Spring rolls

The place is nice, nice ambiance, our waitress Andrea kept rolling her eyes every time we asked something, not a great waitress. The food was very good albeit a bit small for the price, $18 for a rice bowl that was small.

Came here for a Thursday night dinner! Most everywhere else in Birmingham had an hour+ wait for dinner, but EastWest had no wait! I'd never been here before, but had been excited to try it out! The atmosphere is similar to the other restaurants on 2nd Ave, and I love the mural in the back. I love a short menu, the menu here is the perfect length. Just one side of a sheet of paper. We tried the cauliflower to start, the flavor was amazing but the fry could have been a little bit crispier. My friend ordered the salmon plate for dinner, which I had a bit of and was INCREDIBLE. I'd definitely order that next time. I had the Mongolian beef bowl, which hit the spot, but did leave a little bit to be desired. I wasn't particularly wowed by the flavor or sear on the beef itself. Service was ok. I'll definitely come back here. The price and ambiance are right for a weeknight winter dinner out. Parking can be a little bit tricky around here. Most street parking was full and we ended up parking in a paid lot behind Neon Moon.

East West is always a faithful option. The wings are my favorite and they are always fresh, good and just right. I paired it with salad which they must have changed and it was also amazing. Also tried the shrimp rice bowl and it was delicious as well. It's really nice date night spot and they do take reservations. It was quiet Thursday night, so we walked right in and sat. Only regrets was not more time to be able to spend there!

We had a good experience at EastWest. The service was friendly and attentive, and the ambiance felt casual and welcoming. Reservations are highly recommended since it's a smaller space. There's no valet, so plan for street parking or one of the nearby paid lots. The rustic décor, exposed brick, hardwood floors, and café chairs, gives it a warm, energetic feel. With all the hard surfaces, it can get a bit lively, so it's not the easiest spot for quiet conversation. The fried cauliflower was the standout for me. We also ordered the blistered shishito peppers, short rib bao, and duck nachos. The short rib was a little lean and slightly tough for my taste, though my friend really enjoyed it. The duck nachos were fine, just not especially memorable despite being a server recommendation.Overall, it was a pleasant evening, and I'd happily return if friends wanted to meet there. With so many great dining options in Birmingham, I may not rush to put it at the top of my list; but it's certainly a solid choice for a relaxed night out.

Glad I finally got to try this place out. Food was tasty, service was ok and the ambiance is very nice. The cauliflower appetizer was SO good. I had a few pieces that didn't have sauce which weren't that tasty but the ones with sauce? Delicious. My salmon was very crispy and the sauce that came on it was good. The Parmesan risotto tasted a bit starchy but overall everything was solid.

This was a nice spot. It was my first time here. I ordered the appetizers for my meal-wings and spring rolls. The spring rolls were amazing. The wings had a different taste than your normal wings but they were good as well

Chicken and bubble waffles. Asian approach very tasty syrup.

The food never misses and you can count on a nicely seasoned meal with any option. You can rent the room upstairs for events and service is good. If you're looking for a punchy tequila cocktail Mr. West will get the job done. One of the best steaks in Bham and definitely recommend the Magnolia Ribeye.

Spicy shrimp noodles

I have been wanting to go here for a while. Finally went with hubby. We were seated right away; no waiting. The murals in the wall were pretty. I liked the variety in the menu. My husband had the teriyaki chicken bowl with pineapple kimchi and I had the spicy shrimp noodles. The portion size was smaller than expected especially for the prices.

The food, the service, and the decor was all a MF vibe!!! They effortlessly accommodated our large party of 15 and got all the individual checks accurate. The food was delicious and affordable. I tried the Osaka spritz, chicken lettuce wraps, and the Mongolian beef bowl.

Spicy garlic noodles with extra gulf shrimp

Edit: Shortly after posting this review, the owner directly messaged me to say that I don't how garlic noodles should taste (I'm of Asian descent by the way). I will include this in my review so my fellow Yelpers are aware of how the business responds to negative feedback. I had high hopes for EastWest after browsing the Yelp page and walking into the nicely decorated restaurant to pick up my to go order, but unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. The prices are outrageously high for what you get -- the food quality and taste do not justify the cost at all. I ordered the spicy garlic noodles with gulf shrimp (and requested extra shrimp for additional $8), but it was absolutely not worth it. The portion size was shockingly small, leaving me hungry and frustrated. Even after requesting my dish to be extra spicy, the flavor was bland and underwhelming. There didn't seem to have any presence of garlic or spice. I couldn't believe how lackluster the dish was. For what they charge, I expected so much more in terms of both quality and taste. Would definitely not recommend and won't be coming back.

The perfect way to end a good night at eastwest! People are usually here for the wings on Wednesday that's 6 dollars, but I come for the desert. 10/10

Ask the Community - EastWest

Does EastWest have room to host a party of 7?

Hello Vanessa. What time and day are you inquiring about? With a party of that size we recommend you arrive early and not during peak hours. Let us know and we will be happy to help you out in anyway possible.

I see that the restaurant isn't necessarily recommended for kids, but would a 16 yr old be ok to come with us?

100%. It is not a good place for anyone under the age I would say 14 or so. If they eat just about anything they would love it. If they insist on eating chicken fingers and fries, it may not be the best fit for them. My brother is 16 and he only… Read more

Does east west have private parking?

I have seen private parking available in a lot next to the building. It is a little sketchy at night but I have always parked there!

Does EastWest offer any gluten free options and if so, what?

Not many GF options, but the cook and staff were accommodating and modified a dish to make it work since they were out of the one main GF option.

These are real deal professionals who illustrate just how important the people in a restaurant's front truly are. The food? Delicious. It's a wild grab bag of East Asian fare - Chinese, Japanese, Thai - and it's all done extremely well. The portions are small, which is good, since you'll want to try half a dozen things on Current's very deliberately thought-out menu. The Peking Duck is some of the best I've had. The cocktails are also excellent, with my favorite being a delicious, earthy combination of coconut, lime, and pandan. It's like an extremely upscale tiki drink. I cannot recommend this place enough.
