While in Arlington Heights I stopped for breakfast. The cafe is tucked in a shopping center. For a Thursday morning we were seated right away and the food was served in a timely manner. Service was standard and the atmosphere was relaxing. I was disappointed with the cinnamon apple pancakes. My expectations were more of an apple pie filling on top of delicious pancakes, but nothing was reminiscent of apple pie and the pancake flavor was not great. Found this place on yelp and was not disappointed. From the moment we walked in staff was so nice and friendly. There are so many amazing options. I went with the sunrise Benedict and it was amazing. A little heavy on the hollandaise sauce but still delicious. And home fries were cooked perfectly. My bf had the lumberjack skillet and it was amazing. We also shared a crepe and a pecan banana pancake. Both were amazing. Strong coffee too. I wanted to try all the yummy mimosa options they have but it was too early. Delish! I am a sucker for a good breakfast/ lunch cafe, and Eggcellence is just that. We came by for brunch on Sunday afternoon and the restaurant wasn't too crazy. There is plenty of parking as it is located in a strip nearby Tony's market. The restaurant has a super homey and cozy atmosphere. The other folks in the restaurant seemed to have been regulars and all recognized each other as they arrived. It was heart warming to see everyone so excited to eat and engage with the staff so fondly. For my meal I got the country Benedict, where it was a mix of eggs Benedict and biscuits and gravy, along with their breakfast hash. The gravy was light but super flavorful, and they cooked the egg to perfection where it was runny but was still cooked enough to not be enjoyable with every bite. It's been almost a week and I'm still thinking about our experience here and can't wait to come back. :) Love that it's so close to home, and am already planning another visit soon! read more

This popular location has a large menu of breakfast choices. I was sorely tempted by the breakfast panini special but went with biscuits and gravy instead. Portions are large and the food was solid with nothing to complain about. The fiance loved her cream of chicken with rice soup. The chicken bacon ranch wrap was large and tasty, half of it had to go home to be finished later. Mother-in-law ordered strawberry pancakes and they were big and fluffy and she dug into it enthusiastically. Half of this went home with us, too. It's a lot of food. When we arrived, we were seated right away. It was busy but not packed yet. Water was given to us quick by an employee but server did not come to our table for a good 5+ minutes. My mom ordered tea and asked for honey, which they gave her a nearly empty bottle that had one good squeeze out of it. The server stated they'd bring some from their personal stash over which was nice but also not sure why a restaurant that serves tea doesn't have the "normal" accompaniments on hand. When food came out, my mother's eggs were cooked incorrectly so had to wait for it to come back out. My food was good, I got ham, eggs, and pancakes. Pancakes were delicious! According to my mother who lives in the area, this place opened just as the pandemic was beginning. I liked their interior decor and they have a nice set up for outdoor dining. We were helped immediately and we received our food quickly. They do lose some points because we did make some changes to our menu choices and unfortunately those changes did not reach us. What we did try (chicken sandwich and Meat Lover's Skillet) were good (with the exception of the changes we made and were not reflected in our food). An alright place to have breakfast. The restaurant is conveniently located in a large strip mall nearby Target and Tony's Finer Foods. It's very easy to park here with a very large parking lot and being away from the major roads. The service is fast and friendly, without much of a delay for getting seated, getting your order taken, and receiving the bill. The restaurant itself isn't huge, but the seating is spaced fairly well so you don't feel like you're being crammed at all. The decor is a bit unique, with the feel of sitting at tables in an outdoor cafe. Food prices are reasonable, with quite a bit of different flavor options available on the menu -- and portion sizes are fairly generous. I found the food itself to be fairly simple, and forgettable. There wasn't anything particularly special about the execution or flavoring of the food, though nothing I tried was bad either. The sausage links were standard, and of the slightly thicker type. Scrambled eggs were fully cooked, though not particularly fluffy. The cinnamon bread french toast had a nice egg flavor to it, but the bread itself isn't particularly special. The hash browns were crisped nicely on the edges. The avocado, bacon, and tomato got lost in the California omelette, with the pepper jack cheese dominating the flavor and the salsa not matching particularly well with the dish. The pancakes were nice and fluffy with a good level of chewniess, and the best item I tried on my trip. Food presentation was good, with items nicely arranged on the plates. Overall, this isn't a bad option for breakfast, with a standard level of cooking for your favorites. But, it also doesn't stand out in a crowded suburban market with restaurants nearby that push unique ideas and highly refined execution at comparable prices. read more
