This was a ok experience but we will not come again. It started with a cashier not very friendly and it really didn't improve. I got a grit bowl where the bell peppers were raw -not cooked and the cheese was not melted . My husband Got a Orange cinnamon roll which had a good flavor and pretty big. He got a monte cristo which sadly was small and the potatoes had very little seasoning. My son got a croissant egg/cheese/sausage he ate most of it so I'm assuming he was ok with it. Really wanted to like this bakery, the merch at the front and the whimsical window displays were nice, but I did noticed a lot of un-bussed tables while I was here. I only intended to get a snack but they had warm pecan rolls and orange rolls. I went with the orange roll and a latte, decent but maybe I just missed a huge lunch rush and they were still recovering. The staffers were friendly but few and far between, maybe that's why the tables were not addressed. There was someone placing a cake order as well as the normal line for ordering. I wished there was a trash can that you could bus your own table with but I could not locate one. when I left the majority of the tables had plates and things that needed to be picked up. Nice place to stop for a treat. Like the proverbial kid in a candy store, it's always fun to stand at the bakery case and find something special. Today we got a couple petit fors and sugar cookies. The cookies were pretty good, and cute, but I'll be honest--these are not my favorites. There are lots of "boutique" cookie places that specialize in just cookies, and have a firmer, denser cookie, and a thinker, more opaque royal icing. And let's not even talk abut their loaf cakes. The chocolate and caramel apple loaf cakes will have you committing the sin of gluttony until you have eaten every last crumb. Their lemon cake is sweet, but with the perfect hint of tart lemony goodness. And their petit fours, oh man another chance to commit gluttony. I love getting all of the flavors and sitting done and savoring every last one. Don't judge me, I love sweets I've used several of their locations and service quality of the product never changes. The staff are always kind and cheerful and the cakes are always fresh. The quality of the staff can be the driving force behind repeat customers and I can honestly say that they care about there business and their customers. I have come to this Edgar's location a few times. I am not sure I have anything really extensive at any Edgar's location. But I will say that they all seem to be extremely clean, have friendly service and all smell like amazing baked goods when you walk in. I usually have their coffee when I go in. Even their pour over coffee is really good. I have come here for meetings and that is usually the only thing I get since I'm not a huge sweets person. All of that said, I have had the strawberry cake on numerous occasions at various functions. And I dare you to find a better strawberry cake anywhere else. Since my last review regarding horrible service, my wife wanted to give this Bakery a try. This time she ordered couple of Pumpkin cakes to be taken to our family Thanksgiving dinner. Ordered last weekend to be picked up Tuesday afternoon before Thanksgiving. Be hold, moldy cakes!! I've called Edgar's and they have asked for pictures and some sort of dates on the package. They told me someone will call back asap. I took the photos and emailed them less than 5 mins after getting off the phone. Well.. no one called back. This was expected as their service has been poor. What Edgar's Bakery did not do is per Alabama Health standards, they did not put any dates on the packaging. Likely made these way in advance and did not put any sale by or freeze by date label. Who knows when these things were baked and how it was made. By looks of it, very little sanitary care was put in to make these. And potential very dangerous product!! If in fact made the same day as picked up (which is the point of pre-order for maximum freshness), I believe everyone should be concerned as this type of growth shouldn't happened. read more

Amazing bakery. All the desserts here are so good and always fresh and home baked. The orange rolls are so amazing and made with orange zest and better than any ice ever had before. Every time I have gone to this location it early morning and I have had a young college student. And as I'm leaving I always say "thank you" to them and I never get a "thank you" back and when I was a waitress that's huge for people to say it back, because it showed respect and that we are happy to help them. And recently I went and have a younge student first yr college at lest. When I asked her something she rolled her eyes at me; I had ordered a dirty chia tea latte and when I got to work which is 5minutes from this Edgar's. My latte was already cold and not even to the top of the cup it was a half of a finger below the rim. When I called the headquarters the service was quick and fast. But when I got my gift card for the inconvenience they had put a blank note card in with the gift card, it didn't state anything on it or how much the gift card was for. it would of been nice if they had said on the blank note card itself "sorry for the inconvenience here is a $$$$ gift card for your inconvenience and thank you for taking the time to call us so we can make it right" something along these lines. I came in around 5pm, I understand it was almost closing time, the one employee seemed annoyed by the mere presence of any customer coming in. My order was rushed and packaged sloppy and careless. Who wants spend nearly $30 on 12 cupcake to find looking like this when opened??? I was very