I am updating my review. Now that we have lived on the floors for about a year, it has become very apparent that the floors were not leveled well. The LVP is lifting in areas because there are uneven surfaces. The LVP has lifted so much, that the boards are sharp where they have popped. I contacted Modern Flooring Services and they informed me that my warranty expired in February (2 months back) and that they won't be able to help me. This isn't a warranty issue, this is an installation issue. Don't use this company as they won't make good on their mistakes. They did offer to provide an estimate to repair the work, however. UMMM. We had a bit of a challenging project- replacing flooring throughout most of our house after a wildfire left it smelling like smoke. We also had to level the subfloor in one of the biggest rooms. It was a stressful time for us but Modern Flooring really helped to take the pressure off, and we had a great experience with them from start to finish. I loved their helpful but no-pressure sales approach and their transparent pricing. They were always quick to get back to us when we emailed with questions. Highlights: canceled two hours before start and couldn't reschedule until 2 weeks later, dropped in to find the key in the lock and the door unlocked with no-one around, came back to rough floors after choosing the "extra protection" two layers of Swedish finish and attempted to up-charge us $850 for an additional layer, 44 calls to Modern Flooring to work through this with 80% going straight to voicemail. The details: So here we are, refinishing existing oak hardwood floors in a home with multiple kids and a big dog. Swedish finish makes sense for the additional durability, and with quotes for either one layer or two, we opt for the second layer for "extra protection". Having a baby in the house, we planned a vacation after the refinish project so that the house would have plenty of time to set and air out. We moved all the furniture, arranged a place for the pets to stay, and awaited the big day... Two hours before the scheduled 9am start, we get a call that the installer had a family emergency and wouldn't show. We added a couple days buffer before vacation... but they weren't able to schedule someone until 2 weeks later, after our planned vacation. We considered other companies at this point, but everyone was booked at least a month out, so we were stuck with Modern Flooring. Round two... this time we get a call an hour before the 9am start, saying they needed to drive to Tacoma to pick up materials and wouldn't be there before noon. The car is all packed up, so we leave a key. I asked for the installers to give me a call when they arrive, but that never happened. Hearing nothing, I drove by the house the next afternoon to check it out. I find the door unlocked with the spare key in the door and no one around. I also find an empty trash bag in the front, sawdust around the outside of the house, and trash from their lunch around the house. But at least it was done... A few days later it is good enough to walk on. Expect the floor is very rough, with wood fibers poking through. There are scratches under the finish in several places, and there were two new gashes in the neighboring kitchen linoleum from the sanding. They also quoted us from three new drop-in vents, and those were never installed. So I asked Modern Flooring to speak to a supervisor, and to have an inspector come out and look at the house. Silence. Until I get a call from the installer that they can get someone to put on a third layer for an addition $850 (costs more as a rush job). I signed for it because we were tired of being in limbo. Round three... These installers (different team) were actually really good. They ironically showed up 2 hours early. But they described the process well, taped off edges well, and the finished product was the nice smooth floors that we anticipated. They put a water-based layer instead of the Swedish layer we were quoted, but we already had the nice Swedish color, and the water layer actually trapped in the fumes from the Swedish finish. They also commented that the prior installers probably didn't buff well between layers. Then came the money... Modern Flooring shamelessly asked for the full amount. I refused to pay the $850 as the first job should have been adequate, given that we were chose the extra layer. They said I signed a contract for the third layer, so I told them to take the $850 from the first job which was done extremely poorly. They countered with a $500 discount. I refused. Finally, they said they would remove the $850 if I paid in full that day. Done. Haggling over such a terrible job - they should be ashamed. read more

