Everyone enjoyed their breakfast from here! I give bonus points for the gluten free menu and the option to sub sweet potatoes. They were busy when we arrived but it was not a bad wait at all. The restaurant was clean and had a farmhouse vibe to it. The food was excellent so I can see why all of the tables were full
The food is good but expect a wait! Could be because it was Lollapalooza weekend, but there were so many people waiting when we arrived. They told us the wait would be around 30 minutes and that's exactly how long it took. We have an excellent server named Jacob who was attentive and quick with our requests.
Breakfast was so good! I had the Geneva Rösti with fresh fruit & strawberry orange juice. Outstanding!
Visiting Chicago for the first time with our 1 year old son. After searching for a breakfast spot, we came across egg harbor cafe and thought it might be the perfect place to fuel us up for the morning. We had a short walk from our hotel. There was no wait when we got there so we were able to get immediately seated which was perfect. It was around 8:30am on a Friday morning. They had an area where we were able to park our stroller and had high chairs and a kids menu available. The food came out super fast and was delicious. Our son ate everything on his plate (eggs, toast, chicken sausage). I did a build your own with sides and got the sourdough toast, turkey bacon, eggs, and a side of avocado. It was fresh and tasted great. We also got a side pancake that we all shared and it was so yummy. My husband got one of the scrambles and he said it was really good. Perfect place to take kids, not crowded when we went but was starting to fill up around 9:30am. The restaurant was clean, open, and you got a good view of the city with the big windows! Great place to check out for a quick and easy breakfast.
Egg Harbor Cafe is a very large and loud restaurant with a lot of food options. I had a build your own scrambled which was delicious. I chose all the sauces (hollandaise, red salsa, sour cream) and they were all great and complimented the food nicely. You can tell the hollandaise and salsa are made in house. The jelly that came with the English muffin was also really good. And the potatoes were flavorful and not greasy. Our server was attentive and very personable. Definitely recommend this place for breakfast.
Wow what a great experience. Service from Jacob was amazing and the food was really nice (my husband had the biscuits and gravy, and I had the crêpes with avocado and mushroom). Coffees were delightful... Real maple syrup, homemade jam. Swift service and the ambience is darling! That's the price of all was they do not use seed oils so they're fabulous breakfast potatoes were made in beef tallow (what an amazing surprise! 5-stars
Went to Egg Harbor Café after it was recommended by somebody at the gym for a delicious breakfast. Boy, she didn't steer us wrong. The service was absolutely excellent. She gave us the tip to put our names in ahead of time as this is a very busy location. We had the most delicious strawberry mimosas. I had the Joe's scrambler. It was so yummy and so cheesy along with potatoes and an English muffin. This is a must to see!
Did a pickup order and took it back to the hotel since we were still packing up as we were leaving that same day. We will dine in on our next trip. But ordered the Strawberry Crunch French Toast. Yes, Im aware that takeout and sitting in isn't the same thing. But the hotel wasn't even a 5 minute walk away. So, it was still fresh, in my opinion. Long story short, ate all of the French toast in one sitting. Then fell asleep for a goid hour, hour half. So, I'd say it's delectable for my taste. The kids cheeseburger also worked for an appetite, but not too much on the heavy side. Perfect for a youngster or if you're not hungry. As mentioned, the ambiance seemed welcoming and will sit down the next time. Also, the service was exceptional as the order was ready by the time I arrived. Thank you Egg Harbor Cafe.I will be back!
Came back again and still enjoyed the food and overall experience. Service remains friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere is bright and welcoming. One thing I wanted to mention this time around; the chairs can be pretty loud when people move them across the concrete floors. It gets a bit irritating on the ears, especially during busy times. Adding cushions or pads underneath the chairs would probably make a big difference and help reduce the noise. Overall, still a solid spot that I'd return to, just hoping for a small fix to make the dining experience even better.
After running a race, the natural next step is brunch. My girlfriend has been raving about how much she liked Egg Harbor so naturally I had to give a try. On a cold day, the gourmet hot chocolate was a great starter for me and really set the tone for my meal. I ended up getting a skillet with all sorts of fixings that had me very full. The English muffin on the side was delicious and the jam was fantastic. Bonus points for their gluten-free menu. They have so many options and take great precautions to ensure that gluten-free customers can dine comfortably.
First time at Egg Harbor Cafe and our last stop before heading home. This is definitely one of our favorite places we ate. We will definitely be coming back. We enjoyed brunch with delicious dishes. We ordered a Matcha Latte, a Chai Tea Latte, a Latte and Coffee. All the drinks were served hot, not too sweet, just perfect in a cloudy snowy day. For our main dish we ordered a California Club, a Smoked Salmon Avocado Toast, a Traditional Breakfast and a Barrington Benedict. All dishes were served promptly. There were no left overs. My party was very happy with everything they ordered. Our waiter, Christian P., was very nice, polite and attentive. Great service. This is large space but has customers constantly coming in. I loved the decor. My favorite were the coffee cups they use. They also offer them for sale.
We came here after putting our name down at another place, and decided to walk the block to see if there were more options and stumbled upon Egg Harbor. All staff we encountered were kind, and shout out to our server as I had many questions that she helped me through. You can find just about anything on their menu which is a plus. I ordered the loaded potatoes with a side of their homemade cinnamon roll. Both were just ok! Both were equally dry, unfortunately. Even with adding the icing that came with the cinnamon roll, and the melted cheese on the potatoes. My fiance got a breakfast sandwich, which was also just ok. Loved how bright it was inside and how spacious it is! There appeared to be a patio area that seems like it would be hit with nice weather.
I was honestly extremely disappointed with my experience here. The biggest issue was the service. There was literally a hair in my fruit, and when I pointed it out, our server didn't apologize or acknowledge it at all. He just stood there until I specifically asked for a replacement. I found his behavior throughout the entire meal extremely rude and off putting. On top of that, it was incredibly stuffy inside the restaurant. As for the food, it was just alright. I honestly don't see myself coming back, especially because of the rude server.
Now this is a breakfast! I'm still thinking about my sweet Carolina one, the peppers and onion tasted fresh, the sweet potatoes cooked so perfect. The pancake, fluffy with flavor. Place was busy but worth the wait. The server was friendly and was able to sit outside. Place gets busy fast! read more

