Easy Tyger is definitely a nice switch up to the common tapa establishments around the Milwaukee area. With an Asian twist it was sure to be something I've never had. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The nice carmel lighting and antique-esq bar set the mood and the "open kitchen" that allowed us to see the chefs preparing food was a perk. My boyfriend and I order the pho egg roll, cucumber seaweed salad, beef short rib dumpling, and the special that day- a flank steak raman. The first two apps were delicious. The pho egg roll is a very innovative twist on the classic Asian soup. The seaweed salad followed suite but then the dumplings and Raman kinda fell flat. They by no means were ill prepared, they just didn't compliment the tastes we were looking for. We'd be willing to try a different dumpling and Raman the next time we dine in! read more

Man that ramen was bad. Poor design, poor execution, and staff were lazy, often talking to each other instead of doing their jobs. Service was very lackluster. The server spent more time explaining ramen to a ramen cook who has 7 years experience making it, than she did actually serving us, cooks looked sad and complacent which is never a good sign. There was an off kind of tension in the air which probably added to the discomfort. Sauce on the chicken was good but the chicken was dry, whoever designed the shoyu ramen for some reason decided to put weak chicken broth in a bowl where almost all the ingredients are stuff that pairs with pork. Kind of looked like the owner wanted some non pork options and thought simply switching out the broths was a good idea, but chicken with togarashi and steak of all things, no fish powder, overcooked half boiled egg, typical dried shiitake mushrooms that gave me a thought that can only be described as a question mark, nori that was stale and had no crunch on the dry parts. I actually thought the ingredients would work well with a pork femur broth and it's a shame they didn't just go hard pork and stick with their guns. Whoever thought chicken with soy and mushrooms, and beef was a good idea maybe should reevaluate their menu design unless they really nail every ingredient consistently. If you are going Tori maybe add a ship base, or cut ingredients and go for a simpler ramen. The best thing about chicken broth is it tastes clean, looks like gold, and is pretty good with just green onions, chashu, noodles, and menma. Simply adding stuff to a dish doesn't make it better. The menma was typical jfc vacuum sealed in a water brine, no attempt to season them. Noodles were actually cooked perfectly, but they weren't drained well and the first thing I noticed in the soup was the heavy alkaline taste, which is a very basic ramen no no, and would have ruined the dish by itself but I had so many issues with this ramen that it's considerably lower on the list. Cooking is about pairing and building flavors but when the ingredients fight each other you have a bad dish. Menu was all over the place, some Korean, some Japanese, some Chinese. I don't judge on fusion confusion but it is telling that the concept was either a hodgepodge or the owner doesn't know what they're doing. If you have to try and reach for a lot of markets it dampens the niche you fill in your specific idea, and shows a lack of both creativity and drive. At the end I think the three star rating was more out of respect for the owner and staff as hospitality workers, than anything as the ramen was one of the worst bowls I've had in the states. Everyone makes mistakes and they should be able to recover from it and it's not my job to crap on their ratings when it's stuff they can fix. Reevaluate what you are going for, hire good staff and control the environment. If someone is paying $15+/person the least you can do is serve good food and be attentive, especially if they are the only table in the place. read more

