Great burgers with tons of fries. We also had the chicken wings as an appetizer which were loaded (LOADED) with blue cheese crumbles - very tasty and a nice twist to regular spicy wings. I went here for breakfast with a friend and was sadly disappointed. As soon as we walked in it smelled a bit like urine. The bathrooms are near the entrance so it could be excused. The service was poor from there. Our waitress took quite a while to come to our table and when our food finally arrived, it wasn't good. My friend ordered the Mexican skillet, took two bites then couldn't eat anymore. My eggs were a bit brown for some reason so I skipped eating them. My French toast was quite good but the overall experience at this establishment was ruined due to our entire order being cold to include the hot tea. read more

Great place to hang with friends and have a HUGE glass of one of the several beers and ciders on tap! Nachos and hot wings are a must, but their pizzas are also great! The food is good and it's a fun atmosphere. The room upstairs that you can rent out is great for events! Just an all-around solid place. The food is typically pretty good, but the service can be a bit inconsistent. Definitely seems like the busier they are the faster the food comes out. There have been a couple times I've had to wait an hour and a half waiting for my food when there were only 6 other people in the whole restaurant. The good: 1) The beer selection. Rotating and seasonal offerings. Pitchers, mega-steins, pints... The staff is knowledgeable about their beers. 2) The decor. Recently remodeled for them with open ceilings and modern fixtures. Looks great! 3) The specials at lunch: Salad, soup, and slice. Or any combination of the three. Very, very affordable and served in a hurry. It's the only thing I order there anymore. The ok: 1) Feels "crowded" even when it's not. Some of the tables are so close together someone two tables away can still sneeze on your pizza. It's like a maze trying to get to your seats. 2) Some of the burgers are on-par with any would find elsewhere (nothing special) but their menu does have breakfast items and other "hidden treasures". The nachos are freaking huge, but never order the half order (it's not half the price). The bad: Sorry, guys. It's your service. 1) The wait staff. Some of them are very good, others not so much. Expect long waits for food and service. Or just sit at the bar where they are much quicker. 2) I'm old-school: if you just had a 4:20 break, you should have got off work at 4:19. Being forgetful, having red eyes, and smelling like Cheech and Chong's van should not be acceptable for waitstaff. 3) 85% of the time, orders have been messed up. I've been there 6 or more times. That's an 85% chance per person. When you are there with 3-6 people, it's pretty bad when more than half don't get their orders right. 4) I remember one time I was there with a party of seven. All drinking beer and eating. Of course we had the 85% chance of our orders being wrong (which they were). We requested napkins THREE TIMES. Each time the happy pot-head disappeared to get them (he could have got them out of his apron but,,,) they never materialized. So the table was completely swamped with condensation. read more

Eagle River Ale House has the best burger in ANC/ER! As good , if not better than Tommy's. I am a seasonal contractor and whenever I am in ER, I try to come by at the end of the day. It's not the cheapest burger or appetizer, but the quality and PORTION more than make up for it. Also, best fries in ANC/ER. You can't go wrong. Can't speak for the pizzas, cause I can't get past the burgers. Staff is great, and I speak from a "regularJoe" perspective. I don't get here offer enough for the staff to recognize me. My only complaint is I'm watching lacrosse and soccer instead of baseball. But, I'll they are happy to put baseball on a screen when I ask. read more

If I could, I would have given this establishment a zero. They refused to give me a beer because they couldn't figure out my out of state license was a real one. They admitted it was a real ID and refused to serve me alcohol because they just received their liquor license. They are more worried about themselves instead of their customers! read more

This used to be the best pizza in town until they remodeled and put in a new Pizza oven. Now the pizza is just average, they changed the crust and now make the pizzas smaller. Service is usually just average. The waitress called me "Sweetie", and brought me the wrong wine. The new wine bar is hokey. Who wants to buy a wine card and use it in a machine to dispense wine when the same wine is on the menu. Although, I might have gotten what I wanted dispensing it myself. They do have a great selection of beer. The new art by a local artist is a nice touch. The place is still very noisy. I will still come in for a burger and salad now and then but they put Pizza Man at the top of the list for the best pizza in Eagle River since their change in crust. read more

This was, hands down, the least enjoyable experience of eating out in my life. First big mistake: We chose to eat here. A group of 7 of us walked in and asked to put our name on the list. The hostess told us 20 minutes. We did not get seated for over an hour as we watched groups of 4, 5, and 6 get seated first - despite having come in after us. You might let groups of 2 and 3 go first, but for bigger groups, you learn to accomodate and you push tables together. If you cannot seat a group of that size, don't pretend like you can. Second big mistake: We ordered beers during our standing time. The beer was good. The bartender, however, took over 5 minutes to get to us, and when she came back with our beers, 2 were poured with 3/4 foam. Another 5 minutes later, and one finally got a re-pour. Third big mistake: We ordered food. 2 pizzas and 2 salads at a pizza joint shouldn't be rocket science. However, for the length of time this particular restaurant took, I wonder if they might actually make the dough from scratch for EVERY pizza order. We waited over another hour to get our pizza and salad (that is long enough to let dough rise, walk out to the closest farm to trim your own lettuce, then come back and spin a crust, then bake it). Fourth big mistake: We paid for our food. When the mediocre pizza and the shabby salad came, we were already disappointed...but at least we had a few beers to get our emotions under control. If you serve a $14 salad, please load it with ingredients. I think each ingredient had a tablespoon's worth in the salad. Having worked in a kitchen before, a $10 salad uses a quarter cup scoop. The only success of the night was that the waitress didn't mess anything up. Unfortunately, all she is responsible for is bringing ordered food from point A to point B. Good for her. She might actually go places. This restaurant, however, should go under or get new management ASAP. Never again will they get any of our service, and I wouldn't risk wasting your time or money unless you order to go. read more

Have been here a handful of times, but my visit Sunday was a true disappointment. Our server was Reggie, be warned. As soon as we were seated he told us the kitchen closed in 15 minutes. (BTW, no hours posted but the OPEN sign was bright above the door.) No problem, we had been there before and knew what we wanted; I got the usual, angry orchard, loaded cheese fries and prime rib sandwich. Yum! Unfortunately I had to ask for a refill on the water, then ended up getting some myself after our server visited the table but didn't remember to bring a pitcher with him. We had the check and to-go boxes thrust upon us before we had our food 10 minutes and the plates were not even half empty. Had to ask 3 times (nicely) for a to-go container for the au jus with the sandwich, but ended up asking the waitress at the bar since dear Reggie couldn't seem to remember.
