!! I came here on a Sunday and the shop was packed with family with their kids. This location is right next to a ice creamery so you can kill two birds with one stone meaning that you can get ice cream right after your eggettes. I got their malt milk tea and original flavor eggettes here. The malt milk tea was a bit on the sweet side but the eggettes made up for it. The original flavor here is my favorite but they also have chocolate and coconut. The drinks here are also really good. On normal days I usually get the regular milk tea with boba. On my last day in San Francisco I was fortunate enough to be able to meet up with an old school friend (and one of the best people in my life) who lives in the city. I told her I wanted to see San Francisco from her point of view, screw the touristy places, I wanted to see and go to places that she as a local enjoyed. One of our (many!) stops that day was Eggettes, a cute little boba spot in the Outer Sunset district. My friend had rave reviews about Eggettes, and said it was some of the best boba she had ever had so I was excited to give it a shot. Being rather new to boba I asked for mine with light, I wish I would have asked for more, it was delicious - perfectly refreshing and chewy. I went with the Mango-Orange drink at the suggestion of my friend and I was not disappointed. We also shared an original Eggette, which is an interesting concept to me. It's basically a waffle, but parts of it are paper thin and then other parts form these little rip-able egg shaped fluffy mounds of goodness. Served piping hot it was delicious, and I'm not sure if it's available but it would be wonderful if they offered some dipping sauces to go with them (chocolate? maple syrup? caramel...) Service was fast efficient and friendly. Both the seating area and the restroom were kept very clean and there was a wide selection of outlets (about 2 per table) for people to lounge and charge their mobile devices. I used to come to eggettes a LOT after playing volleyball closeby for an affordable boba drink and snack. I was and still am a big fan of their milk teas because I feel their boba drinks aren't super sweet and have that tea taste that I like. Their pearls have a good and consistent texture as well; doesn't melt in the mouth and doesn't have that hard core in the middle. Recently I went for something new and tried their lychee milk tea. I love the fact that they have lychee bits in there! On a day when I'm not feeling adventurous, I would get their thai tea, regular black milk tea, or honeydew milk tea. I think I will start trying their blended drinks or freezes since I never had them before and they seem popular. Well, now onto what they are REALLY known for: their egg puffs! I have tried their regular egg puffs, and their flavored ones (chocolate, honeydew, and coconut). They always seem to have the regular and chocolate flavored ones out everyday, and occasionally switch up the third one to a more unique flavor (and about .50 more compared to the regular egg puffs). I just tried the coconut one a few days ago and it was delicious, but I still think the honeydew ones are still my favorite (The inside of the honeydew ones are green!) Hopefully the next time I come here, they will have a new flavor being offered. They offer other snacks as well, from imitation shark fin soup to curry fish balls. I've had both and I wouldn't come here only for that, but I'd have to say their shark fin soup would be great for a cold SF day or if you're feeling sick. I don't know if there is MSG in it but I wouldn't be surprised. There's a decent amount of seating, and one restroom for customers. Parking isn't bad because it's in the middle of a residential neighborhood and there are spots all along the block. They used to have computers to use the internet but not anymore. They're made in a waffle like iron, served on a sheet of around 24 and are slightly chewy. The shark fin soup here is really good too. The texture and taste is perfect.
