Worst Brunch I've Ever Had!! We were at the Pittsburgh EM's for Mother's Day Brunch and I left feeling completely embarrassed. Without a doubt, the worst brunch I've ever had in my life....and it cost me $250 for just two people. The good news is that the food station guys did a good job....omlettes, meat carving, and Bananas Foster for dessert. But that's where the good news ends. The buffet was horrendous. Scrambled eggs and sausages were cold. French toast was burnt on the outside and not fully cooked on the inside. Other than the Bananas Foster, dessert consisted of some fresh berries and 3-4 mini cake slices. That was it. I've had better (much better) at Bob Evans or Denny's. Advertised at $79 per person, a couple of cocktails, tax and tip = $246.00. I had to apologize to my wife, who was being treated to brunch for Mother's Day, for such a disappointing meal. I should mention that recently, we ate a fabulous dinner at Commander's Palace in New Orleans for the same cost and loved every minute of it. So it's not like we don't spend money in restaurants or know a good one from a bad one when we see it. Oh, and I didn't even mention the attire on other guests. Even though Eddie Merlot's has a page on their website dedicated to proper attire, they don't enforce it. I saw workboots soiled with mud, athletic gear, tennis shoes, and more....and that's not the first time I've had that experience at EM's. For a restaurant brand that's built on being upscale fine dining, EM's falls way short of its promise. Fabulous meal. Our server, Edward Kapron, gave fabulous service. This was our first time so we started with the Filet Mignon Pot Stickers. We got the special that was a Tomahawk Wagu steak and two lobster tails; this included a bottle of wine. Everything was delicious. The service was impeccable. We came for my 60th birthday. Our table was decorated for that occasion and they, also, brought me a piece of cake. It was a pricey meal but it was worth it. Stopped by for a pre-show 5:30 reservation and enjoyed a lovely meal with great service. Our server, Andre, was phenomenal and took very good care of us. They offered my wife a Birthday toast which she passed on to try their French 75 cocktail and some white wine with dinner. We started with the crab cakes which were really good and filled with crab. We each had fish for dinner - a grilled salmon and the sea bass over julienned veg. They were both very good. To finish, they treated us to a chocolate cake with raspberries. The only things I would really like to recommend to management are adding a few true mocktails with bonafide nonalcoholic spirts for those who aren't drinking alcohol and, for those who do drink, adding a few true after dinner options like Amaro, Port, and similar. Come hungry and leave impressed! We came to celebrate a birthday and had an excellent meal here. The restaurant is very classy and great for dinner dates and company dinners. There is a garage attached to the building so it was very convenient. I ordered a negroni and shared a nice tomahawk steak with lobster tails and tempura green beans as a side dish. It was definitely enough for 3 of us ladies. The the steak we ordered was a medium but it was a little more medium rare but still very tasty. All of the sauces that it came with were quite excellent. The only thing we weren't too impressed with was the tempura green beans. Overall a very nice meal in a very calm and classy restaurant. I took my elderly mother to Eddie Merlot's Pittsburgh for Mother's Day. Due to her poor health, this would likely be her last Mother's Day dinner outing (hoping not so, but looks likely). What she really wanted was a good, old fashioned steakhouse quality prime steak, but with relaxing elegant atmosphere. All set to order a Filet and a Prime bone-in Ribeye. The waiter suggested we order something REALLY special: a =Wagyu= bone-in ribeye and 2 lobster tails for 2, for a price slightly less than our intended order, sliced table-side. He said it was on the menu, but neither we nor he could find it(??). We talked it over. Wagyu, with 2 lobster tails, for a, well, relatively good price?? I was skeptical ("specials") and could hear Anthony Bourdain screaming, but my mother never had Wagyu, this may be the last Mother's Day out, so we went for it, and let ourselves feel excited. Should have trusted my instincts. It arrived table-side ALREADY SLICED (in the kitchen?..at the just-ended buffet?), bone already to the side looking stone cold. No sizzle, no glistening juices or fat =anywhere=, no steam, no slicing. The girl just placed a few slices, and tossed the super TINY baby lobster tails on our plates, and then whisked the bone and platter away (for the next "special" presentation??..one reusable bone for all, we "joked"). I was hoping that the Wagyu steak would make it all OK; that's what we REALLY wanted and this was WAGYU!!!