Today, Chef Jason loudly called me out from across the restaurant about my outside food instead of speaking to me privately. It was embarrassing and happened in front of my family, friends, and other guests. I also noticed him speaking harshly to the waitresses beforehand, which was disappointing to witness. As a business owner and a member of the local Chamber of Commerce, I understand that businesses have policies. However, the way those policies are communicated matters. A respectful, private conversation would have been appropriate. Publicly embarrassing a loyal customer is not. Thankfully, the waitresses continue to provide excellent service, but this experience left a very negative impression and reflects poorly on the business.

When it was time to pay, another employee helped us. We had to point out that the ramen never came and ask for it to be removed from the bill. His response was simply, "Sorry about that, let me take it off. Here's your total." There was no real sense of concern, apology, or effort to make the situation right. Mistakes happen, but the lack of communication and customer service is what made this experience so disappointing. Staff could benefit from additional customer service training and more awareness of their guests' needs. Unfortunately, after this experience, we will not be returning and would not recommend this restaurant to others.

I couldn't be ANY happier with this place. I've been to plenty of Sushi places around Whittier, and these guys are definitely top of the line! The one thing that stood out for me was how courteous and polite all the servers were. They are extremely friendly and make you feel very welcome! We ended up starting off with some spicy garlic edamame beans and seaweed salad. Let me tell you, if they could put heaven on a plate -- spicy garlic edamame was the key to eternal salvation!! I thoroughly enjoyed every mouth watering bite :) Then to top off our dinner, we ended with a plate of tuna rolls. They were absolutely delish! The freshest tuna rolls ever!! It was as if I was sitting on a Sushi boat out in the middle of the ocean, and the tuna was flyin' out of the water and straight into my mouth. That's how fresh they were! My friend told me about this place and finally we went. I am usually a picky for sushi. We walked in and immediately sat down as there was no wait. Asked the waiter what they recommend and they said e sushi special. I ordered couple other sushi as well to see the quality. When my roll came, the first bite I took I instantly fell in love with it. I was amazed. The sushi that I also tried was very fresh and soft, almost melts like butter! The service was very good too, always came to check up on us. This is undoubtedly the best sushi in the Whittier/North OC area. I've been to many and most fall very short in quality. Esushi's fish is always fresh and high quality. Chef John is not only a special sushi chef, he is very knowledgeable and extremely friendly. As well as a master of his craft. Kawa is his assistant and is almost as good as John. Used to come to Sushi from the east. First time back since new ownership and it exceeded expectations. Cilantro halibut was fresh and was high quality. Service was great, food came out quickly. With this sudden notification, EVERYONE, from the community is showing up to support. People have memories here from they were a toddler, to when they themselves had kids. This family was nice enough to have us dine with them after our number got called and we missed it and it was THREE generations of family that had memories of dining at Amachi. So many people were waiting for 3+ hours to support Amachi and its owner, Grandma Kyoko, and all of the staff as their winding down to close. It's truly a hole in the wall, small business, mom and pop Japanese restaurant with an old school art deco flair you really don't see anymore. The framed portrait of Kyoko, paired with her walking around and greeting everyone, you can't help but to have a huge smile on your face. She's so sweet and kind. All of the staff is extremely friendly, kept apologizing for the wait, and were very personable. I can only think of one word seeing them do what they love and it's "family". For our dinner, we got the fried shumai, short ribs, tempura, sukiyaki (not many places have this anymore and it's hearty helping in a hot pan with udon noodles), tuna sashimi, and chicken teriyaki. It's simple, Japanese comfort food. Nostalgic. It's like being welcomed home. Delicious with fluffy, warm rice. Tempura was crispy and not too oily, veggies were fresh. Not too salty and the short ribs were tender. The flavor of the sauces were perfect and fried shumai was pretty addicting to eat. Yubus are tofu skin filled with rice and toppings. These little guys pack a punch in flavor. The yubus itself were super flavorful and felt like they were marinated in something. They are super generous with the toppings and it always tastes super fresh. It doesn't look like much food but the yubus really fill you up. I've always tried their crab handroll and it was divine. Karai Handroll bar is located in the rodeo 39 food hall and is so unassuming but so delicious. Would definitely recommend

We stumbled across this hand roll bar at Rodeo 72 in Whittier. They have the option to sit at the…read morebar or order through the kiosk for takeout. We ended up ordering the $25 hand roll set (5 different rolls) from the kiosk, and they texted us when our order was ready. The hand rolls themselves were pretty good. They came nicely packaged with a strip you could pull to separate the plastic, allowing you to reform the rice and seaweed so everything stayed fresh, even if you ate them at home. The quality was solid, and overall it was an enjoyable meal. Not bad for something in a food court!
