I had a haircut with Natalie at this salon. She did everything I wanted and more. I think she has a great sense of style and can make good suggestions if you are open to them. I am very happy with my haircut. I am looking forward to get more haircuts from Natalie and try some new styles. I feel safe and know that she will do great job! BEWARE of so-called deals/special promos at this place! Not even there yet and already hating Duque Salon... So, I bought into Duque Salon's Simple Solutions "special promotion," where I was to receive four services for $60. Sounds like a great deal, right? Wrong. Whatever you do, READ THE FINE PRINT. Alas, I was caught up in the saleswoman's pitch and I did not. (I'm still recovering from kicking myself.) --Not only do you have to visit the place SEPARATELY for each relatively small service listed (super annoying. why can't i get it over and done with in one to two visits?), but you must SPACE OUT each appointment by at least seven business days. Oh and best of all, they have "BLACKED OUT" almost all of the dates when you would actually want to make an appointment. NEVER ON WEEKENDS AND LITERALLY OVER A MONTH STRAIGHT OF BLACKED OUT DATES ahead of me... Oh and the their manicure and pedicure appointment for this promotion is basically just polish alone. LAME! Also, a DRY haircut? ugh... I'm looking into a refund now, which the receptionist there "didn't know" if I'd be able to get. Awesome. Duque has earned the distinction of being the worst business I've ever dealt with. I filed a Better Business Bereau complaint, and Duque manager Diana's mind-boggling response was to lie and insult me. I was accused of everything from failing to keep an appointment (that never existed) to just plain having ugly hair. She insisted that I should be grateful for all the staff did for me, and portayed wounded shock that I was ever under the impression that I would be paying what she had quoted me in writing for the services I scheduled. I am not, in fact, grateful, but I am considering sending Diana flowers anyway. After all, I feel some pity for what a dark world this person must live in for her to see her customers as such unpleasant necessities in the process of making money. read more

Last weekend my sister and I decided to step into Duque Salon to take a look around. We were immediately approached by an eager sales person/receptionist who introduced us to the owner, Giovanna, to show off her new lashes from their associated salon nearby called Shimmer. Giovanna proceeded to "sell" us on an event over the Valentine weekend where a make up artist to the stars was going to be there in the salon. She said she could hold a spot for us for $25, never mentioning that it was non-refundable! After learning yesterday that I have a severe flare up of rosacea, I was advised to not go forward with that salon service, so I called to cancel and also sent Giovanna an email in the morning. I never received a return call, nor email, so I followed up in the afternoon only to discover they had canceled my appointment! Nobody told me. When I asked about the $25 deposit, the recepetionist was extremly short with me and very rude. She said she'd call me back, and I asked her if she had my number; she said she did. She phoned and left me a message, so I called her back. She proceeded to tell me that if I was able to fill my own spot with someone, they would refund the $$! Like I have time for that?? She then told me how busy she is and that "as a receptionist, I have so much work to do; I don't have time for that!!" What happened to customer service? This salon/store STINKS!! Don't go and don't support frauds like this. I'm disgusted by their lack of customer service and "attitude" over the phone. Who needs it? read more

I've only had negative experiences in Duque (pronounced "dookie" perhaps?). The staff freak out on you if your phone happens to ring while shopping. It feels like their trying to go for the "high class boutique" atmosphere but they end up giving off "cheap and rude." Exactly a year ago I decided to try Duque as my favorite stylist from Habitude had left and I liked what Robert (correct name?) was doing w my friend's hair. Bad mistake. I believe that if one is to receive "bangs" they should be clearly discussed and agreed upon before hand. Especially when client says "I have curly hair so prefer longer layers in the summertime to weigh it down a bit." After an absolutely painful blowout (that they were clearly not interested in providing) and a surprise $100 bill, I walked out of Duque with totally obnoxious kept-woman hair and shorty bangs that required clips and headbands for the next several months. It was so bad at first that my guy and I had a comical photo shoot as soon as I got home, it got less funny once I washed my (aforementioned curly) hair and it got shorter, even less funny in the humidity of new orleans. I would never, ever go back and my friend has quit them as well. read more

Here at Duque Duque they must do some mighty fine hair, if the reviews mean anything. I myself have a sweet deal bartering for my own stylin' so I won't be needing these guys...but I did stop in a few times to peruse their attractive, sparkly retail wares. These guys think they're really cool and make you feel like you should get a credit check just to look around. I wandered in just the other day and there was actually what looked like a bouncer in the form of a heavyset (stylist without work?) chick in an apron standing, arms folded, feet planted shoulder width apart, seemingly blocking the back area with her body. Do they think it's appealing to walk into a shop and immediately feel the icy stare of someone who looks like they're guarding the place? I should mention that I wanted to look back there, where they sell clothes and makeup etc. She did move out of my way but there was a moment when I wasn't sure if I was to be allowed to shop...also some cute young dude (as if I need to say he's cute...he obviously KNOWS he is) who seemed to be a counter guy thought he'd be all tough and call off the sweet little Jack Russell terrier meanly, as though he was the dog's trainer. Let me say, the dog was the friendliest being in the place and I was enjoying his company. Come on, cute counter guy. You don't have to prove that you have control over a dog. Let me schmooze the freakin' dog, a'ight? He was sure as hell of a lot friendlier than you. read more

