For the past couple of years I have been dealing with the prospect of getting my leach lines repaired and was saving up money in case I needed a new leach field. After asking around and getting no real recommendations I hired Earls Plumbing based on their Yelp reviews. So James told me it would be "No more than 300.00" To dig up the septic tanks and use a camera to find what was wrong in the field and this included jackhammering up the sidewalk. After they destroyed my back yard with the concrete they said I had NO leach field and they would need to install one so they hired a septic pumper, a backhoe to dig up my back yard for the county to inspect and wanted to put a leach field in. I hired a friend to keep digging and in FIFTEEN minutes he found the leach field that took Earls TWO days to not find. It dawned on me after they had done all this "how could I NOT have a leach field for all these years of having a septic tank?" In the end Earls wanted to charge me 1387.00 for something they said would cost more than 300.00. I am pretty sure that James took the pipe leading from the tank to the leach lines when he dug up my ground so I would believe him that there was no leach field. I had a real plumber who Is Randy from Precision (awesome guy) to connect the septic to the leach field and it was less than 200.00 Earls was trying to get me to put in a new leach field when I had a perfectly operating one and charge me over 7000 more than originally quoted.. With all the great reviews I called Earl's. The fellows that came out were wonderful and sounded very knowledgable. Rather than simply putting in my new fixtures (replacing old ones) they told me the kit did not come with everything. Having just spent almost $1,000 on a bath tub and bathroom sink fixture this seemed odd that everything would not be there. That after noon I received my estimate to replace the old with the new...$675. I called another equally known service in Chico and they also serviced my area. They came out spent less than an hour; found all the pieces and charged me $175!! I do think Ryan's estimate for Earl's was CRAZY. This is not acceptable. read more

I had miscellaneous problems with the sprinkler system and the kitchen sink. I called Earls Plumbing based on their many positive reviews and I declare, their service was greater than I expected, Jason and Nate went above and beyond my expectations, checking out my entire system, even repaired a minor faucet leak in the master bath at no extra charge. They also found that the pressure regulator had failed, allowing excessive water pressure which would likely cause leaks in the home. The staff and employees are friendly. However, I am very unsatisfied with the cost. I had a small pin hole in a copper line that needed repair. I assumed they would charge me $95 per hour plus parts. They billed me by project at $295. I asked the plumber to reduce the price, however he stated they bill by project. The plumber was at my house for about 45 minutes total. I would not recommend Earl's plumbing based on price. I feel like they overcharged me for their service. read more

We recently called Earl's out to assist us with an underground water leak at a multi-family property. First they bid us $2,800 to just repair a fully-exposed 2" pipe (the cost excludes digging - so their bud was just to repair a leak which we identified for them). When we questioned the propriety of the amount they then came back with a lower bid (no change in scope) of $1,800. Right there was our first sign that we weren't dealing with honest professionals. We agreed with the $1,800 as we had no other timely options and their crew stood there for another few hours doing nothing as we cleared enough access space for them to apply the fix (again, they refused to do any digging). Once we excavated enough to their liking they then began working only to inform us they didn't have the necessary parts to fix the pipe as they just realized it was steel pipe where they previously thought it was plastic. At that point we told them to leave. First they tried to extort us with an unreasonably high bid since they knew we were desperate. then they showed other incompetence when, despite the fact they were onsite for hours, they became aware they couldn't fix it. We called the home office attempting to speak with a supervisor when we were informed by the dispatcher that the foreman on site was the highest we could go. We have had them engaged at another property we manage for service - we will be cancelling that service. They did not conduct themselves with honesty and integrity. read more