Some of the best breakfast in the city! Everything tastes so fresh and even the black coffee is flavorful. There can be quite a wait on weekends but it's well worth it. Prices can be a little high but it is river north so it's to be expected. A scramble is around $18 but comes with unlimited veggies and cheese. read more

Loved this place. The food was delicious, the coffee was surprisingly good, and the service was great and came with a big smile. Charity was so friendly and we enjoyed the small talk. We even bought a coffee cup to take back home to Tampa. 10/10 recommend eating here. read more

Love finding a local breakfast spot that serves unique breakfast options. Huge selection of breakfast choices. There's truly something for everyone here. There was a long line but they're very organized and do notifications to your cell. We had a 20 minute wait. Server was attentive and helpful. Food came out FAST! They're happy to accommodate including subbed fruit for potatoes and offered the cream cheese frosting on the side of my challah French toast. Bacon can be normal thin or thick sliced with chorizo or even turkey sausage options too. You can't go wrong in this place. Ample seating and bigger tables for groups. read more

Egg Harbor Café is hands down one of the best breakfast and brunch spots around! Whether you're stopping in for a quick bite or a leisurely morning meal, this place has everything you need to start your day off right. The menu is packed with delicious options, from classic breakfast staples like fluffy pancakes and perfectly cooked omelets to creative dishes like their signature Harbor Benedict or the dynamite chilaquiles. They also cater to a variety of dietary needs with gluten-free and healthy options that are just as flavorful. Don't forget to try their fresh-squeezed juices or specialty coffee drinks--they're the perfect complement to your meal! Service is very friendly and knowledgeable too. First time here saw a lot of good reviews and decided to give it a try. The people were really nice and the location was really appealing. The food was kinda blah. Like if wasn't nasty but it def lacked seasoning. My friend order the scrambler and it was filled with egg shells and she got sick at the restaurant. We told the waitress and comped her bill which was really nice and the manager came over and expressed his apologies and offered literally everything. I got the skillet with a French toast which just was blah. Again it wasn't nasty just wasn't well seasoned. The fruit was probably the best thing on the plate. Would I try it again... hmmm idk but it's worth giving a try. Maybe just an off day read more

We arrived around 9am to wait for about 25 minutes. Quick moving line! Food came out quickly and was delicious! The fresh jalapeño in the skillet was perfect balance for the dish (I also despise pickled jalapeños!)... and the iced brown sugar latter.... omg! Way better any others you may have had, especially a big chain! read more

DELICIOUS. Egg Harbor Cafe would be my go to brunch spot if I lived in Chicago. Everything I ate was so good. My husband and I showed up at 1pm and we didn't have to wait too long to be sat. The place is cute and gives a home feel. The menu is quite large so make sure you peruse it all. Our waitress was attentive and checked in on us pretty often. I got a matcha latte, which in my opinion wasn't very good. I personally like a matcha that isn't too sweet and this one was sweet and watery if that makes sense. My husband got a brown sugar latte which was also sweet but not overly sweet and it was also STRONG - definitely woke me up. My husband got the Habanero Hash and Eggs which was FULL of flavor. My husband eats spicy and this definitely met his standards. The texture of the hash browns was perfectly cooked and he got his eggs just like he liked. I personally do not chorizo so I did not get to try it but he loved it. I got the Dynamite Veggie White Omelet which was also super full of flavor! The English muffin was toasted nicely and paired well with my omelet. It was cheesy and warm, a true comfort breakfast. The fruit was fresh and I liked that they gave me more than just melon and cantaloupe. We also got the lemon poppyseed pancakes, which were the star of the meal. These pancakes were the fluffiest and softest pancakes I've ever had. The lemon flavor was not overpowering; there was a glaze on top that added the perfect amount of sweetness. Truly so so DELICIOUS. I salivate at the thought of them because of how good they were. I would come back to Egg Harbor Cafe for these pancakes alone. read more