I was on a hunt for lingerie for my roommate's bridal shower, but too lazy to venture far from home. This led to me aimlessly wandering around Ballard without a clue of where to go and with only a little bit of time to figure it out. Then as luck would have it, I bumped into Miss Katie S. who is always in the know and told me that Duque may have just what I was looking for. And she was right. Don't let the name deceive you. Duque is not just a salon. The front room of the salon is devoted to accessories. Necklaces, bracelets, earrings galore. Head further back in the salon and you'll see they have a pretty cute selection of lingerie. The price was a bit steep and would stop me from shopping here for basics, but for a special occasion or splurge, Duque fits the bill. I would have been happy to rate Duque higher since I quickly found what I was looking for and the shop itself was cute, but I'm not big on people breathing down my neck when I shop. The girl working literally stuck closer to me than my shadow. I appreciate the greeting and your willingness to help, but please, let me browse without the pressure. read more

I bought a groupon for $35 for a Brazilian wax and 10% off a duque salon service. I had my first Brazilian wax with Lou. She's super-nice and very prompt at what she does. She was nice to chat with as well. I was happy with my results. She even allowed me to come back and use the 10% salon service for my second visit (because I came late for it on the day of my waxing service)--which was really nice of her. I don't remember the name of the woman behind the counter, but she was pleasant as well. All in all I am happy with my services and will definitely be visiting here again! Maybe even purchase something from their boutique. It might be pricey, but sometimes you just have to spoil yourself. ;-) read more

I bought a Groupon a while back for Duque Salon in Ballard, somewhere I had not gone before. I went for the first time about two months before my wedding so I could start catching up on my waxing before the honeymoon, and I also decided to try getting a brow wax which was new for me. The girl who worked on me, Lou, was amazing; super friendly and not awkward at all considering what she was doing, and I just have to say that I think waxing is FAR less painful than sugaring for your lady bits. She also did a fantastic job on my eyebrows although warned me not to touch them again before my pre-wedding appointment. They had grown out quite a bit by the time my final appointment rolled around a few days before the wedding and she was able to make them absolutely perfect. The prices were also quite reasonable and I'll definitely be going back for future maintenance. read more

I love this place! My cousin bought me my first pedicure here for my birthday, so I may be a little biased. They pampered us and gave me beautiful shiny toenails. The one thing that was not awesome was that it was very hot up in their nails salon attic with no air conditioning. I didn't mind that much, though, because I could just close my eyes and pretend I was relaxing on a tropical island. I can't say enough good things about Duque. I came to them over a year ago to fix my bad hair from another place and I've stuck with them since. Robert is truly talented and genuinely listens to what you want. He knows what looks good and understands how to create stylish, easy, no nonsense and expensive-looking hair. Their storefront boutique is awesome too! It's all really cute stuff and the assortment feels very curated. There's no junk they added in just to make a quick buck and everything has a cohesive part in the big picture. It's all priced fair too. I'm a huge fan of Duque. This is an odd salon. The hair cuts are not great and as others stated, they charge your credit card but don't warn you up front. My previous experiences here have included 'dry' haircuts (not necessarily bad but way too much flat iron for my taste). To their credit, I have never had a any other service besides a haircut, but agree with the others that a place filled with stuff to buy does not make up for the lack of quality. read more

No. Just no. I'd give them negative stars if it weren't for a nice selection of make-up and some lovely bags in the store. But. The Salon. Robert did my hair, and managed to not hear a word I said; while it was a nice job from a craftsman point of view, it was an entirely different hair cut than I asked for and it looked so bad I cried. Cried; I have never shed tears over a haircut before in my life. Overly pricey at that (price would be justified if I had got a stellar version of what I asked for, I suppose.) I'm not a woman and don't get my hair cut at Duque, but I always think they do a great job and she looks even more fabulous, and it doesn't take too long. Not a very suitable place for a husband to hang around waiting (unless you like looking at women's lingerie with funny sayings), but there's a Tully's up the road with free wifi. read more