This was our first big home project and we couldn't be happier with the outcome! We had two rooms with carpet that needed to go and be replaced with laminate to match the rest of the house. Out of all the quotes I received Modern Flooring Services has the best price and listened to our request and even offered advice. The scheduling and installment team were amazing as well. Extremely polite, always on time, and kept us updated with any changes even after business hours. We ran into an issue with the first flooring material defect (which came damaged and was not their fault) and not only did they apologize several times but went out of their way to check every local store for stock and even helped to find an alternative choice the same day. We had vinyl flooring installed over a year ago in our home. Unfortunately, a transition on the stairs leading to the family room had come loose! The glue obviously didn't work. We called the store where we purchased the flooring and told them what happened. They called the installer, Modern Flooring, who in turn called us. They told us that the warranty on their work was only valid for a year but they would come out and take a look at it. An installer came out a week later. He not only fixed the one transition but realized that two others were loose as well and fixed those! He did all this work at no charge to us. Modern Flooring has some pretty awesome people working for them. They were quick to respond, polite and had solutions. I would use them again if I were to need new flooring. read more

We needed to install a tile backsplash in our kitchen and were referred to Modern Flooring Services by Installation Made Easy. They got back to me very quickly and sent Tim to do the measurements that same week. After he measured for the backsplash, I asked him if he'd be willing to add an additional service to the quote-repair to the floor transitions that we installed incorrectly when we put in our floors. He was happy to ask them to quote that as well, which was a huge relief for us. We accepted the quote for both services and received a call to schedule the installation for later in the month. We were impressed that they were able to get an installer to our house within 3-4 weeks of our original request, because all the contractors in our area have been insanely booked up. They sent Pablo to do the backsplash installation--he was extremely knowledgable and professional, and even made suggestions for the best style to install and places to start and end the subway tile which we were totally lost on. His tile work was stellar and it only took him a day and a half to complete. We are so happy with the final product. We did have a small communication problem with the installation manager. We hadn't been advised in advance who would be doing the flooring repair portion of the work, and because we had several other projects ongoing, we needed a heads up. It took me a full week to get confirmation Pablo would be coming back the following Monday to do the floor repair as well. That was the only issue, and I considered the whole process to be relatively painless. The floor repair also went extremely well--I honestly thought we had screwed it up beyond repair, but Pablo somehow brought it back to life. Pure wizardry. Modern Flooring did a great job with our floors. Communication was a little iffy from them but we were able to connect and get it all done in the end. However, some damage was caused by one or their subcontractors and rather than working with us to get the situation fixed and cleared up, they sent a payment link and some badly photocopied insurance information without any contact info, and have since then refused to answer any calls or return any calls asking for clarification or contact info for the subcontractors. This unprofessional treatment has completely soured me to a company that for the rest of the job was pleasant and professional to work with. I would not recommend hiring Modern Flooring because they won't take responsibility or follow up unless it's to get paid. read more

I used Modern Flooring Services for my recent home gym installation. I wanted to replace the old carpet in a bedroom to match it with the engineered maple in the hallway. The installer did an excellent job. They connected the existing wood floor in the hallway to the new one. The transition from the hallway to the room is seamless. You can only tell the new and old flooring apart by the age difference of the material. I'm sure this will blend better with time as the maple begins to yellow like the rest of the house. The installer removed and reused my baseboards as requested. All I had to do was run a bead of silicon sealer and paint the trim. They even reinstalled my closet door mounting plates in the same spot they were removed from. I'm really glad I didn't try to make this a DIY project. I literally paid $1,000 extra to be able write this review. They offered to take that amount off and make us sign a legal agreement not to write reviews. That's probably why there aren't as many bad reviews about this terrible contractor. We were fooled by their good pre-sale experience only to see their true face once the project started. They are rude, dishonest and have absolutely no integrity. They can lie about everything including little things that are not worth it. They would try to charge us for things that they didn't do because we wouldn't be able to tell. But we visited the installers every day and talked to them directly, that's why we caught their lies. The company itself does NOT execute the project. They hire subcontractors and pay them less than half of the total amount we paid. So, the only value they provide is a website and a pre-sale experience. They claim to do monitoring and quality control but that's a pure lie. Their employees barely visited the house. Their communication with the installers is very poor. We would visit the site and talk to the installers only to realize they didn't tell them to do half of the things we asked them to, and they agreed to. Examples of poor work quality and unfinished work: (1) Quality of refinishing is very poor. Wood color became splotchy after refinishing although it wasn't like that before. There were random dark spots (oil spills) everywhere. See pictures. (2) The guy told us the project is finished and came for a final walkthrough and he himself was surprised that the doors and quarter rounds were not installed back. That's the guy who claims to have done quality control. (see pictures) Dishonesty examples: (1) They didn't remove the appliances (fridge, stove, etc.) and didn't refinish beneath them. They also didn't mask them. Yet they wanted to charge us for that. We caught their lies because we asked the installers. (2) They wanted to charge us for three coats, but they told the installers to only apply two coats. When we caught their lie they secretly told the installers to apply a third coat without our knowledge (after the told us the project is done). Avoid working with them and thank me later. read more