disappointed, especially since they were to be decorated for a baby shower. Update. Years after having my first Edgar's strawberry cake I'm still in love with it. I haven't had anything from Edgar's that I haven't loved. I'm definitely a fan of this local chain. Such a great part of the delightful Birmingham scene, and giving love to the suburbs!!! This location in particular is one that I love because it is great for meeting friends or business associates for a morning or afternoon bite. I always see people having morning meetings in here and, when I have the chance, I schedule morning meetings here too. Great little outdoor seating area for those rare mild weather days in Birmingham. Now for what you really want to know about...the food! I really like some of the hot breakfast items, especially the bread pudding pancakes and cheese grits. My favorite thing at Edgar's is the the strawberry cake. It is indeed one of the best cakes I have ever had. You can get a whole cake and they have individual slices for sale too. They have many other pastry items and my mother loves the chocolate cake. Many people love love love their coffee but I dont particularly like it. Often on special occasions I get one of the signature cakes (strawberry, caramel, or red velvet) and get something written on it. Well, here's the thing...Edgar's gets 5 stars, and they do so for a variety of reasons. It must have been way back around 2002 or 2003...I was in college and I remember being first introduced to their strawberry cake. A girl I was dating at the time received one from her dad for her birthday, and from that moment on, for well over a decade, this has been my go-to cake for any occasion which calls for cake. I remember eating the last slice of it and she became enraged, and ever since then I've been buying these cakes and trying to use them to get myself out of all kinds of trouble. Most of the time it works. There simply isn't a better option out there in the world that I've ever seen. Need to apologize for something? Cheer someone up? Celebrate a special occasion? Give yourself a dose of cake that's worthy of the gods and capable of sending a diabetic person straight to their death bed? Problem solved. Get the strawberry cake from Edgar's. If you aren't pleased, feed me the unused portion and I'll refund your money. I can't tell you how many times over the years that I've used this cake to gain some advantage in some scenario or another. Its magical, its heavy, you can't eat more that a normal sized slice or you'll have gone to far before you know it. It may well be one of those rare things that crosses all the lines that divide humanity and is capable of bringing people from all walks of life together. It could hold the key to world peace. I'm not sure, but it certainly seems like that could be the case. If you meet someone who doesn't love this cake, don't trust them. Something is wrong with them. I'm serious. Now, all that being said, the cake isn't the only thing that Edgar's has going on. For example, the place is very tidy, a little bustling, and full of employees who seem to genuinely enjoy what they're doing. That's a big thing for me. No one wants to be served by an oppressed-looking worker. So there's that. Besides that, they also offer a variety of items for lunch which can be had for prices that are more than reasonable, and which are of a level of quality that should meet or exceed the expectations of the most discerning eater. You like a sandwich or a wrap made with fresh stuff that tastes delicious? Well then get down there and place your order. Because that's what they've got. Bowl of soup? Cookies? Loaf of bread? Box of random baked treats? Little gifts for your mom like funny aprons and things of that nature? Why are you still reading this? Go now. Get the cake. Have some lunch. Leave with a coffee. Take a box of treats to a bunch of people that you need to make amends to. Edgar's makes it easy to provide good things to people who want to eat said good things, and you can grab a sandwich and a coffee while you're there as well. The people are nice, the place is clean, the food is great, the cakes are legendary. If you don't like it then something is wrong with you. 5 stars. read more

Lemon bar was great and more reasonably priced than cupcakes (pricing is consistent with most gourmet cupcake shops) and just as filling. Did not realize they had individually priced small cookies (Italian wedding cookies) before the visit. Worth it if you just want a little something. Strawberry cake is the best I've had (my daughter is expecting it for her birthday cake). Especially when it is chilled before serving. Strawberry cupcake is disappointing in comparison. My first time, I got an orange roll and a cup of coffee. That breakfast was good; however, I was left a little disappointed by not having any protein. The second time I came, I had my mind set that I'd get something different. I ordered the breakfast croissant sandwich with egg and bacon (and a cup of coffee). This was the real deal! It was a generous size and very delicious. If you aren't familiar with Edgar's...they are more known as a bakery and cake store. My visit here was a slight disaster. I grabbed some chicken salad from the cooler and went to order something sweet. The girl didn't know what flavors the macarons were. So I ordered a mystery macaron. I got to the register and asked for a coffee. Only to find out that they were WARMING UP OLD, COLD COFFEE IN THE MICROWAVE and serving it to people. Um, what? Then they found a pot with slightly warm coffee and that's what I ended up getting. I asked for non-dairy creamer and they offered me 2% milk. Guess I'm drinking it black.
