I was very excited to find this place. The first time we ordered, the food tasted great, the restaurant was clean, and the customer service was excellent. However, on my second visit for dine-in, I was very disappointed to discover that the dumplings were raw inside. I ordered shrimp, pork, and chive dumplings. Because I have braces, I split the dumplings in half to eat them. When I opened them, I noticed the meat was warm but not hot, with no steam coming out. Upon closer inspection, the shrimp was gray and smelled raw, and the pork was still pink--clear signs that they weren't properly cooked. I've also seen a picture on Yelp of someone posting raw chicken dumplings from the same restaurant, which makes me even more concerned. Being pregnant, this experience has made me very paranoid about going back there. Usually, people eat dumplings whole without splitting them, dipping them in sauce, which can mask the rawness. But I urge everyone to be cautious and double-check to ensure the inside is fully cooked. Consuming raw pork or shrimp could lead to food poisoning or parasites, so it's better to be safe. read more

Let me first start off by saying I was quite hesitant about trying this location because of the area. Not that it's a bad area, it's just that it's not a typical area you would go for dumplings. But, my curiosity got the best out of me. I walked in and it's a small location, clean, staff is friendly. She asked if I been there before I said no, and she proceeded to talk to me about the menu which I appreciate it. I end up ordering beef dumpling combo. Found out all noodles are made there which makes it way better. The flavors of the dumpling are very flavorful. The Mrs. and I had lunch yesterday at Dumpling Queen which is located in a strip mall on the corner of Whittier Boulevard and First Street. To be more specific, it shares the same location with La Casita Olvera. The Mrs. and I arrived shortly before noon and Dumpling Queen wasn't busy. The restaurant has a small footprint. There are two banquettes on one side of the room and tables on the other side with a small bar type seating area in the center. There is also a spot where you can watch the dumplings being made. The menu is pretty extensive. Aside from dumplings Chinese delights such as Orange Chicken and fried rice are offered. We chose three dishes. The first was the Orange Chicken which was the best probably the best we've ever had. It was flavorful and had a constancy similar to Yangnyeom chicken and the pieces were bite sized. My experience with Orange Chicken from other places is that it is often fatty and the pieces are large. The next dish we had was the Beef Fried Rice. It was really good and had a lot of flavor. I liked how some of the steak had crispy edges to it. I don't know if that was intentional but if it wasn't then it was a happy accident. The last dish we ordered, at the recommendation of our server, was the Shrimp Dumplings which are actually stuffed with pork and Chive along with the shrimp. The Chive gave the dumpling some texture. Several sauces are offered to dip the dumplings in. Our server recommended the queen sauce mixed with soy sauce. It was a salty sweet combination without a sour aftertaste. We eat dumplings quite often and especially a lot of Asian food and spices. I had the beef and onion dumplings and I thought they were great! The spring rolls had a great texture. The scary part came when my friend ate the Dan Dan noodles. After a couple bites, her tongue went numb. She thought she was imagining it so took another 3-4 bites and eventually her gums were numb and she was scared to eat anymore. Again, we eat Asian food at A LOT of authentic places and have never had an issue. When we asked for an ingredient list of the Dan Dan plate, he just kept saying "sorry. Never had problem before. We make everything fresh." Eventually he brought out a bottle of oil they use in their cooking... Turns out it's used medicinally for NUMBING. Came here for lunch with my friends, three of us are vegan (we have been vegan for four years). We had asked the server if there were any vegan options on the menu, she proceeded to point out dishes that would work with our dietary restrictions, the green bean dish being one of them. We ordered the green beans and during the first few bites one of my friends noticed that there were pieces of meat throughout. We confirmed with the server that the green beans dish (which she had recommended as a vegan options) was in fact made with meat. We politely explained to her that the dish is therefore not vegan, not even vegetarian, which she then unnecessarily proceeded to bring the chef out to explain how the dish is made. All in all the situation was handled poorly and unprofessionally and we even had to beg for our dish to be compensated. read more

I've been wanting to try Dumpling Queen for a while and finally made it. I was not disappointed! The service here was absolutely horrible. One of the dishes from our order was never made. I followed up multiple times as we watched other tables who arrived after us receive the same dishes we had ordered. When I asked about it, the woman at the front kept saying "it's coming." She claimed they make everything fresh and that's why it was taking so long, but that was clearly not true. I could see the dumplings were premade in the back. I explained to her that other tables got the exact same dish after arriving later than us, but she still refused to acknowledge anything was wrong. There was no apology, no accountability, just more deflection. After waiting over 30 minutes, I saw the chef come out front and asked him directly. He told me there were no orders left to make. When I brought this up to the woman, she insisted he was making it right then. What she didn't realize is that I understand Chinese. I heard her ask the chef in front of me, and he clearly said he was not making anything. She turned back to me again and repeated that it was being made and would be out soon. She lied to my face multiple times and gave me attitude as if I was the one causing trouble. The food was decent, but after an experience like that, I will never be coming back. read more

