Heard mixed reviews about this place, but my wife and I found out one of the owners founded one of our favorite restaurants in Chicago, Sunda, so we wanted to try it. First off, the only reason this is getting a 3 is because their fried brussel sprout/kale salad is basically the same as the one @ Sunda and it's absolutely delicious, so I'm glad we can get this salad w/out having to drive 4 hrs. As far as the rest of the meal, underwhelming and disappointing would be the words I would choose. Our waitress was brand new, so this review is not an indictment on her b/c she was very sweet and did the best she could; the management and some of the other staff was the issue (as I've noticed has been the issue w/ other reviews of this place). We ordered Sushi, Ceviche and Nigiri and my whole order was wrong. Instead of the tuna ceviche, i was brough Tuna sashimi, instead of the Hamachi Nigiri, I was brought the Hamachi sashimi. Again, the waitress was new and she was deeply apologetic and ended up eventually getting the right order, but no one from management came to our table to help her out or apologize to us for the delay which was disappointing and they let her flounder by herself. When the correct food came, i was deeply underwhelmed; my Scallop nigiri totally lacked flavor other than a hint of fishiness which is extremely off-putting when eating raw sushi. The Hamachi was better but still nothing outstanding. The "ceviche" should actually be called Tuna Salad. As a lover of fresh ceviche from my time in Miami and even getting the ceviche @ Mita's in Cincy, this was not ceviche. True ceviche is "cooked" in some kind of citrus marinade, not bathed in an aoli/mayonnaise which is what their Tuna ceviche was. My wife enjoyed her tango sushi roll so not all of the raw fish experience was unpleasant, but everything I ordered was. I would give this place another try b/c it has potential, but i think i will stick to the cooked food. The last complaint I had was at the end of the meal i presented a $10 off coupon for signing up for what I thought was their email list, but it turns out it was the Chicago location so they wouldn't redeem the coupon, totally fine. However, after all of the issues we had w/ the meal/service and getting the wrong food, a well run restaurant would usually just say we'll honor this or take $10 off your meal for the all of the mistakes we've made. Not E + O, the manager did not even offer and wasn't exactly endearing when he came to the table. That was the first we had seen of him even though his new waitress was clearly struggling @ a fairly busy service and was ill prepared for it. I felt bad for our waitress, but clearly see where the issues are coming from b/c there appears to be no guidance/direction for this restaurant, which is extremely disappointing considering all of our great experiences we had in Chicago @ Sunda. read more
