It was a decent place and I would go back. I always try the soup buns if a place has them, but here they were a little over done and dried out. The broth was seasoned with soy sauce which I thought was unusual. We also had the spicy salt and pepper tofu for an appetizer (delicious and I need to know how they managed to get silken tofu into little cubes like that!), the mushroom bao (almost never see vegetarian bao, and they were great), and the three vegetarian treasures (delicious). I wish they had a more diverse selection of sake or even a soju option, but overall it's pretty good. Free hot tea, all you can drink, is nice too. read more

Find food, average service, not much accessibility. The star on the menu was, not surprisingly, the dumplings, as well as the buns. This will be my new spot when I am craving them. Dumpling House would benefit from a format making their delicious food a bit more accessible to the mainstream Cambridge audience. read more

Nice decor with the same quality of food. Be sure to try the soup dumplings!

You know it's a great Chinese restaurant when 80% of its customers are Chinese ! Very surprised to see this one mastering both Northern and Southern Chinese food! Great experience! read more

I have been twice and sadly there will not be a third time. The dumplings (soup and pork & Leek) were fine, actually quite tasty. The other items we tried were not so good. Tried a spicy chicken dish which was just little pellets of fried batter that were rock hard and did not taste of chicken in the least. The lamb with cumin sauce was not good at all. The lamb was all fat and was an awful shade of gray and there was no sauce. To their credit when we complained, they removed that from our bill. As a replacement we tried the Kung Pao chicken. Blech....not much flavor and twice as much celery as anything else. All of that could be overlooked, but the service was so far below par. English was a huge challenge for the waitress and the food server literally dropped the food on the table. Finally as I held the check in my hand to check it over, the waitress grabbed the check jacket out of my hand and bolted to the register. Sorry but this place is not for me!! read more

We were a relatively big crowd (with a reservation), and were seated right away at a big round table with a lazy Susan in the middle. We ordered lots of dumplings and scallion pancakes to start, and 10 entrees to share. I can only vouch for the General gau's tofu, spinach dumplings, greens, scallion pancakes, and fried rice, but it was all delicious. Every one seemed to enjoy the food, and all of the plates were bare. Service was friendly and quick and the meal was quite reasonably priced. I look forward to going back! One tiny compliant is that they only take two credit cards per table, but that didn't bother me enough to knock a star. read more

The soup dumplings were okay; a little bland and skins were thick but their other dumplings were decent. The other menu items seem like typical, okay slightly-too-greasy/saucy/salty American-Chinese food. read more

This place has the best mini soup dumplings I have ever tasted. The menu offers both American-based Chinese preparations and more traditional Chinese dishes suitable for a diverse dinner group. I always enjoy the food and my experience here. The wait can get quite long 6pm and after because everyone wants in for a delectable dinner! If you're into Szechuan cuisine, there are a number of dishes that will rival other Szechuan establishments. Only downside - the restaurant has a dense array of tables. read more

Everytime I come here, I eat a lot and leave feeling amazing. The service is pretty fast, even when it's crowded on weekends. The menu is not huge, but a lot of dishes ring authentically to me, and I grew up in a Chinese-American household. The spacious location in Cambridge is great; I hardly feel drag myself to Chinatown to get real Chinese food. The soup dumplings are pretty good - some of the best I've had in America, but they're always better in China. read more

This was perfect for Chinese delivery. They got the order correct and the food was delicious.

