Found this little gem passing through Davis. My girlfriend and I love to eat dumplings and when it's a hole in the wall spot you know it's fire. There's nothing that stands out about this place. This isn't the same Dumpling House anymore. I used to love coming here during my studies in Davis. They closed for awhile and after reopening it's never been the same. My first complaint is the plastic trays even for dine in orders. The pandemic is behind us, so you really don't have an excuse to not use dishes, especially in an environmentally conscious city like Davis. The second, and biggest, complaint was the inconsistency in the dumplings. The pan fried dumplings (which were way better) were completely different from the steamed ones. The steamed ones were also really flat and lacked filling. I am very disappointed that this place has changed so much and cannot recommend it to friends anymore. read more

I love the simplicity yet tasty, filling eats of Dumpling House! Located in Downtown Davis, so expect street parking. Their location is found in what looks like a mini plaza, next to other businesses. The inside is pretty spacious. On sunny days, you can enjoy your food on their patio. As you enter, you'll immediately be greeted and be seated (unless it's busy). You order at their register which is right by the entrance then it'll be served to you. My sister and I ordered the Shrimp & Chicken Potstickers and the Pork & Chives Dumplings. They came out hot and fresh and in a timely matter! Both tasted amazing! Both were surprisingly bigger than what I expected. Like I said, I love the simplicity of Dumpling House because they don't serve your potstickers, dumplings, etc. on a pretty dish; they're placed in those meal takeout/ meal prep containers, because I think they know that after eating maaaaaybe half, you'll be so satisfied and full! I was able to obtain my food via the farmer market stand they had, so ambiance will not be accounted for. The service was good, the lady seemed really nice and I got my food immediately (they were premade). I personally got the kimchi and pork dumplings, and let me tell you, they were worth EVERY penny!! The dough used in the dumplings was delicious and thick while the inside had plenty of pork/kimchi which is the way I love my dumplings. They were SUPER plump. It was love at first bite, I could tell the ingredients were fresh. The pork + kimchi combo inside was savory and immensly pleasant. The pork inside was juicy and flavorful while the kimchi provided a little kick that only got more and more prominent the more I ate them. The ingredients were working together in harmony instead of having one overpower the other, which I was worried about given how strong kimchi can be. The pork & chive dumplings were good though! I very much enjoyed taste and sauce. It was a good amount of filling in the dumpling wrapper and it felt like a good, hearty serving. I love dumplings so definitely need to stop by here since I'm in Davis. Came here Friday at 11:30 for lunch. They offer indoor and outdoor seatings. Grab a menu and order at the counter. The person that took my order was super easy to talk to, nice and friendly. My sister and I ordered pan fried (+$1) pork dumplings, pan fried (+$1) chicken and corn dumplings, pork and shrimp wonton and shrimp and pork siu mai. Food took 10-15 minutes to come out. All the food was piping hot. Definitely need to let them cool before consuming. Don't want to burn yourself :). Pan fried dumplings were perfectly fried. Had the perfect balance of crispiness. Because the dumplings were pan fried, they were a little greasy. Fillings were juicy and flavorful. Delicious! The wontons and siu mai were also good but I like the dumplings more. Everything were packed in takeout containers. I guess it is easier so don't have to ask for boxes for leftovers. My sister and I ordered too much so we definitely needed to pack the rest home. I've been waiting to try Dumpling House since my freshman year, so I was really happy that they reopened in time this year before I left! They have a ton of items on their menu to try from. I think their sauce is yummy and has the right amount of vinegar. Wait time varies depending on the time of day, but you can always call in an order. My only complaint is that the dumplings can be really inconsistent at times, as the wrapping might fall apart easily or the flavor in the filling is just lacking. For that, I would rate this spot as a 4/5 overall. PORK AND VEGGIE DUMPLINGS: 4.5/5 This is my favorite item here! Juicy pork filling and soft but put-together wrapping. No complaints unless it's a bad day for dumplings. I actually prefer these over the potstickers now. PORK AND VEGGIE POTSTICKERS: 4/5 I used to like these more than the dumplings, but I think the potstickers can be really inconsistent in texture and wrapping. This isn't any different than the dumplings other than that the sides are pan-fried. GREEN BEANS: 3.75/5 Super garlicky and delicious! We had a craving for fish and chips, and since this is in the same location as London Fish and chips we thought we would give it a try. Maybe their dumplings are okay; their fish and chips weren't. Everything was chewy from having been frozen and completely flavorless. Literally, you would not know what you were eating with your eyes closed. Even the calamari was rings of tissue that might have once been squid, but I wouldn't swear to it. On the up side, service was friendly and quick. Won't be going back. We were on our way back from a second day of snowboarding and we didn't want to do our normal Fuji Sushi treat. We decided to expand our horizons and our belly. We saw that Dumpling House was open and had fairly good ratings and we love a dumpling....not sure why, maybe we're dumplings, but hey I