We love supporting places like DV8. We have similar places in Chicago and have had some of the best meals there. We popped into DV8 for lunch before heading to Willet for a tour. It's a nice bright side with plenty of outdoor seating. I ordered the impossible burger on special, a veggie version of the Best Burger in Town and my husband the bacon, egg and cheese. It's always nice when you can get a great meal and support an amazing organization. Everything here is great. Salad was fresh and great dressing. Fried green tomato sandwich was amazing (I just had to put peppers instead of bacon because I'm a vegetarian) and my husband loved the monte cristo sandwich. Unfortunately, for my waistline, they were pulling out cinnamon rolls out of the oven when we ordered so we had to try. Really good dough which wasn't too sweet, but make sure to get a side of chocolate icing. Overall great experience! Jeez, the food alone makes this place a 5. Add the incredibly kind service and you just can't wait to return. Impossible burger- I had never had this before and I took a bite from my friend's. It was a weird bacon(?) smoked flavor, but my friends said it was good and that I was wrong (haha). It has a yummy egg on it and they enjoyed it a lot! Breakfast Reuben- reminded me of a corned beef hash with way more flavor, very filling. In a word: yummmm. During this time, I've said over and over: Full disclosure, this was a delivery made during COVID 19. There is always a possibility that my rating could be higher if the dish had been consumed in-house. I ordered the DV8 grilled cheese and tater tots for breakfast. The grilled cheese comes with cheddar, avocado, bacon, and Dijon sauce. Though I prefer my grilled cheese on the lighter side, this was almost so light that I got the feeling it was rushed. In addition, I didn't encounter any Dijon until the last third of the sandwich, indicated uneven application. The tater tots were a little greasy, but they were tater tots, so I'm not sure I could expect much different. The flavors were pretty good, but I think just a little more attention to detail could have made a big difference. This restaurant also has a breakfast Reuben with corned beef and Russian dressing and southern Benedict eggs with ham. They have all day breakfast sandwiches as well as lunch sandwiches and non-traditional tacos. I would give this place another try for sure. Honestly it had great reviews and I high expectations, maybe I just got the wrong thing? Maybe a different cook or he was having an off day. The "best burger in town" is not a good name for the burger. Lexington has way more burgers that I would choose. It was just a basic burger that I wouldn't get again if I came back. Honestly, how can you not give this place 5 stars? The dual mission of DV8 Kitchen is to serve a delicious brunch and give others a second chance, and they seem to be succeeding on both fronts. DV8 is an order-at-the-counter place, similar to Panera, except a server will bring out your food when your order is ready. While you are waiting, there is a counter for serve-yourself fresh bread with a few spreads set out for patrons- a nice touch. On my first visit, I had avocado toast which was great! I didn't see it on the menu the next time I went, however I got the grilled PB&J and that was good as well. On a third occasion, I'd gotten caught in a terrible storm while driving on Harrodsburg Road. I pulled over to wait it out and parked outside DV8. I was sitting in my car when I saw employees motion for me to come inside and wait for the storm to pass. I was so thankful because the winds were really bad! We stopped here for breakfast and it was delicious! The line goes pretty fast. The ladies behind the counter were super nice, and giving us their recommendations since we were first timers. They don't have a kids menu but the ladies were able to recommend what kids like -- and my daughter actually ate everything that was recommended. We really liked the rustic/country interior too. There is play of open table seating, and booths too. It was very clean, and really liked the layout. They have a fully stocked condiment station and drink station. They sell freshly made bread and jams you can take home too. We ordered the Benedict and Reuben and cream cheese cinnamon bun. Everything was so delicious! We came here for brunch after the early service at church due to the good reviews, and we were not disappointed! Hubby ordered a ham and cheese croissant with unsweetened iced tea and I ordered the lobster Benedict biscuit with cold brew coffee. We split a couple of turkey sausage patties. Sure, I love the concept here. Beautiful story. But I think it has to be judged on the food. It's a restaurant after all. I went with the "Best Burger in Town". It was really good. Was it the best burger in town? No, but still pretty good. The thing is, the best burger in town is right across the street. And it's cheaper. And it comes with fries there. And you can't keep from thinking about that when you're eating it. The wife went with the Pimento Cheese Chicken sandwich. I liked the originality here. Pimento cheese is underutilized in my opinion, and the combo here, while it initially seemed a little odd (I don't like to mix cheese and fried chicken), it just worked somehow. My son went with the Monte Cristo. Out of the three sandwiches, this one gets my vote for tops. The croissant was tender and sweet, and the sandwich overall