This is the new restaurant in the new Moonrise Hotel in the Delmar Loop. We went for dinner on the 4th of July and had an APPALLING experience. After we found bugs in one of our waters and the waiter failed to apologize much less show any remorse, the food took nearly an hour to be prepared, was extremely expensive, and not very good. The steaks were overcooked, the fish tasted too fishy, and our waiter was a jerk. Not only did he not apologize for anything when we complained but he would hover over our table and stare at us without asking if we needed anything. I realize this sounds over the top but seriously, the food was mediocre at best and was extremely expensive. If I didn't feel so bad for our awkward waiter I wouldn't have tipped. Not planning on going back and I'll say this is the first letdown I've felt from a Joe Edwards project. read more

I stayed at the Moonrise hotel and had 3 meals here....a lunch, dinner and a breakfast. Honestly, it's a bit pricey but then again, it's hotel food so what do you expect? The food isn't bad at all. I don't really recall what I ordered but I don't recall my experience being really negative. The only thing I'd complain about is the pasta with the flat noodles was tasty but a bit oily. WORST BIRTHDAY/ENGAGEMENT CELEBRATION EVER. I went here with my friends to celebrate my birthday and engagement. I made reservations a few weeks prior and was called the day after stating our reservation made need to be canceled due to another large party, but we would receive a call to confirm the cancellation. I never received a follow up call and was still receiving reservation confirmation text. Once we arrived, we were seated under the reservation. This is when things went downhill. The table was not set and there were two paper menus for a table of 12. We were not greeted for about 20 minutes, once we were greeted we were told another table had just been seated and she would be right back. After about 45 minutes we ordered our food and drinks. Our drinks were brought out by the employees holding the rim of the glasses. A receipt for appetizers my friends never received was placed on the table for them to pay for. A couple that was sat an hour after us received their appetizers and food. The next time we saw our server was at 7:16pm after we had initially arrived at 6:00pm. There was no communication about our food, drinks, appetizers, or the wait. Once we asked to speak to the manager we were pretty much told it was our fault because there was another party. We ended up leaving after the conversation due to unprofessional and unhealthy standards. I would not go here, willingly, for a hotel stay, bar service, or dinner due to this experience. read more

An excellent place to dine...if your parents are paying. Eclipse isn't shy about its prices, but I guess it doesn't have to be because the place was hopping when I last ate here. Service is good, food is good, menu choices are a little limited though. I just realized that based on the classiness, liveliness and fun factor of the restaurant, as well as the vibrancy of the surrounding area, this is probably a great place to take a date. Eclipse is in a great location and it has a really hip/cool vibe to it. The staff were great. We had dinner and then a drink upstairs before a show at the Pageant. I had the fish and chips and it was ok. The batter did not adhere to the fish and it wasn't very crunchy. The fries were cold. And it was served with peas, gross. Hostile Service - poorly managed We ordered carryout food the night before and it took 50 minutes instead of the quoted 20. It wasn't busy but there was a birthday party in the other room, the food was ok. The next morning my wife and I had breakfast there and the waitress was all business. "what ya want" and then she was gone. I must say it was prompt but she brought me a coffee that was barely luke warm and if it weren't for the busboy I would have had to flag the waitress down. It wasn't that busy, but on the way to take the neighboring table's drink order she knocked into my chair without uttering a word, a minute later, she knocked into it again without a word. Our food arrived timely but she never checked on us until the end when she asked my wife if she was done with her food. She said no, but the waitress still took it and we had to raise our voice to get her plate back. I called the restaurant an hour later, feeling unsettled, calmly explaining my issues and never even got a call back. So now I have no shame in shaming them. read more

Since staying in the hotel, we were awarded complimentary breakfast, so my friend and I took advantage of the opportunity. I love that they serve bottomless coffee (major points after a night of drinking and a few hours of sleep). There were so many choices on the menu, we didn't even know where to begin!! My friend went with the Three Egg Omelet ...with yukon gold potato hash, toast & choice of diced tomato, bacon, mushroom, mixed bell peppers,spinach, ham, cheddar or swiss cheese. I had the Eclipse Benedict ..two poached eggs & country smoked ham on toasted english muffin with sauce hollandaise. It was so filling and lasted all day. I have to say for the price and the amount of food you get, not too bad. I didn't think the prices were bad at all! I can say that I will be back to check this place out again!! read more

Good Macaroni, Horrible service- we had to go get a waiter the manager was very nonchalant and uninterested. He brought the food. We never seen our waiter again. We asked for lemonade he bought back only one and it's two of us at the table. 5 stars for having by far the best cocktails in St. Louis. I'm not talking about a long list of sugary drinks that places try to pass off as martinis (though if you want something like that, I'm sure they'll make you one). But if you want a a well-made dirty martini or a manhattan, or a unique twist on any of the classic cocktails, this is the place. They also have a really good, cheap breakfast. Omelets the size of my head and cheesy grits are delicious, as are the pancakes. I've gone there for breakfast when I haven't been staying at the hotel, and have never been disappointed. Dinner menu looks a bit more expensive, but I haven't been so can't say whether it's worth it. read more