My review is strictly based on my wax experience and it is long overdue! My girlfriend and I stopped in, in desperate need of a brow wax! She was visiting from out of state and had never had a professional wax before I on the other hand have been to lots of different places. I feel awful for not remembering the woman's name (she had short dark hair and moved to Washington from out of state), hands down the sweetest and most accommodating esthetician I have ever come across. BEST BROW WAX EVER and I wish they were located closer to me and I would go regularly. It was $25 and worth every penny. She had even given us an apple body scrub that she had made for us to take home and try. It was delish and I want more! I'm totally a fan of this salon and especially Robert. Like others, I was skeptical, especially after reading a few reviews here, but , I needed a change so WTH. My treatment could not have been nicer, from the front desk and throughout my entire haircut. Robert is gracious and professional and gives a damn good cut. Sure, the price is steep; if you are only looking at the price. Robert has consistently spent 45mins simply cutting my hair into beautiful shape. I have not been so happy with my hair in years. I thought I was stuck with middle-aged, "mom" haircuts for the rest of my days. Thank goodness I took a chance! One word: Horrifying It would be extremely hard for me to summarize my experience with less than 5,001 words which is the Yelp limit. Suffice it to say my experience with Salon Duque is the worst of my entire life. New to the area, and their salon they pressured me in to booking a 'half-price' lash extension appointment even when I repeatedly said that I didn't have enough information to make an informed decision. (After booking a blow-out/style, they called me to hard sell the lashes). They suggested I book the appointment, stop by the salon in the meanwhile to view living examples/pictures, and cancel within 24 hours if I didn't want them - of course taking my credit card number to secure the appointment. I was busy with work and moving that week, didn't get to stop-in and so called to cancel the extensions part of the appointment. One of the owners answered the phone and told me "Both my wife and daughter have lash extensions, they look very natural and are easy to take care of, you'll be fine." I reiterated my lack of information to make a definitive decision and said "If I don't want the extension I may try temporary lashes for the evening to see if I like them" - a service they also provide. No argument was made, just another -"Oh, you won't need to do that because you'll love them." I had a bad feeling about it, even then - and should have cancelled ALL of the appointment. Hind sight! (Everyone please listen to yourselves when this happens, we have gut feelings for a reason!) From the time I arrived the situation spiraled downward interpersonally and escalated with intensity for the salon to be paid - even before any type of service had taken place. The other owner, the wife of the man I spoke with on the phone, showed me her lashes. I was horrified. They were thick like animal fur, un-naturally shaped and looked like a strip from a make-up bush had been glued to her lashes. (She explained she likes them that way.) My reply, upon seeing them was polite, I told her I wasn't comfortable having the extensions but would like to try temporary ones for the evening. She would have none of it, and in the process of trying to strong-arm me said so many incredibly rude things that I can't even recall all of them. Even worse she involved the esthetician that 'would have' applied the lashes saying (in front of her) "How do you think she feels about losing the income she would have gotten from your appointment?" I explained that I had not been certain all along, that I was telling her the truth from my heart (I didn't want the extensions), and that there had to be a way to reach an amiable solution. She said "No! That's it - get out!" Among other things - raising her voice all the while in front of her staff (who seemed used to it) and customers. As I gathered my belongings she said their policy was to charge my card regardless of what I "felt" - to which I answered, "If you do, I will stop payment." BUYER BEWARE - Don't put yourself through this, or anything like it read more

If you want strangers to stop you in the streets and tell you how great your hair looks, this is the place to go. I have never had so many compliments on my hair in my life. Robert is fabulous. He completely restored my hair from horribly brassy to a beautiful vanilla blonde. Plus, I've never had a better hair cut. The layers blend together perfectly and my bangs actually stay in place with a minimum of styling. And he does the best blow outs. I make up excuses for my boyfriend to take me out on a hot date following every appointment just so I can show off my hair. Now that's my idea of a good cut and color. On a side note, I noticed that Loree B previously gave this place a bad review last year, apparently following an interview there according to her review. Guess she didn't get the job. Anyway, just thought I would alert others to some sham bad reviews that I've noticed keep popping up on Yelp. FYI, I'm not associated with Duque other than just being a client. read more

I have been going to Bruno for a haircut and color for over one year. This salon is one of the few that cut hair dry. I couldn't be more pleased with structure and style of the cut. I am not the type that knows exactly what I want other than, keep it out of my face, so, I don't micromanage. If, I knew what to do with my hair, I would do it myself. I hope to be going to Bruno for many years. Autumn is a jewel. She is the only manicurist who I want to work on my manies and peddies. I like dark red nail polish and, she is an expert in the application. The full manicure or pedicure is as good as it gets, she works out the kinks and stresses lodged in those places. The best part is her patter. I haven't laughed so long and so hard in a good long time. If, she should chose another profession I vote for stand-up comedy. Recently, I got brave enough to have my brows waxed. I am a bit past 50, so the white long hairs a la Einstein are beginning to beg for braiding! Sure, I have eyebrows but, as a natural blond they are invisible. Autumn shaped my brows and colored them! Unlike, Christine (Grey's Anatomy), momma done give me eyebrows! What I like best about Duque Salon besides the quality of service is the quality of the people and the almost Zen atmosphere. I feel special and, important. Bruno and Autumn devote their entire attention to me when I am having a treatment. The salon is whimsical, girly, inviting and comfortable. A cup of tea is always waiting upon your arrival. The staff (mostly family) genuinely like each other and support each other. It is a family I would like to be adopted into. The front desk is reminiscent of the gracious European concierge, attentive, alert with a touch of formality. I suppose as a Baby Boomer I am growing into service that treats me with respect. read more