Please bear with me, as this is lengthy but necessary. This company was actually contracted through LL Flooring when we purchased our flooring material. It was really hard to get a hold of someone when you call their office. On the first day the job was scheduled, they did not show up. After a couple days, we were told there was a scheduling issue which we overlooked. Then when the tile installer arrived, they took a few days and claimed the job was complete. You can see the jagged tile edges and baseboard holes in the photos. Then we found all of the demo trash and the beer cans that the installer left behind in our backyard. Another installer came to install our hardwood. After two weeks, the hardwood buckled and lifted off the base. We had a separate inspector come that stated it was not installed correctly. After a few months of back and forth, with Modern Flooring and LL flooring's corporate office in Virginia, the job is complete. It took 6 months from when they first stepped into our house to the end. Turns out Modern Flooring is a contractor that hires subcontractors. It was a traumatic experience. read more

The installers were absolutely great. They tackled all obstacles with a can-do attitude and never skipped a beat. Whatever came up, they just solved the issue and moved on to completion. Professional, respectful and listened to our every concern. We were very hesitant as replacing a floor is a huge expense and, if not done well, we have to live with the result. Hardwood Floor install. no showed/no called on day one. Arrived the following week and set up everything inside. Table saw and miter saw were set up in the dining room, all boards were cut IN THE HOUSE. Sawdust everywhere, including all in the HVAC system. Modern Floors ended up doing the very worst job, including a register that was installed 2-3 inches off center to the vent. The installers used regular hammers instead of mallets which created dozens of split ends and hammer marks -- which in turn caused the wood to splinter (I got a nasty splinter in my finger just touching it, see pic). The installers busted the water line to the fridge and it leaked for several days underneath the new floor (see pic). They used my hand towel to stuff the toilet drain. They ruined my carpet with adhesive glue/caulking. The installers said they ran out of wood and couldn't finish the job unless I purchased more materials (come to find out the remaining 7 boxes wood was 'accidentally' left at the supplier's warehouse). They never came back to finish the job correctly. Couldn't get a call back from the job foreman for 2-3 days. Horrible customer service, and simply ghosted me for days. The owner and other leadership of this company (family owned and operated) provided misleading information on every single piece of communication regarding insurance information, liability, refunds, etc. If you enjoy getting ripped off and hiring help from people who don't know how to do the job correctly, then this company is perfect for you! EDIT: in response to the owner's comments, I uploaded pics of saw dust on window sills, on picture frames and shelving, and even in the pantry all over the food. This is not 'industry standard,' this is simply an insult to someone's intelligence. Besides, you sent a different installer to supposedly clean the work area and my pictures are after he left. No one from Modern cleaned anything or did anything they said they would do. Your installers didn't replace anything regarding the water damage on the new floors, my pictures are evidence of this fact. Instead of offering a refund, you demanded me to sign a binding contract saying I couldn't write any reviews online or you would sue me at $5,000 each instance. All that jazz in your response is ridiculous, as a picture paints a thousand words. If you want happy customers, respond to really bad situations immediately (instead of days later) and stop subcontracting with people that don't know what they are doing. I am glad to see some negative reviews about Modern Flooring Services. Most of the time, companies get positive reviews and people who are unhappy with their work do not post, consequently there are no warnings about who to avoid. I purchased tile from Floor and Decor, and they recommended Modern Flooring Services. Unfortunately, MFS installers are not MFS employees, so there is no guarantee as to who they are or the quality of their work. Any license/bond/insured research will come up MFS instead of the fly-by-night installer that was sent. I was surprised at the amount of backtalk from this kid, Wes, who didn't know what he was doing. I should have fired him and broken my contract with MFS before noon of the first day, when Wes disassembled the back door lock. Instead, I put up with some crooked tile and a dare to re-do the job myself while the tile adhesive was setting. This convinced me that I could have done a better job, partially based on previous experience. I finally had enough when Wes decided he was so slow that he could complete the job faster with his little brother. When he showed up bright and early with his little brother, without MFS' notification or mine, the "work area" stayed locked and Vlad was notified that he needed to remove his installer from my premises. The most MFS can do about an installer that is this bad is to fire him, hopefully no more than once. I feel MFS would have a better reputation if its installers were its employees, which was the impression that I was given from Floor & Decor in the first place. Nobody can stand behind this guy's work, only MFS has his last name, and the replacement installers from MFS were unavailable to complete the job after the area that had the disassembled lock. Floor and Decor has marvelous tile. Henceforth, if I purchase any more flooring from them, I will do my own research as to who should perform the installation. read more

