If decadent artery clogging goodness is what you look for in a cake then cake designs by Edda is definitely the place, not only is the rum cake addicting but the designs are eye catching & classy. Price?...dig deep at $3.49 per slice it will leave you scrounging around for spare change just to meet the demand...but trust me it's worth every copper penny. On the down side the customer service is in urgent need of an overhaul your more likely to receive better customer service by an inmate at the Folsom prison kitchen then by any staff at Edda's but then again you weigh your gains with your losses...great tasting beautiful cake served just right by angry prison guards with taser guns aimed right at your groin =) you decide. read more

I have been coming here for years. Never had an issue before. This weekend was a catastrophe! I placed an order with them back in March, and paid it by April 1st. I had to change the design and pick up time.. sent it in an email form as they had advised and I called it to make sure they received my email. They confirmed it was all good and they will be changing the pick up time from 3p to 9am and the cake design was slightly changed as well. Come event day and I show up at 10 to pick up my cake and long and behold, NO CAKE IS READY!!! They NEVER changed my time! I come from Homestead to pick it up.. and they said it MIGHT be ready by 2:30p the earliest. They were able to confirm that the design was the updated one, but that person NEVER UPDATED THE TIME. My party for my baby was reserved only until 5p. I received their call at 3:02. I had to make accommodations for a guest that was there to help me with the other guests while I stepped out to pick up the cake. The cake was beautiful and tasty but by the time I got back with the cake, over half the guests were gone and we were being asked to break down the party. I cried after all of the stress I was put under because they did not do their job of updating my pick up time; EVEN THOUGH I CALLED AND EMAILED THEM THE CHANGE TO MAKE SURE IT WAS DONE. I ordered a birthday cake with Tulips and paid for it online. On the day of the pick up, I get a call from the store reminding me of their new hours and no mention of not having my cake ready with the Tulips that I had ordered and paid for. When I went to pick up the birthday cake, it was not ready yet and was told that they had no Tulips and had to pick something else. I was really upset since they waited this long to tell me and it was a prepaid order and Tulips are my daughter's favorite flowers. Things became even more disappointing when we tried the cake since it was dry and not with the moist vanilla rum cake mixture that we had ordered. It was clear to us all that this cake was not fresh. I emailed them letting them know of what happened since they pride themselves of being known for their high standards, but unfortunately never heard back from them. Our wedding Cake was absolutely amazing and so delicious, I'm still sad I only got one slice! They did such a great job and it looked exactly like the picture in my head. I had order a cake at this establishment on Oct 23, they were closed on Oct 24th, on the 25th I had to cancel the order , not only did I get the run around, with this order , I was told I signed a non refundable, form, of which I was never told what I was signing, granted I should have read the fine print, but it is of a good merchant to advise the customer what their signing, but I was rushed by the vendor when I placed the order, Yami claimed she could process a refund minus the transaction fee which is 15%, which I agreed too, but then she started to play mind games and started to get annoyed , after I questioned the unreasonable statements that she was making. She would go to the back room pretending to speak to someone when she part owner, I heard giggles. Their behavior was dry! in the years I've been here I had never encountered this behavior, but then I hadn't been wearing my Jewish Kippa, so maybe this had something to do with their unethical behavior. I was going in for a pickup only to be greeted by a sour face (it was an older woman) at the counter and was basically ignored despite me only being there to pick up and pay. After waiting nearly 30 minutes, I was handed off to a younger associate, who was nice and polite, but I was given a very half assed cake. The icing was very sweaty, and the lettering I asked for wasn't centered and sized appropriately. I've managed a bakery in NYC and know what a rush job looks like and know that sweaty buttercream is a storage problem (buttercream icings shouldn't sit at room temp for too long or they will get gross and sweaty like mine.) My sons first birthday was this past Saturday. I picked up the cake at 830 AM as promised, brought it home and shortly before the party began, the Mickey Mouse Ears decoration laying at the top of the cake cracked and fell. I rushed back to Edda's and without hesitation, the wonderful staff repaired and strengthened the decoration, returning it to a perfect cake for his first birthday celebration. Worst customer service ever!! Their