Adequate Basic No-Frills Overnight Stay SITREP One of my usual overnight stops on my 761 mile driving-treks along I-5 between Sacramento, CA (my home) and Seattle, WA (mom's home). THE SETUP Eugene, OR has proven to be a nice midway point in terms of driving rest. It doesn't hurt either that there is a VOODOO DONUTS shop in Eugene. [First stop on my way out of Eugene next morning is to pick up some donuts for friends in both Portland and Centralia on my trek to Seattle.] LODGING CHOICE Choice Hotels is one of my lodging memberships. Although a lower tier than my other memberships like Hilton Honors or Wydham, it's more than sufficient - and eminently economical - for my solo treks, usually allowing me to access overnight stays on average between $60 and $80 a night base rate. Eugene EconoLodge I can snag for $70 a night with a combination of online discounts and my AAA-membership. Otherwise it is still a very reasonable $80/night. ROOM METRICS Since I spend no more than one night at a time here on my SacTown-Seattle Treks, I can forego any amenities that I would want on a longer stay. As long as I have a bed, I'm good. Yelp remove this review from my account but this review is my only transparent review as a documentarian and as a photographer, I'm in my right to express what happened here at this motel. The city of Eugene and city services and health reach out to me to discuss my experience at the Econo. My review has help the city to come to a vote to shutdown the his motel because it was violating consumer and customer rights. I have video of an unprofessional and disrespectful manager that cursed me out after I explained to her about my rooms not being clean. This happened while through the pandemic and this review was posted two years ago almost 3 years This is located in Eugene My reason for my visit to Eugene on 2020 is to move down to San Francisco but visit on the way down from North and Portland. So it was clear to me and decided to stop in Eugene. I was here three times in the past but once stay in this city for a day back in 2013 another hotels and hotel here. So I booked through Priceline and Kayak and for odd prices each time. The first time it was $64 US dollars, then the second time it was $54 US dollars and the third time $57 US dollars. But as I check in my room 240 and needed to use the bathroom after a 1.1-mile walk from Amtrak Station, There it was a towel that I pick up off the top of the towel bowl and it was a used towel and it wasn't even clean as it was folded. As I look around the room it looks good but it was the bed that set alarms off and the reason why I have further investigate. There was women's hair all over the bed. That's a RED FLAG. As I look around the bed, Oh my panda, how gross this has to be. "take a good look at the images" Yes, the first night I sleep on the floor, the second night in the computer chair and that includes the 3rd night as well. There was quite a bit of noise I heard when I stayed here, which kept me from getting much sleep. Now, the reasons why I didn't report it, I haven't taken a picture yet and I wanted to show the agency and others, as I am traveling, documentarian, photographing what kind of an experience this has to be. The bathroom shower floods up as I was preparing a shower to go shoot some video, I notice the tub was filling up due to bad and dirty water pipes in the hotel. For the price, I should have gone down the street for another Hotel but maybe they are all the same. Maybe, from what I've observed as they could and own the hotel next door too. I've kept 100% social distance from hotel guests and staff and from what I see from the cleaning staff is something you have to take with a grain of salt. The video and images are going to shock you. It's important to keep everyone safe while we fight a battle that we are losing right now with the virus. Most hotels follow the State Law Public health guideline on Covid and those are to wait at least 24 hours because cleaning and preparing the room for another guest to check in two days. I should know this information now as I was in Portland and the adjudicator will also tell you to keep safe. Holy crap, I've never been scared to stay in a hotel room before until I stayed at Econo Lodge in Eugene. I fell for the flashy photos on Expedia and yes, the price tag. But it definitely doesn't pay to save money here. We were doing a road trip to southern Oregon and making stops along the way, Eugene being one of them. We drove from Medford, Oregon late at night, so we were exhausted and just wanted to pass out. Once we arrived at Econo Lodge, we realized that check-in was done at a window outside versus inside a lobby due to COVID-19. I get we're in a pandemic, but I think taking out my credit card in the middle of the night and slipping it through the crack of a window to the employee made me a little cautious since across the street was a vagrant yelling slurs and whatnot. So yeah, not the best location. Then we got to our room, which was not only old, but it smelled. The lock on the door didn't work, so that was scary. The fridge didn't work, so we had to throw out a lot of our food out, and the bathroom had mold all over. The only reason we could sleep was because it was 1am and we had been on the road all day, so fortunately, that helped. But we woke up five hours later, only wanting to check out as early as possible and bounce. I am not a picky person when it comes to hotels and truly, I don't mind budget hotels. But this one freaked me out given the location, broken lock and pretty sure a black light would find shit I'd prefer to not know about. Obviously, splurge a little and stay elsewhere. read more

