I was excited to try Eden and went for my birthday dinner. I was really disappointed from the get go. Our table wasn't ready, so the hostess suggested we get a drink at the bar. We tried to, but it took 15 minutes for someone to even acknowledge us and there was only one other couple sitting at the bar and three people behind the bar. Sure it could be busy with the rest of the restaurant, but at least acknowledge us...they were attentive to the other couple. When we finally ordered, we were again waiting a long time to get drinks. Another couple sat down after we ordered our drinks, got attention right away, ordered the exact same drinks we did and they got their drinks before us! I would hope that there wasn't any bias going on here, but it seemed odd given that we were the only people of color in the restaurant and everyone else was getting attention. When we finally got seated, our waiter was not very friendly and was dismissive of our questions. Also, we just weren't very impressed with the food. I don't know if it's because we ordered vegetarian items? The only redeeming quality was who I assumed was the manager (shaved head with a beard) who came around towards the end and was super pleasant and friendly. Tried out Eden for restaurant week and left very disappointed and a little confused. We had reservations and were seated right away but after ~10 minutes of sitting at our table nobody approached us to take our drink order or let us know a server was coming. Eventually the hostess realized, came over and apologized, and we ordered drinks. They ended up being out of one of the drinks we wanted which was a bummer. Weird start to the evening. The food was alright; I had the 3-course offering and got the brussel sprouts, bass, and brownie. The sprouts were good, but the bass was subpar. Not served very warm and the roasted squash was gummy. But the brownie was really the strange part of the meal in my opinion. Personal preference, but there was a lot going on and little payoff, as well as similar issues with the texture and heat. The best part of the meal was the Japanese milk bread - definitely recommend. The service was consistently slow throughout the meal and we ended up being there for 2+ hours and well past closing time (not by our own conviction). Overall, I was disappointed because I can see here how well Eden does and how much people adore it, so I'm a bit bummed my experience was not like that. read more

Had dinner here this past weekend and everything was perfect from start to finish! We sat at the chef's table and was greeted by Bill, who very charismatic and energetic. He walked us through the menu and was very attentive. Even though the chef's counter menu sounded tempting, we ended up getting a few different dishes instead. We ordered the bread, asparagus, ahi tuna crudo, baby beets salad, pork tagliatelle, and the ricotta herbed gnocchi. The presentation of the food was spot on and the taste was equally pleasing. While we were waiting for our Uber we decided to take a look at the green house from the outside and chef Quinn came out and invited us in to see all the herbs and vegetables that they grow. He told us that him and his father had planted the garden themselves. Absolutely love that the have an onsite urban garden and the concept of their clean & fresh cooking. 5 stars for service! The host, the waitress, the servers, and the manager checked on us to make sure my friend and I were doing well! I felt like we were seen and take care of. They were so nice and polite. They would even have a conversation with us! The restaurant is spacious and the decor is modern, clean, and chic. The ambience was more on the romantic side so it would be a good place to have a date night! The bar area is pretty with the hanging lamps. The place had dim lighting in the evening and the noise level was medium, but can get a little loud when it's full. We ordered the housemade daily bread and it was so good. It's served warm and it had some seeds in it. The pumpkin seed spread was so good. The farro risotto was tasty and it had a buttery and creamy taste with veggies. Wood fired hangar steak was so tender and chewy. The sauces were so yummy. The dessert had so much flavor in each bite. My favorite was the banana macadamia nut tart. I would say their menu is just createive enough to come back more when I am in that part of town. Went to the new location! There is a great patio space if you're able to get there while the weather is still nice but the inside is beautiful as well! Great variety on the menu so my group decided to order several dishes and share. The appetizers took a long time to come out so service started a little slow. Our waitress apologized but not sure what the hold up was. The cocktails we ordered were so unique and lots of flavor! We finally tried Eden and it did not disappoint!! They were able to squeeze us in on a Saturday night along with our toddler. The service was great. Drinks were all unique and really good. Espresso martini was delicious. We tried the carrots and sweet potatoes. Both so unique and so so good. They had a special hamachi collar that was just okay- it didn't have enough sauce/flavor on it. The tartar was a must- so good. And the star of the show was definitely the gnocchi dish. Omg it was perfection. And last but not least the banana brownie was the perfect end to the dinner. Definitely a must try spot. And for being such a nice spot for dinner they were so welcoming with a toddler and had a great kids menu. She certainly loved her pasta dish too. Came for Valentine's Day and ordered the prix fixe menu with drink pairings. Everything was just OK. We weren't blown away by anything and for $400 for 2 people, it was disappointing. Starter, Sunchoke & Truffle Pearls - the presentation looked better than the taste and it was a very small portion. First course, Citrus & Chicories Salad - the first few bites were