Edgar's Bakery is located in the Colonnade off Hwy 280 at 3407 Colonnade Parkway Birmingham, AL 35243 Today I ordered two pound cakes, one strawberry and one marble. I also ordered one slice of strawberry cake. The service was welcoming with a smile and all of my questions were answered. The Ambiance was quiet since I was the only customer in the bakery at 7:00 AM. I have enjoyed eating at this bakery for years and I recommend everything. It was the strawberry cake for me, extremely delicious and mouthwatering.

This was a ok experience but we will not come again. It started with a cashier not very friendly and it really didn't improve. I got a grit bowl where the bell peppers were raw -not cooked and the cheese was not melted . My husband Got a Orange cinnamon roll which had a good flavor and pretty big. He got a monte cristo which sadly was small and the potatoes had very little seasoning. My son got a croissant egg/cheese/sausage he ate most of it so I'm assuming he was ok with it. We got a quiche . The taste was good but the crust was soggy. I also looked at a few things to buy but the prices are way too high! Me and my husband was not impressed!!

Really wanted to like this bakery, the merch at the front and the whimsical window displays were nice, but I did noticed a lot of un-bussed tables while I was here. I only intended to get a snack but they had warm pecan rolls and orange rolls. I went with the orange roll and a latte, decent but maybe I just missed a huge lunch rush and they were still recovering. The staffers were friendly but few and far between, maybe that's why the tables were not addressed. There was someone placing a cake order as well as the normal line for ordering. I wished there was a trash can that you could bus your own table with but I could not locate one. when I left the majority of the tables had plates and things that needed to be picked up. Traffic and the tables are a good sign that this is a decent spot, I must have just come at the wrong time.

Nice place to stop for a treat. Like the proverbial kid in a candy store, it's always fun to stand at the bakery case and find something special. Today we got a couple petit fors and sugar cookies. The cookies were pretty good, and cute, but I'll be honest--these are not my favorites. There are lots of "boutique" cookie places that specialize in just cookies, and have a firmer, denser cookie, and a thinker, more opaque royal icing. This icing was a little more sugary tasting with a more translucent icing. Still cute, and certainly hit the spot that day.

I've used Edgar's for all of my confectionary needs for the last few years. Their strawberry and caramel cakes are unmatched. The strawberry cake is so moist and has the perfect amount of fresh strawberries throughout. I swear it's as if they have a kitchen full of grandma's trapped in the kitchen baking all day, lol. And let's not even talk abut their loaf cakes. The chocolate and caramel apple loaf cakes will have you committing the sin of gluttony until you have eaten every last crumb. Their lemon cake is sweet, but with the perfect hint of tart lemony goodness. And their petit fours, oh man another chance to commit gluttony. I love getting all of the flavors and sitting done and savoring every last one. Don't judge me, I love sweets I've used several of their locations and service quality of the product never changes. The staff are always kind and cheerful and the cakes are always fresh. The quality of the staff can be the driving force behind repeat customers and I can honestly say that they care about there business and their customers. It's also a treat just to go in, they sale a variety of knock knacks that are sure to peak your interest from coffee cups to aprons. I'm constantly trying to convince myself that I don't need another coffee cup, kitchen towel, apron, or wine glass.

I have come to this Edgar's location a few times. I am not sure I have anything really extensive at any Edgar's location. But I will say that they all seem to be extremely clean, have friendly service and all smell like amazing baked goods when you walk in. I usually have their coffee when I go in. Even their pour over coffee is really good. I have come here for meetings and that is usually the only thing I get since I'm not a huge sweets person. All of that said, I have had the strawberry cake on numerous occasions at various functions. And I dare you to find a better strawberry cake anywhere else. No, literally, I dare you to tell me one just so I can eat it!! It is so good. I have zero complaints about Edgars in my experiences. And I love that cake! So I can't figure out any reason to give anything less than five stars.

Mold and whatever else that might be growing. Again unopened and two days after purchase.

