S21. General Tso's Jumbo Shrimp
Nick P.

Felt that our dinner E-tang was a little hit or miss. Some dishes were spot on, others were straight up bad. For the good - the general tso jumbo shrimp and shrimp soup dumplings were very good, would recommend these. They had an employee freshly making dumplings behind the bar the entire time we were there , so you know they must be a popular item, and rightly so. The lo mein was average, shrimp inside them weren't as good as general tso. The flaming fish was just bad. I don't know what fish they're using, but it was spongy and gross - no one liked it. Wouldn't recommend getting any fish dishes from them. It's too bad because it looks good. All in, I would consider coming back, but only for specific things. I overall like other places in Savannah for Chinese more.

We love E-Tang! First visited last year during our annual Savannah trip and made sure to stop by again. Located inside a shopping plaza you walk into another building to find the restaurant. Simple decorations, not too large so be prepared to wait if you have a large party. Service is always quick and the food is always fresh and delicious.

We tried Etang a couple of weeks ago with a group of four and were really impressed. We ordered the bao, handmade soup dumplings, orange chicken, and beef and broccoli. The orange chicken and beef and broccoli each came with a bowl of rice, and the portions on the main dishes were huge. The orange chicken alone was enough for two adults and a nine-year-old to comfortably share. The orange chicken was absolutely delicious--crispy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The beef and broccoli had a rich, savory taste and was cooked really well. The bao were comforting and satisfying, and the soup dumplings were clearly handmade--you could literally watch them being made fresh, which was a great touch. Another big plus: they do not use peanut oil, so anyone with a peanut or peanut-oil allergy can safely eat here, which is hard to find and very appreciated. We were seated right away and drinks were brought. Once the food was delivered though no one came back to refill drinks, bring more rice or check on us. That was the only draw back. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. For four people and four drinks, the total was about $80, which felt very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. The food was absolutely phenomenal--so good that we're already planning to go back soon.

Service here was super fast and friendly. They came to take our orders so timely. We got the golden fish soup, pork soup dumplings and the beef pot. Food also came out very fast. I would say the skin on the soup dumplings were a little too thick but the soup inside was flavorful! The golden fish soup was okay, probably just not for me but the fish seemed pretty fresh. The beef pot was fragrant and had a good amount of spice to it and also came with lots of vegetables. Overall a solid Asian spot in Savannah.

Wow! Great Chinese restaurant with authentic food and uplifting staff. Our server answered all of our questions and recommended some really great, fresh, flavorful food. The dumplings were tasty, and not greasy at all. The beef with veggies was our favorite. It was healthy yet flavorful and with the perfect amount of spice. The crispy chicken was good, I only wish I would've know it was fried since I was trying to eat less calories. But I should've asked and the name literally says crispy. I wish I had room for dessert. It was super busy which is always a good sign.

I've been thinking about eating soup dumplings for a long time, and I'm so glad I finally found this spot. The soup dumplings were juicy, flavorful, and clearly freshly made.

Came here for lunch and was craving for dumplings. The restaurant was pretty roomy, typical chinese restaurant decor and pretty open floor plan. The server came right away and took our order. I ordered their mixed stemed dumplings and shrimp soup dumplings and they were so good! I also had their dan dan noodle and it just okay. I felt the noodle was too over done. I recommend their dumplings and hopefully I can try different dishes when we are visiting Savannah, GA in the future.

Low mein was good

Great ambience, food and service. We found the place on Yelp, and highly recommend it.

Excited to discover this restaurant on a recent trip to Savannah! The menu has lots of options for dim sum. This included dumplings in various flavors and styles. We decided to share several dishes. Everything was delivered hot and tasty!

Spicy pepper overload

A regular size order of griddle potatoes and vegetables contained an enormous load of spicy red peppers. Never seen a dish with so many. I suppose it might count as vegetable. Or maybe the cook is a chain smoker.

Our second time coming here and it was better than the first. All of their food is hot and fresh. My wife got the chicken pan fried dumplings and I got the pork pan fried dumplings. They were both equally delicious. Dipping them in the chili oil is a must. Vegetable Lo Mein is better than the chicken Lo Mein in our opinion. We also tried the chicken fried rice, it was delicious too. This restaurant has a causal feel. Perfect for a casual date.