We began our journey 4 months ago by requesting MFS to install steps, removing the carpeting and installing bamboo. The bamboo is gorgeous when we picked it out at Floor and Decor, but the colors were of various shades not suitable to my Wife. We took several months before the installation was to be done. The MFS crew came in and removed the carpet, put screws in to stop the squeaky steps and installed the stairs and we couldn't be happier. Rock solid install, best looking steps and my Wife is a happy camper. read more

The installers showed up with no idea what the job entails ... to make matter worse, neither worker could speak or read english and they were trying to ask me what needed to get done and what areas got the laminate floor and where to install the two different vinyl floors. We ended up using a mobile translation app for Russian with some limited success. During the initial walkthrough, all I remember hearing was how important the level of the floor had to be (to within of an inch). So I paid for a couple of bags of leveling cement ... which the installers never used, yet the areas of the floor with significant dips somehow became level or at least it looks level. Additionally, we ended up with rolls of poly sheets (which I paid for) none of which were used ... I am not exactly sure what they were supposed to be for. Their installer's baseboard installation skills is not great, so if this is important to you, opt for a professional carpenter. Overall, the work, at best, was adequate. If this is the home you live in and you're real picky about quality, I don't think this is the company for you. If the home is an income property, then I'd say Modern Flooring Service is fine. read more

So, after our great experience in June, we decided to re-hire the company to install the flooring in our new bathroom and install tile and a niche in the bathtub surround. The schedule was screwed up first. Matt said the tile prep and flooring prep would start Thursday and all would be finished by Saturday. Well, they forgot to schedule the tile installer, the flooring guy didn't speak English, so he could only say he was a sub, and he only knew about the flooring. Finally, the tile guy started Saturday, but he wasn't informed about the fact the walls were down to the studs, so he came prepared for demo (3 hours late). He left to get tools and help and was gone another 3 hours. He showed up late each day for 3 days (3-5 hours late), and because he can't use a tile saw after 10 PM in a residential area, he took another day. The niche was a disaster and the tile work in the niche was a mess. It had to be torn out and redone 2 times before it was done correctly. When we installed the toilet, the plumber had to level it because the flooring guy used an inadequate amount of self-leveling cement. read more