This place is my type of vibe!…read more Trattoria ZaZa has been on my list of places to stop at for several years. Parking often deters me but after attending the Italian Festival earlier that day, we had a craving for pizza. I ordered the combo that includes 2 slices of the day with salad. Since I wasn't overly hungry, I offered him one of my slices and he added another slice to the order. We paid and were given a number to place on our selected table. Jazzy music played in the background while we waited on our order to be brought to the table. The natural lighting, while beautiful, made it a little warm in the building. One of the waitresses propped the door open that leads to the restrooms (which are in the hallway near the elevators) in order for cooler air to make its way in. That wasn't a deal breaker, but do be aware of that on warmer days. Our food came out after a short wait. I kept my 3 cheese slice, and gave him the pepperoni one. The cheeses were very rich and the salad, while simple without the frills, was perfectly sized and drizzled with a balsamic vinaigrette that was just the right amount. While I enjoyed my meal very much and the ambiance, he wasn't overly impressed with his. He didn't want the fresh herbs on his slices and knocked all of them off, lol. He's a simple guy with simple taste. This is definitely a place I will be revisiting with one of my girlfriends and not him next time as he didn't appreciate what ZaZA had to offer. Everyone we encountered was helpful and courteous. Our food, including drinks, was around $28, which was not bad for a cute, eclectic spot downtown. If you haven't been, make sure to try them out soon. Just don't wait as long as I did to visit!

Where to start? Went on a weekend, place was packed. The…read moreBad: 1. SLOW. Waited in a line inside of 4 people in front of me. There was someone at the podium at the end who i thought was a server. Was not. After a 15 minute wait (why did it take that long?), we got to the podium person. And found out they were there to take our order, not seat us. Can only assume the 15 min delay was because people were trying to figure out what to order. No signage anywhere saying, please have what you want ready while you wait in line. 2. No menus, anywhere. Yes they can be printed and people in line could take one and figure out what they want. Yes, the menu could be put on the wall behind the server in large lettering. But no, they make you scan a QR code on the wall and view the menu on your phone, so that's inconvenient and a bit obtuse. 3. When we finally place an order for pizza, was told that, "they dont serve pizzas on the weekend, but we could order their "brunch pizzas", instead. Which on the counter, was small anemic cut slices of thick bready pizzas on the cutting board/table. Those each were $8.50 according to the menu. Figure the math of 2 small slices of pizza per person for 2 people vs just ordering a large pizza. But they don't serve pizza during brunch- Trattoria literally has the word "Pizza" in their last name- twice actually- yet you have to order a nearly $9 slice of pizza sitting out on a table for who knows how long, and of the flavor of their choice, not yours. It was flat out insulting to go to a pizza based establishment and be told they won't serve whole pizzas. We left and went to Uptown to a pizzaria there, and had a really good whole pizza, salad, dessert, and drinks, and all for half the price then if we had gone to Trattoria. Wanted to give this place a chance for years, but did not work out the way i had expected it to.

But I'm sorry the food? (In my case shrimp and grits) was NOT GOOD. And don't get me wrong, it wasn't a horrible flavor, but the flavors it did have were terrible. First the grits are not smooth at all. Like they aren't super course but they definitely could have been cooked down more. And they had little seasoning. And that's being generous. Then the "creole" sauce on top? Can we ask the audience what they consider creole? Because that was just pure tomato sauce. Like straight out a can, had to be. No way someone cooked that sauce from scratch or even with creole seasonings or typical additives I'm sorry I just refuse to believe it. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST... 5 shrimp??? You can't be serious. I could understand 5 shrimp if they're the huge jumbo ones but these are smedium at best. Like I feel BAMBOOZLED because no way I paid 24$ for 5 shrimp and maybe 1.5 cups of grits. But imma be honest I'm not surprised the food wasn't that good. Any place that puts on the bottom "we can't refund for food you don't like" that should tell you everything you need to know.