Glad I got to make a trip to "The Loop!" This bar has a different $10 drink menu every season, but they are all one-of-a-kind drinks, worth the splurge. The restaurant was, for lack of a better description, unpredictible. The first morning, breakfast was prompt and pretty good. Breakfast day two, really really slow as they said the printer ran out of paper and the kitchen did not get my order and comp'd half my food. Day 3, breakfast took just as long without even an apology. Day 4, oatmeal, tasty but again, very slow. At dinner here twice. The first night, my caprese salad was almost all green tomatoes but my pork dish was amazing! Night 2, my colleague asked for better tomatoes and the salad was great but unfortunately, my chicken fell a bit short and the accompanying risotto was almost cold. I've only frequented the downstairs bar and the rooftop bar here at Eclipse and they're great spots to hang out and have a good drink. Their signature cocktails are pricey, $9+ but most of them are so strong that just one will do ya. I miss the French 75 being on the menu, though. Rail drinks aren't bad and their beer offerings are diverse. Just like Blueberry Hill, I ADORE Eclipse for offering Strongbow even if it is canned and not on tap like it is at Blueberry. I just about shrieked in excitement Friday night when I saw the rooftop bar had a fridge full of bottles of Bell's Oberon. (This Michigan brewer's seasonal beer is tied with Schlafly's Summer Lager for best summer beer ever. Ever!) The crowd here is diverse and staff is friendly. Even when you walk in and think 'wow, it's packed in here' there always seems to be somewhere to sit or linger without feeling crammed next to someone. I went here for breakfast on a Friday morning because the pastry/coffee shop down the street didn't open till like 10:30. 10:30? Really? Anyway, yogurt, fresh fruit, coffee, side o ham, and warm banana bread was perfect. And juice. Atmosphere was good, I sat and got some work done before leaving town, and the waiters were attentive. This place seems like it should be cool, is in a nice location, and seems like the perfect place to go before or after a show at the Pageant. However, all Eclipse has is overpriced food that is bland. The drinks there are good, and the prices on alcohol is reasonable so if you are going out to drink at a nicer place than Eclipse is fine. While there, I ordered the Vegetable Ravioli which came with giants pieces of tomato. The ravioli tasted like it wasn't filled with anything and the only taste I had was tomato so it felt like I was eating a plate of tomatoes. Another person ordered the fish which was also bland and in need of a sauce. The one dish that looked good was the $20 Burger (that is the actual name of the dish). My friend ordered that and said it was good but probably not worth making a special trip to this restaurant. This review is for the rooftop bar: great atmosphere for al fresco drinks where you can see all of Delmar Loop and (at least when I was there) you can WATCH THE MOON RISE ... AT THE MOON RISE HOTEL. Pretty cool. Came on a Friday night over Memorial Day Weekend with a friend; we indulged in $10 cocktails but also more reasonably priced $4 beers. FH and I stopped by the Eclipse to enjoy a few drinks and an app or two for some alone time in the midst of holiday family together-ness. The drinks were just okay... they have a nice list of signature cocktails, but we found them to be needlessly complicated. Methinks the Coco Chanel rule of style would apply here as well. Add as many ingredients as you want to the recipe, but always take one off before you go to print. We moved over to the dining room for some light dinner and we were not disappointed. The food was lovely, especially the duck loaf, which was really more like a big loose duck meatball or something like that. But VERY tasty. And the wine we got was also wonderful. I think next time FH and I are in the lou and looking for an elegant night out/break from our families, we will hit up the Eclipse again. read more

I loved Eclipse. It was perfectly convenient for me as I was staying in the Moonrise Hotel, which is the hotel it is part of. The rooftop deck is obviously the highlight of Eclipse, especially since it brings you closer to the moon than you ever thought possible. Of course, we're talking about the giant moon they have spinning at the top of the building. The atmosphere is the absolute best draw about this place. The drinks were great - when I got to the point of mild incoherence, I couldn't think of a drink and asked the bartender to make me something with St. Germain. Whatever he made was great. I also ordered a flat bread pizza with tomato sauce, chicken, zucchini, and cheese. It was pretty good. The only problem with it was that I had to share it with my friends. UGH. read more

We went here for breakfast after staying at the hotel, and it was very very good. We were one of two people there for breakfast, but it was also on a Thursday morning and there weren't any concerts the night before. I imagine they weren't all that busy. But our breakfast was fantastic! I had an omelette while my husband had the eggs benedict. And all of it was great! They serve Kaldi's Coffee, so that was a nice touch too. Our waitress kept my coffee cup full, though my husband's water did go empty for some time. We popped into this restaurant on a Monday night during a popular concert just next door at The Pageant nightclub. Happy hour was in motion and that part of the restaurant was popular with people. The restaurant was practically empty, but the ambiance was still inviting. We enjoyed a good beer while waiting for our food. The pretzel-coated fish was fresh and hot. I loved my two sides of garlic mashed potatoes and acorn squash - YUM. I recommend this place as a pre-concert destination. read more