For a Cheaper price... You too can have a Room with NO-MICROWAVE... No Wi-Fi... a Broken sink in the Bathroom... Very Noisy street. And immediate neighbors (Thin walls)... not to mention the incredibly poor customer service when asking about a microwave. I've patronized this motel many times over the years but never again. read more

***** please read ********* I have never in my life stayed at the worst hotel. Upon arriving at the place I was greeted by an elderly and legally blind woman behind the counter. I felt bad for her so I read all of my card information and all of the confirmation information to her several times and waited there for almost a half hour outside in the cold before she could check me in properly. It was about midnight by the time I checked in and I went to my room and fell Asleep immediately. I woke up in the early afternoon and hop in the shower. I was greeted by mold on the ceiling and door frames from the bathroom being improperly vented and dirty (pictured). I thought ew this is gross but I'll put up with it for one more night not a big deal. When do you put my clothes away and was greeted by Rat poop in the drawer (ew) (pictured). By this time I'm no longer interested in staying there and started to make the bed. The bed was covered in little blood stains from what looked to be bedbugs. At this point I pack my shit and I'm ready to leave. I go talk to the manager and tell her I'm not staying in this hotel and she informed me that because it is mid afternoon she will still be charge me for the night!!!! I stayed there one night and have now been charged for four. (Pictured) I have also been on the phone for an hour a total of four hours with their outsourced customer service agency that does not care about their consumer At all. I urge you. Do you not stay in this nasty disgusting hole in the wall. You're better off saving your money and sleeping in your car with the heater on then being robbed by this nasty hotel Ps They have two hotline numbers to call to complain an 800 number and corporate office. My cousin made this reservation for me having never stayed here they used an online site. I paid for a 1 bedroom Suite with two double beds. I got 2 rooms connected via a door way. The "bedroom was 24" wider than the two beds. There is a crack where the ceiling and outside wall meet. The shower has mold in the corners and along the bottom wall/tub rim, there is no non-slip anything in the tub bottom as a Disabled Veteran with 12 knee surgeries including an artificial one it sure would have been nice to shower without leaning against the wall for support, and there is a water leak in the bathroom above the sink and instead of fixing it they painted over it. Notice the wires hanging down loose and the smoke detector was just sitting on top of the microwave. Had it not have been a major event weekend I would have went to the Hilton down the street. Don't bother. Place is straight out of the stone age and had not been cleaned in I don't know how one. I have never stayed in such a filthy hotel. The room smelled like cigarette smoke, I had a low grade nausea the whole time in the room. The mattress was old and not very supportive.

No idea why people have left such bad reviews! The room was extremely nice and very clean! Entire staff were very friendly and helpful. The housekeeper kept up with everything and we stayed for 5 nights. Quiet motel, no ruckus from other guests or anything. Super nice bath/shower, the shower head has three settings which makes it very comfortable. No bugs, not even ants which infest almost everything in Eugene. I would also like to add, if you book a suite at an Econo Lodge, it's not going to be like a suite in a Marriott. That's why the prices are so low. We stayed in the suite room and it was very nice! Living room area with a couch and two queen beds as well as a microwave and a mini fridge! read more