*(Update), this review is for what I have experienced so far. We do have a case and have been contacted. we are scheduled for an onsite inspection and hope to have it resolved. I will adjust my rating accordingly through out the process. We purchased our flooring and installation services through Lumber Liquidators. Modern Flooring Services was a Sub contractor that did our initial installation. Everything up until the install went smoothly. We had a gentleman come to measure and go over some of the installation questions. I showed him where all the transitions were. There was linoleum in the kitchen and bathroom that was not the same level so there was to be minor transitions there along with some transitions from the new floor to carpeting in our bedroom. We had the top of our stairs landing that was to be covered along with some tile in front of our fireplace. Most if not all the initial communications went through Lumber Liquidators. We had over 1000 Square foot of flooring and ¼ round trim to be installed in our main living area which included bathroom, kitchen, laundry room, office, dining room, hallway and entry way. Were told on the phone the Install was scheduled for 3 days so when only 1 gentleman showed up that should have been my first concern. The installer was very polite but very little communications happened. Before starting he asked if it was just the front room, entry way and dining room, he did not know the full extent of the job before arriving. I mentioned to him that they had said it was a 3 day job and he said no, just 2. We walked through and he asked where the transitions were, and I showed him where they would be and after that he began going to work. That first day the gentleman was at my house until 8pm. Something that I found strange and a little unprofessional, but I was justifying this as I felt like there was only 1 installer that was trying to get a 3 day job done by himself. Before leaving he asked if he could show up early, which I agreed to. The next day as the gentleman was back to work he asked if we had any more padding to go under the flooring, I told him all the material that was here is what was ordered by the company. He said we would need more to finish the install. There was no mention of a change order or contacting his company to go over the process of purchasing more material, he had just asked if we had a store around that would sell it. Long story short I ended up running to the local store to purchase more so he could get the job complete. The next material issue we ran into was at the stairs, he asked where the Stair Nose trim was, I told him everything that was put in the initial purchase had been delivered and that's all I had. They never ordered any special trim pieces for the stairs. I was told I could order it online and install myself. As the day went on it started to get late, and I noticed there was still some work to do. Around 8 o'clock he stated that he had 1 more hour of trim work to do and then he should be done. At 12:30AM he final left my house. He did not go over a final walk through with me of his job. His only words were "do not step on the transition pieces for 3 days as the glue needs time to dry. According to the contract he was supposed to do a final inspection with me of the job, and I was supposed to sign off. This never happened. As we walked through the House, we found multiple "What... The...." Examples of what I would not call a professional installation. First off all the transition pieces he installed were installed with a flat/level transition strip, they were not level so he ended up gluing down the transitions with multiple brad nails in each one. (my wife has already scraped her foot on one of the transition pieces as there was a sharp brad sticking out between the bedroom and bath, and since then most if not all the brads are poking through the strips. As for the Transitions in front of the fireplace, there was no transitions installed, just a lot of silicone caulking to "glue the flooring down". There are multiple entry ways where on one side there was quarter round installed all the way around the door jam, then on the other side there is clear silicone spread in the cracks. I feel like the first day he didn't cut the door jams, then on the second day he remembered how to cut the jams so he started doing it the other way. Majority of the quarter round that was installed was installed as is, there is no "softening of the edges" just cut flat and installed. He ran our of ¼ round, so after that there is just clear silicone in its place. (My review is to long so i will be posting a picture with full review) read more

Totally bad experience with this company. Not sure about how they doing when your subfloor is perfect. If your subfloor is not even (I think it's common cases especially for basement concrete), please carefully considering hire this company. Most important thing is never believe their estimation on floor leveling, and they did terrible job on it. They won't (or doesn't have the capability) to professionally examination the floor condition. And they're willing to just pour bags of self levers into it(because they charge by bags). Which will not help on the subfloor with slope. Just pouring self levers is easy money for them. They just charge by bags but not resolve the real problem. After the pouring and received a huge bill, my subfloor is still not even. read more