Verenice was the BEST! Give that girl a raise or a promotion! She was doing it all! From taking orders, bringing food out, and cleaning up tables! She helped us navigate the menu/ordering. She also brought out our food to the table and was so helpful during our first time here. There were lots of ramen options to choose from. You choose your broth and meat option and that tells you your price. You can add extra toppings for additional costs. Runs about less than $20 a person. They have fountain drink options as well as other Asian drinks. They have rice bowl options as well as meat on a stick. They don't have kids meal options but it's about $8 for noodles and broth. Which is a good option for kids. I ordered shoyu broth for my son. I didn't realize it would taste so salty. I understand it's a soy sauce broth. But most ramen broths I've had isn't to that degree. I asked if they could add hot water to the hot water to make it less salty. Verenice again was so helpful, she brought the ramen back out and said if I needed more water added to just ask. I will say I did not appreciate the additional comments from some of the kitchen staff. The place is decorated with lots of anime characters. They have a vending machine with goodies. A claw machine with stuffed animals and lots of Pokémon cards for sale.

The service was good. You place your order at the counter and pay before finding a seat. However, the food was a bit underwhelming. I'm glad I was able to try it, but I'm unlikely to return.

I ordered chicken biriyani, as I'm not a fan of sauces. Ah-mazing. It's such a simple dish, but it was bursting with flavor. The only down side was that it wasn't spicy enough. They offered extra spices though! Being a white girl ordering things "Indian spicy" usually gets me "white girl spicy" I wish I knew how to assure restaurants I can handle heat. Anyway, I also got the mango mojito. It paired well with biriyani and cut the heat quite a bit.

We were told there was a one-hour wait for dine-in and a 45-minute wait for takeout. We placed a takeaway order, but had to wait 75 minutes to get our food, which was disappointing. Since we were visiting the area and staying at a hotel, we asked for disposable cutlery. They did not have plates and provided only spoons and forks. About the food: -Butter naan and Paneer Methi Malai: 4/5 - good flavor and soft paneer. -Veg Hakka noodles: 3/5 - just average, nothing special. -Veg biryani: 2/5 - root vegetables were undercooked and almost raw, not flavorful, and not truly a biryani; it would be better described as pulao. The portion sizes were decent, but they did not follow our requested spice level and served the food mild to medium. Overall, we had a disappointing experience at this restaurant.

I'd been desperate for pho, the simple but amazing Vietnamese soup whose broth takes almost a whole…read moreday, several pounds of beef and beef bones, and the chef's full freaking attention, if it's done right. Saigon Cafe on Waters Ave. closed, and that was the last place I knew in Savannah that served that exquisite, clear soup. I always get chicken soup (pho ga). The new owners are doing good work, but I'd been spoiled. The broth doesn't have the depth, and it isn't hot enough. It's gotta come smoking, fogging glasses, clearing sinuses. But Boomy's brings the broth. I've been there two or three times, and it's my new pho go-to. The noodles are wider than At Saigon Cafe, but that's fine; they hold their bite longer without getting mushy. Please note: Boomy's is a bar on Congress Street in Downtown Savannah. It's wheelchair accessible and laid back. A Dad out with his two young boys asked if one kid could use the bathroom and was welcomed ... no purchase, no hesitation. And a lady in a wheelchair with her companion and her dog ducked in for a soft drink and a rest. Everyone's welcome. Nothing about its façade or dive-bar vibe suggests it serves bangin' Vietnamese food. Waitstaff is quick to show you the burger menu on the back, in case pho isn't your jam. Because they serve Thai food as well, they're careful to have you choose your heat level. They're happy to give you pepper flakes on the side and Sriracha at the table. But my pho didn't need it. My lunch companion got the rare beef pho. The hot soup came with thin slices of beef wrapping in foil on the side. Drop it in and it cooks. Looked delicious. My pho ga was amazing. I rarely can eat it all, but I did that day. My only minor complaint is that the bean sprouts looked a little less than fresh, but I'm not a big fan of them in soup anyway. Didn't slow me up one bit. But I AM a big fan of their cucumber and tomato salad. Cukes, chopped tomatoes, grated carrots, and maybe grated radish were all dressed with fish sauce, maybe rice vinegar, and a little sugar. If I'd had some cilantro I would have added it; cilantro is expensive these days. Can't blame them for not including it. It may be available by request. Oh, and try the cocktails. I had the tequila cooler and subbed watermelon vodka for cucumber vodka. So refreshing. Go to Boomy's. Get there on one of the few remaining cool days of spring. Or if you come down with a spring cold. Or if you work downtown in an office meat locker, go to warm up from the inside out. It's worth the hunt for parking.