Food is deliciously authentic and at a reasonable price! We order take out often and it's always ready in 15min. The portions are good - we usually order the peppered beef, scallion pancakes, tofu veggies, and corn soup. Yum! read more

Delicious food, but we(6 people) were crammed into a four-top table, and they refused to move us despite the fact that our food would not fit on the table. They were very rude about this and it ruined our experience. I will not be back. read more

So I heard a lot of hype about how great the dumpling house was before coming, so maybe I had too high of expectations. The pork soup dumplings were fine, not great. Our beef soup was crazy greasy and kinda stale (can soup be stale?). And even though I'm only half Asian, I'm still going to judge the side of rice: the rice was bad. Anywho, Chinese food in Boston blows, so maybe this place is good on that scale, but I give it a solid eh. read more

So tasty! Fast service, easy to order. Favorites were the pork and leak fried dumplings and the pork and cabbage steamed bun. The shandong fried dumplings have shrimp as a heads up. The pork soup dumplings were also very good. Comfortable, nice waitresses, a little off the beaten path from central square, but still busy! read more

Soup dumplings were very good. The chicken broccoli was pretty good as well. The soup with the lunch combo no bueno (veggi egg drop i think) very sweet no flavor. Price is exactly what it should be. I will definitely come again and try some other things. read more

The food here is delicious, if you are looking for authentic Chinese food. Drinks here are good. Services here is a mixed, because after myself and my friend received our food. The server came back 10 minutes later thinking we are ready to leave. He was awkward, and continue to bug us every 10 minutes while we were trying to eat. It was not busy in the restaurant at all. The server sat across from us while he was wanting for us to leave. I think we were one of the few people whom were still there around 4ish on a weekday. Myself and my friend both felt like we were being rushed out of here, after spending good money at their restaurant. Customer service is a mixed here. read more

Within 45 seconds of walking in, I knew I wanted to leave. The hostess was on her cell phone and didnt speak to us. She walked to the other end of the restaurant and pointed at a table. She was back up front before we sat down. The waitstass was rude and didnt speak very much english. The dumplings we 4/10. We will not be back. read more

Speedy service and good food. Soup dumplings are great and all their Taiwanese and Szechuan dishes are serviceable. I'm not a big fan of their "salt and pepper" coating which is more of a batter than most places. They're always packed but they move people in and out pretty fast so if there's a wait it's usually less than 15 min. read more

Great dumplings! It is delicious and fast!! We ordered dumpling soup and it was very tasty. Also their eggplant is quite delicious.

Pretty authentic Chinese food, well prepared. Long menu. Great for vegetarians and all appetites. Very popular place, so rather noisy.

Had a take away dinner for 3 from this shop yesterday. The food was ready faster than they indicated it might be and it was all quite good. The sautéed string beans with dried shrimps were heavenly. Good value for money. read more

The food was delicious last night. Out table ordered both soup and pan fried dumplings, as well as several entrees. Everything came out to the table as it was ready or in some magic way that just as we almost finished one dish another arrived. My favorite was the pork soup dumplings. My husband loved the spicy pepper wings. He's still talking about them. read more

This place is the best Chinese food in the city hands down. 3.5 star rating is absurd. I recommend the pork mini soup dumplings and the Szechuan sliced fish (which is spicy). read more

Before going further, I want to acknowledge that the Dumpling House offers great food, the complimentary tea is delicious and the service is quite fast. When I went to the Chinatown location, although it was busy, my husband and I were treated well and everything went smoothly. But the low rating goes to the service my friends and I received at the Cambridge branch. We went there on a Sunday night that was not too busy. After waiting in line for our turn, we were placed at a table and that's when problems began. Our waitress was the rudest. She kept rushing us to order by asking questions like "are you ready yet?" with a very harsh tone. Once we ordered she almost threw the dishes on our table, and towards the end kept walking back to our table to try and yank the plates off us if they looked like we might have finished eating. To top it off, when it was time to pay for the bill, one of us went to the restroom and while we were paying and waiting for our friend, the waitress came back, said thank you and while doing so, literally nodded us away towards the door! I would definitely go back to the Chinatown branch but I encourage the Cambridge one to train their employees better! read more

Decent food with quick service. Not so polite staff. When I asked for vegetarian options the waitress asked me to read the menu!