(?) ...Not sure it even WAS Wagyu. Ordered it Medium, expecting the "Medium" most upscale steakhouses deliver (toward MedRare), but old-school Medium would have been fine. It came out like a cinder. Not an exaggeration. Crunchy black hard dry burned steak that tasted like anything burned dry. Brown and dry throughout, with a tiny patch of brownish-pink in the center of two slices. No juices on our plates! No sign of the famous marbling or tenderness. So charred that it was impossible to tell if it actually =WAS= Wagyu (honestly have doubts .. re-grilled buffet slices of ?? steak crossed our minds after much thought - pretty good margin on that steak!). The good parts? Atmosphere was fine, nice city street view with garden, decent cocktails (wish they had Sullivan's cocktail menu from ~2 years ago), and the French Onion Soup, besides having very little of the soup part, was excellent! Oh, and GREAT bread! I do think that this Eddie Merlots COULD be all around very good+, and had we ordered 2 prime steaks (with keepable ribeye bone) as we originally intended, it may have been a great Mother's Day memory. For the longest time thought Eddie Merlot's and Eddie V's were the same spot . Finally got the chance to come here! I had high hopes but it was tooo high lol. It's a nice restaurant! The staff was super friendly and helpful! Our waiter was on top of things and very friendly! He suggested things on the menu and it didn't disappoint! Started off with the filet mignon potstickers and OMG one of the best pot stickers I've ever had! Like filet mignon in it? I was like sign me up! Definitely recommend that! Then got the sweet and spicy shrimp but to my surprise it was literally like the fire cracker shrimp at bone fish grill! I was like wow not what I expected going in but that's nice. I expect something else but I was fine with it as the shrimp were huge! For drinks our waiter suggested the old fashion and it was great! Super smooth and hit the spot. My wife got a guava vodka drink and it was super sweet! If you are a fan of super sweet drinks then only get it otherwise stay clear! For the main course we got the wagyu filet mignon and New York strip with truffle fries. The wagyu filet mignon was on point! So tender! They didn't cook it the way I wanted it but oh well. My wife's New York strip was super salty like too much! It was good steak but wayyyy too much salt. (She wanted well done and got medium. Yes yes she's not a big fan of the pink color in there) The fries were great! Only giving 4 stars cause when we say we want medium we expect it to be cooked to perfection in a restaurant like this and not have to complain about it. One of the best steakhouses in downtown Pittsburgh. It is a pretty crowded space, but I would put this above Del Frisco's and Ruth Chris. To me, Eddie Merlot's is in the same category as Hyde Park and Morton's. I ordered the 16oz. Prime Ribeye, requested medium, and it came out as specified. It had a perfectly warm pink center, but the ends were not overly cooked. There was a lot less fat to it than I expected, which meant I got a lot more meat. I would highly recommend the creamy horseradish for a small upcharge as it paired perfectly. One reason I am giving this a 5-Star rating is because both sides that I had were fantastic. The garlic mashed potatoes were not heavy and every bite that had some of the butter was just incredible. The mac & cheese was another solid offering. Not overly creamy and the bread crumbles gave it a slight crunchy texture. I will say that the side dishes are shareable if you're not very hungry. If you are hungry, you can easily eat an entire side dish. The service was top-notch, exactly what you would expect from a high-end steakhouse. Our server was very well-versed with the menu. We had a separate server for our drinks, and he consistently kept our waters full while inquiring about additional beverages. The staff were great. I was here for lunch with friends. Ordered the Prix Fixe menu. I had the Caesar salad along either Sirloin and broccoli. The salad (including the anchovies) and broccoli were great. The steak not so much. My third bite was 100% thick gristle and I did my best to chew it and not to spit it out in front of my friends. I cut another piece only to have more gristle. I understand marbling and appreciate the flavor fat can give but this was different. Surprisingly bad cut of meat for some reason for a place that prides itself on its meat. Didn't finish the steak and asked for a box for it to go instead of sending it back. Top notch service and fantastic food ! Came here with the hubby