BanBury, a public course in Eagle thoughtfully designed by John Harbottle III, has consistently ranked among Idaho's top 10 public courses by Golf Digest for nearly two decades. The course flows gently along the South Channel of the Boise River and offers both challenge and charm. It was the first in our area to host a USGA championship, the U.S. Junior Girls. They are also adding a new simulator building next to Harvey's, their on-site restaurant. The space will feature three TrackMan simulators, full club-fitting services, and direct access to the bar, which sounds perfect for practice or a post-round hangout. My favorite part is sharing this place with friends. The golf course is pristine and welcoming. The staff is phenomenal, especially their PGA pro Drew, who gave me two lessons and runs fantastic group clinics. I always leave feeling more confident on the green. The restaurant side is just as amazing. The team, especially Law, knows our order so well that last visit he brought us our Arnold Palmers before we even asked. We always round out our day with lunch. Chicken tacos, Caesar salad, Reubens, burgers -- the food never disappoints. For evening golf or dinner, their prime rib and salmon are standout dishes. BanBury offers a flawless blend of great golf, excellent instruction, warm hospitality, and delicious food. I highly recommend it whether you are there to play, to eat, or just to spend time with friends.

Once the best public course within hundreds of miles, is now a shell of itself. What used to be a destination for me any time I was around, has become a once a year stop at the most. It's upsetting, especially considering how high the demand is in Boise for an elite public golf course. This weekends round was made especially miserable because of two factors the course absolutely had control over. The first being that myself (single digit handicap) and my partner (mid-handicap) were paired with two young men in their 20's, one of which had never played before. Needless to say, he was miserable, as were we. I had to buy drinks for the group behind us to apologize. Most egregious however, was that the course decided to let a group of FIVE people out in the middle of a Sunday afternoon, to film some Tik-Tok Golf Influencer "content". Our front nine, playing behind these folks took over 2 hours and 45 minutes, but then after the turn Hole 10 took 31 minutes BY ITSELF! By hole 14 we had decided to go ahead of them, and then were verbally accosted by the group as if wed done something inappropriate. And all of this cost me well over $100. The course conditions were mediocre and torn up, and it was crowded and slow even without the influencers. Highlights included awesome service from the folks in the restaurant and bar, and the young lady driving the beverage cart. All of which were affable, friendly, and made sure to take great care of us. Also the gentlemen in the Pro Shop were very professional, and understood my frustrations when I went to speak with them post round. I won't be back to Banbury this year. Might not be back again unless there's major changes to the operations and standards at Banbury Golf Club. Here's hoping that happens, because it sucks to see a world class golf course end up like that.

(Also pointing out the owners used to be really close friends) 100% do not give these people your money. I have the receipts and photo proof from the past two years. OH BOY ALMIGHTY. I am not a person to write reviews but this one deserves A LOT. I've been a regular at Dusty Rose Reserve for quite some time, which is why this experience was especially disappointing. I came in as I normally do and was immediately subjected to crude and inappropriate comments from a patron who was making repeated remarks about my appearance. He called me a "four eyes" and a "fucking ginger" because I wear glasses and have red hair. I initially brushed it off and went to sit back down because I wasn't there looking for a confrontation. Later, I went back to the bar simply to ask for some salt for my food. The same man looked at me and said, "They're out of salt, just like you're out of shorts." That comment was heard by multiple regulars and new patrons, and I want to give credit where it's due: several people immediately stood up for me and made it very clear that his behavior was unacceptable. I genuinely appreciated the people who spoke up. Then we found out this wasn't just some random patron. Apparently, this man was the newly hired manager. The bartender working that night was on only his THIRD DAY. When he attempted to address the situation and remove the manager, the manager threatened him by saying, "Remember who writes your schedule. Are you sure you want to do this?" Think about that for a second. A brand-new employee was being threatened with his job by the manager because he tried to stand up for a customer who was being sexually inappropriate and verbally harassed. The owner also threatened to ban us from the establishment for calling out HIS BARTENDER'S behavior. At that point, my friend contacted the owner because we have a longstanding relationship with the owners. Unfortunately, that conversation did not go well. The owner became angry and hung up on my friend. I then called myself because I wanted to speak with Rosie directly, hoping that another woman might better understand why I was upset and uncomfortable with what had happened. Instead, I was told that the manager had already been fired and that it was "not fair" that my friend had supposedly called to yell at his wife. For the record, my friend is one of the most genuinely kind and non-confrontational people I know. He was frustrated, yes, but he is not someone who goes around screaming at people. I repeatedly asked to speak with Rosie directly and was refused. Eventually, I ended the call with, "Thank you for firing the guy, but no thanks on this yelling," and hung up. I'm glad the manager was ultimately fired. However, the fact that it took customers standing up for me, a brand-new bartender putting his job on the line, and multiple phone calls before anything was done is extremely concerning. I've spent a lot of time at Dusty Rose Reserve and have supported this establishment as a regular. I genuinely hope the owners take this situation seriously... not just because of what happened to me, but because of how a newly hired employee was treated when he attempted to do the right thing. No woman should have to walk into a bar and be subjected to comments about her body or clothing, and no employee should be threatened with their schedule for trying to protect a customer. I appreciate the patrons who stood up for me, and I sincerely hope the bartender who was put in that position knows that he did the right thing. My girlfriends and I decided we needed to get some grub and enjoy the patio weather today so we all picked Sockeye to hit up for our monthly outing. I arrived first and the patio area was pretty chill. Was sat at a great table and hung out till the rest of my friends showed up. My two friends and I did get to peep out the menu for a bit. Our last friend who is notoriously late allowed is some extra time to really check out the whole menu without feeling rushed. Happy hour was going on so of course the apps were calling to me. I can make a meal off of multiple appetizers. We finally got food ordered when our last friend showed up. I got the salmon and shrimp crab cakes. I have left Sockeye hungry before after having dinner here so I also added a side of chili just in case. I was ready to eat! My crab and shrimp cakes came out looking fabulous. They were fried a nice golden brown. So crispy on the outside and savory on the inside. I love the aoili that was on top, it added an extra flair to the crab cake. 3 were in an order and it was the perfect amount. I smashed all 3 and they were so good! I did have a couple bites of the chili. It was hearty in meat and beans. Rich in flavor and filling. I'm looking forward to adding this chili to some fries with some cheese on top for dinner later. I know it's going to be so good. Our server did a great job tonight. Despite the fact that she had to wait till our last friend to show up, our server was on top of it. Our water was always filled, she checked up on us and always made sure we were happy. As a past server, it's hard to manage time between tables when the whole party isn't there. Our server didn't have that issue today. My girlfriends and I had a great time. We enjoyed the food, enjoyed the atmosphere and was happy that we got to do this all on the patio. I always forget that there's a Sockeye by us off of Hill Rd. I will have to check that one out soon to grab more crab cakes. I do look foward to coming back to this location and enjoying another round of appetizers on the patio here.
