Extra Dry Tito's Martini with a Lemon Twist
    Steven B.

Once again, I arrived early for a reservation at The Preston. So I had time to kill and killed it at the Chase Club bar. It was Christmas and there were a lot of visitors drinking and eating at the Chase Club. I checked with the host before entering, to make sure it was okay for me to sit at the bar. He assured me, it was. I found a stool at the end of the bar and was quickly greeted by the bartender. My drink of choice is a, Tito's Extra Dry Martini with a Lemon Twist. I typically ask the bartender to, "make it skate". I forgot to make that request and to my surprise when my drink arrived, it had tiny ice chips floating across the top. Winner! My martini went down smoothly and I still had time to wait before my reservation. The lady next to me had a mimosa with grapefruit, so I had one of those, too. I also ordered their Pretzel Sticks. They were three super soft pretzels and came with a brown mustard and pub cheese. It was a good nosh to enjoy while drinking. The service was attentive and good for Christmas Day. We gotta be thankful for those who work on a holiday.

Update from 2017, still a strong Cocktail and Meal option inside of The Chase in CWE. This past Sunday, dropped in around 8p after attending an event and was able to grab a seat at the bar and quickly served. Buffalo Trace with splash of white soda and the Smashed Burger with fries. Burger came out really quickly and had the crispy edges just as it should. Cocktail and Meal was great, I finished it all!

Everyone enjoyed their meal. I enjoyed having the menu marked for gluten free. The Ruben, burgers, and steak salad were popular at our table. Party of 9, and the server was in training. There were obvious points in the service that were slow and not easy for the server. It was difficult to eat jalepeno on your sandwich and not have water in your glass. The over all atmosphere was cool and high end. Enjoyed our bar drinks and appetizers.

I'll admit I haven't been inside the chase since I was an adolescent. Randomly came here on a whim after visiting another establishment in the CWE. It is tucked away in part of the hotel. When we arrived yhr hostess greeted us with a smile and we asked if we could sit at the bar. She said it was okay and we proceeded to find two seats at the end. This was a Friday night and their was some live band playing some nice tunes in the corner of this place. The bartenders are nice and friendly. We ordered a sour whisky and a truly hard setzler. The drinks were nice and as the night went on this place became more busy and packed. Definitely will come back and try some of the food selections on the menu. As always until next time...

We were looking for a place to eat before seeing a friend's movie at the theatre, with limited time. Stumbled into this place and sat at the bar immediately. Nice ambiance, comfy bar stools and quick service. Ordered the Nachos and Fried Pickles and was surprised at how quick everything came out! We even had time for another beer before catching the movie.

Chase Club is a featured restaurant in the Chase Park Plaza hotel. I must say--the ambiance is amazing! We sat outside and had a beautiful view of the pool. Our service was also great. Our waitress was very friendly. The food itself is good, nothing spectacular. We felt like overall it lacked freshness. The menu features a wide variety of cuisines, so everyone will be able to find something. Everything tasted good but a few details were overlooked. I started with the Raspberry Riot ($16). It was a standard margarita. For food, I ordered the Shrimp and Pineapple flatbread ($15), which was tasty. The rest of my party enjoyed their food but nothing particularly stood out. If you're looking for a spot with a great ambiance, The Chase Club is a spot you want to visit!

I have stayed at this hotel before, and I found the other restaurant to have much better service. Although some wait staff were ok, my server was not very interested in me. The food was good, but the service ruined my experience. Preston, which is across the lobby, had much better service. I find it somewhat amazing considering my single bill was approximately $80.

The food was delicious. The service was subpar. Even with how not busy they were, service was so slow. It took 15 minutes for someone to come to the table. Dinner was $99 for 2 people (1 appetizer, 1 drink each, 1 meal each) Food was good, but there are better options out there. Worth a try.

What respectable luxury hotel bar would serve a $16 Manhattan in a plastic cup?! This place has really gone downhill and it's unfortunate as the atmosphere used to be great. I won't be returning next time I stay here. Service was rude and unwelcoming and the "glassware" speaks for itself.