I had a sink issue in the kitchen and was quoted one price to clear it. The job ended up being more involved than initially thought and the price was not changed. Matt was great - he tried everything possible to open the drain and was able to get it functioning. Then he explained to me the options and the rationale for each one. Just wanted to let everyone know how very happy I was with the service provided by Earl's Plumbing. They called and we selected a day and time to come to the house and they were promptly at my door when they said they would. The plumber, Dennis Robbins, was quick to pin point the problem that was caused by the previous plumbing company, and contacted our warranty company. The faulty toilet was replaced and Dennis was quite tidy by wrapping the old toilet in a black plastic bag to remove from the house and not cause any more mess. Earl's plumber Dennis gave us excellent customer service and even sent us a " thank you card". Rip Off! They charged $500 for a kitchen faucet replacement about a year ago. I was under pressure to accept the work since it was for a rental and our tenant was temporarily stuck with out water in the kitchen. They said "lifetime warranty" on the faucet set up which included the spray hose. Recently tenant called and said no water is coming out of the kitchen faucet only out of the spray hose so it appears that maybe the diverter switch in the spray hose is stuck on. I called Earl's and they confirmed that yes faucet is under warranty and they will send out a plumber to check it out. "Scott" calls me and gives me this BS that they can't honor the warranty because there is hard water causing the problem and they "don't warranty the water." He says "$198 to replace the spray nozzle !!! but that will only be a temporary fix since you really need to replace all the piping in the kitchen." All the homes in the north Chico area have hard water by the way so if Earl's was honest they would tell you up front that their products won't be warrantied because they don't "warranty the water". What a freakin joke and a rip off. Will never use Earl's again and neither should you. AND to top it all off my tenant bought a spray nozzle replacement at Home Depot for $9.59 and screwed it on himself in a 5 minute repair job. Earl's wanted to charge me $198 for that on a part that SHOULD have been under warranty. read more

My wife and I needed a number of plumbing jobs done in our home in Paradise. Being mostly disappointed with other plumbing companies in the past we decided to give Earl's Plumbing a try. In a word, they were GREAT". The plumber who came out, Jordan Buchanan, was highly competent, totally professional and very skilled. He took the time and patience to listen to every one of our concerns and described in detail how he would go about doing the repairs. We were so satisfied with the results that we signed up for annual maintenance agreement with Earl's Plumbing. If we could have awarded them "six stars", they would have gotten them. read more

Do NOT hire this company for any of your plumbing needs. They tried charging me over $200 just to repair a toilet! A friend of mine told me of an elderly woman who was completely taken. I contacted another plumbing business, and they shared that Earls has a horrible reputation for this, and after 30 years of living in Chico, believe me you can get quality work done at a much, much better price. Earl's was sent to our house via our home warranty to fix a whole house plumbing blockage. Chaz was the technician sent by Earl's to address the issues we were having. He seemed to actually care about fixing the problem as though it was his own. Chaz was helpful, professional and went above and beyond what I have seen past technicians do. It is not often that I experience such excellent service. I would strongly recommend using Chaz with Earl's Performance Plumbing for your plumbing needs. We having other plumbing issues of which are not covered by our home warranty. We will first be asking Earl's Performance Plumbing to take a look a the job because Chaz has left such a good impression. Brian was polite and careful. It took him about 10 minutes to change the cartridges in our bathroom faucets. Everything was in perfect order. And he was very nice. I think Earl's prices are high and the $12 fuel surcharge is a bit much. Last year when the yearly maintenance was done, I asked the plumber to clean out a clogged sink drain. I understood that would have to be paid for. Even though he was here for a pre-paid annual maintenance, there was a fuel surcharge, I suppose because I asked for the extra service. Today's service was excellent but I still am not too pleased with the cost and the fuel surcharge. For that reason I'm rating it A-OK. read more

Consider Earl's Plumbing for lawn sprinkler problems because they take care of landscape plumbing issues also. I had a broken PVC pipe in my lawn; after two wasted weeks calling the so-called landscape sprinkler businesses around Chico (who either never returned my calls or just stalled), I contacted Earl's. To my gratified amazement, they sent a technician out the very next day. I was quite impressed with Ryan's professionalism, know-how, and industry. He went right to work, digging a big hole in concrete-like soil on a 100 degree day, and repairing the busted pipe in no time flat. He even replaced a faulty valve on another circuit while he was here. Can't say enough good things about this outfit. If you need lawn sprinkler repair, don't even bother with the landscape/sprinkler repair guys in the Yellow Pages. Call Earl's first! read more