Food: Spring Rolls, Dandan Noodles, Pork and Cabbage Dumplings The restaurant that was previously in this exact spot did not last long, and I was hoping that something good and sustainable would swoop in... I think Dumpling Queen is that spot! As a Dandan fiend, and living super close to Dumpling Queen, I knew that it was only a matter of time before I found myself here. Upon entering we were greeted and helped with the menu. The menu itself is quite small, but means they are usually pretty good at making the few items they offer. Everything we ordered was on point! The spring rolls (you probably know them as egg rolls) were probably some of the best I've ever had. I know that is a bold statement, but it is true! They are crispy on the outside, and packed with veggies on the inside. None of that oily veggies crap you get at some other spots. The dumplings, oof, the chef's kiss. The meat inside is nicely spiced, and everything goes so well together. Try some of the spicy garlic sauce they have at the sauce bar to elevate them even more. The Dandan: the noodles are long, and nice and chewy (exactly what you are looking for in a good Chinese noodle). The sauce is peanuty, and bodes well with the beef that you are given, but... it is lacking in depth in my opinion. At first bite its delicious, but this doesn't have any complexity to it like some of the other Dandan's I've had elsewhere. I'm not hating, as I would eat it again and again, but it's just alright in my humble opinion. Restaurant: Inside there is plenty of tables, and it is nicely decorated. There is a window where you can see the dumpling maker herself rolling out and stuffing dumplings for days. Also there is plenty of parking in front of the restaurant. First time I went, it was their first week opening. we waited forever for our food, so I was inclined to give them one star. However, their food was good, so I thought I would wait until I give them another chance, Then the last time I went, things changed- we ordered and within 5-10 minutes we got our food. The waitresses were also very friendly and checked in on us, even though it's not a sit down thing. We ordered all of their dumplings, which we all liked (I recommend their house special though), and with the check in we got the egg rolls. Although I'm a bit apprehensive about a 4 star review after a quick visit, I really did enjoy the dumplings. The small shop in a local mini mall is a bit out of place amongst the many Latino inspired eateries that have flocked to Whittier as of late. Out of place, but extremely welcome. No longer will I have to go over the hill to Rowland Heights to get decent Asian food. We ordered the beef and onion and the pork and cabbage. They gave us one of each sauce. The mala sauce, while not spicy, is great. You have to like peanut and ginger though. If you don't, go with the other sauce. You get 12 with each order, which is perfect to share or just enough for a meal. They are served on a bed of carrots and cabbage which I also gobbled up. I want to say Din Tai Fung soup dumplings are tastier, but these are bigger- that goes a long way in my book. There is a condiment bar inside that has chili's and jalapeños. If I had one critique of the dumplings, I do think they need a bit of heat. So grab some chilis if you want. I also appreciate how they've included the prep area behind glass near the register. You can watch them make your dumplings to order which is a nice touch. I will definitely come back to try the noodles and sides, as well as some more dumplings. We got takeout for dinner here on a Saturday night. Our first visit. It's in East Whittier, almost to La Habra. It's located in a row of retail businesses on the south side of the street. Watching the dumplings being handmade while we waited for our order was interesting. The small dining area is clean and comfortable with tables and a counter area for individual dining. They have a customer restroom. We got one "Dumpling Bowl Combo" (12 dumplings - pork & cabbage, 1 spring roll, and drink) for $14.99, and the "Noodle Bowl Combo" (Dandan noodle, 1 spring roll, and drink) for $13.99. The menu marked the dan dan noodle as spicy. The food was still warm by the time we got home. Perfect! We shared the noodles and dumplings. We each got a spring roll. Both of us enjoyed the food and look forward to eating there again. The spicy dan dan noodles were mildly spicy, which was good for me since I don't care for spicy food. All the food was delicious and tasted fresh. Great dumplings. Crunchy, light, and tasty spring roll. One of the two sauces was spicy - too spicy for me. My husband liked it. It did have a nice depth of flavor. The other sauce was flavorful, too, and a nice complement to the dumplings. I recommend ordering ahead if you are in a hurry. As you walk in, go straight to the back of the restaurant and you'll order at the cashier. As you approach the cashier, there's a self-serve pickled pepper and kim-chi bar. The ordering is pretty straight forward but right off the bat you should know that they do not have free water. If you want water, it's $1 for bottled water but they will provide you with a cup for ice. The shrimp toast was not bad. For those who are Chinese or are familiar with the Chinese donut (aka yow jah gwhy or you tiao), it has the same texture with some ground shrimp along the top. It came with a dipping sauce that was pretty good. The pork and cabbage dumpling was okay, IMO it lacked some flavor and the skin to the dumpling is a bit on the thick side. The Beef Liang Pi Bowl comes with wide rice noodle. The dish is not served hot but rather lukewarm. You'll want to mix it all up before you eat it. It's kind of like a rice noodle version of Korean bibimbap. It had a slight mild spice to it but wasn't overwhelming. Again, could use a little more flavor/spice. If anyone's wondering about the 1 piece crispy chicken wing, welp, that's what it is. 1 piece that is stretched out onto a skewer. The skin was crispy and had some pepper on it but ours was dry. And for $4.59, WAY overpriced...maybe $2.50 but almost $5 bucks after tax, probably won't order it again (see picture). I might change my rating now that I've lowered my expectations and try some of the other dumpling flavors...we'll see. read more
