I grew up eating Eddie and Ruby's. But I moved away and haven't found anything like them. So I drove back 500 miles to enjoy that good hometown flavor. Just to find they have terrible hours and don't let u in the building anymore. Pandemic ways in 2026. That's a terrible and disappointing way to run business. They don't care like the used to. And to be a landmark to many that grew up with them and supported them it's terrible the way they are now with the hours of service and not letting you in the building. Made a stop for a late lunch at Eddie and Ruby's. Line wasn't long at all considering it was a little after 1pm when I went. The guy taking the orders is so sweet. As long as you move up when he tells you, you won't have any problems lol. Ordered the catfish sandwich, which comes with fries during lunch. I got 5 nice sized pieces of fish and the fries were the right amount for lunch. I'm still puzzled about this wheat bread though. I forgot they serve it so I didn't ask if I could get white instead. At least that saved me a few carbs not eating bread. I still love the way they're doing orders. I keep thinking they will probably never go back to the old way of customers coming inside. My brother spoke endlessly about this place and I promised him I'd give it a try. He attended Jackson State University many years ago and he remembered this restaurant from that time. It was very popular. I stopped by and was told to get in line. They are not letting anyone walk in and they only do curbside service. The wait is pretty long but not unbearable. There were many cars already lined up and a man walks to each car and takes the order. I ordered a 4 piece catfish filet meal with fries. After about 30 minutes of waiting I finally was able to pull near the door and my order was given to me. The man who handed me my order was friendly. The fish was fresh and seasoned well and cooked perfectly. The fries were good. I paid $18.25 for my meal with card. I will be returning. :-) read more

It's our first time here, so we weren't sure if we could call in our order ahead of time. There's two ways to order, pull up to the "drive up" car lane, someone will come to your car and take your order, or through Waitr for pick up/delivery. We got there around 5pm, there were several cars in front of us, but they are fast, and the food is made fresh to order. We got the pan trout dinner (4 pan trout, 2 sides) with double fries, and 3 piece catfish filet sandwich (really 6 pieces), all fried hard. We waited 15mins at most. I was so excited to see my bundle of joy, white steaming bag of fried goodness delivered right to my car window. I got a whiff of the fresh, hot, fried fish, now I just had to take a peek (shouldn't have done that). It was over, I'm done, no way am I making home without a nibble... Y'all they piled this so high I got like the whole fish tank in my bag. Everything was so well seasoned, I did the happy dance all 35 minutes home. By the time we made it back, there was only 1 pan trout filet left The price is AMAZING! I couldn't find a menu online, so I looked at their menu through Waitr. If you're on a time crunch, I highly recommend ordering it through Waitr for pick up, the price difference is only .10-.30 cents, definitely worth saving you some time. Carlyn M. I come from out of town from Seattle, WA and in the past this place has been a treat for me and my family but my last 2 visits have not been pleasant. Prior to COVID, it was a joy to interact with this family that owns and runs this establishment. My last 2 trips (post COVID) where we had to place our order from our car in the drive up line forced us to interact with his man who took our orders (man with a straw hat). He was RUDE, IMPATIENT, and CONDESCENDING when we asked questions before placing our orders. I thought maybe he was having an bad day but when I visited again a few days ago he displayed the same behavior. Behavior as if he was doing us a favor by allowing us to eat at his establishment. God forbid this man to actually appreciate his customers, his customers who frequent and support a black-owned business in the community or appreciation we were spending our hard-earned money at his business. I'm not sure who this guy is that takes the orders but someone who owns the business need to coach him on customer service- QUICK! I took my ass a few steps down the street at Valley Fish House and the fish was phenomenal, the lady and gentleman there was pleasant to talk with and this portions were better. Since they never answer the phone I tried explaining a problem I encountered with my food a few weeks ago. Standard fair catfish, Pan Trout fish joint. But they are venturing in serving other things. But I stick to what they make best Catfish Fillets and Pan Trout (Whitting). But it's basic country cooking and some have the preference - you have Valley Street Fish House up the block and then you have Eddie's. Both are just as good as the other, Valley Street stays open later at night - therefor the increased business. But if you want some down home fried fish - you can't go wrong with Eddie's. For all you people caught up on aesthetics - Eddie's is in Washington Addition (the hood) - but I've seen people of all races and no one has had any problems. But if you get on the venturesome side looking for OTHER things - then you are on your own. But if you stick to the grub, you should be in good shape. read more

This place is definitely a hole in the wall, in a not so glamorous neighborhood, but don't let that fool you. The food is delicious. It's truly a no frills fish joint. The menu is limited but the quality of food is good. We had the catfish order and it didn't disappoint. The fish was fried to perfection and seasoned very well. I have been in Jackson for 2 years and was recommended this place by a coworker. This is by far the worse take out I have visited thus far. Flies were flying everywhere and one flew on someone food and all the kitchen worker did was close the plate. Very nasty, and the old lady that runs the register is so rude. Definitely on point for good fish since I use to take my son here when he would come visit for the summer as a little boy and now that he is an adult he wants to stop in and get fish when he visits now.