I've been here before and dined in. It was a good experience and the shrimp tempura appetizer was delicious. Last week I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen, it was great and picking it up was quick and easy. I would have given a 5 star review but the bowl given for the broth is too small to support both the amount of ramen thats given and the broth without over spilling. I came in thinking it would be authentic and delicious just based on the reviews but it didn't meet my expectation at all. The soup which is the essence of ramen was bland. I tried only their vegetarian ramen, with burnt corn. It has a strong but nice flavor of cumin. I assume broth is also vegetarian. For a vegetarian dish, I felt that this would be as good as it gets. It's chic yet casual decor made it inviting and we were pleased to get one of the window booth seats to people watch. They had their ramen and beer (it was a beer from Singapore and they actually went nicely together) for $10 deal and it was perfect. My friend who was with me is known for being a bit of a picky eater and it was her first time having ramen. She asked (politely of course) for no eggs and to leave out a vegetable or two and I think the server was annoyed with us after. Stopped in on a Thursday night and were seated right away. This place did a great job with the remodel, exposing the brick and they created a bar area that was very inviting and perfect for grabbing a drink and a small bite to eat with friends. Service was very attentive and recommendations were very helpful. We ordered pig ear nachos which were so tasty, could have devoured the plate myself! Then duck pastrami which had great flavor, and Jerk Pork which came with coconut rice and curry plaintains that accompanied the pork very well. Scallops were cooked perfect, the sauce was a tad spicy for me but my boyfriend highly enjoyed it. Steamed buns, by far our favorite item, melt in your mouth good with pickles and spicy mayo! Pork belly and clams, the clams and broth were outstanding but the pork belly was a tad salty to me. Finally we finished things off with the chocolate tart and salted caramel purple door ice cream, chocolate tart was oh so good, rich but not over powering, paired perfectly with the ice cream. My husband and I went for brunch at Easy Tyger on the first day of their doing brunch. There's always a great deal of risk to be had in this sort of position, but we came away from the experience with extremely positive impressions. He got the Brioche French Toast and I got the Frittata. We shared a House-made Breakfast Sausage plate. Everything was very good, but what really stood out, in our opinions, was the french toast. I had to encourage him to get it because he doesn't like pear and wasn't sure about how the pear would go with the toast. I would've gotten it, but I don't generally like french toast as a rule. In the end, we ended up practically fighting over it. The bread was perfectly done, the bourbon pear, in addition to its unique flavor, added an interesting texture to each bite. The crème fraîche was nothing short of perfect and brought the entire thing together in magnificent harmony. You don't even need to add syrup to it, but syrup was provided. Having been so fixated on the french toast, it's somewhat more difficult to review the other dishes. I will say that everything was well-executed and tasty, but I definitely know what I'll be getting time and time again when we go to Easy Tyger for brunch. So, just as I'm not normally a french toast person, I'm even less of a dessert person, especially after brunch. However, having experienced the french toast, I had high hopes for their other bakery-like items, which I verified are all made in-house. My husband is a huge aficionado of all things lemon and has a very high standard for such things. He also doesn't typically like lemon tart, but we ordered Easy Tyger's lemon tart with relish. We were not disappointed. The lemon was tangy, not too sweet, very flavorful and reminiscent of a bowl of fresh lemons. Somehow, even with the bold flavors of the lemon filling, the crust asserted its own milk flavor. It was magnificent. Overall, Easy Tyger is an extremely welcome addition to Milwaukee. I consider myself very fortunate that it's appeared in my immediate neighborhood. We'll definitely be back again and again for lunches, dinners and brunches in the future. read more

The remodel and decor of this place is very on point, nice art, beautiful wood features and long bar. The bathrooms actually are some of the best in the city, well decorated, gorgeous sink, and I love when bathrooms have free feminine products, so thoughtful. They also have lotion and mints in the bathroom. The place is new and it is evident that they do not have everything ironed out. The sign outside said happy hour 3-6 so we went and sat at the bar, the bar tender got us drinks and then after we were drinking them he was like, "oh actually I just talked to the manager and we don't have happy hour on weekends and actually we are not even open." I was like "waaaaaaa, well can we stay or no?" He said we could but we could not order food for an hour. Not sure the food was worth the wait. We had four dishes. The steam beef buns were the best, and the pigs ears nachos were pretty good too. Being cuisines from around the world, one would think they would be packed with unique flavors, but the dishes were not. Flavors were mild and and a bit ordinary. The part I did not like is the portions. I mean I get it is small plates, but come on. For 50 bucks and 4 plates (shared) I should be at least kinda full. I made the joke after dinner that we should stop at dog haus on the way home. Also they only had one cider on the menu and it was a shitty one, so that bummed me out too. If you start with dessert, pick whatever has pickled jalapeño. You won't regret it. Some restaurants specialize in one or two cuisines. Some try to perform well all over the map- and most that do so are a master at none. Easy Tyger is the rare exception. Not everything was amazing, and one dish was sent back to the kitchen, but most of what we tried was top tier and how our server Gabrielle and (un-requested) manager (?) quickly apologized and moved on- allowed the short distraction to not disrupt an otherwise enjoyable evening. Piri Piri wings had a great spice and flirtatiously messy. My sister and I enjoyed sucking our fingers in between each one. Suppli: subtle flavor and great combination of textures. Farro Bimbop- a top choice- light and vinegary with a nice bite. The egg and kimchi balanced the dish nicely. I'd eat the Grilled Halloni salad everyday if I could. Not a traditional Greek salad, but absolutely delicious. I won't share next time. You should only stop in here with people you really like. I've dined at Easy Tyger a couple times now, and have always enjoyed my food. Last time we were here we ordered moscow mules. They were delicious - even though they don't have any copper mugs. All their options for food are pretty small plates - and they add up quickly. My favorite are the bao buns - they come on the amazingly airy and chewy buns with various toppings available. I have tried all three options (beef brisket, fried chicken and tofu) and my favorite go in that order. The tofu is too soft for my liking, I like it with a bit of a crust on it - and the chicken is all dark meat and sometimes gets too chewy. The brisket it killer. I have also tried the pho egg roll, which was good. I would REALLY like this a lot more if it was fresh instead of fried - it included steak, rice noodle, bean sprouts, basil and lime. A larger plate we got was the fried brussels sprouts - SO GOOD! There was a spicy-ish vinaigrette, whole roasted garlic cloves, golden raisins, cashews and parmesan. This plate was killer - but beware, it is super greasy. The dumplings are good - different than I've ever had before. They are situated in a shallow broth and have a little pile of puree on the bottom. The pasta part of the dumpling gets a little slimy as it starts to disintegrate, so eat it quickly - very good. We enjoyed the beef shortrib option this time. Lastly we LOVE the ramen here. We've always ordered a few small plates and split the ramen. They have miso daily, and as a special on certain days have a tonkatsu. The noodles are always cooked perfectly - so good. This is a fun place to come, sit on the street and people watch - I'll keep it in my rotation. read more

