We went here last night for the first time, although my daughter had been here recently and loved it.
Good selection of varied items on the menu, so when you can't quite decide what kind of food you want to eat, you can come here and have a little of this, a little of that. Our server, who was terrific, recommended diners order a couple of items to share, and then periodically order more until satisfied. We didn't quite do that, but we did share all of the items we ordered.
Cocktails: I had the Strawberry Sling, based on a recommendation on Yelp. Made of Vodka, Strawberry, Serrano Coriander, and Lemon. My own fault for not realizing that the Serrano Coriander would add as much "bite" to the cocktail as it did, because I was surprised at how spicy it was for me. I drank it all, and it was good...just be forewarned that there is a little bit of a kick. My daughter ordered the Ocean Water, and I took a little sip. Very tasty! My son drank a red wine, reasonably priced, by the glass.
We started off with Sushi, ordering two rolls to share. One had pork belly, and was really good! I loved the carafe the soy sauce came in. Lovely.
Because of reviews I had read, we decided a must have was the Brussels Sprout and Kale salad with shrimp. The kale is roasted and in small, crisp pieces. Lightly dressed, if you wish, by the server at table side. Very good!
Other items we shared were the crispy chicken tacos, the duck buns, and the loco moco. The duck buns come two to a plate, in the soft bun-bread, folded in half. Full of flavor, tender pieces of duck. Delicious! However, the loco moco was the only miss for us of the night. Maybe it was because we had been eating bright flavors, with layers of surprises (acid, sweet, salty, crunchy, soft, savory) when we got the loco moco it just felt boring and unseasoned. The meat was cooked well, but it just seemed to be pieces of beef on a bed of white rice with a touch of standard-issue gravy on top. It wasn't bad, just not memorable compared to the other items we shared that night. Luckily, the last item to arrive was the crispy chicken tacos. They were very nicely cooked, with that delicious crunch when you bite into them, and a fabulous chili aioli that went perfectly with the taco, ramping up the flavor. Three to a plate (although we would have liked to have been able to "mix and match" the tacos) and left us with traces of the flavorful dining experience in our mouths, which is always a delightful way to finish an evening.
We were not "dressed up" but not overly casual, and we felt comfortable. When I was here during the "Dancing Wasabi" days, I felt so out of place with the atmosphere, I only came one time. However, it is a little cozier inside to me, and the server was so attentive, that we all felt it was a special night out. Prices were about average, although I did feel some items were priced higher than they should have been (like the Brussels Sprout salad and the Loco Moco) but no real complaints.
We will return, and I recommend you stop by! read more