Cute little breakfast place with a great variety of options. The coffee came in cute mugs and tasted strong. The "Shauna's sun-up" yogurt was filled with fruit and granola and was a healthy way to start the day. The banana bread accompaniment was a tasty treat. The Swedish pancakes were delicious thin crepe-like rolled pancakes with lingonberry butter and lingonberries, which made it really unique. Service was good and both dishes were delicious. They had a lot of other good-looking options on the menu. I recommend coming early to avoid a busy time, and then have a great breakfast. read more

Was seated quickly on a Thurs morning for two. The waiter had a number of tables to wait on but was attentive and quick. We were seated at a booth and right away noticed that the seats were not cleaned. Lots of crumbs and the floor wasn't swept before new customers were seated. The food tasted ok and the latte was good. However, the skillet was drowning in oil. I ended up picking out the pieces that weren't drenched in oil to finish. read more

Egg Harbor has a bunch of locations around Chicago. This location on Illinois Avenue is a busy location but a great spot close enough to everything. If luck is on your side, Cecilia will be your server. She somehow manages to be a kite in a hurricane. Whirling through the dining room at breakneck speed. She's super and you'll love her. While I didn't eat off the Egg Harbor the two times we were there my dining companions did and believe it when I say they didn't have any issues. Let me repeat that, neither dining companion had an issue with their meals. One of my dining companions is very particular. Cecilia had him in check and made him extremely happy. No small feat mind you. One would say that she took on an impossible mission and left Ethan Hunt in her dust. I do have to say my Oat Milk Latte with an extra shot was really good. If you're a vegan skip the plant-based sausage as it is most likely cooked on a shared cooking surface. I learned the hard way. read more

This was a nice and tidy place, solidly good service. I got the strawberry crunch French toast, and it was pretty good. Thick slices of challah, house-made strawberry cream cheese, fresh berries, and some of their granola sprinkled over the top. It was a creative twist on a classic. However, I also got an iced chai latte that was flat and devoid of almost any flavor, so that was disappointing. Otherwise I'd probably give this a four-star rating. Based off the drink only, it'd be a single star, but giving three because everything else was still good. read more

Egg Harbor Café is the kind of place that always hits the spot for a relaxed, delicious brunch. The menu is full of fresh, high-quality ingredients, and they always find ways to add unique twists to classic dishes. My Favorite - Strawberry Crunch French Toast This isn't just any French toast--it's next level! They take thick, fluffy slices of perfectly golden French toast and top it with a creamy, tangy, and slightly sweet strawberry crunch topping made in the most creative way--they use the fresh strawberry pulp from their house-made strawberry juice, mix it with yogurt, and turn it into this insanely good topping! The result? A super fresh, naturally sweet, and slightly tangy contrast to the rich French toast. The added crunch takes it over the top! Other Great Picks: Egg Dishes - Classic, well-made, and always satisfying. Coffee & Fresh-Squeezed Juices - Their fresh juices (like strawberry!) are so refreshing. Why I Keep Coming Back: Creative, fresh ingredients with a focus on quality Great balance of sweet & savory brunch options Warm, welcoming atmosphere with friendly service Consistently great food that never disappoints Can get busy on weekends, so be ready for a wait! Final Thoughts: If you're a brunch lover or a French toast fanatic, Egg Harbor Café is a must-visit! The Strawberry Crunch French Toast is hands down one of the best around, and I love how they repurpose fresh ingredients in such a creative way. Can't wait for my next visit! read more

Yesterday was my birthday (turned 54) and my boyfriend took me there. One of our favorite breakfast restaurants in the city. Our server was friendly and over the top which was fine We both ordered iced Americano (they were out of Nitro cold brew) and strawberry orange juice which was good. I had the Belgium Waffle and Bacon. The waffle was fluffy and good. And smells amazing. My boyfriend had an Eggs Benedict which looks amazing. The place was busy which is good for them. Our table was by the window so we could watch people and dogs walking by. I will come back for breakfast with or without the boyfriend read more