I have put off writing this review for several months. Mostly because I was so angry when it was going on and I didn't want to write a review when I was in that state of mind. Also, the whole process was so exhausting that I didn't have the energy left to rehash the whole situation again. However, I live and die by online reviews and had there been numerous negative reviews (like there are now) when I researched this company in June of 2021, I would have never agreed to let them install my floor through Lumber Liquidators. This will be the first review I have ever written. I originally wrote out every single thing that happened during the install, but realized there's not even close to being enough characters for me to put it all in a Yelp review, so this will just hit the highlights. My project was a mixture of mostly solid hardwood, one room of engineered hardwood, and a small tile portion in the laundry room = 1550 sq ft total (my entire house). When Modern Flooring came to measure my house for flooring that I was buying at LL, I asked them specifically if they would be the ones installing the floor. They told me yes. What actually happened is that they subcontracted my $30,000 flooring job to a dude who had only done one tiny job for them. That guy ended up being a disaster. Reasons: -He lied and said that he installed the flooring for Tiger Woods, Shaq, and Penny Hardaway when he owned his flooring business in Florida (I could find no record of his company online, instead found his mug shot) -He was an ex con who spent 7 years in FL prison for trafficking meth. -When we expressed concern about our timeline since it was just him that showed up, he lied and insinuated that he had a partner that would be joining him on the job, but that he simply missed the first day because he had a doctor's appointment. That guy never joined the project. It remained just him and on some days his wife, who is not an installer. -He compiled boxes of what he called "banana'd" and "shit wood" and told me I needed to return them to LL because they were no good. When we showed up to LL flooring to return the wood like he told us to, he lied and told Modern Flooring and Lumber Liquidators that I had specifically picked out those boards because I did not like them. Total blatant lie. I assume that he did this because somehow, we managed to be several boxes short of wood. I guess he wanted to use it as an excuse for why he went through so much wood and needed extra? I don't think I'll ever fully understand his intent there. -According to LL, he used the wrong nails when installing the flooring and placed the nails two inches apart instead of 8 inches -He could not cut a vent to save his life and all of his cutting around doorways and cabinets were abysmal. These floors are so incredibly noisy and make awful creaking noises in numerous places. It is like walking in a landmine. He installed the flooring under the dishwasher without putting the stands back in place, so now they won't fit and we have to prop up the dishwasher with pieces of wood. He did other stupid things like dragging my furniture across rooms, getting dirty black hand prints on my couch, propping my stove/oven up by the top glass, etc. -He ended up rage quitting in the middle of our project without even telling us he was going and left all of the demo materials in our garage -He complained about what Modern Flooring was paying him the whole time he was at our house and frequently talked about how strapped he was for cash. Super unprofessional. Complaints about Modern Flooring: -We made it very clear to them that our project had to be finished by a very strict deadline and if it couldn't be met, we didn't want to start the project until after our company from out of state left. We were promised it would be finished in time. It was supposed to take 5 consecutive days (M-F). In the end, the project spanned over 58 days and a total of 13 trips out to my house. If my husband didn't work at home, I have no idea what we would have done. -There is an employee named Vlad who is the single point of contact for Modern Flooring (don't know his actual title/job). He was nice enough as far as his demeanor on the phone, but was overall useless to have as a contact. One of the most frustrating aspects of working with this company was having to deal with him. Vlad will not answer his freakin' phone and will not call you back. The only time you talk to Vlad is when VLAD wants to talk to YOU. He once went three days without returning my calls even though I left him several voicemails. He only called me back after I went over his head to the owner, Maksim. Vlad and team met our every expectation. Everything went as smooth as I hoped. Floors look brand new. Our home went from a dated 70's remodel to a fresh and clean modern look. They were very competitive on price. craftmanship was excellent. MFS was the only company willing to do the floor and tile and trim work. After 5ish months, my shower has to be completely redone. I had someone come to redo the grout since it was starting to crack and come apart and found out they didnt do the grout correctly, nor did they waterproof anything correctly. The floor tiles started coming out as soon as they went to remove the grout, which they said was not normal. I have sent a claim to them under their "warranty" but how can I trust them to fix the work properly? If they would have come and done the final inspection when I asked them to after the job was done, maybe this would have been caught much earlier.... read more