We walked in on a Tuesday evening and was seated immediately by a friendly hostess. This Asian fusion restaurant has a modern and artsy Asian aesthetic and intimate dim lighting, which makes it a hip space to be in. For starters, we had the fried chicken bao (buns, for the uninitiated) and the porky belly bao. They were decent. The quality of the pork belly meat was mediocre (good pork belly has a good ratio of lean meat to fat; this one was a little on the lean side) and the rest of the garnishes (a sweet sesame sauce, some mayo-like sauce, and slightly pickled veggies) were tasteful but not amazing. I felt like the balance of the garnishes could have been better. We also had their okinomiyaki fries, which were french fries tossed in a mix of sweet sesame sauce, mayo, chopped green onion and what I am assuming are strips of fried wheat flour that is supposed to resemble the savory japanese pancake. While satisfying, the fries are filling and could serve as a meal in and of itself. Lastly, we both ordered the Tonkatsu ramen. It's important to note that I am a ramen snob. I have eaten ramen all over the world, including in Japan, where I spent a whole summer working all over the country. The Tonkatsu ramen at Easy Tiger is a bit of a letdown. The broth is watery and does not have the depth of flavor that a hearty bowl of Tonkatsu should have. For a bowl of ramen close to $13, authentic Japanese ramen stew their broth with pork bones for many hours (with some establishments even stewing overnight) in order to achieve that rich, pork flavor of Tonkatsu. This bowl did not have anywhere near the consistency and richness of good quality Tonkatsu, and thus I think charging $13 is not justified. I would say this would be a $10 bowl, at best. Asian fusion, especially at the higher end as this establishment is trying to market itself as, is increasing in popularity among mainstream consumers, as evidenced by the clientele at Easy Tyger. The risk of this is the temptation for establishments to capitalize on this craze and charge prices that I believe are not consistent with the quality presented here. Go to Easy Tyger if you want a fun night out with friends over some appetizers, small bites and some japanese beer/drinks. If you want good ramen, there are better options in the downtown Milwaukee area. read more

Ordered the tonkotsu ramen. Pork broth lacks that good pork flavor. Too much ginger and green onion. Noodles were hard even after letting it sit in the broth which was served lukewarm to begin with. The chili oil has no chili which was disappointing because when I asked for extra, it was just oil - I really enjoy spice. The pork belly in the ramen was delicious I'll give it that. Chose this spot because I was craving late night ramen. Went in an hour before close so I assume this may be why the food was subpar and the service was short. However, service and food quality shouldn't change just because of the time of day - coming from a restaurant hospitality worker. Overall, this restaurant is okay.