Just wanted to take some time to let everyone know what a great plumber we had come out to our house and do some troubleshooting and fix our problem. Travis came out to our new home ( on time) and went to work. First asking questions then trobleshooting on his own. He found the problem and solved the issue. My initial experience with Earls was very positive, so much that I attempted to use them for my property management business. We used them for a service call and it was four times higher than we normally pay. When we tried to find out why it was so high they claim to have used a camera to snake the lines. Having dealt with numerous plumbing companies before, we asked for a copy of the video. They told us we had to pay extra for that and they didn't save it. Our tenant told us that the technician mentioned he didn't have his camera on him that day. When I talked to their customer service staff they told me they would look into it and get back to me but we have never heard back from them since. read more

We called Earl's for an irrigation leak, after we had called a so-called sprinkler expert twice and he hadn't returned our calls. Frank came out, and he seemed to know everything about irrigation systems. He had to dig in the mud, on a very hot day, to diagnose the problem (a cracked 1" water line) and kept a sense of humor throughout! He came back the next day to do the repair. He also recommended maintenance on our tankless hot water heater, which we hadn't had done in the 10 years we've had it, so we had him do that as well. Frank was personable and efficient, and we will definitely call Earl's Plumbing again. read more

Do not call Earls! Call a company that will do the job. This is a big box company that has a flat rates that can cost you $100+ dollars for doing 10 minutes worth of work. I was charged $195 for 1 hour worth of "work". He tried to snake my clogged pipe and had ZERO Success. Next he wanted to cut a hole in my Sheetrock and charge me an additional charge but again there was no gaurantee. Prior to the plumber leaving my house he wanted me to have my septic system pumped which I did not think was the problem. I called the septic pumping system company to come out and I was correct. They said the septic system was not full. I wasted $300 to get it pumped. In the meantime I had to stay at a hotel with my family on Friday evening because we couldn't flush the toilet nor did we have the ability to take showers because the tubs and showers will not drain. They said they would send a tech out the next morning. The person arrived at 6:30 PM in the evening (not the morning). He stayed 17 minutes and then told me he couldn't do it. He was lazy and attempted no work whatsoever. They said they would come back first thing in the morning. This started Friday morning and is now Sunday. The person was there a very short amount time and try snake it and unclogged it instantly. Earls cost me $200 for their service, $300 for my septic to be emptied which it didn't need, and a few hundred dollars in hotel and eating out breakfast, lunch and dinners and lost a whole weekend at my house because they couldn't snake the for three days! Do yourself a favor and call a owner operated company where they actually care for you to do the job correct. read more

Had Earls come out to check on the balky tankless hot water heater in the house I just bought in Redding. The service technician was on time and prepared and knew exactly what was wrong as soon as I told him what was going on and he had inspected the unit. He gave me me clear options and prices for extending the life of the unit or replacing it now. He also showed me how to use it in a more effective way now. I elected to do nothing now in the hope that it will die while my home insurance policy is in effect. I was not charged for the house call. I will use Earl's again and recommend you give them a call too. read more

I was very impressed with Earl's Performance Plumbing. A representative called and said that Jason would be to my house in approximately 15 minutes. Jason showed up shortly thereafter and went right to work on the problem. The problem was outdoors and a bit messy but he took care of it immediately. They came quickly which is why they get two stars. Had a broken supply pipe into my house so pretty desperate. Charged off a price schedule with nothing to do with how easy or hard job was. Really expensive. $350 to patch a PVC pipe. Offered me their service package at $99 per year where they drain your water heater. I passed. Asked if he could check my water heater and then told me it was reaching the end of its useful life. It's six years old. Didn't know how to repressurize the pressure tank and said something was wrong with my pump. I showed him how to do it. Wish Able Plumbing had been available. read more

Well they did show up fast. But they talked too fast also. I had a line that broke behind my toilet and was spraying everywhere. I got it turned off and then contacted them to replace it. I was told that a fully stocked truck would show up and give me a price before he started. They did, and while he was there I asked him to fix the dripping faucet. Charles was prompt, professional and communicated in a manner that I completely understood the pros and cons of taking care of a minor water blockage problem. Although I was quite pleased with his customer service, I was later told the issue with parts included could have possibly been done for less. Overall, I found my experience with Charles and his problem solving ability to be well worth what may possibly have been above market value.
