I didn't even consider looking for decent Chinese food in Savannah, much less good Xiao Long Bao. (Soup dumplings) But this place was a surprise and a total hidden gem. For reference, I am from Shanghai and make it a point to get XLB wherever I go. (I am usually disappointed) This is one of the best XLB I've had in the US. There is a very hardworking woman making them fresh to order in the corner of the restaurant-amazing! Soup is plentiful and not greasy, skins are thin, and flavor is savory and well-balanced. The rest of the menu has a lot of mostly Szechuan style dishes. We went twice in a weekend and tried the twice-cooked pork (another one of my faves which often is a disappointment), cumin lamb, and country style tofu. All were solid, if a bit heavy on the salt. The menu is Chinese-style with photos of the various dishes which I always think is a nice authentic touch. The space is not huge-when we went on a Friday night there started to be a bit of a wait when we left at 8ish. Sunday AM we opened the place up at 11 and it wasn't too packed. One final note, service was so friendly and helpful. Really made us feel welcome even with our constant demand for dumplings! Probably my favorite Asian restaurant in Savannah right now (and there are so many great ones). This place is the REAL DEAL - authentic Chinese food, unpretentious, flavorful. They make the soup dumplings right there, they are delicious and remind me of my time in China. We also had the braised tofu, cucumber cold app, and braised eggplant. Everything was delicious. A great place for flavorful authentic Chinese food. I've been a few times and now it is my ho to place for Chinese food. It has good dumplings. The soup dumplings are good as is the Yan chow fried rice. The spicy crispy chicken is good, I asked to make it medium spicy, and it wasn't spicy enough so I'll get it the spicy way next time. A really delicious, flavorful, spicy dish for at least two people is the Mala whole fish! So many different flavors and foods! It is very expensive, as it is a special dish. Reminds me of my experience eating in China. I was the only white dude there. The wait staff was cold and aloof. The food was outstanding. Dan Dan noodles were had an excellent flavor that exceeded expectation (the sauce is on the bottom so mix it up before eating). Soup dumplings were handmade and delivered flavor and texture with simplicity. $25 is a bit steep for lunch. Eating family style is the way to go here. The atmosphere is laid back, and it is always busy but usually there's not a long wait. The only reason I gave 4 stars is due to the bathroom. I've been a real cheerleader for E-Tang since my first visit in October. I've told all my friends and many visitors, as I volunteer in the historic district. While pricey, everything has been high quality and deliciously prepared. I've eaten in and gotten take out and delivery. After the first take out, I realized the portions are smaller than those in the restaurant and yet more expensive. The egg roll and dumpling sauce are less than 2 tablespoons. Hard to cover 2 egg rolls or 6 dumplings. Still, I've never thought twice about ordering. Tonight I ordered egg rolls, dumplings and sesame chicken. My order of sesame chicken was actually General Tsao's, half the size of a normal order and way over cooked. I was so disappointed by the quality and size for the price of this dish ($19.95). I love Chinese and E-Tang has been so good. I hate to think they've lost their wonderful chef and will become like all the other sub-par Chinese restaurants. As a native New Yorker my standards for food are very high. E-tang is definitely on the same level as New York Chinatown! Living nearby the hubby and I come here all the time. We try new items each time we come but I always order the pan fried beef baozi and crispy spicy chicken. My all time favorite. Very authentic Sichuan taste, more numb spicy than actual spicy. The same is true for all the crispy spicy dishes (frog leg, fish), although those are not as heavily salted as the crispy spicy chicken. My only complaint would be that the last time we came the chili oil was more oil than spice. The chili flakes were practically nonexistent. read more

Best customer service we had in all savannah! In the hunt for vegan food it's always a good habit to eat international foods. This place did not disappoint. We found this place from a recommendation from a waiter at another restaurant. The waiter was very sensitive to vegan requirements, which I was thankful for. I really struggle with recommending because I consider myself a foodie yet I had never heard of it and feel like I want to keep it a secret, but it is too good not to. I've been living here 4 years and visiting over 25. I had been all around that area but never knew it was there. In fact, it is a bit hidden in side the building in the back corner, but when I saw that most diners had smiles on their faces (even waiting on their food), I knew something was up. We were out the other day looking for lunch and are trying to find new places to go in Savannah. Yelp had E-tang listed as a new spot with authentic Chinese food. It's pretty hard to find good soup dumplings in the south, but this spot said they had them. This place is tucked away in a strip mall type area but the best spots always are. (plenty of parking). The restaurant had plenty of tables/booths and a bar (they're in the process of getting their liquor license but they're already set up for when they get it) You can always spot a good restaurant that has their own chili oil sitting at the table. I can say their soup dumplings and shumai are one of the best we've had! We also had the dandan noodles and my husbands response to them was, "I just want to bathe in a tub of these!" This rating is based on Service. We arrived at 7:55pm. Our reservation was at 8pm. After 5min, we asked the person who was there before arrived how long he was waiting. He said 10 min and no one had helped him. My husband went to the cashier to ask for assistance and she said that they weren't taking anymore orders. He explained that had a reservation and she was blank stare and said they weren't taking anymore people. After speaking with another person they still couldn't assist us. They restaurant was 1/2 full. We left and went to Flock to the Wok who seated us immediately. The food was EXCELLENT!! Stand clear of this restaurant. We tried this restaurant tonight for the first time and our minds were blown at how flavorful and authentic the food was. We lived in New York City before moving to Savannah and can to be a little critical of restaurants here, but this one rivals many of the Szechuan Chinese restaurants we would eat at in New York. We ordered the garlic cucumber salad, Dan Dan noodles, salt and pepper shrimp, spicy crunchy chicken, and the eggplant in garlic sauce. When I'm telling you my mouth was bursting with flavors from each dish, I'm serious.
