These folks are so friendly and helpful. From answering little questions to helping create a supply list from plans for a whole project, they jump right in. They are sometimes more expensive than the box stores, but the quality of the products (especially the lumber) is totally worth it. They also really impressed me by helping me find a solution when I ordered a bunch of 2×10s in the wrong length and needed to get replacements from two stores in a few hours to get it done. They stick with you, and service really makes the difference sometimes. read more

I'm a bit surprised by my experience at Dunn this week. I placed an order on Monday for 8 sheets of plywood sheathing to be custom cut for a roofing job. I requested pickup on Friday. I arrive on Friday and the staff seems very confused about my order. They locate my order it in their database, they have the notes about the cuts, but after 15 minutes of scrambling they can't locate the materials and no one seems to know if the cuts were ever made. Now I'm stuck waiting 45 minutes and I think one of their is working late. I choose to come here instead of one of the Box stores with an expectation of higher customer service, and indeed everyone was attentive and appeared to sincerely be trying to help, but their confusion and the delay are unacceptable. A professional lumber yard should have a means to track orders and have a job ready for pickup at the agreed time. read more

Everyone was super friendly and helpful. I was trying to match my original door trim and did not see anything on display. So they sat down with me and went through the catalog page by page until we found a great fit. They went over the math with me to make sure I was not buying too much material. While we are typically happy with Dunn's selection and have used them countless times for all of our home projects, I've been extremely frustrated on my last two visits by the way employees are handling covid-19 precautions. Or rather, not handling them. While there are a few best practice adherents, more than half of the staff wear their masks under their noses, constantly touch and rearrange their mask placement or don't wear masks at all, instead wearing kerchiefs that barely cover. Staff are in no way maintaining six feet of distance when helping customers in the aisles, either. I watched as employees moved closer to customers while showing products, even as customers moved away. Please help your employees be more vigilant, provide them with appropriate protection and insist they practice distancing. Thank you. read more

I've always thought of Dunn Lumber as the place to go for straight pieces of wood. My wife bought some treated plywood, at $64 a pop, and one of them was warped. We didn't notice it until later because it was in the middle of the stack, and we had had them cut it down to 93.5" (from 96") and so we couldn't normally return it. The manager quickly got back to me on this and made things right. I really appreciate the customer service at Dunn Lumber! I could go on about how knowledgeable all the workers there are and how great they are during these pandemic times (they allow you to be hands-off by ordering it from home and then they'll load up your car when you pull up). But, if you've been to Dunn Lumber, you know what I'm talking about. read more

I knew I needed to replace my deck boards and really had very little idea what to get. I went to Home Depot and got directed to aisle 25, which was bereft of anything that I could carry on a conversation with. Not finding any answers I pulled into Dunn. After I wandered around the store aimlessly, I was approached by John. He helped me make a lumber choice and made a great recommendation for a protectant product that I felt comfortable with...and stayed within my budget. He even gave me some great tips on how to cut down on the amount of waste lumber. I have always had the perception that the local lumber guys were much more expensive than Home Depot or Lowe's, but realize now they're worth looking up. I probably would have saved some coin on my garage project from a few years ago, too. Oh well. They delivered my products on time, dealt with my nasty driveway and the product was just right. Like all their locations - Dunn Shoreline is the place you can go for help, quality materials and decent prices. When it comes to most general construction projects these guys actually know what they are talking about. Their lumber selection is much more extensive and higher quality than anything you will find at Home Depot or Lowes. And there prices are generally equivalent to Home Depot and Lowes (or, with few exceptions, lower). read more

Had to share this in these really challenging times.... I was on my way to pick up my lumber order at the store on 185th but decided to stop and get a few plants first at Sky Nursery (next door to Dunn). As I was leaving the nursery, I called Dunn to tell them I was on my way over to get my order so they could bring it out to my car. Car wouldn't start! So I called AAA and while I waited for them I called Dunn back to tell them I was stuck with a dead battery at Sky and it would be awhile before I could get my order. Within 5 minutes two wonderful young Dunn employees walked over to the nursery to make sure I was ok and to ask if there was anything they could do. Now that is above and beyond service!!!!! They offered to bring my order to me so that once my battery issue was resolved I could just go home. And that is what they did! Wish I had gotten their names...hopefully this will get to their Boss and he will thank them for me again. People helping people...that is what will get us all through this pandemic. We considered using Home Depot for a deck project at our home. After much frustration, and realizing the cost wasn't appreciatively different, we ended up using Dunn Lumber. They were outstanding. Consider this example: We wanted to exchange 4 grooved decking boards for 4 straight decking boards. They only delivered two at 9:00 AM. When appraised of the error, they routed two boards from Kirkland to Edmonds. And, those two boards were the only items included on the delivery truck that arrived before noon! Do you think something like that would happen at Home Depot or Lowes? Don't think so. read more

Superior service!! This Dunn Lumber has the best quality lumber and very helpful employees who also help you load up and unload deliveries. At Riggins Construction LLC we spend quarter million or more per year on cedar alone and we refuse to buy it any where else but Dunn Lumber from now on. Local box stores like Lowes & Home Depot have some cedar and other lumber about 5% less but the quality is very poor. I have spent over half a million on supplies from Home Depot an 65% of the time I run into problems with lumber quality and delivery screw ups every week. Dunn Lumber only charges $20 for delivery, Home Depot is $80. Dunn Lumber has excellent customer service offering me a hand unloading deliveries every single time but Home Depot employees aparently are only allowed to deliver lumber on a Pro Truck if someone is there to unload it for them. Home Depot has a 3rd party company called Cardinal Logistics who handle there larger deliveries and makes mistake and damage about 20% of our customer deliveries but Dunn Lumber does it themself and quite well. Last year we spent 100+ man hours handling Home Depot screw ups, damaged deliveries, returned or exchanged screw ups, and constant other issues until I finally gave up shopping there for our customers. I am very happy with the thicker quality cedar Dunn Lumber carries. We have now done a bunch of Decks, Fences, Gates, Stairs, Handrails, Porches, and Pergolas all completed with Dunn Lumber product and they have not made one mistake, have delivered every order on time, and I have not had to return or exchange anything saving our company a ton of money and time. Dunn Lumber also carries beautiful quality handrails, composite decking, and hardwoods for our decks. I have installed Dunn Limber provided composite decking and Clearview handrails several times for tons of Shoreline and Seattle customers. These handrails are superior and Dunn Lumber makes the ordering and install process really easy. I have called the owner before to show appreciation and they really care about people. I still remember durring the recession a young man working there told me the store was taking a loss to stay in business because the owners refused to lay off employees during the slow resession, thats a company who really cares about people. I love these guys! I have only used them a few times (so far), but its always been a positive experience. I love their $20 delivery, as I own a short bed truck and some things just don't fit. I ordered some siding, and mistakenly ordered the wrong size, all my fault. I then ordered the correct size, and they delivered it the next day, picked up the wrong stuff, and didn't even charge me again for delivery! Awesome customer service!! HD could learn something from them, and I bet Dunn won't charge you for a plastic bag! read more
