Some of the best German and Hungarian food outside of Germany and Hungary. Everyone at the table had something different so we were able to taste sausage, schnitzel, ham shank and sauerbraten. Loved the red cabbage. Staff was friendly and attentive. Nice choice of German beers on tap. Overall experience was excellent. We will be back again. read more

Great atmosphere and food. Close, close to German food. You can get great German beer there, try for a light drink a mix of beer and lemonade. Exactly how they serve it in Germany! Once the heat goes down go to their beer garden , it's just like being in a Bavarian beer garden. What can I say, home away from home! read more

The back dining room gets incredibly hot it was during dinner. I asked for a cup of water twice to different people and nothing so I ended up getting up and getting it at the bar myself. At the bar I put my elbows down and got them all sticky from the bar. The pig Fritz walks around outside and that was pretty cute. The food isnt anything to write about- I got the chicken with some noodles and a sides of shaved cucumbers. I got a Pilsner that was very tasty. The large pretzel and cheese was good as well as those cheese triangles and cranberry sauce. I would go back- and just make sure I sit outside so I don't overheat next time. read more

This place is awesome. Been there twice now and always enjoyed the beer, jagerscnitzel, pretzels and entertainment. Can't wait to go back.

BAD EXPERIENCE---in fact the worst dining experience ever for me. Extremely slow service (waited 1 1/2 hours for mediocre, overpriced food). Our server appeared overwhelmed and could not handle our table in an expeditious manner. There is a disconnect between the kitchen and the servers' orders. The restaurant has dirty restrooms and dirty restrooms = a dirty kitchen, in my opinion. Would never return to this place, as it is a dump. I gave it a one-star rating because the accordion player was good. Terrible service and the restaurant was out of certain beers advertised on their website. The place is not visually appealing. I will reiterate that this is a dirty, filthy restaurant. If this establishment doesn't get their act together soon, I'm sure someone will get food poisoning. Edit: With so many wonderful restaurants in the Valley, I have no idea why anyone would dine at Edelweiss. Zero customer service! Great customer service is what keeps customers coming back even if they have had a bad experience. But would not return to this place. read more

Great service and atmosphere, but food is not very good. The wurst taste like something you get at the grocery store and then over cooked. The sauerbraten is terrible. Not even close to authentic German . Was more like a piece of meat with a thick bbq sauce on top. Beer was cold though. read more

SERVICE: Sucked! (1 star) FOOD/BEER: Delicious! (5 stars) I sure hope Edelweiss can get their staffing issues resolved, because the food and beer is delicious! We had a party of 12 (made a reservation weeks in advance). When the first people arrived, they were put at a table for 6 and told we could just add more chairs. Uhm, NO. So they were moved to an empty table for 12 nearby. Once everyone arrived and we were all seated, it took over 30 minutes for anyone to take our drink orders. Another 15-20 minutes to get our drinks and appetizers. We ordered our meals when we received our drinks. It was 30-40 minutes before any food came out, and then a couple meals came out early, and we were told the remaining orders would be out in another 20 minutes. HUH?? Our waiter told us: (1) they were short staffed (not everyone showed up); (2) a crucial staffer (between the kitchen and the restaurant?) had just walked out; and (3) the kitchen staff only spoke Hungarian, and the restaurant staff only spoke English. We were there at least 3 hours. The delays didn't bother us much, because we were there to socialize, and our waiter kept up with our drink orders. And when everyone finally got their food, it was delicious (even though they had run out of several items). Sadly, a friend from Germany who I had recommended the food to went last night and walked out after 30 minutes of no service. read more

So neat to have this here in phx! Felt like I was back in Germany. Good food, good music, great service!