Valentine's Day weekend. We initially made a reservation for a table but once we sat at the bar due to being early , we decided to stay put and enjoy dinner right there at the bar. The bartender (can't recall his name but a male , short hair, on Feb 15th), was amazing! Great knowledge on the menu, fluid conversation and very personable. My husband has a couple prickly pear margaritas and I had a couple CARAJILLO CON TEQUILA cocktails. Beautifully put together! I ordered the Beef Carpaccio and Ahi Tuna steak dinner. My husband ordered the crab cakes appetizer and filet mignon with a side of truffle fries . Everything (in photos ) was absolutely delicious and presentation was on point . Our room was spacious but it was hard to pay attention to our speaker because there was a very loud private event taking place next door and the room divider didn't do a great job of muffling the noise. The staff members were friendly. Our apps were pretty good and so was the bread. The Caesar salad was absolutely drenched in dressing which was a bit much for me. The filet mignon itself was good. The mashed potatoes were surprisingly lumpy, the asparagus was only seasoned with butter, and the macaroni and cheese was okay. This place used to be high end and elegant. No more. unacceptable dining experience extremely long wait time between courses. Our wait server was nowhere to be found as I wanted to include some dressing for my steak and potatoes. By the time I received them I was done with the steak after a long wait for dessert. I just said pack it up. We're leaving pictures are shown as it was thrown into a box. The whole time the table next to us included a family with three children with parents in jeans and T-shirts shorts and sweatpants. I thought Eddie's had a dress code. I was appalled to see how this all went downhill. It was an extremely busy night in our wait staff had more tables than they can handle. This was our first visit to Eddie Merlot's on a recommendation from friends to celebrate our anniversary. The restaurants location is great for a city view . Windows surround the restaurant bar area ( I don't know if there are windows in other parts of the restaurant, because we had dinner in the large bar ) We were there during the holiday season so the large downtown Christmas tree was right outside the window to enjoy. Drinks were a mixed bag my wife's bourbon Old-fashioned was great. I had two Tito's vodka martinis both had a weird botanical taste to them. After the first one, I asked our waiter to ask the bartender to make it only with vodka and a little vermouth, but the second martini came back tasting just like the first . I've never had one taste like that before and I didn't enjoy the flavor. Next we ordered a specialty of the restaurant corn chowder soup . It was very good, but loaded with cream, very heavy as an appetizer. We also split six barbecued oysters. I grew up in New York City so believe that I know fresh seafood pretty well . I assume if you ordered oysters raw, they'd be perfect . These were maybe 80% fresh & good but not as good as I would expect from a fine dining restaurant . My wife and I both ordered steaks which were very good and cooked precisely as ordered. Our waiter was very nice and did a great job. It was a bit comical though because he knew that it was our anniversary and made a big deal of " convincing the manager" to give us a complimentary piece of chocolate cake to celebrate . We had not planned on ordering any dessert. The cake was a six out of 10 nothing special . For two people with no dessert no coffee the bill was over $300 . In my opinion, the steaks are better at Morton's or Ruth Chris along with the professional decor and atmosphere . We will go to either of those restaurants instead of Eddie Merlot's in the future. No major issues at all with the restaurant or the service it is just that I believe they're better options downtown at this price level . 3 1/2 stars. I wanted to add that they do validate your parking but again I got a laugh because they don't validate 100% . They add five dollars to your bill for parking which would've been maybe $15 . We went here for my birthday dinner which just so happened to fall on the busiest day of the year..Mother's Day. We had reservations and had a little wait with that but no worries. We grabbed a drink at the bar and waited. When seated, of course it took a second for our waiter to approach us but the only thing that bothered me was that there was no greeting or name mentioned of our server. His first question was still or sparkling water and then asked if we wanted an app or needed more time. We needed more time as this was our first visit. He finally did come over with recommendations of entrees. Again I totally get he was busy. We finally decided on the fish entree and the filet Del Mar. The fish was perfection but the shrimp with my steak dish came out rubbery. It was fixed and was better. The steak was cooked perfectly but lacked some flavor. I would order the fish entree next time. Overall, the service was lackluster but we will give it another shot if we are near another location. read more