Service was slow (even though the place was only 10-20%full) and not very friendly. I asked them for disposable chopsticks (the chopsticks in the cup didn't look clean since the tips were pointed up) and the waitress only pointed to the cup with the reusable ones and didn't try to mutter one word. The food was average too (pork and leek dumplings and mushroom buns). I probably would not go back again. read more

One of my very favorite things to eat are soup dumplings. Imagine my excitement when I realized i could find them within walking distance. The dumplings we were served were so salty, I could not eat them. It tasted like a mount of salt was placed on the dumpling itself, and everything that followed tasted like salt, even the water. We told the waiter that the dumplings were too salty, he took one and brought it to the kitchen for a test. When he returned he said "that is how they are", did he bring us a new one? NO. When I return I would not order these dumplings ever again, I am way too spoiled by Joe Shanghai in NYC CHINA TOWN. read more

Really delicious Chinese food near Central. The name of the place emphasizes the dumplings, which are solid, but it's really the rest of the menu where this place shines, in my opinion. I'm a regular here now. read more

One of the best Chinese Restaurants in Cambridge. Try the 水煮鱼。

We love this place!! The food is great, prices are reasonable and the boss is friendly!!! We ordered 水煮鱼片（Spicy fish) ,南京板鸭（Nanjing Duck), 北方凉粉（Northern Style Cold Noodles) and 东北三鲜（Eggplant with Assorted Vegetables). Every dish exceeded our expectation, leaving us wanting more~ Definitely will return soon for more savory Chinese food. Great Job! read more

Delicious, quick, generous portions. I love eating at dumpling house! I generally just get 3-4 appetizers and call that a meal. The Spicy salt and pepper tofu is fantastic! read more

This place was good, but not the most authentic Chinese food I've had. The soup dumplings did not have enough flavoring, for someone who likes to eat them without any sauce. read more

Great dumplings and other dishes. The service was quick but had some awkward moments. Recommended for those looking for an affordable meal. Update 1: We went with a very large party. The service was on the verge of being outright rude with some of the waitstaff literally dropping off dishes. I thought at one point someone was going to have dinner down the side of them or that the force of them placing things on the table would break the glass. Food was great but service sucked. read more

Amazing, authentic Chinese food. Try the soup dumplings - though be careful when hot! This place had all the signs of a great Chinese place - no white people at the other tables - and it appears to be family run or at least family serviced. Either that or the people get along just like a family. read more

They have the best soup dumplings in the world...that is all i have to say oh they kind of stare at you too much

Very rude staff, the lady at front fought with customers in front of me and others. Her and another person in the front both fought over who was to take a call from a customer and put the customer's phone on the counter on hold while both refused to pick up the phone to talk to them. read more

Dumpling House - General Gau's Chicken - Noodles Near Me - Cambridge, Massachusetts

My local friend and I had just made it back to the neighborhood after the Red Sox game on Saturday and decided to grab some quick dumplings before going home. We walked into this packed establishment and the girl at the register said "How are you" while looking up at the clock that said 9:45. We said, "Good, how are you?" and she looked back at us and said, "What?". We repeated our response and she said, "You know kitchen close at 9:50?" We said "okay" and she reluctantly sat us. The server immediately walked up and said, "You know kitchen close in two minutes??" to which I replied, "That's what they keep telling us". My friend and I looked at each other and immediately got up and walked out as the server said, "Okay good". I don't live here but I promise you that I will never return to this establishment. My friend, on the other hand, lives just a block away from this restaurant and she said that's the third time that they've been rude to her and she will also never return. read more

I been there three time in every two days. It is highly recommended. I will bring more friends.

The items on the menu are definitely hit or miss. The hot and sour soup is quite spicy. The braised tofu dish is mediocre at best. However, the scallion pancakes, chicken with asparagus and chicken fried rice were all quite good. The place is very chaotic so if you know what you're getting is good and know the atmosphere ahead of time, it can be worth it. we didn't try any dumplings. read more
