My wife and I walked here before seeing a play at the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company. We split an Okonomiyaki Pancake, which was absolutely delicious. We also ordered a Thai iced tea that was creamy, sweet, and about 128 ounces smaller than I would have preferred (it was liquid gold). For my entree, I picked the Charred Pork Belly Bahn Mi, which was sweet and savory, crispy and juicy, and all the veggie accoutrements all blended together well for a fantastic sandwich. Also, it was outrageously large for a ridiculously low $11. My wife got the firecracker sandwich, which was also quite tasty, though it couldn't hold a candle to my sandwich in bahn mi opinion. Everything else was so tasty we couldn't resist getting dessert, so we ordered the yuzu cheesecake, which was rich, sweet, tart, and definitely hit the spot. We were able to get two entrees, an appetizer, a drink, and dessert for roughly $50, including tip! If that isn't a convincing reason to visit, I don't know what would be. read more

Stumbled upon this one day for lunch downtown and it did not disappoint, so much so I went back the next week with my husband. Small little resturant Tucked away amongst the corporate businesses, so it gets lots of foot traffic at lunch time. Service was quick and the food was delicious! Yummy! Looks like nothing from the street , but it's bigger on the inside. Everything we tried was wonderful! "Asian street food"--a mix of Japanese, Chinese, and Vietnamese. We hadn't heard of Hawker's Alley until we saw them participating in Cincy Taco Week. Between the description of those tacos and also reading their menu online, I knew we had to check them out. It's a small place but cute. We got seated right away but that was the only thing that went quickly. What we expected to be a quick meal was over 2 hours long! We weren't in a hurry and our server was working hard, so it was fine but definitely don't go if you're on a time crunch. We tried all three of the tacos offered for taco week, the pork dumplings and the potato tornado. The tacos were delicious and topped with lots of fresh veggies. The dumplings and potato were very good as well. The final cost was surprisingly low. Between four of us, we got 6 specialty tacos, an order of dumplings, a potato tornado, 3 cocktails and 3 desserts and it only came to $80! The pork skewers with Korean bbq sauce are THE BOMB! They remind me of pork on the stick skewers you can find on the streets of the south side of Pittsburgh (PA) after a night out. My bf got the chicken teriyaki bowl and enjoyed it. I shared my only pork on a stick w/him & he ate the whole thing . My 3 skewers came with my choice of a side. I chose cucumber salad. It wasn't too sour. We got edamame and spring rolls as appetizers. The edamame was really good and lightly seasoned to perfection. Our waiter was really nice and attentive. I am not very impressed with the food or the accuracy of the order. We should have gotten the hint when the restaurant next door was bustling but this place has a couple of tables occupied. I got the soba noodles and asked for no eggs, but ofcourse there were eggs in my food. The menu said oyster mushrooms in the noodle dish and the bahn-mi, however all the mushrooms were regular mushrooms, didn't see any oyster mushrooms in any of the dishes. The Bahn-mi was also very underwhelming. The dumplings dough was very thick and I could barely taste the filling. The dipping sauce was very delicious though. My husband got popcorn chicken and some chicken curry with rice. His food came out per expectations and he said he liked it. Hawkers has been open since May and some very nice folks are running this restaurant. The service was great I was checked on more than one time to see if I needed anything else and if the food was good. I went in here for Cincinnati Burger Week and had the burger with Korean barbecue sauce and I also ordered an okonomiyaki. For my cocktail I had the lychee cocktail and it was certainly sweet but it was delicious. The okinomiyaki may have had too much of the Japanese barbecue and the Japanese Mayo for me but I like mine with a little less sauce. Overall the okinomiyaki was delicious and I don't believe I have had one that's it any other time I have ordered it in a restaurant which I thought was pretty nice. The burger was perfectly cooked to medium and very juicy. It had Korean barbecue and mayo and all the fixins. It was very good burger. I saw several other things on the menu that I want to try and it given how great the service was and the food was good I am certainly going to make another trip back here! read more

Sad to say we finally gave this place a chance and wish we hadn't. Ordered the "Crispy" Chicken Katsu Curry over rice and the Bo Kho soup for take out and arrived at the same time as the food came out and had 2 min drive up the street. The chicken was not crispy and tasted pre-cooked (soups vide) so no flavor was infused into the meat and was almost rubbery. No crisp to the outer despite there being virtually no curry sauce. Rice was also insanely over cooked mush. The Bo Kho broth was fine (not traditional, tasted very carrot-y and American), the meat was tender but the noodles were so overcooked it was congealing together before even putting it in the soup. Tried it in there and had to remove it and cook my own noodles which really defeats the purpose of ordering take out. Neither of us finished our meal and were just forcing ourselves to take bites. Should've known to not trust a place with such an extensive menu and with so many different countries of flavor. Wish we ordered through DoorDash to get a refund. Angering. read more