digress. In short, a busy place due to lots of food for the price, but the dumplings were just okay and potstickers super oily. Definitely don't come hungry because there is a wait regardless of whether or not there's a line or not. L O C A T I O N Dumpling house is in a small complex located on E St. Funny enough I know this spot well as in the same complex, I used to come specifically for a Japanese restaurant that served the best cold noodle salad and chicken nanban. Man, I wish she didn't retire as well as retired her salad dressing. Anyways again I digress. Parking is a pain. It's a busy street with only street parking in front otherwise, you'll need to park further away. We lucked out and someone came out of a spot directly in front. I N S I D E There's probably 5-ish tables inside and roughly about the same amount outdoors. You can enter from either door street side or in the middle of the courtyard. M E N U Dumplings. They sell dumplings. It's in the name. So you can get your dumplings steamed, panfried, deep fried, etc. They also sell noodle and rice dishes, appetizers, dim sums, won tons, greens and well they also sell fish and chips because they share a space with a fish and chips place. Just note that anything pan fried ends up taking longer. Steamed dumplings already take 10-15 min so keep that in mind. Everything came out in to-go containers. Another thing to keep in mind, if you have dinner, some dumplings will already be sold out by dinner time. We got the shu mai, chicken and shrimp steamed dumplings, and pork and vegetable potstickers. The shumai is a little more expensive a little over $1 a piece vs. the other dumplings were about $1 a piece. You're like whoa....a $1 a piece? But they're fatty people. They're so thick. I could eat maybe 4 and be full but being me, I just didn't stop. The shu mai was probably the more flavorful item we had. The chicken and shrimp steamed dumplings felt healthy. I don't know how to describe it. It felt like I was eating something not bad? But then again I felt like it was lacking seasoning or any flavor. It was fairly bland? Maybe that's why it felt healthy. The pork and vegetable potstickers were super oily. I get it. They're pan fried in oil. But afterwards when I was burping up dinner, it was oil I was burping. I had to always wipe my mouth after eating the potstickers due to the oiliness. Again not very seasoned or flavor outside of the oil. Each of the dumplings had their own dipping sauce which was much needed due to the lack of flavor. I preferred the potsticker dipping sauce. It had some green onions or scallions in it. S E R V I C E Service was great! Friendly and patient. Very upfront with how long food would take to get. Easily paid with credit card. O V E R A L L I can see why people give this high ratings. If I was going to school here, I would totally be all over this place since they give you so much food. But I just have had better dumplings. Sometimes quantity is just not enough. I love the cute location they're in with the indoor and outdoor seating options. They serve everything to-go but the open seating is very welcoming and with the large portions it's nice to have the to-go containers right away. You can call in your order or walk back to the small desk where a staff member will help you out. They do run out of items, everything is made fresh, so be ready to change up your order if your first choice is temporarily gone. I have tried the shumai, kimchi pork dumplings, wonton soup and green beans and all of of it has been delicious!! You can order most of their items as dumplings, potstickers or in a broth depending on your mood and from what I've seen they're all great choices. Once you order you'll get a receipt and order number and depending on how busy they are the orders come up pretty quick so be sure to listen for your number. I haven't tried it yet, but this spot also does fish and chips which I'm really curious about. This also adds an option on top of their appetizers, noodles and veggies to cater to anyone in your dining party or just mix things up if you're a regular. I personally enjoyed the potstickers more than the dumplings due to more texture. I will definitely be coming back to try the other flavors on the menu. I was excited to hear this place opened! I never got a chance to try it during my time at Davis because it never reopened but I was able to try it during my trip there. I honestly think if I was still in college, these would be the best tasting dumplings but I thought they were average. They're just your regualr potstickers but the unique part is that they pan fry the sides of the dumplings rather than the bottom of the dumpling. The sauce they provided was really light in flavor. It wasn't my favorite since I like heavier flavors but it's definitely a good spot for students. Pricewise, I thought it was a little expensive. Wait times were okay. Order at the counter and they bring your food to you. - everything (whether you dine-in or not) is served in plastic disposable takeout containers. - there are tables available if you opt to dine-in but beware... the tables are not attended to, cleaned or wiped down after each use. I didn't get to eat dumpling house for so many years when the fire happened and then the pandemic, so it was great to enjoy some dumplings from my favorite place again. These are one of the most popular items on the menu, the chives compliment the pork so well and I enjoy getting them steamed instead of fried so it's not greasy. Eggplant tofu. Tender and perfectly marinated eggplant paired with garlic and firm tofu, honestly there's nothing more comforting to me than that combination. During the cooler months I love sitting on the patio and people watching while I have my meal as inside can be loud and stuffy.