cakes looked beautiful and they came recommended by my venue so I figured I would try them. However when I arrived for my cake tasting appointment. No one greeted us when we walked in I had to chase around someone to let them know I was there even though two employees were sitting in the front which appear to be doing nothing. There was not even anyone else in the store. The tables were filthy with used napkins and silverware. When they finally brought over our cake tasting samples they just put them down on the table and walked away without any explanation other than a few quick words spoken in Spanish which I do not understand, and walked away before I could respond. Hat's off to Yami for her willingness to move forward with making a gluten-free cake made from pure almond flour. Their original gluten-free cake mix is a hybrid of different ingredients, some of which my nephew is allergic to. So in the interest of ensuring that he has zero reaction, they were willing to make his birthday cake from a pure almond mix and it came out AMAZING! I gave this place a 4 star because the cakes are honestly to die for, I love LOVE the original vanilla rum cake they serve but they're a little expensive. I have ordered from them several times. To give you an example of their prices , I ordered my baby shower cake for 60 people (the cakes was the simplest design they had for a girl baby shower) the cake was a square cake with white and hot pink icing with baby foot prints, it cost $126.00 (including tax) . Based on their customer service during my wedding cake tasting, I would not recommend. When my fiance and I arrived at the store for our scheduled appointment nobody greeted us or even looked at us in the eyes, keep in mind that we were the only customers there. When we finally got someone's attention they did not ask for our name or anything they just told us to sit down and immediately left behind some doors to the back with no explanation. Through the online scheduling system, we had pre-selected what flavors we wanted to try. However, since they clearly had no idea who we were and had no interest in knowing that information a different woman appeared through the doors and plopped down a try with a completely random assortment of flavors. Immediately she also just left through the doors to the back without giving me the opportunity to say anything and she did not bother to explain anything at all. Through our appointment, we were provided with 0 guidance or care. After we tasted the cakes and we sat there for a while in the empty store the woman reappeared and in a tone as if she were annoyed with us asked us if we made our decision. When I started to explain to her what we wanted and the flavors she got up to answer a phone call. Keep in mind that this phone call wasn't to assist another customer but she was just complaining to her coworker about someone else. After her call, she took our order and when we asked her what time the cake would be delivered to our wedding venue she asked- what time does the wedding start? to which I responded 5:30 pm and she then just proceeded to write on our order form 5:30 pm as the delivery time. Don't think it's crazy to think that maybe the cake should arrive before the ceremony begins so I'm not worrying during my ceremony about whether the cake was delivered. Once I signed the order form she just got up and left through the doors again. she did not say thank you or asked if we had any questions. She said nothing just took the order form and left through the doors. We were so uncomfortable with the whole interaction that we actually decided to cancel the order and go with Earth & Sugar as our cake vendor. Overall, based on our experience I was even scared that the day of the wedding the cake would be delivered late or not at all because their lack of attention to details and customer service seemed non-existent. read more

Not only did we have to pick up the cake a day early because they close Sunday but the cake spoiled. This was for a kids birthday party and the cake since it was prepared in advance it spoiled. I am so grateful to Maria Cristina and the bakers/artists here. They took a photo and a ribbon I brought and created a striking cake for my mother's very special birthday. The service at the bakery as I placed the order was indicative of the product I'd be picking up, (even their reputation for excellent flavor precedes them). Yet, I did not expect the element of surprise as we received this finished work of art. Not only was it delicious- not one of those where guests politely decline a slice. Not much was left over. we were very disapointed with my sister's wedding cake. When my sister cut the cake half was cake and the other half was a stack of card boards. Both tiers were like that.. they look 4 inches wide. We felt sheated that this baker added card boards to make the cake look wider without even telling us about it. How can you run a business sheating to customers. Edda's is one of four bakeries on the Biltmore Hotel's wedding cake options. Unfortunately, they will NOT be making the cake for my wedding. The