Shockingly bad service & undercooked food. Unfortunately never saw a server after dropping off food so I wasn't able to send it back until the rest of my party was done eating & we were ready to leave, fries were 6/10 though.

Chase club for me was perfectly average. Just what you would expect from a hotel restaurant. The weather was great so we were sat on the patio. For the food, it lacked freshness. Just like many hotel restaurants it is a smorgasbord of flavors which is always 1) intimidating and 2) confusing. Is it italian, american, mexican, asian, etc. I was quite unsure of the intended direction of the menu. The food tasted good. It is a meal that gets the job done. You won't yearn to go back, and you won't remember the meal in 3 weeks. But, in the moment, the flavors are good and you're satiated. My friend ordered the smash burger with fries and there were 2 separate cuts of french fries which seemed strange. They came from 2 separate bags, lol. I got a CWE dip (french dip) and it was good. The bacon jam was an interesting addition. I can't decide if the sweetness it added was enjoyable. The pineapple and shrimp flatbread was another interesting dish. I thought the flatbread was good, but the crema with the feta I think was a miss for me personally. I did get a spring forward cocktail which was more balanced than expected. I did not anticipate the rye working with the cucumber that well. The raspberry riot (basically a raspberry margarita) was not balanced. Could have just been a fluke drink that did not quite get diluted enough or maybe an ingredient measurement was off. It tasted of straight tequila. The service was good. Our server was very nice, gave recommendations, and overall added a pleasurable ambience to our outdoor dining experience.

Despite that, the other tables seemed to receive constant attention while our waitress disappeared for long stretches of time. We were initially seated in the side room with a large industrial fan blowing so hard that it was moving the menus off the table. We waited for the waitress to return so we could request a different table, but she never came back, so we moved ourselves to another empty table away from the fan. She seemed unhappy about the move and told us we might have to relocate again because they were expecting a busy day. Honestly, the restaurant was empty, and we would have been finished long before any rush started -- which we were. I asked for ketchup with my burger, and it didn't arrive until after I had already finished eating. Overall, the service was very poor. Unfortunately, the food was also extremely salty -- and we're people who normally enjoy salt. I had the Farmhouse Burger with Brussels sprouts and mac and cheese, while my wife ordered the steak and fries cooked medium well. The steak came out medium rare, and both her fries and my burger and Brussels sprouts were overly salted. The one bright spot was the mac and cheese, which we took to go. My daughter tried some and said it was the best she'd ever had. To top it off, our bill came to an even $100 with tip, and all we had were waters and the items mentioned above. We had been wanting to try Retreat for quite a while, so this experience was very disappointing. Between the poor service and underwhelming food, we probably won't be coming back.