Where to start: the 4 oz filet del mare that was ordered med rare came out more like medium and had to really use pressure to cut through it with a heavy duty steak knife, the 16 oz prime rib eye steaks ordered medium rare also came out more like medium to well done and was such a thin cut for being 16 oz had to wonder how much weight there was actually in that steak. Service or more like lack of service was horrible - try about 45 minutes to appetizers after placing our orders and another 60 minutes till the over cooked entrees came out. Dustin was our server. He was so knowledgeable about the menu, specials, and even the city in general. His service was absolutely fantastic, and he offered some advice on things to do while in town. Complementary bread. I was told Henry made bread. It was a Sourdough, very warm and fresh. The bread was dense but also fluffy inside, and a great crisp to the crust. I thought the crust was fantastic, but the inside of the bread tasted a little bit like soap to me. On the other hand, Kyle loved all of it and thought it was delicious. Filet Mignon Potstickers 10/10 Probably one of the best dumplings I've ever had. The filet inside was cooked perfectly, soft and tender. The crispiness of the wonton wrapper was beyond perfect. And the Asian flavored sauce was very tasty and elevated, much better than your typical soy sauce or dumpling sauce. Bison filet 10/10 Bacon Gorgonzola Medium Rare - cooked absolutely perfect. The meat was so soft and tender. It was seasoned just with salt and pepper, but perfectly. The bacon Gorgonzola on top added a bit more saltiness to the bite, but it was not overpowering at all. Although, I didn't taste any bacon, mostly just the cheese. Peppercorn Sauce 5/10 I'm very on the fence about this sauce. It was on its way to becoming like a peppercorn cream sauce, but it was extremely peppery to the point where it was spicy and didn't taste great. It definitely needed some more cream to balance it out. But the consistency was perfect. Wagyu MS 7/8+ ribeye 10/10 Med Rare - cooked perfectly to Kyle, but to my eyes it looked a little under. Seasoning could have been a little bit better, just a touch more salt and pepper than it had. Crab cake 6/10 Lump crab. The crab was fine. Cooked well. I definitely think it would be better with real crab, as anyone probably would. And I would have also liked this better if it was more of a Maryland style, with breading and fried. The Corn relish i think went good with the crab cake. And the Cajun remoulade on top was a really nice flavor with it too. Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes 10/10 Delicious. Whipped and creamy consistency. Plenty of garlic-y butter too! Just added a touch of salt, and these potatoes were amazing! Crème Brûlée 9/10 Delicious traditional vanilla flavor. I think the custard could have been cooked for 30 seconds - a minute less, just to make it a little more of a creamier pudding-like consistency. My waitress was terrible. My first visit. I was staying at Etage across the street. She never brought my drink even after I asked her 3 times. She only brought my salad and bread but others brought the main course. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass $52, a baked potato $14, a chopped salad $14 and a beer that I never got. The Sea Bass was Fishy smelling and the potato was barely warm. The waitress never even asked or came back to my table to ask how my meal was. I still tipped her on my $85 bill but way less than I usually would. I had her box my food up because only the salad and bread was the most edible. I should have complained right there. She never apologized for her very subpar service. I just wanted to leave. This all occurred in the bar dining area. Very disappointed. The sea Bass must have been old for it to be fishy. Here in Pittsburgh for a wedding and wifey wanted a good steakhouse just like the ones we have enjoyed in California. We had valet parking which was a deal of $7, and the parking attendants were fabulous. The food was one of the best we both have had. The Tomahawk special was just $199 and included a bottle of red wine. We took that order with creamy spinach with bacon, lobster Mac and cheese as sides. To top it off a French 75 for me and a solid Lemon Drop for thee wifey. Our server Armindo P., was the best. Not only did he seared