I called and spoke with the general manager, Gita, about my experience in their establishment. She attempted to make excuses for the state of her facility, passed blame onto the staff she has running the place, and then said she'd give me a 30% credit for my room. I have yet to see a refund on my card, but perhaps the 3-5 business days kind of thing applies to this? I'm extremely disappointed in this entire experience. What a dump!! For $150/night this place was way below what is expected for that price. Bed cover had cigarette burns in it. The freezer wasn't working and had some dirty liquid thawing in it. The refrigerator was leaking water onto the floor. We had 1/3 of a roll of toilet paper with no toilet paper holder in the bathroom. There was a gap in the wall around the bathtub- ever heard of caulk?? There was a cabinet door that didn't close because of a broken latch and we had to wedge it closed or else it hung open. Are you kidding me? Ghetto motel. Front desk clerk had readers and was using two (TWO) magnifying glass to see the computer monitor and took 30 minutes to check in because she couldn't do her job. The key cards she gave us didn't work so we had to go back to get two different ones. Then the toilet runs all night and we wake up to a big puddle in the bathroom from the toilet. I tell them we need more towels and the toilet fixed while we are gone and they never show. I call and they make me go to the front desk to get towels. Once there they say they can't do anything for the toilet(which is still running) with a puddle again forming on the floor. Breakfast is coffee and danishes. That's it. No juice no cereal. Spend a few extra bucks and avoid the CRAPPY place with the broken door latch and the broken toilets... read more

I would recommend that you take a good look in your hotel room before hand. I don't even want to give this a star. They had to move me and my fiance to three different rooms because the first room had black mold on the ceiling above our bed and hair on the towels and what looks like blood all over the walls. Second room, the shower was broken along with a dirty fridge and hair all over the counters. Our third room, dirty towels, toilet and sinks leaking with rust around the faucet. Didn't have the same appliences (microwave,fridge,etc.) I would highly highly recommend going somewhere else! read more

For the very low price, this hotel had it going on. My room was mostly clean the shower was hot, the bed was fine and the staff were very friendly and very helpful. I would stay there again if I was in Eugene. It was the least expensive option of the hotels available in the Eugene area where I wanted to stay and for the cost it met my expectations. read more

So as suggested I went to the hospital and these are my results. Friday night when I got into my room I never left. Saturday I got a haircut at Barbers Eugene then came back to the room where I stayed until 7pm then I went to see a movie. When I came back that night I noticed a long black hair in the sheets and thought that was odd especially the next day when you only offered to give me new sheets instead of a refund so I can go somewhere else or even another room. The sheets you gave me had hair in them as well. I'm sorry to be so angry but, I payed for a double room suite and opted to sleep in the chair the last night because I couldn't trust where I was sleeping. Now I have an infection. read more

This motel is on a strip with a lot of other motels--and I'd suggest you choose one of the others. Here's a synopsis: 1. We stayed for three nights. Each day and each night, without exception, they reset the key cards so we had to go back to the office to get it fixed. 2. The wireless didn't work in the room - only outside in the parking lot. 3. Only 2/3 of the lights worked in our suite. 4. The beds in both our room and our parents' room were softer than any I've experienced. They swallowed me up very uncomfortably. 5. One bed was propped up on two-by-fours. When you sat at the end of the bed, the top flipped up and the bed flew off its two-by-fours. 6. The continental breakfast was stale pastries in plastic wrappers. It is quiet, though, and the showers are indeed hot. read more

An absolute horrible motel. Worst part is when you check in they want a $200 security deposit, even for one night stay. They put a hold on it for four days and when you questioning them about it they tell you "well it doesn't leave your account" "it's still in there". But the fact is you can't spend it until it gets released. I was on a budget and they basically held hostage my bank account when they didn't tell me about this charge beforehand.The rooms are noisy, smelly, and the staff is kind of smelly and cold too, I've stayed there before. Ali booked a hotel at the Red Lion (we were in town with 10k other people for the Eugene Marathon), unfortunately someone dropped the ball and we were put in for Sunday night and not Saturday night. Which meant, we had to scramble to find a room. The only place with openings was this Econo Lodge. We booked a non-smoking room for $100/night. Now imagine a knitted sock. Then imagine an old ash tray filled with cigarettes and water. Now imagine soaking said knitted sock into that watery ash tray. Now imagine leaving this ash-tray-water-logged-sock in the sun for a month. Now imagine putting this sun-baked-ash tray-water-logged sock over your head and taking a large, deep breath. This is what it was like upon opening the front door. There were stains all over the walls (I don't want to know where from). There were holes all over the walls (looked like there was a forced break-in) There was mildew in the bathroom (every where) There was water damage in the bathroom (ran from floor to ceiling) There were multiple holes in the bedding (they went straight through) The smoke detector was disassembled & on top of the armoire (covered in dust) Within 10 minutes of being in the room (windows and door open to try to air it out), we were all covered in hives, red/oozing eyes and runny noses. We left and packed the car up, fearful that our luggage would soak in the smell. We found the nearest Target and loaded up on Benadryl and eye drops. We then called every where, we even had 2 friends aid our mission to call every where. Praying and hoping to all that is good in this world, that there was a cancelation somewhere, ANYWHERE but the Econo Lodge. We finally secured another room, which ended up being a God send, at the Broadway Inn. It's their fault your room was not non-smoking." Me: "Listen, regardless of the awful smell, the condition of the room is unacceptable and unhealthy." Manager: ".......................................... Ok, we will issue a full refund, but it is not our fault that it was a smoking room." Me: "And the rest of the damage...??... Neverrmind, thank you for the full refund. We'll be going now." Despite the aesthetic damages to the room, the fact that we all had immediate health reactions, shows that this is a very unsanitary place to stay. read more