Been here a few times and wanted SO badly to like it but the service has been consistently horrible. They are either severely understaffed or the staff is just extremely apathetic because it seems to be a common complaint. On my final visit to Edelweiss I sampled the food and it was pretty terrible. Cold, over salted but under flavored. My German grandmother would be appalled by the cooking here. Only redeeming quality is the patio space - please hire more staff and get this place up to par! read more

I was looking for a German restaurant which could match Murphy's Haus in Glendale for a Sunday dinner. I was told about this one and was pleasantly surprised by a fine dining experience. The food was better than Murphy's Haus and the service was great. For dinner we each had a different main course and everyone was surprised by the quality of the food. Deserts were great, I had the sour cherry soup and it was just like I remembered having it the Bavarian region. We left saying it was worth the distance we had to travel. read more

Love this place! The food and the bier are great and the service is always fantastic!! Had Sean as our waiter again and he always treats us great. It's a relaxed and welcoming place and he adds to the fun. It has become one of my go to places to bring friends or family when they are in town. Ask for Sean he's the best. read more

We went there for my son's birthday he's from Germany and his wife is from there as well. Both said it was much better than the Murphy's place across town in Glendale. I had to beef Rouladen was good and also the Red cabbage was Delicious read more

Warning, if you want good service and good German food pass this restaurant! My wife and I wanted some good German food for lunch. What a mistake. Walked in no greater, so we grabbed a table. 45 minutes later a server finally came over, he was complaining about all the seniors in there and how slow they are. Then we finally got our drinks and gave him our order, still whining about the seniors. 45 minutes later our food finally came. The Brats were over done and the sides barely warm. Said something to server, and he said he was alone and the seniors again, slow. Got the check and left O TIP! When I checked my card bill, he added $8 to the bill after we left! Next day I called and Spock to the GM. He said he will talk to the server and credit the whole bill. Next time I checked he only credited the$8! Very sad and you should avoid this place! Fyi, I am a retired Executive Chef. read more

This place is now dead to me. Two nights in a row now we've shown up over an hour before closing to simply grab a beer and the people who met us at the door looked at us completely annoyed, warn us the kitchen is closed and act annoyed because my husband and I don't want to sit at the bar but in the dining room where other people are sitting... To hell with this pisshole. If customers coming to a Beirgarten for beer is too much, close the f#&*=! down! #deadtome read more

Really don't understand the high rating. Worst German food I ever ate. Beer cheese sauce extremely bland. Bavarian pretzels don't taste right. Chicken Schnitzel tasteless and mushroom gravy bland. Service was mediocre at best. Everyone looks as they are not having fun just muddling through. Would rather drive to Mesa for Zur Kate German Restaurant or Bavarian Point Restaurant both are aweome, just like my Oma's ( Grandma ) cooking. read more

Best German pub in town ; great tap and bottle selections ; friendly staff and great atmosphere

Stopped in for dinner at 7:40pm, the parking lot and bar were half full, the dining room was almost empty. We were third in line at the host station and 20 minutes later nobody had even acknowledged our existence. We would have been happy sitting at the half-empty bar drinking beer and eating pretzels, but we're heading to The Collins instead. Bummer. read more

What a great atmosphere with great food. But absolutely inept service and management. Waited for over an hour for an order. No sight of a manager. Given the wrong credit card at the end. I want this place to succeed but there needs to be better service. read more

we stopped by here on a whim after viewing a house nearby, the staff was friendly and inviting and Gregg did a phenomenal job of giving recommendations and making us laugh along the way. even if you're not a beer drinker, you will enjoy yourself. the food was flavorful and the atmosphere does not lack at all! we will definitely be back!! read more

This will be a two visit review. Rather surprising, because the first visit (early October 2019) didn't see us enjoying our selections much. We were there during a hopping Oktoberfest party, where most of the celebrants were seated outside. That was good! We sat inside and each of the 6 of us ordered something different. The sauerbraten was a complete disappointment, as was the beef roulade, well as was everything but the schnitzel, and the ham shank with sauerkraut. We didn't like the spaetzle at all, either. However, the schnitzel was so good we returned the next day for an early dinner (just two of us) and ordered one of the chicken and one of the pork schnitzels. We asked for a side of sauerkraut, as it was not included with these particular menu selections. We also asked for the sauces on the side. Both were EXCELLENT. We liked the spaetzle better with some of the sauce (intended for the schnitzles) and liked the chicken schnitzel sauce better with the jaegerschnitzel than the chicken. All in all, if you are looking for perfect schnitzel, and delicious 'kraut, this is your place. Oh, give the sour cherry soup (dessert) a miss. Bleuch. read more