our 2 lobsters but made sure we approved of the service and constantly stayed on top of any request we may need. I'm addition we had to meet the chef who prepared the food and I must say I was very surprised. He not only made the food with such flavor, but made sure to thank us for complimenting his cooking. Love the ambiance of the restaurant and the cleanliness. The decor was something I have not seen in any of the premium restaurants i have gone to in California. I even suggested that they really should bring this quality service and restaurant to California. Billed as a premier steakhouse with their pricing and exclusivity, it's obvious they are just living off that prowess and no longer showing any attention to detail. Made reservations for NYE here, with the only availability being at 9:45 - which upon visiting was odd seeing as 60% of the tables were empty. Upon checking in it took 4 people to seat us, each person feeling like they didn't have the "tools" to pick up two menus and lead other humans to a table 20yds away. We were sat and took a look at the menu. Our waitress, late thirties? shorter, with glasses came back in a few minutes. After a glass of wine was ordered, she apparently forgot I existed and didn't even ask what I wanted so I had to reel her back and order an old-fashioned. No asking if we had looked over the menu to order apps etc . Ten minutes went by and the drinks came back with us ordering appetizers. Here's where things started to spiral for me. As a burrata/caprese fan, and frequent orderer, I always like to ask if the caprese or burrata listed on some menus under SALADS is the traditional presentation or actually on greens (it's happened before which is why I ask) - as I'm asking, the waitress cuts me off to big dog me and telling me it's not mozzarella it's burrata - like I'm some stupid child and this is my first dinner out. Weird hill to die on and a condescending attitude to go with it. Like she had something to prove. We ordered that, and a French onion soup to share. Well this COVETED burrata - came out presented like a child who is their first time in the kitchen made it. The tomatoes weren't fresh (pictured), the crostini were just thrown on the plate, it was trash. Sorry. The French onion soup had as much broth in it as the sweat on my back sitting in my coat. Not good - though the flavor was on-point. For the entree, I ordered the special bone-in filet (14oz). I order steaks medium. This was rare. Badly rare. I didn't say anything bc I'm sure our waitress would have talked down to me again on how at real steakhouses medium means rare and 1+1=blue We ended up sharing sides of sweet potato casserole, broccoli, and brussel sprouts. Broccoli was good, the casserole was MOLTEN but very good once it cooled down, and the brussel sprouts weren't cooked long enough and were just slimy. Gross. Passed on dessert and had a coffee. It was very mediocre. For the price I expected better. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday last night. Our server was great. The food was very underwhelming. The lobster bisque had good taste but zero actual crab meat, the description of the soup is not how it was presented at all, and a young kid carried out my soup and almost dumped it on me. It was lukewarm and luckily the way the bowl was shaped stopped the soup from going on me The calamari was so much batter and breading. They need to fix the recipe because I've seen multiple reviews saying this. So disappoined that I didn't listen. There was chunks of breading we were picking up with our forks instead of calamari. Yuck. Picked a ton of the breading off and didn't eat half the appetizer, neither did my boyfriend. I got the filet mignon medium rare but it was cooked completely rare almost blue even. Only had about 2-3 bites. Took it home and will be re cooking it and trying to fix it myself. Table next to me had a woman send her steak back because it was incorrectly cooked. But I didn't want my boyfriend to eat his dinner alone while my steak re cooked He got the Wagyu ribeye and he ate every bite and loved it. He was happy with his steak so that's all that mattered to me as this was his birthday dinner. Lastly, the sides- the brussels sprouts were good but it said brussel sprouts had bacon on it...ours didn't have a single bit of bacon and there was a giant onion peel in the brussels sprouts. Like no attention to detail and almost like the kitchen staff was trying to ruin our meal. Lobster mac & cheese came out cold. My boyfriend sent it back immediately after we asked them to reheat it/throw it in the microwave because one thing I won't tolerate is cold food, need things piping hot. Personally, I would never recommend this place to anybody. I have a food