This is a basic economy hotel. It's nice to be able to stay somewhere on a budget - When I stayed here (February 11, 2010), it was $54.99 per night (+ taxes & fees). The front office person (owner?) was very nice and friendly. There was quite a bit of noise I heard when I stayed here, which kept me from getting much sleep. Starting in the evening, I started hearing noise from cars parking and people talking outside; at around 6:30 in the morning, there were some loud pounding noises from the upper floor that woke me up. Also, the refrigerator had a slight buzz when it came on, which woke me up at night (I suppose I'm a light sleeper). They have wireless internet access, but it's not very reliable, and at first it was too slow to even be usable (web pages, etc. would time out). On a more positive note, the bed I had was comfortable and firm enough. Also, basic cable was included in the room. read more

The couch had blood stains. BLOOD STAINS. They were charging $177 for the room, and there were stains everywhere. The walls had dried fluids. The ironing board was stained. The bathroom was moldy. The wash cloths had makeup stains from the previous occupant. One of the beds (a two bedroom room) blocked access to the bathroom. You had to squish yourself against the wall to get to the bathroom, waking up anyone in that bed in the process. Again....BLOOD STAINS on the couch! Not a "little" bit, but a concerning amount. Like, crime scene amount. I just called the police and the Environmental Health agency. The couch had a pool of dried blood! When we asked for a refund, the owner/manager said no. I told him about the blood stains, and he just gave me a blank look. I asked him if he would pay that much for a blood stained room. He told me they were "renovating". The woman here and her family were incredibly nice. We spent one night before heading to U of O. The breakfast spread is nothing special...a few things grabbed from costco. However like the other yelpers have said, it is quiet place. This place is popular among the college football teams and fans alike according to the owners for a place to stay.. so they are accommodating for the most part with noise and nonsense. If you don't care about accommodations and just want a place to crash for the night this place is ideal. read more

I've stayed at a dozen or more Econo Lodges, and this was the WORST experience I've had. When we checked in, the girl at the desk directed us in the wrong direction-twice!! We found our room, which was not cleaned well at all. Empty toilet paper roll. No tissue. And the worst? SMUDGES AND STAINS ALL OVER THE BATHROOM WALLS!! We brought my kid! Really???? Nasty. Lastly, my reservation had a kid on it. We were placed in a room next to a few party boys- thankfully my son sleeps deeply and we were tired from the fair and Theory to care much. I mean...we had a good time too. Just not that loudly. And worse? The place wasn't packed... Very disappointed. Thankfully we only spent $70 on a crappy place. I joke. read more

UPDATE! After getting home from my overnight in Eugene, Oregon I began itching what I originally thought were some mosquito bites. Long story short, I got bitten by bed bugs five times on my right leg (3), right arm (1) and left arm (1). The nasty, itchy and gross bites are still on my body today (three weeks later), but are definitely on the mend. Pretty sure the critters were on the couch of my "suite" and not in the bed. The way I sat on it, the actual bite locations make sense. I would avoid this hotel.......or at least room 282. read more