As it is about a block from where I live, I've been there 2 or 3 times with some large groups. The patio is a great place to relax and socialize. Food is good with the exception of the Pogi, it's just odd. Two of my friends have ordered it and both said the same thing. HUGE selection of German and Hungarian beers that really hit the spot. read more

I wish I could give this place MORE stars. I have never been to a more authentic German restaurant anywhere in the United States, let alone Arizona. I went with a group of 6 people and we all had different dishes. 100% agreement that the food is authentic, delicious, and freshly made. We all left with to-go bags because we couldn't eat everything and we all wanted to try more things on the menu. The service is superb. We had Carlos who described every single beer and dish to us and answered all the questions from 3 in the party who had no clue what to order. He knew so much that I thought he had some German background, but he didn't. He truly loved the food and the restaurant and conveyed that to us. We had appetizers, meals and even shared the Bavarian Creme and German Chocolate cakes. The beer selection is phenomenal and we tried many from the on-tap menu. The Biergarten area is lovely and it takes you right to Bavaria here in our Arizona desert. The place is family friendly and we saw so many large groups coming in and hanging out just like one would do in a German Biergarten. I will even do take out from there on nights when I can't go in. Larry on the accordion was a wonderful touch and what we especially liked was that it wasn't so loud that you couldn't talk and hear each other. This is a treasure and I will be back, recommend to friends, and wish them great success. Everyone in my group enjoyed the restaurant and we were already making plans to return. read more

Edelweiss Biergarten - German Near Me - Phoenix, Arizona

Went on a Sunday afternoon: 1. Food was excellent (except for the side cucumber salad which had no taste). We all had a "snitzel" and thought they were delicious. Portions were large! 2. Service was slow. Glad we had no place to be. Would hate to see it on a busy Friday night! 3. Called ahead of time to see if they had a kids menu and was assured they had kid-size portions. Got to the restaurant and the waitress looked at me like I had two heads. No kids menu or kids sized portion...had to settle for a side dish with bacon bits. Needless to say, my two year old ate off of our plates. I definitely would go back because the food tasted great. But don't go in a hurry and I wouldn't recommend taking young kids! read more

3 stars for effort of authentic attempt at German food but really for the nice German beers on tap. Food is ehhhh and the service pretty questionable. I'd return for a beer and pretzel with cheese. read more

Unfortunately, I have to give a bad review for my meal last night. I have been here numerous times, and while it is never great, it is always good enough for when I am craving this type of food. Last night was the exception. I tried the smoked, grilled pork chops. They were completely dried out and tough. The German fried potatoes that came with them, were clearly reheated, and soggy and cold and sitting in the plate over the wet red cabbage, so getting even wetter as they sat. They really need to serve these in a separate plate. They were kind enough to remake them for me tho, so that was nice. The speatzle was delicious, but my biggest problem was the cucumber salad. I have never had it with peels before, and IMHO, it was awful. The peels are bitter and tough, and take away from those nice, thinly sliced, pillowy cucumbers that I have grown up with in an authentic Hungarian cucumber salad. On a happier note, our server was delightful. Oh yes, the Budapest salad was very good as well. read more

Edelweiss Biergarten - German Near Me - Phoenix, Arizona

Since I was born in Germany I was very excited to find a German restaurant in my neighborhood. The restaurant has good happy vibes and the service was excellent. The beer list is very impressive and the food menu has an array of dishes to choose from. I was disappointed in my meal selection though. The meat was dry and the Spätzle were just ok. We'll definitely be back again because overall it was a good experience. read more

We had a wonderful meal in the Bier Garten (with the wondering pig)! Excellent selection of German beer, most on draft. Each of the four of us sampled an item from the four different categories (pages) of German dishes. All were great. We will be coming back to try other meals soon! read more

Although food wise far from German it has friendly service. Only had lunch there. Probably much better as a beer joint in the evening. Not what I would have expected from Hungarian either. read more

Check this place out. Lived in Germany in my youth and authentic. Jackie great service and polite too.