This is try #2 and I strongly recommend that you stick with the basic', the real basic, i. e., a hamburger. Their cheese soup was huge, pasty and way too thick. My wife's Cobb salad was a bowl of lettuce with a few additives. My Puchutto ham was cut so thick and was so dry that it was im possible to cut! Service was attentive but sloppy. Such an amazing and fresh menu. My family and I really loved the Crab Cakes and Calamari. Plus that Whole Fried Snapper is SO GOOD. Our server Anthonette was lovely and Nell made our drinks that were delicious. Service may be a little slow, but that's understandable given the times. Others that are reviewing and eating out should try harder to be more understanding of what restaurants are dealing with right now. I went on a Tuesday as I was staying at the hotel so the restaurant and bar were empty; I could see how it could get busy though as it has an odd layout. The restaurant was clean. My waitress was kind and attentive. I'm glad I paid happy hour prices as my burger was just okay. Next time I'll venture out for something else. read more

I went here for lunch with my husband and a friend on a slow Sunday in September. The food was good, but pricey. Just a heads up--if you order the lettuce wraps you will pay $8 for 2 pieces of lettuce with about 3 tablespoons of filling. They tasted yummy, but was disappointed that there weren't enough for the 3 of us. I had the grilled cheese--it was delicious, and I had the watermelon gazpacho. It was refreshing and delicious as well. My husband had the salmon burger and it was OK--not bad, but nothing special. The service was OK, but the waiter could have been a bit more attentive. The atmosphere was nice. Love the loop and this place fits it. How would I improve it? Larger appetizers and more on the menu to choose from. read more

Went for brunch today. I was a little nervous since the place was empty at 11 on a Sunday but we had a great meal! Their version of avocado toast was tasty, build your own omelette looked a little well done but the hubby liked it, and the biscuits and gravy were delicious! Went here for Easter brunch. The food was really good. I enjoyed the omelet...tasty and not too thick. The fruit was fresh, bacon crispy, and sausage links were great. The salad was fresh. The roasted carrots and chicken were flavorful. The dessert tabl, which included Tiramisu, cherry pie, turtle cake, carrot cake and assorted cheesecakes were all good. They had a lot to choose from. The server was very attentive but not intrusive and I found the entire staff terrific. My only complaints were the food could have been warmer and they need to take outdated info on their website down. We were under the impression the cost/person was cheaper than what we were charged. When we asked about this we were asked if we could find that info. We did but it was outdated. So, long story short, we came to a compromise and our bill was reduced, but not to the advertised price we saw on the site. The food was really good but oddly the restaurant was only half full from 10:30-noon for Easter brunch, which is odd. Perhaps lowering their price would help. OK, so there are 2 things we all know about hotel restaurants...they're not great and they're overpriced. NOT THIS ONE! This might be the best breakfast in St. Louis. I was there this morning for the second time in 2 months. My eggs were cooked to perfection. The 3 very large sausage links are the best I've ever had. They told me there's no way to buy them direct. I didn't want toast or potatoes so they substituted a large fresh bowl of fruit. My wife's Eggs Benedict were unbelievably good. A breakfast we couldn't even finish was something like $12-13 per person. Most restaurants would charge close to $20 for less food. I hope they don't figure out how much to charge and I hope those of you reading this don't make it harder for me to get in next time. But I thought they deserved my endorsement. read more

Had a breakfast meeting this morning. Haven't been to Eclipse in quite awhile. They redesigned the restaurant. Fewer tables but a very comfortable space. Breakfast was excellent. My scrambled eggs and bacon were the best I have eaten in many months. Creamy eggs. Delicious, smokey, perfectly prepared bacon. And outstanding hash browns. My colleague had a huge, fluffy omelete and could only finish half of it. Plus the coffee was great, and my cup stayed full. Makes me want to return very soon. read more

I was blown away how good the food was for lunch at this 1st floor hotel restaurant. We had excellent service on a slow day. The tables are a bit close and I imagine the noise volume kicks up several notches when crowded, but I would defintely come back again just for the food. I went here for thanksgiving dinner by my lonesome. I didn't know what to expect as it was my first time here. I was pleasantly surprised. I saw at the bar and there was a large variety of liquor to choose from. And the ambiance/lighting was subtle, kind of romantic. I wish the 2 televisions were larger and I wish those 2 televisions were actually 3. Then it would have been perfrct. The two guys at the bar were very friendly and attentive and the TG buffet was hearty and delicious. I was surprised at the amount of variety available. I'm not a big eater and I had to got up twice just to try a bite of everything. There was so much to choose from. I didn't even get to try some of it. I will definitely return. This visit was a five star visit but I'm reserving that last star for when I return and try their regular food menu. read more

We just experienced the Thanksgiving buffet. The menu was nicely varied. The dishes were well seasoned, with some items a bit on the salty side. The carving station featured turkey and ham which were both moist and tasty. We will definitely be back to sample the regular menu. The desserts were passable. read more
