I came here with a good friend for lunch who recommended this place and is very familiar with the area. We shared an order of pork and chive dumplings, shrimp siu mai, and shrimp and chicken potstickers. All the food was good and our favorite were the pork and chive dumplings. I was sorta confused as to what the order of things were here like if we ordered 1st then sat down? There's just a register near the kitchen and that's about it. There's no counter or podium to go to. We ordered and then paid at the register. We ordered to eat there or dine in and not to go. If we wanted water we were shown where the dispenser was to get it ourselves. Our food was brought to us in meal prep to go containers which, was fine although we ordered it for dine in. The containers can be convenient if there's leftovers. Then we were given 2 sets of chopsticks and a few napkins. There was chili oil on the tables and the food came with 2 sauces. I went to ask if there was chili oil served with the food and mixed with the sauce. Then the employees told me to use the table one and to mix it ourselves. We weren't asked if we wanted any other sauces, if we needed anything else, and were not given plates or offered. Apparently, it's too much to serve chili oil already mixed to customers? So they're left using the chili oil on the tables that have been sitting there for who knows how long. I went to the register and saw the plastic forks and took a couple, took some soy sauce packets, and also asked for plates. I was given 2 small cardboard trays that usually French fries are served in. I was caught off guard that there weren't any actual plates or silverware. Or could there at least the normal sized paper plates? I mean they must save a lot of time not having dishes to wash but I've never been to a restaurant where there was absolutely no dining ware or silverware available or in use. Another table near us received service and was asked if they needed anything else or wanted more sauces etc. So maybe it's possible that us not receiving any service was a one time occurrence? But in our case I didn't really see the point in ordering the food to be eaten there when the food will be served in to go meal prep containers even if they're dine in. I'm not sure why you pay ahead and the receipt asks for a tip before receiving service, and we didn't receive any service. The food was good but the service wasn't good at all. Then we weren't offered plates either but, there aren't any plates to be had? I'm not sure what customers are supposed to be tipping for ahead of time in this case. And the lack of dishes or silverware is pretty odd. They used to have dining ware for those dining in before they closed per older pics. read more

I had takeout dumpling soup -- delicious! I found this place while road-tripping in way up Northern California and just had to look up some dumplings to satisfy my craving. The food was great. After careful consideration, all in all it was flavorful, filling, and delightful. Staff were friendly, and the service was quick. We ordered pan fried dumplings and steamed. Pan fried is definitely the way to go! The chicken and noodles are also really good, however I definitely recommend getting it with rice rather than noodles. I'm glad there's space to eat outside because the inside smelled overwhelmingly like cleaning product. It was also stuffy, so we just grabbed a sauce bottle and sat outside, to which someone delivered our food which was nice. We got the chicken and vegetable dumplings, calamari, and pork potstickers. Different restaurants have different interpretations of calamari; this calamari is chewy and in large rings. It's best dipped in sauce since the breading doesn't taste like much. The dumplings and potstickers were in good portions. The difference between them is that one is fried and the other is steamed. Personally, I liked the potstickers more. All the foods were juicy inside. Overall I think you get the bang for your buck here. The service was quick and it's a no-frills spot. This isn't the same Dumpling House anymore. I used to love coming here during my studies in Davis. They closed for awhile and after reopening it's never been the same. My first complaint is the plastic trays even for dine in orders. The pandemic is behind us, so you really don't have an excuse to not use dishes, especially in an environmentally conscious city like Davis. The second, and biggest, complaint was the inconsistency in the dumplings. The pan fried dumplings (which were way better) were completely different from the steamed ones. I love the simplicity yet tasty, filling eats of Dumpling House! Located in Downtown Davis, so expect street parking. Their location is found in what looks like a mini plaza, next to other businesses. The inside is pretty spacious. On sunny days, you can enjoy your food on their patio. As you enter, you'll immediately be greeted and be seated (unless it's busy). You order at their register which is right by the entrance then it'll be served to you. My sister and I ordered the Shrimp & Chicken Potstickers and the Pork & Chives Dumplings. They came out hot and fresh and in a timely matter! Both tasted amazing! Both were surprisingly bigger than what I expected. Like I said, I love the simplicity of Dumpling House because they don't serve your potstickers, dumplings, etc. on a pretty dish; they're placed in those meal takeout/ meal prep containers, because I think they know that after eating maaaaaybe half, you'll be so satisfied and full! I love dumplings so definitely need to stop by here since I'm in Davis. Came here Friday at 11:30 for lunch. They offer indoor and outdoor seatings. Grab a menu and order at the counter. The person that took my order was super easy to talk to, nice and friendly. My sister and I ordered pan fried (+$1) pork dumplings, pan fried (+$1) chicken and corn dumplings, pork and shrimp wonton and shrimp and pork siu mai. Food took 10-15 minutes to come out. All the food was piping hot. Definitely need to let them cool before consuming. Don't want to burn yourself :). Pan fried dumplings were perfectly fried. Had the perfect balance of crispiness. Because the dumplings were pan fried, they were a little greasy. Fillings were juicy and flavorful. Delicious! The wontons and siu mai were also good but I like the dumplings more. Everything were packed in takeout containers. I guess it is easier so don't have to ask for boxes for leftovers. My sister and I ordered too much so we definitely needed to pack the rest home. I was able to obtain my food via the farmer market stand they had, so ambiance will not be accounted for. The service was good, the lady seemed really nice and I got my food immediately (they were premade). I personally got the kimchi and pork dumplings, and let me tell you, they were worth EVERY penny!! The dough used in the dumplings was delicious and thick while the inside had plenty of