instagram account and I'll go out of my way to tell people to avoid this experience Overall, disappointed with our experience and wouldn't be back. I'm glad my boyfriend enjoyed his ribeye, and our server was great so it wasn't his fault, but everything else fell short. Icing on the cake is this restaurant is located Dowtown and the parking garage is extremely dangerous. When we got back to my car, a homeless person or someone had broken in. I walked out to my trunk opened, the contents of my glove box were all over the front, glove box open, middle console open, just extremely scary. They need to have more security or police downtown. I don't go downtown often and try to uber when I do. This was an extremely upsetting situation and it's a shame that so many restaurants are located in such a dangerous area read more

Came here for an awards dinner. Full disclosure, my team and I won best-in-cohort which made everything taste that much better. I had the fillet mignon which I asked for medium. It was cooked perfectly. They had potatoes and asparagus for the table - I was disappointed to discover the potatoes had gluten (why would you even do that). Our visit to Eddie Merlot's was a unique experience. Grateful for a who friend advised us on navigating the garage, as she said they ended up parking way too far away and she had to walk across the garage in heels searching for the door. While there are signs, it was difficult to locate the correct door. Once we knew where we were going it was super convenient. Larger, brighter signs can be helpful. When we arrived we were seated on the other side of a partition from an event. It was quite awkward to hear that event's microphone and music. I would suggest that this room with very few tables not be used for public when there's an event going on. It felt like we were at someone's wedding and it was not enjoyable. The waiter was telling us about the menu at a very low whisper which was difficult to hear with the event going on the other side of the partition. Eventually we placed our order and once the food came, the experience improved. We enjoyed the house salad, prime ribeye, macaroni and cheese with lobster, the Ruby Red Spritz, a cappuccino, and dessert. The food was comparable to other similarly priced restaurants, but I was disappointed that there was a moldy raspberry in my cocktail. I quickly removed it and enjoyed the drink once removed. The dessert was a lot of theatrics as the one we ordered is prepared table-side. Sadly, not a first choice for premium dining for us! read more

I took my husband to Eddie Merlot's for his birthday and we had a lovely experience. The ambiance was very nice. I liked the decor and the bar area. We sat in a curved booth in the dining room which was nice! The tables are pretty close together and the restaurant was packed. Our server was very nice and I must say the cocktails were strong. I got a seasonal mule and had a buzz before I finished it. The food was great. My husband got the bison ribeye and it was a 10/10 for sure. I got the trio of filet medallions and highly recommend if you are like me and love sauces and toppings on your steak! The tempura green beans were my favorite side and liked that it was totally out of pocket for a steakhouse side. In the end, we were happy with our meal and would return again! read more

Very nice establishment inside. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. We started off with the Beef Carpaccio and were thoroughly impressed with it. The French onion soup was probably the best I've ever had. I got the 12 oz Prime Ribeye which was very well seasoned and perfectly cooked. My husband got the Wagyu steak which neither of us were really impressed with. It seemed bland to me. We ordered the King Crab legs which were perfectly cooked and even laser cut open to make them easier to eat. Everything was great with an exception of the side dishes. Both the Brussels with bacon and the scalloped jalapeño potatoes were under cooked. We did not eat them and the server was kind enough to have them removed from our bill. read more

Wow... The level of pure elegance and beautifully opulent decorations in this restaurant is breathtaking. Our server, Cole, was very knowledgeable about the menu and put my parents and I at ease during my first night as a Pittsburgh resident. Though we were underdressed, he put us at ease and Served us attentively throughout our dining experience. The food was spectacular. I had the crab and corn bisque, fillet potstickers, and the lemon Dijon chicken. They were all amazing. For dessert, we each had a couple of bites of the triple chocolate cake. It was a bit dry, but still very tasty. When I have the money, I will definitely go back. read more
