For my taste, Tous les Jours edges out Paris Baguette. Both bakeries are clean and bright and spacious. I find the offerings at Tous les Jours to be in better shape -- generally less dried out. We got: a mango and cream filled croissant, an egg custard, a croquette, a spinach/feta danish, and a hotdog in pastry. They all tasted pretty good. The croquette has a bouncy dough and a crunchy outside as well as enough stuffings on the inside. TLJ sufficiently heated the savory pastries up for us (unlike the PB equivalent that was still cold on the inside). The team working at the bakery are mostly friendly and helpful -- the young guy at the cash register may be new -- he seemed more easily flustered, but the other servers were all very efficient.

They offer good options for special dietary needs. The vegan sandwich is based on Old Bay marinated tofu, and they are not kidding about that. It is really, really Old Bay flavored. The tomato and avocado livens things up, but honestly the best part of the sandwich was still the sourdough bread, which is fair enough for a bakery. The spread of pastries I acquired was resplendent in quality and variety, and I will be happy to continue trying out all the Black Market locations to see which one is the most convenient.

What really stood out was the customer service. The guy behind the counter found out it was our first time and immediately gave us a free scone, then took his time explaining how everything works. He walked us down the line, explained what each baked good was, pointed out the most popular items, and even shared his personal favorites. As busy as they were, they still made sure we felt taken care of. There was also a young lady bagging orders who jumped in and out of conversation while working--just as friendly and welcoming. Service like that is refreshing and definitely made an impression. He jokingly asked if he'd see us next weekend... and yeah, we'll definitely be back. The shop was clean, noise level was moderate, and there are a few tables if you get there early or get lucky, but most people seemed to be ordering to go. Lighting was good, and I didn't really notice any music. Price-wise, everything felt more than fair for the quality. They told us everything is cooked fresh daily and they basically go until they sell out--which makes sense given how much business they were doing. The food was excellent: fresh, flavorful, and a great mix of sweet and savory. Honestly, the only regret I had was not trying the breakfast sandwiches--we watched a few being made and they looked serious. Overall, this was an all-around great visit. Richard called me and wanted to make it right. I work not to far from them, but I had to get back for a meeting. Richard tracked me down brought the order to my job with gift cards. Today I just grabbed a hot matcha latte with pistachio syrup made with almond milk. It wasn't too sweet at all, right temperature. I don't believe I've gotten the pistachio syrup before but I liked it in the matcha.

Lights were on and no one was to be found. It looked open and the sign said they were open. We found two workers in the back area just hanging out saying they were waiting for their manager to return so they could return to work. Just as we were leaving the parking lot, we saw the manager returning with bags of booze. We asked him why they weren't serving and he said they were out of milk and showed us his bag which had a bottle of rum sticking out of it. All this went down while a family with their children were standing there waiting for ice cream... they too were never served. Avoid this place at all costs. I recommend the location in Annapolis if you want Rita's.