While visiting Chicago we decided to get something to eat. We were hungry so we stopped here. The restaurant was closing soon but they still let us in. The people were so kind. The restaurant was clean. The food was just okay though. I felt like they gave us stuff that they just wanted to get rid of before they close the kitchen. My meat in my skillet was hard, as if they burned it and the potatoes were hard too. They ended up giving us new potatoes; they tasted fine. I don't think I would eat here again if I visited Chicago. read more

We ordered a pickup order for $100. We tipped graciously and my friend said to check the order before we left. The guy said its all there. It wasn't. They failed to include the biggest meal in order. One order of eggs dry and looked gross as if they were reheated (not that they were but totally had that look), the avocado on their avocado omelet was so old and dark it needed to be picked out. Avocados don't do well once cut open, but I had a Buona Beef hamburger recently and it had avocado and it was much fresher looking. Potatoes were okay. Fruit was okay. The omelet with egg whites was good, but I'd skip that avocado omelet. Bacon pieces were laced on the bottom making it inedible. Tossed it. Not a fan of this Egg Harbor. The order had a big error we caught before we left. Something else was missing, but we realized after we left. Sucks to have a meh experience. Disappointing. Potatoes good, egg white omelet decent, fruit fresh-ish. Only reason for 3 stars read more

Cute place with good food and good vibes. Walked here from our hotel on our last day in Chicago and was surprised with how large this restaurant is. Super tall ceilings and a ton of tables. The menu is quite extensive. I had a hard time choosing, but ultimately went with the Farmer's Market Benedict. I was definitely disappointed with the flavor of the hollandaise and thought the dish could use more flavor overall, but the potatoes were amazing. I especially loved that they were topped with scallions. Joe's Healthy Scrambler was excellent and the portions were great. The playlist on the speakers was awesome. Staff was friendly and plentiful. Prices were decent. Overall, had a nice experience and would probably return if I find myself in the area again. read more

I'll start by saying our waitress was a great part of the experience here. She was very bubbly and personable. The location is in downtown Chicago and has small diner vibes. We got the shrimp and grits and the lobster scramble to eat and a coffee and strawberry orange juice to drink. Both orders came out fast. The lobster scramble had a good flavor and had a decent portion of lobster. However, there was some artificial crab in there, so I can tell why the price was so reasonable. It was kinda hard to tell what was real lobster or not. The shrimp and grits was pretty bland. There was a lack of flavor other than the cheese that was on the top. I think they would do well to add some Cajun spice to the dish and rename it, perhaps. Coffee was good, and I like that I get to pour my own cups from a pitcher left at the table. The strawberry orange juice was pretty okay as well and tasted fresh. Overall, it was an overall good experience, but I expected more from the dishes, which is why I only gave four stars. Service was great, and the extra sausage gravy was probably some of the best I've had since coming to Illinois. I'll come again another time to try out some other stuff, though. Probly get the biscuits and gravy together. Maybe update this review as well. read more

I really needed a pick-me-up before my flight back to NYC. Stumble upon this brunch spot with a cute interior design. I ordered the Maple Bourbon Bacon, Lobster Scrambler, San Antonio Skillet, Blue Lagoon Latte, and black coffee. The Maple Bourbon Bacon was crispy, thick, chewy, and sweet. It was the perfect combination of Maple syrup on the bacon. Lobster Scrambler is a lobster omelet over hollandaise sauce with a side of potatoes and an English muffin. Lobster Scrambler would have been better if the dish was not drenched with hollandaise sauce. I had to scrape the hollandaise sauce to the side so I can taste the omelet. San Antonio Skillet was actually my favorite dish. The pork chorizo was cooked to perfection. The jalapeño gave your mouth a good kick. The potatoes on this dish were more crisper than the ones on the lobster scrambler. Blue Lagoon Latte was made of blue butterfly flower tea with coconut milk. Blue Lagoon Latte tastes like coconut ice cream but in a drink form. It was mainly for photo ops. I really wanted the Toffee Latte, I asked our waitress if we could make the toffee latte dairy-free, or substitute the milk with almond or coconut, but she was unsure if it was possible, so I settled for Blue Lagoon Latte... Next time I'm in Chicago, I might come back to try their other dishes. read more

Came here about a month ago for brunch on a Saturday morning with a group of five. Being that it's in downtown Chicago there was a 40 min wait (So I recommend rsvp'ing ahead of time). Once we were seated in a booth, we were able to enjoy ourselves. It was comfortable, busy, but cozy and inviting for the start of a weekend. Our waitress was really kind. I got a make my own skillet from the GF menu and a oatmilk matcha latte. The skillet was delicious and the matcha latte was really frothy (Lacked matcha tbh) but the warm oatmilk made it a nice enough beverage kind of like warm milk lol. I think it's worth coming and trying them, specially if you are a breakfast person. read more