was quite tasty. Again, I like the story here. But keep in mind that these three sandwiches, with small drinks, came out to just shy of $35. Definitely not a rip off, but when you consider that they were sans sides, it is a little pricey for what you're getting. Good food. Great service. Not the best value. This is a place that you order at the counter then grab a table. We were immediately greeted in line by a super friendly host. He gave us a menu and some recommendations and we picked out what we wanted. I got the bacon egg and cheese biscuit and my husband got the breakfast tacos. We also ordered the caramel pecan cinnamon roll because it looked incredible. The food came out quickly and was delicious! The reason I came was by this place was by searching a great coffee place on Yelp and Google. This place is so highly rated I thought heck yes! The photos look good and I love coffee. The 3 choices of coffee are: Terrible, Awful, and decaf. Seriously. All of them were bad. They tasted burnt. Just generally...not good. This coming from someone who doesn't mind diner coffee. I like a lot of different coffees, but these were bad. Food: underwhelming. I ordered the breakfast plate with scrambled eggs, bacon, biscuit, and home made jam. The eggs tasted like they were from a carton, the bacon tasted microwaved from a box, the biscuit isn't great and tasted like it came from a tube. The jam is good but you can't mess up jam. Service: absolutely wonderful. The staff is amazing and friendly. They're extremely attentive and pleasant. Ambiance: surprisingly, weirdly, Christian if you're into that type of decor. TRY A CINNAMON ROLL!! I tried this place out twice since it was next to my hotel. Both times, the place was not terribly busy. Once you get in line to order the menus are hip level on the wall to the right. Seems like they do not keep them stocked well so be ready to bring the menu up on your phone. I tried out the marmalade chicken on a biscuit, tater tots, General Tso tacos and the pecan, seasonal blueberry cheesecake and birthday cake cinnamon rolls. The food came out in a timely manner. When the food arrived, I tried out the rolls first since I wanted to try it when it was warm. I was surprised when both were hardly warm. That did not away from the wonderful taste each roll had. The rolls are definitely some of the better ones out there. The tater tots are must try for any tater tot lover. The marmalade chicken was the disappointment. The biscuit was dry and kind of bland. The chicken was not exciting. The only thing you could really taste was the abundance of orange marmalade. The tacos were just alright. We were headed out of town, but my wife was bound and determined to visit here. Typically I would opt to run by McDonald's or something, but I'm so glad she didn't. Upon entering the store, we quickly scanned their menu. As a key lime fan, my wife immediately has her eyes set on the key lime cinnamon roll. My four year old was set on the chocolate cinnamon roll. After scanning the menu, I had to do something different and opted for their breakfast Reuben. We even opted to get one of their DV8 branded Silipints - I've been eyeing those for a while anyways. Everything was amazing and not quite what was expected. Let's focus for a minute on this breakfast Reuben... this photo just doesn't do it justice. The cubes of corned beef were huge. The perfect egg was runny, just like it should be. The peppers, the onions, this thing was a work on art! Yes, that is possibly what my husband read, that they only hire people who are in recovery... putting something good out in the world- an idea I wholly support. Food Fun Adventure Weekend took Fat Man Reviews to DV8 Kitchen in Lexington, KY. DV8 serves breakfast, brunch and lunch. They have two locations in town. I started with the Biscuits & Gravy. This dish is prepared with homemade biscuits and red eye sausage gravy. The biscuit was a little dry, but it was later in the day. The sausage chunks were tender and tasty. The actual gravy had broken a little and was a little mealy. When made fresh, this would be excellent. I also tried the Orange Marmalade Chicken sandwich on a Brioche bun with honey butter and orange marmalade. You can also get it on sourdough bread or a biscuit. The brioche was soft and slightly sweet. The honey butter was nice, and it went well with the bread. The chicken is fried tenders, but it was a little dry and overcooked. The orange marmalade was good but there just wasn't enough on the sandwich to cut through the chicken. If I tried this again, I would probably try it on Sourdough. My fiancé first tried the General Tso taco made with Asian fried chicken, slaw, Sriracha aioli, cilantro and corn tortillas. The chicken again was a little dry and overcooked. However, between the aioli being spicy and the slaw being slightly sweet and wet enough to cut through the chicken, it made for a great bite. The tortillas were fresh and tasty. She also tried the Cinnamon roll. It was made with crescent dough and topped with homemade cream cheese frosting. This was absolutely wonderful. The cream cheese was light and sweet but not too sweet. The roll was flaky and buttery with a crunch on the outside and chewy on the inside. They offer several toppings and seasonal specialty rolls. DV8 Kitchen is a second chance employment opportunity restaurant. They offer people trying to redirect their lives while recovering from substance use.