The only real warmth we encountered came from the female host; the rest of the staff delivered service that hovered somewhere between disinterested and "we're doing you a favor by being here." We kicked things off with the fried deviled eggs, which arrived neither fried nor particularly deviled -- just cold little reminders that hope is fleeting. Cocktails landed squarely in "General Public" territory. My Squatty Potty showed up lukewarm, like it had been loitering at the bar contemplating its life choices instead of making it to the table piping hot. A chicken Caesar salad was perfectly fine... if you enjoy playing hide-and-seek with the chicken. The breakfast burger came on an English muffin with what might be the most emotionally unavailable portion of hash brown casserole I've ever seen -- tiny, distant, and gone too soon. Then there's the Scream Burger. Marketed as ghost-pepper spicy, priced like it's the main event, and delivered with all the heat of a polite Midwestern handshake. Dry, bland, and somehow bold enough to charge me an extra dollar for more mayo -- because nothing says "premium burger experience" like a condiment upcharge to make it edible. My husband's Pork Pountine? Imagine fries sprinkled with a few bacon bits like confetti at a party nobody wanted to attend. We came in excited because Eat Crow in Soulard sets the bar high. I met here with members of a local running group for one of their periodic pub runs. It was extremely cold when I got there, despite having been nearly 90 degrees out the day before. Several members of our group stood in the doorway, preventing other patrons from entering and exiting. Modern's staff deserves credit for not complaining or forcing them to leave. They may have sensed that this wasn't the local unhoused population. Only employed people run recreationally, despite having relatively little free time. I see this place all the time, from my car on the adjacent highway, on my way back to civilization, but I'd never had the occasion to stop by. Perhaps I'd be a regular if I attended the nearby community college. But if I could afford to eat here, why would I be attending community college? The beer will set you back. I would have been fine with a 32 oz can of Miller High Life, but when in Rome. There's an extensive selection of beers on tap, and probably even more in cans and bottles. I'm no connoisseur, and I don't have that kind of time, so I went with something called Silent Gs, or something to that effect. I justified it, in part, by telling myself that its name is a reference to the Lil Wayne bar adored by people who started listening to rap music in 2003. I paid $7.50-ish for a not particularly large serving, but damn it if it wasn't pretty good. I appreciate it anytime one of these higher gravity pale ales doesn't taste like it was sourced from a trough-style urinal at a circa '83 ballpark. A couple of girls from the aforementioned run group mentioned that this place carries a brussels spouts salad. I don't eat salad, because I'm a guy, but these girls are certified baddies, and I succumbed to the peer pressure. I attempted to mitigate the impact on my reputation by also ordering a slice of pepperoni pizza. I'm gonna have to have a difficult meeting with my accountant, as a result, but it was worth it. The entree serving of the salad would have been enough food, even without the pizza. It's enough vegetables that it's actually kinda obnoxious, like they're trolling you. Who do they think I am, a damn cow? Part of that may have been the brussels sprouts. They help give the salad a surprising heft, for something that doesn't have any meat in it, and help make up for the lack of bacon, which I generally require with brussels sprouts. The candied walnuts, which I thought might be croutons, were another delightful surprise and complemented the tang of the pickled red onions. The pizza came topped with an oddly precise-looking quantity and arrangement of pepperonis, like they might have Russell Crowe from the movie A Beautiful Mind working in the kitchen. It's not like at Domino's, where they just toss them on there and they might not even be on half the pizza. I guess they have to do that when they sell it by the slice. You'd be upset if you didn't get enough of them, because they're delicious. They're the kind that curl up into little cups filled with disgustingly unhealthy and yet delicious oil. I wonder if that's also because they serve it by the slice and hence have to reheat it. That may have resulted in the end of the crust suffering from a bit of Popeyes biscuit-like dryness, but what are you going to do. Then again, that may have been a purposeful attempt to get you to purchase more expensive beer. Everything else here was so well executed, it's hard to imagine this wasn't intentional on their part.

We arrived right on time for our reservation, stood for quite a few minutes in a half-empty house before being seated, then waited a very long time between visits from our apparently over-stretched waitstaff. The first cocktail I chose wasn't available; nor was the first entree. I settled on the "red wine flight", and it arrived in three glasses. The server recited their names, but I didn't catch them. Food was middle of the road. A smoked sirloin sandwich was tasty, though rather well-done. And the order of "salmon cakes", which the menu says is made of "smoked salmon, roast corn, tomato, cucumber, creme fraiche, and capers" was in fact just one cake (not cakes!), smaller than a hockey puck (about 1/2" thick max) and seemed to be made of canned fish, not the bright orange of smoked salmon. It was accompanied by five thin slices of cucumber and three or four halved grape tomatoes. No corn, no capers. It was so boring, and an overpriced disappointment at $23. If this Bridge is actually closing and focusing on the event space, they've gone out with a whimper. The food- 3 of 4 of us said it was just ok. The other really liked theirs. We had 2 different pastas & 2 different sandwiches. Calabrian carbonara & citrus fettuccine. They were both kinda bland & not much flavor. Large portions. Wagyu reuben & smoked french. The reuben was a hit. The smoked french was too smoky. We had the pumpkin ricotta appetizer. It was pretty tasty. And the caesar was a large portion & decent flavor.
