Planned a trip to DV8 for brunch a month before we visited Lexington, KY thanks to word of mouth. The people were staying with had never had the brunch at DV8, but raved about about the lunch/dinner options. We were very pleased with everything we got. We got the orange marmalade chicken biscuit, the chicken basil biscuit and the DV Ocho. All three were different and excellent. The orange marmalade biscuit was the most traditional brunch item we got. Tasty homemade biscuit, perfectly fried chicken and a not overly sweet orange marmalade. The chicken basil biscuit would be my go to lunch item if I were local. Same tasty biscuit and the chicken was so juicy. The DV Ocho was my dish and it was pleasantly hot. I cut up and used the jalapeños as I pleased, but the salsa, tortillas and egg/chorizo mix was all perfectly balanced. Finally we got the white chocolate and peach cinnamon roll...I wasn't ready for how good thing thing was. I'm not even a sweets person and couldn't stop picking at it. 5 stars and can't wait to swing by again. Side note: I personally really appreciate the focus on employing current and recovering opioid addicts. DV8 Kitchen is fantastic! I had heard great things about this spot, so while I was visiting my cousin in Lexington we decided to check it out for breakfast. Every item on the menu sounds amazing! It was difficult to decide what to order, but I could not have been happier with my meal! I opted for the Pimento Cheese and Chicken Sandwich on a biscuit. It was served with fresh hot chicken tenders, pimento cheese, blackstrap molasses, and fresh jalapenos on a delicious house-made Southern Biscuit. Seriously, writing this review is making me crave another one. It was so delicious! I ordered Tater Tots as my side, with sriracha ketchup, and those were cooked perfectly. My cousin opted for Biscuits and Gravy, and the specialty cinnamon roll of the day - Maple Bacon. The biscuits and gravy were not my favorite I have ever tried, but the cinnamon roll was delicious! This was our last stop before our road trip home. I absolutely regret not having breakfast here but I had read the cinnamon rolls were outstanding, and the reviewers were NOT lying!!! We grabbed coffee and the cream cheese cinnamon roll. Hands down, the best roll I've ever had. The employees were exceptionally friendly and we also purchased the marmalade/jam trio that is nicely packaged; perfect for a small gift. We're planning on coming back to Lexington again for a long weekend and this will be one of our stops for sure. read more

I had no trouble finding this place as I recall that it used to be a hot chicken joint that was underwhelming. Glad it closed. Anyway, there was ample parking as it was Saturday at 2 and it's summer, so the college kids are gone. Also, they close at 3. There were a handful of people in here. Moms with their kids and older adults. There was no line. I ordered a fried chicken sandwich with marmalade on it and chose the biscuit as the bread. It was crunchy and a good portion size. It could've been seasoned a little more though. My friend got breakfast tacos. There was a lot stuffed into each taco. She liked it but didn't think it was spectacular. Still, I'd come back here. There are other handhelds that looked good on the menu. Also, their sweet tea was amazing! Refreshing! They have free bread which you can spread with different things. You slice it yourself. They had apple butter, honey butter, regular butter, marmalade, and a strawberry jam. So yum!! Apparently, they hire folks who've just come out of jail. I'd like to see more of these social enterprises here! They are also Christian. We just recently moved to Lexington. Have not been to a bakery for a pastry and coffee since we got here. I read the reviews, and this is why we went. Also, the fact that they employ persons who have had a rocky start, to give them direction, an employment background, so they can pave a way for their future. I applaud that. The place is clean, young lady at register was friendly and helpful. THAT is the reasoning for the four stars..Coffee was good. But, I guess I expected more in the way of baked goods. If I was asked to give stars on the baked goods, meaning the pastry, I would give 3 stars for not having a larger selection. I ordered a chocolate croissant. Now, mind you, I LOVE chocolate, however, there is a limit to how much chocolate you should put on or in a croissant. I am used to the croissant as a small rectangular shape, with chocolate inside. NEVER on top. This croissant had so much chocolate on top, that you lose the real star, which is the flaky, yummy pastry. I had to literally swipe off the gooey chocolate from the top, so I could taste the flaky goodness. All in all, after I got to the croissant, it was actually good, buttery, and flaky. But please, if you, Dv8, are reading this, consider less chocolate! Hubby got the caramel cinnamon roll, again the pastry itself was good, but the caramel was a little much. We all ordered our food, and it came out fresh and delicious. We were overly thankful and stuffed. The food was very yummy. Well, of course it is a five star because they are dog friendly. Still, Fang passed his service test last week, he goes with me everywhere now. So, back to this place. 