tart and overpowering. It got better towards the end but average at best. Second course, Lobster Agnolotti - this was the best course of the night but there were only 3 very small pieces of lobster so that was a bit disappointing Third course, Ribeye - the Ribeye was good, not great. The potato purée and creamed spinach were excellent. Dessert - I did not like either dessert option. Drink pairings - all were great except for the dessert wine. The service was excellent outside of a manger running our card incorrectly. He said the charge will take a few days to reverse, not a big deal but added to the overall experience. My wife and I just finished Eden's Valentine's Day Tasting Menu and it was so good I was compelled to write this review before we even cleaned up! This was the best food we've had in recent memory. Every item, from the bread and butter, to the garden herbs, was precisely prepared and labeled with care. Everything was incredibly fresh and packed with bright bold, flavors. And to boot, this was significantly more affordable than other Valentine's Day tasting menus we considered despite using premium ingredients like short rib and lobster! We had: - Roasted baby beets with pomegranate, blood orange, avocado, peppery greens and puffed grains (a bright, refreshing start to the meal) - Bread with olive oil and some of the best butter ever - Lobster agnolotti with pancetta, tomato, lemon and garden herbs (the agnolotti were pleasantly moist despite this being takeout) - Braised short rib with polenta, wild mushroom and preserved lemon gremolata (the gremolata was a flavor explosion and worked well with the deep flavor of the short rib) - Chocolate Torte with passionfruit, citrus and basil (the torte is dense and rich and the passionfruit really helps cut the richness and the basil works!) Went here for an early dinner a few months ago, we were the first customers of the evening. The service was way too attentive, especially since we were the only ones in the restaurant. I felt rushed, our server was literally standing over my shoulder, it was creepy. The house made bread came with an herb butter that was really good, just wish that there was more of it. Tried the Umami Donuts as this is one of their signature dishes, but I was not impressed with them. In fact, I found that they were pretty tasteless., even with the sauce, of which there was definitely not enough. I thought that the lamb and beef meatballs were excellent and I absolutely loved the grilled baby octopus. The seafood stew was good, but there was very little of it, and it was too thin for my taste. For dessert we had the Strawberry Shortcake which was very unique and flavorful. The walls are white washed with exposed bricks and it looks like this was a converted Factory. The tables were also more industrial, made out of stainless steel. read more

I finally made it Eden today, for brunch. LOVED IT! Zero complaints. Beautiful space, high end feeling, yet casual and not stuffy, and in an unassuming tucked away part of Avondale. QUIET, with sound-absorbing panels in the ceiling (not an exciting detail, I know...but I noticed and loved the effect!) and music NOT-blasting (thank you). Professional staff and good service. EXCELLENT cocktails (we had a Bees Knees and a Greenhouse). FOOD was fantastic. Per their website, their philosophy is fresh, simple, clean, and local, and it comes through in the food. Reasonably priced and portioned. Everything at Eden including the food is pretty to look at too! Brunch at Eden made me happy, and made my day, so thank you Eden! WICKED GARDEN Though the dishes weren't absolute paradise, this upscale restaurant on the Near West Side has some great things going for them. In searching for a place during Valentine's week, I came across Eden. A simple enough name for a business with excellent street cred, helmed by Jodi Fyfe & chef Devon Quinn. It's great to see another husband/wife culinary duo, just like Beverly Kim & Johnny Clark of Avondale's Parachute! After making a reservation through OpenTable, my girl and I were seated shortly after we arrived at 7:30pm on Friday 2/16/18. The ambiance inside Eden is positively charming, very chic. A brief word on how sustainable these guys are: They've got an on-premises greenhouse where they cultivate their own produce; the staff takes a lot of pride in making virtually everything fresh by themselves. You can see what's currently being grown on their website: https://edeninchicago.com/welcome/ Our waiter introduced himself and we promptly ordered a pair of craft cocktails: the "elevenses" for me (gin infused w/earl grey tea, egg white) and the "fernetflix & chill" for her (rum, fernet, vanilla). Each were $14 and had some lovely nuances. Later on I got their signature "Eden" cocktail which was fashioned with pimm's, cynar (a bitter liquor), ginger beer, and mint. It too was $14 and CRAZY strong, though I think the flavor of the cynar was too harsh for my liking. There's no complimentary fancy crackers here (or any sort of starter), and that hurts them......especially when places like Sepia and the shuttered GreenRiver had terrific free bread service. Eden's homemade artisanal bread ($5) comes with olive oil + cultured butter they make themselves. As for our dinner........ + umami doughnuts ($8). Essentially savory beignets, they were a quartet of delicious morsels filled with pork confit and black cherry. Served alongside warm raclette (a.k.a. melted cheese), they were the standout item amid an otherwise humdrum meal. [ 5 / 5 ] + brussel sprouts ($10). They were lightly charred and dressed with a delicate apple cider vinaigrette, topped with julienned green apple and slivered almonds. We both enjoyed the intermingled textures, temperatures, and flavors. [ 4 / 5 ] + ahi tuna crudo ($19). This was Nichole C's choice and while I got a chance to sample a bit, I was far more impressed with the presentation than the taste. It came with cashew milk and charred avocado. A smoked grape pureé added vibrant dots of purple color to the plating. [ 4 / 5 ] + smoked bone marrow ($24). A formidable pair of beef bones were accompanied by radish and assorted tart fruits. I liked the freshly picked dill that came with this one, but for flavor and value, I found the bone marrow at Dusek's to be far better. [ 4 / 5 ] + chestnut tortellini ($19). Perhaps I mis-steered my girlfriend headfirst into this one, but neither of us found it noteworthy. A fairly simple pasta dish with buckwheat, lentils, and dried celery root. If this dish were a color, it would have been beige. [ 2 / 5 ] + crispy chicken ballotine ($28). My entreé wasn't much better than hers, as I found the gnocchi-stuffed chicken thigh to be underwhelming. The eggplant and horseradish got lost in the dish and I couldn't detect them. However, I did appreciate the use of black garlic. [ 3 / 5 ] Dessert is arguably the most important part of the meal (after all, it's the last thing you eat before leaving). I have to say, I expected a LOT more from pastry chef Stefano Tulipano than the chocolate-centric menu we were presented. Our choices were chocolate cake, ice cream, donuts (again??), and seasonal sorbet. No custard or high-end meringue, nothing adventurous like the stuff at The Aviary or The Purple Pig, though from the looks of things the dessert menu isn't normally this monochromatic. We got the black chocolate ($12) which was a tasty, if unimaginative, cake roll similar to a Hostess ho-ho. The charcoal gelato that came with it was great, and the custom sauce painting -- my special request -- was a nice touch. [ 4 / 5 ] Bread = 4 Circuses = 4.5 * TL;DR * Truthfully, I enjoyed Eden. Great service, delightful atmosphere, food fell somewhat short of the mark. Craft cocktails were similar to those I had at The Violet Hour (Wicker Park) in both cost and composition. Food wise, I had a better experience at 'B' Restaurant (Oak Brook) with their hive-to-plate initiatives. I agree with Chicago Tribune food critic Phil Vettel's assessment of this place: it's a very good restaurant, the dishes more evolutionary than revolutionary. Sadly, we visited on a day when the choices on the dessert menu outright sucked (they've got a green tea panna cotta now, WTF). When all's said and done, I would nevertheless recommend Eden to friends/family/coworkers. my husband and i had reservations for dinner on a wednesday night. it wasn't too busy and therefore not too loud inside - but could see how the acoustics would be bad if it was packed. parking across the street was easy. our server was friendly, funny, and attentive. the meal was well paced and relaxed but also maybe not the place to go if you're in a rush. we had... - the bread: amazing! both the sourdough and asiago were warm and tasty.. and the butter.... yes yes yes - berry salad: much better and larger than expected. so fresh! - side of asparagus: tasty but not as unique as the other offerings we had - tagliatelle: my husband was wowed by the sauce and said it was the best pork tagliatelle he's ever had (!) - strawberry shortcake and rhubarb: deconstructed presentation which i'm always disappointed with. good overall but not our favorite flavors. - cookie plate: the surprise hit of the night. adorable and perhaps some of the best cookies we ever had - seriously. our favorites were the macadamia apricot (omg) and coconut. we really appreciated the friendly service and attention to seasonal flavors. we can't wait til they release their summer menu. we'll definitely be back! read more

This place May be my new favorite restaurant in Chicago. The food here is exquisite- we got the burrata ( to die for) the ricotta gnochi to share. The flavors were surprising and delicious and the presentation was amazing too. I also got the hamachi collar as a maina never had hamachi taste like this though it was a bit Messy to eat. Love, love, love. From the lovely mural painted outside, to their herb and produce garden in the parking lot (grow house); from their pristine interior dining area to their grand open kitchen, Eden is flawless. It's an urban paradise. Located on W Lake Street, it's slightly further out from the Loop so street parking was easy to find on a Sunday morning. I came here with 3 other friends and we sat at a square table with a full brunch spread. I had a Bloody Mary (served in a mason jar with a celery stalk garnish) and the Burger of Eden that came with plenty of fries to share. I sipped on my friend's peach bellini and also eyed the frosés in tall stem glasses that the servers brought to other tables. Their brunch-wich of the day was a deep-fried Monte Cristo sandwich. It came with a house-made fruit jam and the dish was a blend of sweet and savory. It was verrry rich and satisfying and we had a huge leftover portion to take home with us. When you walk in the ambiance was bright, clean, with neutral gray, black, and white, with splashes of the green (succulents at every table as the centerpiece) and warm wood tones. Dining here was such a great experience. No detail (food, drinks, decor) went overlooked. Before we left, we strolled through the grow house, wandering and admiring the herbs and produce used in our dishes: urban farm to table. Eden offers innovative and delicious New American fare. Had a sensational dinner at Eden last night, highly recommend! All three of us dining loved the appetizers, salads, entrees, desserts and the inventive cocktails. Service was excellent, the space is stunning, but the food was truly awesome, everything was so fresh, very well balanced menu and cooked to perfection. I live very close and can't wait to return and try brunch/lunch, and will definitely be back for dinner. Very pleased to have found my new favorite spot to bring friends and family, but me and the mister will be back soon to try the other salads and mains in the meantime.