Hands down the worst facial I've ever had. From the moment I made my appointment to the time I walked out of the salon, I was never impressed. I purchased a Livingsocial deal for a 30-minute Shimmer Facial with Eyebrow and Lip wax. Even though some of the yelp reviews of this salon are quite positive, it's not what I experienced. To start, the women that I made the appointment with over the phone acted like talking to me and making the appointment was a huge inconvenience for her. I thought it was a little odd but chalked it up to maybe she was just having a bad day. Then when I had to call and reschedule, it sounded like the same lady and the same bad attitude that I talked to before, so I assume this might just be her overall normal demeanor. It was not pleasant nor did it really make me want to go in for the service. Once I got to the salon, I thought the decor was nice and inviting but the woman who greeted me must have been the same one who makes the appointment over the phone... again same bad attitude. The esthetician started my service promptly at my appointment time and did the waxing first. The wax job was very poor and missed a lot so I ended up having to re-tweeze them after I got home. She then started my facial and it consisted of a wash with soup and a Clarisonic (I could have just used mine at home for free) and then a very quick steam with a few extractions. After both services were done, I was out of the room 5 minutes early and had soap residue all over my neck and face where she didn't completely wipe it all off. Basically, I got a glorified face wash, a few stray eyebrows waxed off and my skin was painfully dry. Overall, I was very disappointed with the level of professionalism and quality of this salon and facial. Save your time and money and go somewhere else!! read more

It had been a long time since I'd had my hair cut and it was not pretty. Bruno is an acquaintance from my local pub and he insisted I come to him for a cut at Duque Salon. I balked at the price -- more than my usual at Gene Juarez -- but he was confident in his skill. I also figured that if he gave me a bad cut, I would have ample opportunity to harass him about it at karaoke over the microphone. (Yes, I would do that.) I am probably a stylist's worst nightmare. I was raised by my father and can't style my hair to save my soul. I also don't know how to explain what I want very well. I'm just not hair-smart. Thank god Bruno picked up on this, and asked additional questions to make sure I would be happy with his work. Additionally, he explained why my hair looks like Gilda Radner's half the time and what I could do about it. (And he did this without selling me any product at all.) I left the salon feeling incredibly gorgeous and empowered to handle my hair which now makes more sense to me. It's been almost two months since my cut and I still love my hair. Thanks, Bruno. I get my Siberian Mink lashes done by Lou. She is simply amazing. Not only does she do such an intricate job, but she's is also just a wonderful person who cares about her costumers. She first introduced me to getting lash extensions and I haven't been to anyone else ever since. I have very sensitive skin, but I don't get any negative reactions whatsoever, and to top it all off, I get plenty of compliments. Having lash extensions just opens up and brightens my eyes, it is hassle free, because I don't have to take time to curl them, and have to deal with putting on makeup. I just brush them a little and off the door I go. I highly recommend Duque Salon, it is worth every cent. read more

Lash Perfection! I highly recommend Lou Heath at Duque Salon for lash extensions. I've tried MANY people and her technique is perfected. The lashes she uses are light and natural looking. I've been to other places where the lashes weigh down my natural lashes-which can break them. She also has a nice bedside manner- not too talkative - so i feel relaxed. David just moved from New York and is awesome!! I could not be happier with my hair, he is amazing with balayage and hair in general. He really knows his stuff and listens to what YOU want. I went to Duque for a haircut and a follow-up highlight the following week with the same stylist. In just a week, he had forgotten absolutely everything we had talked about. I understand he has a lot of clients, but I felt like a broken record totally repeating the whole conversation we had before. I was looking for a salon that felt comfortable and welcoming since I was new to the neighborhood. This is just not the place for me. It was a bit overpriced. They don't even give you a reminder call, but they want your credit card information if you don't show. Overall, I would rate it low on being comfortable and welcoming. I really don't ever "hate" places and I don't hate this place, but this place is definitely not for me. read more

Bought a groupon for this salon and have attempted to schedule the service twice and appointments available never seam to work in my favor The groupon is now about to expire and, of course, no appointments available. I asked if they would let me use it a day or two past the experation and was denied. As a result, I won't ever be going to this salon. My fault for not using the groupon right away but bummed that they wouldn't provide greater customer service, land a potential new client and allow me to use it 1-2 days after it expired. read more