pork/kimchi which is the way I love my dumplings. They were SUPER plump. It was love at first bite, I could tell the ingredients were fresh. The pork + kimchi combo inside was savory and immensly pleasant. The pork inside was juicy and flavorful while the kimchi provided a little kick that only got more and more prominent the more I ate them. The ingredients were working together in harmony instead of having one overpower the other, which I was worried about given how strong kimchi can be. We were on our way back from a second day of snowboarding and we didn't want to do our normal Fuji Sushi treat. We decided to expand our horizons and our belly. We saw that Dumpling House was open and had fairly good ratings and we love a dumpling....not sure why, maybe we're dumplings, but hey I digress. Definitely don't come hungry because there is a wait regardless of whether or not there's a line or not. L O C A T I O N Dumpling house is in a small complex located on E St. Funny enough I know this spot well as in the same complex, I used to come specifically for a Japanese restaurant that served the best cold noodle salad and chicken nanban. Man, I wish she didn't retire as well as retired her salad dressing. Anyways again I digress. Parking is a pain. It's a busy street with only street parking in front otherwise, you'll need to park further away. We lucked out and someone came out of a spot directly in front. I N S I D E There's probably 5-ish tables inside and roughly about the same amount outdoors. You can enter from either door street side or in the middle of the courtyard. M E N U Dumplings. They sell dumplings. It's in the name. So you can get your dumplings steamed, panfried, deep fried, etc. They also sell noodle and rice dishes, appetizers, dim sums, won tons, greens and well they also sell fish and chips because they share a space with a fish and chips place. Just note that anything pan fried ends up taking longer. Steamed dumplings already take 10-15 min so keep that in mind. Everything came out in to-go containers. Another thing to keep in mind, if you have dinner, some dumplings will already be sold out by dinner time. We got the shu mai, chicken and shrimp steamed dumplings, and pork and vegetable potstickers. The shumai is a little more expensive a little over $1 a piece vs. the other dumplings were about $1 a piece. You're like whoa....a $1 a piece? But they're fatty people. They're so thick. I could eat maybe 4 and be full but being me, I just didn't stop. The shu mai was probably the more flavorful item we had. The chicken and shrimp steamed dumplings felt healthy. I don't know how to describe it. It felt like I was eating something not bad? But then again I felt like it was lacking seasoning or any flavor. It was fairly bland? Maybe that's why it felt healthy. The pork and vegetable potstickers were super oily. I get it. They're pan fried in oil. But afterwards when I was burping up dinner, it was oil I was burping. I had to always wipe my mouth after eating the potstickers due to the oiliness. Again not very seasoned or flavor outside of the oil. Each of the dumplings had their own dipping sauce which was much needed due to the lack of flavor. I preferred the potsticker dipping sauce. It had some green onions or scallions in it. S E R V I C E Service was great! Friendly and patient. Very upfront with how long food would take to get. Easily paid with credit card. O V E R A L L I can see why people give this high ratings. I'm new to the Davis food scene but when I saw all the excitement about Dumpling House being back in action I knew I had to give them a try. I love the cute location they're in with the indoor and outdoor seating options. They serve everything to-go but the open seating is very welcoming and with the large portions it's nice to have the to-go containers right away. You can call in your order or walk back to the small desk where a staff member will help you out. They do run out of items, everything is made fresh, so be ready to change up your order if your first choice is temporarily gone. I have tried the shumai, kimchi pork dumplings, wonton soup and green beans and all of of it has been delicious!! You can order most of their items as dumplings, potstickers or in a broth depending on your mood and from what I've seen they're all great choices. Once you order you'll get a receipt and order number and depending on how busy they are the orders come up pretty quick so be sure to listen for your number. I haven't tried it yet, but this spot also does fish and chips which I'm really curious about. This also adds an option on top of their appetizers, noodles and veggies to cater to anyone in your dining party or just mix things up if you're a regular. I was excited to hear this place opened! I never got a chance to try it during my time at Davis because it never reopened but I was able to try it during my trip there. I honestly think if I was still in college, these would be the best tasting dumplings but I thought they were average. They're just your regualr potstickers but the unique part is that they pan fry the sides of the dumplings rather than the bottom of the dumpling. The sauce they provided was really light in flavor. It wasn't my favorite since I like heavier flavors but it's definitely a good spot for students. Pricewise, I thought it was a little expensive. Wait times were okay. I had to wait 15 minutes for my order and it came out hot and fresh! Overall, worth it if you want something convenient and nearby you but not worth it if you can go to other places. read more

Everything was chewy from having been frozen and completely flavorless. Literally, you would not know what you were eating with your eyes closed. Even the calamari was rings of tissue that might have once been squid, but I wouldn't swear to it. On the up side, service was friendly and quick. Won't be going back. To be honest, I was hesitant to try it because I thought "they're just dumpling I can get frozen ones from the store" but my friend introduced convinced me to give them a try and I'm so glad he did because the dumplings are soooooo good! Order at the counter and they bring your food to you. - everything (whether you dine-in or not) is served in plastic disposable takeout containers. - there are tables available if you opt to dine-in but beware... the tables are not attended to, cleaned or wiped down after each use. Needless to say most of them are dirty. - the dumplings taste the same as before but the dumpling skin seemed thicker. The staff were a bit curt to borderline rude. I got some pork pot stickers and some kimchi pot stickers this summer and they were great! Good quality filling, really delicious house made sauce, and fabulous crunch and crispiness on the outside. I didn't get to eat dumpling house for so many years when the fire happened and then the pandemic, so it was great to enjoy some dumplings from my favorite place again.