This is an example of why yelp needs a zero star option. Soft beds from the 80s WITH NO FITTED SHEETS!! Worse yet is it is clear that the typical patrons of this motel are not the type I want to cozy up with. In the night the flat sheet to bunched up OF COURSE and I was forced to lay on a bare mattress. Sink didn't drain and toilet didn't fill. I guess I could have used the dirty ice bucket to scoop water from the sink to fill the toilet. Pillows are old and so is the bed. Both are o rely worn and terribly soft. Wasn't my first choice to stay at, but no other motels/hotels had rooms available during graduation weekend of University of Oregon... Where to being... First, the "front desk" prison window... Yep, 9pm and they lock up the front desk and have a tiny security window to get signed in to get your room assignment... That should have tipped me off. We get in the room and the paint is literally peeling off in sheets. The bed on the right which I "slept" in was broke in the middle so I "slept" in the shape of a "V".... The bathroom vent control was broken so that explained the mold. There was no phone in the room to call down to the little security window for help. The air conditioning was anything but. Turn it on and set it to cool and it ran for about 5 mins and would shut off for about 20 mins. It never got below 80 in the room. The bed lamp was duct taped to the night stand. The flat screen TV wires were lose hanging from the TV so you tripped over them and short of removing all the cables, you just had to live with tripping over them. The bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. The "breakfast" consisted of paste that was labeled oatmeal. bread and a toaster, 7/11 style packaged danish that looked as if someone had stepped on them and a darker than water substance they labeled coffee... I filled out their feedback on whatever booking site I had used and the manager responded in an email to me. The response was that nobody reported the A/C wasn't working... The phone was on the desk even though it wasn't and I took photos to prove everything I wrote about. The only other thing the manager commented on was the taping of the lamp. I had written incorrectly that the lamp was taped to the wall when it was actually taped to the nightstand... So essentially, the manager called me a liar... So, I responded that I did take pictures of everything AND I would be forwarding all of the information to review sites and Econo Lodge corp HQ... I received no response from the manager after that... Not a shocker after reading one after the other of the 1 star reviews.... Never again... read more

Little motel of horrors We booked this motel, the only one available, in December for the U of O graduation and stayed for three nights. It's a basic, dumpy place, like you used to find on the old Route 66, or maybe still do. The Good The owners were very nice. So was the housekeeper. There was a newish armoire and flat screen tv and their sign says they have HBO and DirecTV. They may. We never used it. That's about all the good I can come up with. The Horrors 1. The toilet seat was crusty. The white paint/sealer had worn off around the inside edges, making it look like it hadn't been cleaned for years. It can't have been very sanitary. We stopped at the front office to ask that it be replaced. Twice. The very nice young woman smiled and told us the manager would look into it. Nothing was done. I don't have any idea if the manager ever entered the room to inspect said seat, but it would have been nice if someone had followed up on the request. 2. The bathroom had black mildew growing in the shower. Nothing a little bleach couldn't fix. Of course, bleach may be at too much of a premium here. 3. The bed, part one. It was far too soft, as in if you sat on the edge you'd end up in the middle without trying. The sheets in our non-smoking room had burn holes in them. I'm pretty sure the blanket had never been washed. The bedspread, well, you've seen those news exposés where they shine a black light. Suffice to say we did our best not to touch it. We slept in our clothes. 4. The bed, part 2. The bed vibrated in the early morning, like there was a phantom "magic fingers" device attached to it(for those too young to remember those, you'd stick a quarter in a slot and the bed would give you a "massage," a source of endless delight to kids and irritation to their parents, and probably intended to add spice to motel one night stands). Being from California, my first thought was that we were having an earthquake. Seems that the priorities here are a little off. Maybe some new toilet seats, bleach, bedding and mattresses would be more welcoming than new tvs. After all, most folks have portable devices for entertainment now, right? Of course, the wireless didn't work either, but I had my mobile hot spot with me so no big deal. If you're looking for basic dumpiness, this is your place. read more