I am impressed! I live in Moon Valley, and being of German descent, love my German food. Up to this point, I had to travel all the way to Mesa to get any decent German food. Thankfully, as long as this place is open, the trips to Mesa have come to a screeching halt. The food was amazing. The Red Cabbage was made just the way I love and the Saurkraut has a nice nip to it. I ate the Knackwurst mit Red Cabbage, Saurkraut and Fried potatos. Highly recommended. The price is about $15 a head, so not too pricey. Next time I plan on having the Jägerschnitzel, which by the looks of it, should be a great choice as well. To top it all of , they had a great polka entertainer who really gets into his performance and gets everyone engaged. I hear that he performs about 5 to 6 nights a week. It's by far the best German restaurant in America I've been to, and I've been to a LOT. Ausgezeichnet!! read more

We took a group of friends to this restaurant- 10 in all- over the age of 70. We Were shown to an attached bench picnic table. We asked the waiter for regular table and chairs. Their back room had many already set up. We were told that on Sunday a group rented that room. When I asked for 2 tables and 10 chairs to moved out into the room we were in, I was told no. That evening, 4 of the tables were used. Many set vacant. We were most uncomfortable. When we were getting ready to leave, getting out of the picnic tables caused some physical issues. We will never take any other friends to this restaurant, nor will we recommend it. They had good food but HORRIBLE service. For a new business trying to make a name for themselves, they are not going to achieve success. read more

Brought my parents in for Father's Day last Sunday. Outstanding food, fantastic beer selection (even found a new favorite beer!!!), service is great and everyone is attentive and pleasant. Portions are beyond generous and the quality is top notch. We started with an appetizer, Opa's Favorite. It's two wedges of lightly breaded German Gouda with a side of Haus special cranberry sauce and OH, MAN was it good! Then for our entrees, I had the Jägerschnitzel which was cooked and breaded perfectly, tender but with a bite, and the bacon-mushroom sauce on top was so savory and good. The pommes frites (french fries) were unexpectedly tasty, too! Dad's Wienerschnitzel was equally as good and Mom got the Knockwurst, which we all had a few bites of (she's a little lady and there's no way she could finish it haha). We were offered desserts and the dessert menu looks wonderful but we just could not make room for it! Maybe next time we'll skip the appetizer so we can try one or two of them, like the Chocolate Hazelnut Cookie Roll or the Sour Cherry Soup. Yum!!! GO TO EDELWEISS! You won't be disappointed and you WILL be back! read more

For the third time in less than a month, we have been shut down for food that we had looked so forward to enjoying. The hours posted are not accurate as we have arrived long before closing time posted (by 2 hours), only to have the doors locked on one occasion. The next time we called and were told that the floors were being redone and they were closing early. Tonight was the final straw, as we called ahead of time, were told that the kitchen was still open, and when we arrived ten minutes later as mentioned, were told the kitchen was closed, as they had a large party that ate all they had. Sorry, three strikes and you're done for me. Very disappointed and will never return. For a new business trying to establish new clients that appreciate German food, shame on you. read more

This place is great. They have a great selection of German beers! It's a great place to come with friends to grab a couple of beers and eat traditional german eats. Although the service was a little bad when I went, it had to do to the fact that it was really busy. Given that it is busy is always a good sign. They also have a guy who plays accordion that sings both German and English songs. Granted it can be pretty loud and can get pretty packed, it is a great place to go to nonetheless. The only downside is that when it is packed, there isn't a lot of parking, and there isn't really an option for street parking, unless you drive down a block or so and park in the little neighborhood they have there. Overall it is worth checking out. read more