Great food and even better service! We split a bunch of things and were satisfied before even starting our entree. Our server was super attentive and walked us through his recommendations throughout the menu. There was so many things we wanted to try. For apps we got the crispy eggplant, crispy tofu and the Japanese pancake. All were great and we loved the sauces. We also got the skewers - beef lemongrass, chicken teriyaki, and pork with cilantro. Everything was hot and had a nice grilled flavor. We loved all 3 sauces. For sides we got rice and fries. Both were hot and the fries were crispy and seasoned. Throughout and after our meal, the owner and our server checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed. We asked for things like more sauce and to-go containers a few times, and they were super responsive every time. Our server also split our check how we requested - there were 3 of us and 2 of us split a bunch of stuff so he split everything accordingly. Partaking in Cincinnati Wings Week, my friend and I opted for Hawkers and ordered the Spicy Korean BBQ wings, Okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake), and lychee martinis (my favorite). Everything was theeeeeee bomb!!! The wings were perfectly seasoned and cooked, and the martinis gave my favorite in the city some stiff competition. I especially loved that one of the owners visited our table to speak to us, discuss the menu, and make personal recommendations. The location is where the lobster bar was located, and the owners did a fine job with the decor. I look forward to the day when this location is bustling, similar to OTR, because small, local, family-owned businesses such as this one deserve so much shine. I was not that impressed with the food here. Service was alright though a bit slow to get drinks, order in, etc... however the staff was super friendly and sweet to make up for it. I ordered the Coconut Matcha Latte and felt it was a bit too sweet. The matcha tasted good but could do with less of the coconut syrup sweetener. It also tasted like warm and got cold with the ice after so the milk needs to be chilled more. For dinner I ordered the Hawkers' Fried Rice and the curry chicken chino taco, as it was on the Asian Cuisine Week specials. It says comes with side of rice on the menu and didn't. Also, there was just so much chicken but barely any of the veggies. I like my tacos to have veggies so 2 pieces of potatoes just didn't cut it for me. The chicken felt overly cooked because you had to chew it a lot. The curry sauce was delicious but not a fan overall of the way it's assembled. The fried rice was just alright. Nothing that special in flavor and the chicken was again overcooked and you could barely cut or chew it. I had to add a lot of Siracha for flavor. The grilled pork was good but also had fatty pork pieces inside which I don't care for in fried rice. I would rather that all be cut away first. Portion was decent for rice and it could last you for dinner and lunch. But for the price, the taco is not worth it and the fried rice could use some work. I was not that excited for what I got and think traditional street food like the tornado potato fries or skewers could have been better. May or may not come here again to try them, but for how much I ended up spending here for dinner it would likely be for a snack/happy hour. read more

My husband, a friend, and I chose Hawkers Alley for dinner to celebrate my new job. I had added the business to my "must try" list when they opened a few months ago and I saw they had "twisted potatoes" and okonomoyaki on the menu! The potato had such a fun presentation and was also fun to eat. It was a little less flavorful than anticipated, but I'd eat it again! The okonomoyaki was spot on. My friend got skewers with sides-- you can choose three different flavors of skewers! And my husband got a delicious chicken katsu sandwich. The vibe inside the restaurant is fun and simple. The dining room is long and filled with mostly booths. The server was so so helpful and talked us through the entire menu! Asian street food done right! I ducked in with a friend for a girl's night and we were deliciously rewarded. Knowing how good the food is, the dining room should be packed! We were the only table at 8pm on a Tuesday night. We started with the Okonomiyaki. So delicious! The shaved dashi and seaweed on top really Intensified the seafood flavor. I continued with the Japanese curry. The strong curry and crispy chicken were a great combination. The best part was the little potatoes throughout the dish that were tender and bursting with flavor. If you don't like too much Japanese mayo, maybe request it on the side; they were generous with it on the pancake and my friend's katsu. Otherwise, you can't go wrong here. We stopped in for Taco Week, we keep trying to get here and something always gets in the way. Interesting place, I would love to know the history, beautiful long bar that the bar back has been converted into the kitchen. We tried all three tacos; Karaage chicken, Bao Bun pork belly and Vietnamese chicken tacos. The Karaage chicken was the winner crisp and a little heat, I could have eaten three of these. The Vietnamese Chicken was a close second I loved the seasoning and juicy chicken. I love pork belly boa buns it was very good as well but came in third tonight. We had the pan fried dumplings which I get anywhere I see them, the first was a bit too seared but the second one I had was perfect and everyone else enjoyed them. The place was pretty full and out waiter was literally running all night getting orders out and cleaning tables. The meal did take over two hours which seems long but we enjoyed the food so much we won't stop that from coming back. Great food with interesting twists and I highly recommend it read more

The waiter didn't really explain the menu so we winged it, literally . We had a few appetizers just to fill out the menu. Grabbed some light bites and drinks with friends after work. Food was tasty, lots of gluten free options, and a wonderful staff! The spicy eggplant is coated in cornstarch so it's gf and was my favorite dish that we tried! We each got a tornado (spiralized potato, also in cornstarch/gf) - I got the truffle Parmesan version which added great flavor, but the potato wasn't as crispy as I was hoping. We each got a couple skewers (the satay, lemongrass, and cumin are all gf), which were all tasty. For drinks, I got the jalapeño margarita and it was good but sweeter than I usually go for.