The rooms aren't bad for the price. I stayed there this past Wednesday and tried to extend it for another night. Unfortunately the lady working the front desk was very unkind. Her tone became cold and rude when I asked to extend my stay but that we needed the payment authorization on file renewed. She made me wait over 20 minutes even though the form was emailed immediately. Then, she booked the last room right before finally getting back to me and offered no explanation or apology. I was not rude to her and I hope she was just having a bad day. I was happy with Econolodge up until that point. A different lady helped me the previous day and was very kind. read more

Absolutely disgusting hotel and business in general. After a long day of traveling my boyfriend and I did a quick sweep through of the room. Instantly seeing long black hair all over the room, odd hole in the wall, broken wall outlets and dirty beds. Checking the sheets we found not one but THREE huge bedbugs. We put them in a cup and brought them to the lobby. We politely asked for a refund and that's it. After being told we'd have to wait until 8 am to talk to a manager for our refund we decided to get a room at the motel down the street. Around 9 am we went back to the lobby of the bedbug infested motel and asked to see the manager. Guess what. She wasn't there. We were told "the manager knows about the issue and we can't give you a refund until a bug inspector comes in." We were livid. We live in central Oregon and we had to leave town that day. We showed the lady at the front desk pictures of the bedbugs we found the previous night. Obviously proving there were bedbugs in the room and all we got was a "can I get your information so we can get into contact with you?". It's been about a month and we've gotten no calls. Every time we call, the manager isn't available. Horrible. Would give -10 stars but can't. read more

This is the perfect place to stay if you are a trucker or if you need a place for a frat party. Very run down, paint chipped, lamps torn, cheap bedding, very noisy. One vending machine and it was sold out of everything. No water or beverages available. Front office told us closest place was across the street and a block down. I am an older woman and there's no way I'm walking out across the street and a block down in this area alone at night. I had to stay here site unseen because my flight was canceled at the Eugene airport. This place was barely passable. Barest of minimum necessities. Hands down the worst Econolodge I've stayed in. I expect a no-frills atmosphere from a budget hotel, but this was excessive. Issues: two sinks- one in bathroom, one in "kitchenette", but no microwave or refrigerator. TV was ancient, remote was broken, and it was all stuck inside an annoying armoire. The cable plan had extremely basic cable selection of five channels plus a bunch of home shopping channels. Wi-Fi signal was poor and connection speeds practically unusable. Furniture didn't match and looked like it had been purchased at a thrift store. Linens smelled like smoke and must. Holes in the drywall, with mildew and mold everywhere. Mildly scary neighborhood, lots of noisy vehicle traffic. But most unforgivable, the smoke detector was chirping because the batteries were dead. When I brought this up with the manager, she suggested I pull the batteries out and go without a smoke detector. Got similar responses when I brought four dead light bulbs into the front office. The owner/manager has a substandard property and doesn't seem to be too concerned. read more

I shouldn't even give it that one fucking star. DONT EVER STAY AT THIS ECONO LODGE, OR ANY OF THEM. They took my money for my 3 nights, didn't say anything about a $120 non refundable pet deposit, then tried to change my card the next day for the pet deposit. These people here are the worst. The manager was rude as fuck, and even though I could prove that there was no pet charge on the paper they gave me they still wanted the money. Not the first time have had a problem with a econo lodge, guess that just goes to show that these hotels don't give a shit about there customers, just the $$$$$$$. Don't stay here. I've warned you. Also, there was mold in our room. The manager of this place is so fucking rude, don't stay. They will try and charge you money even though they said nothing about it to you first. Econo Lodge - Hotels Near Me - Eugene, Oregon

I wish I could give this lodging negative stars. My husband and children stayed there a couple of days while we were all moving into the area and trying to get situated. He arrived and there was a broken cabinet, but he found no reason to say anything as it was just a cheap motel. Then, I check the bank and they have charged us an UNDISCLOSED 200 dollar "deposit" on top of what we paid. They did not tell or call us. Then, he goes to check out and asks about this deposit and they said it's going to be to fix the cabinet! When I called and spoke to the general manager, she dodged around the topic when I asked her if she herself saw the cabinet before they moved in. DO NOT EVER STAY HERE. They are too cheap to pay for damage that they caused, and they have no problem charging you without contacting you at all. Awful. read more