customer service is AWFUL. We walked into the store and had to wait 10 minutes to be acknowledged. During those 10 minutes of waiting a customer was clearly upset because her cake was NOT ready at the time Edda's promised it would be. I thought that a cake tasting would entail a customer service representative sitting down with me and the groom to be to discuss flavors and filling pairing; however, the woman just plopped a silver tray with different cakes down on the table in front of us and told us the names of the flavors were underneath each cake. I am not sure why so many people rave about the cake because to be honest, it tasted like it was doused in simple syrup, which is not my idea of a delicious cake. I am actually disappointed in the Biltmore for having Edda's as one of the options for cakes in their package. Edda's may have once been delicious and had great customer service but not anymore. The cakes are delicious, expensive, but the customer service is poor. But I have put up with it for over a decade because the cakes are just beautiful. However, last Saturday, my $200 cake was not ready when promised and the color was way off. I paid for the beautiful royal blue and what I got was a cheap looking sky blue pastel. We called after the cake was delivered to the party site (3 hours late) to advise of the off putting color, the manager Vanessa insisted that the color was right. Even her own two delivery ladies (Patti being one) agreed it was not the right color and said to call Vanessa. We did and emailed as well but still waiting for a reply. Edda, you need to hire people that are not color blind and train your people to provide better customer service, if you care at all about keeping your business. If I could give this company negative stars, I would. I never write reviews but my experience here has been so awful that I need to let people know about it. I don't know if it is just this location or the company as a whole, but my experience has been just awful. Being an event planner, I have ordered cakes from Edda's in the past. So when my usual baker was unavailable, I decided to order a cake from them for my sisters baby shower. It was a very simple cake - a blend of two of their "models". First of all, the amount that they charged me for the cake was triple what I would ordinarily pay for a cake that size, but knowing that it would be delicious (from past experience), we decided to pay it. I went to pick up the cake and it was adorable. The day of the shower, we cut it, and the flavor was not what we ordered. It was just a plain cake, no filling, nothing. I know people make mistakes so while I was annoyed, I was still calm and understanding about the situation. I called on Monday morning and calmly explained my problem. They were shocked to hear that my order was incorrect and told me that their office manager would call me back that day. I didn't hear anything for 2 days, so I called them again. They must have been screening my calls and hung up on me 5 times. 5. Times. They picked up the phone, and then hung it up. I would never have called so many times, but after paying what we did for the cake and the complete lack of customer service or simple respect, I could not let it go. When someone finally answered the phone they answered extremely rudely, calling me by my first name and asking me what I wanted. Not their usual phone greeting. Until that point I had been very nice. A nice (or so I thought) girl came on the phone and seemed to be listening to me problem, then abruptly hung up on me once again. When I called back, I asked them what was going on and they told me they were having issues with their phones. While laughing. Yea right. They once again told me that "Vanessa", their office manager would be calling me back but I still have not heard from her. I say "Vanessa" because at this point, I'm not sure that there even really is an office manager named Vanessa. Even though I am the customer, I would expect to get some attitude or pushback if I was rude, but that's the problem! I wasn't, and I could have been, justifiably! This was almost a month ago. My stepmother has since called multiple times to try and get this resolved, but they are just dodging our calls. To tell you the truth, we may have just accepted a simple apology and small percentage off the cost of the cake, but with the way we have been treated, we will be disputing the charge because of their unwillingness to even address the problem. I'm sorry for the long review, but I don't think that there are enough words to discourage anyone from ordering from this place. They should go out of business because they clearly don't know how to run one. read more

The worse part is that I have called three times and ask for the manager and given a detail msg, that I want the extra money that I gave for something they did not do and they don't return my call. It could not have gone better, the person that took my order was very patient and nice, she gave me a tasting of every flavor and when I went to go pick it up it was ready and absolutely the way it was supposed to be.