9am Tuesday, not busy. I ordered the biscuit because it is made in house. Good.... Next time I will try something different though. The breakfast sandwiches look yummy. They have several different types of brew here, but no cappuccino/latte etc. First I served myself the cold brew because I didn't read the label . After I got over the shock I realized my bad. Anyway, then I tried the hot coffee, because it is in the 30's outside right now. . The brew is GOOD!!! The counter help was friendly and she cleared my table quickly before I had a chance. It's been a few years since I've been back in Lexington and I'm always interested in seeing what's changed over the years. In this case, the old Coach House on Broadway was demo'd and made way for more modern spots, including DV8. I've never been to Coach House...last I heard that in the 90s it has long lost its luster (as the area was also not as nice back then) and brought us this fantastic spot. We arrived here by accident because we had intended on meeting some friends @ Bourbon n'Toulouse, but it was closed on Labor Day (as were many other restaurants). Luckily, DV8 was open. Very packed, but open. Their menu looked fantastic and I had a difficult time choosing but settled on the Pimento Cheese & Chicken served on a biscuit (instead of brioche). Look, I'm in town, kinda on vacation-ish, so healthy eating goes out the window. The sandwich was stacked so high that I had to end up deconstructing it. Each bite was glorious! Pimento cheese, the sweet molasses here and there, the delicious biscuit, and the clearly hand-breaded and perfectly textured chicken. It didn't have excessive coating at all, which made it great. I wanted to also get the cinnamon roll w/cream cheese frosting, but alas they were sold out. But the lady suggested the croissant with the cream cheese so I said sure, why not. I'm sure the cinnamon roll would've been fire, but this croissant and cream cheese frosting was fantastic! The staff was generous as it had been a long time since I saw my friends and we were there well past closing time, but the staff was great in letting us stay outside. I knew there was a new bakery/cafe in town and I knew it was in the old "big shake chicken" spot. That's all I knew. We walked in and we're greeted by a young guy who explained the menu. And we split a cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll came out first. Warm covered in a milk chocolate icing. (You need to get one or eight of these) The dough is not the traditional heavy dough, it's light and flakey croissant dough. The husband, who generally does not like sweet things, ate more than his share. He loved it! Well, we both loved it. I bought one to bring to my in-laws who were visiting today. At the counter, you are given a number for your order which they bring to you. There is a Coke fountain and fresh brewed iced tea. (The tea was delicious! Woohoo!) There is also a bread, butter and jam station. You can cut a slice of sourdough and slather it with honey butter, strawberry jam or orange marmalade. Then breakfast arrived. My sandwich has a poached eggs on it and was super messy. The husband could not get over how creamy his scrambled eggs were. Heck, if all scrambled eggs came that way, I might eat them. The mission statement is amazing. They try to hire people in recovery. That is amazing, people. Some people in recovery have a hard time with finding a job especially if they have a felony drug charge on their record. (How can they break the cycle if they can't find a job to help support themselves!?!?!?) Ok, I am gonna nitpick. But here is the bad about this place....the paper, made from recycled materials, napkins suck. I mean single ply to take take care of my fried, sticky, poached eggs sandwich...that just won't cut it. Stopped here for a late lunch (only 20 min before they closed) after driving to Lexington from Nashville. Immediately loved the casual/coffee shop-esque vibe and garage-door style opening that allowed hybrid indoor/outdoor seating. Got the General Tso's tacos, tater tots, and a special - the lemon lavender cinnamon roll because I was really hungry. The tacos were amazing -- sweet and a hint of spice, nice crunchy slaw and corn tortillas (the best kind). That alone honestly filled me up. The tater tots had a nice salty/spice seasoning that I really enjoyed (and the portion size was HUGE.) The standout of the meal to me, though, was the lemon lavender cinnamon roll. I wouldn't consider myself a huge cinnamon roll fan normally but LOVED the lemon lavender icing on this one. It was tart but sweet but herbal and cut made the whole dessert feel balanced but decadent (as opposed to overly sweet decadence, as I normally find cinnamon rolls.) It started pouring shortly after I got here (and I also got here super close to their closing time) and I loved how they let patrons finish their food inside before closing up shop. What an amazing find for a breakfast/brunch spot! Relied on my fellow Yelpers for this place and it is well worth the 5 stars for two reasons: 1) Food and atmosphere - walk into the industrial, modern-rustic venue and you immediately get "west-coast" positive vibes; everyone seems happy to be there. The line looked long but moved quickly- a very efficient operation. The food is really creative and the breads and other baked goods are baked in-house. I had the rueben breakfast and was blown away. A Perfect balance of salty corned beef with the subtle and tangy sauerkraut with the creamy thousand island sauce with a poached egg was really amazing and unique. Served with a thick piece of toast and a few crispy tater tots added that perfect crunch. The bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich served on a brioche bun also was really good. What made this sandwich stand out was the house-made sriracha ketchup which brought the whole experience together. For coffee you choose between a few self-serve options in to-go cups so you're ready to take a along a cup for the ride to your next destination. 2) I love the mission of DV8. You can tell immediately there is something unique going on at this place. I stopped one of the workers to ask what DV8 stands for. It stands for "Deviate"; or to deviate from your previous life into something new. He described that the workers there are all in some form of recovery program and would otherwise be "unemployable"- so DV8 is something like a "second chance" place. Workers participate in meetings to aid in their recovery and transition to a better life. How could you not get behind a place like this?!? Amazing, from-scratch food made not just with authenticity, but with a genuine social conscience. Most of the people working here are emerging from substance abuse recovery programs, getting a shot to work that often time isn't offered. The food is off the hook good. I had the monte cristo, with house ham and turkey, house made strawberry jam, on a huge croissant. I think it weighed a 1/2 lb. The tater tots are sinfully good. They make breakfast all day, and a great sandwich, soup and salad menu. House biscuits and breads.
