Dumpling House is my go to Chinese restaurant in Cambridge and my most recent experience did not disappoint. We ordered mini pork and crabmeat soup dumplings. Despite the 'mini' in the name, they were anything but mini and simply delicious. The noodle dishes are also great and you will not regret ordering anything here. Also, this place gets PACKED and there's often a line either waiting in the doorway or outside. Make sure you reserve a spot or get there early! They delivery during quarantine too. read more

This place seems quite busy! I remember when it was a buddhist study place that occasionally offered vegetarian buffet and dishes. It used to be quiet and calm. Now, 5 years since I've left Boston, this place has transformed into a bustling restaurant. There is a little waiting area up front. The restaurant itself is large. Service is fast. Prices are reasonable. The dishes I had were all quite good, from the chicken corn egg drop soup to the pan-fried dumplings to the soup dumplings. The flounder was amazing, as was the oyster pancake. The string beans were excellent. The tofu and pig intestine dishes were just OK, but I'm usually not a fan anyways. Overall, the dishes ranged in how good they were, but nothing was anywhere close to being bad. The portions are very reasonable. My brother who comes here often says that the quality varies from visit to visit. Sometimes they switch the ingredients in the dishes by accident. In any case, a decent Chinese restaurant in this part of town is very welcome, and saves you from having to hop on the T to Chinatown. read more

Dumpling House is the brainchild of people behind the popular Gourmet Dumpling House (GDH) in Chinatown, according to Eater Boston. It occupies the former Greater Buddhist Cultural Center tea room. The menu is very similar to what you would find from GDH. Can't go wrong with the soup dumplings (xiao long bao) and Sichuan water boiled fish. They have a few things like "Chinese hamburger" aka rou jia mo aka fatty pork inside 2 buns, and pork/lamb skewers that I hadn't seen in GDH. Prices are marginally more than Chinatown GDH, but since the space can seat about 90 people, you can at least get into the restaurant without enduring a massive wait time. However, this place, much like GDH, fills up quickly. The interior is much classier and cleaner than some typical restaurant. Even the menu is classy. Service was friendly. You can find street parking in front of the restaurant. Or take the T as the restaurant is half way between Central and Harvard. Not sure if they have a website yet, but you can check out their facebook page for more info (including pictures of the menu). https://www.facebook.com/Dumplinghouseinc read more

I feel like this place is hyped up too much. Lets start with what everyone comes here for. The Soup dumplings are good for boston soup dumplings. But if were comparing soup dumplings with NYC or even China, then there is no comparison. The soup dumplings here are a bit bigger but what makes me not like these too much is the broth inside. The broth has this groggy feeling where it makes it dense and not liquid. I can not really explain it without you having to try it, but the soup dumplings here give off an after taste that isn't suppose to appear. Enough of soup dumplings, everything else on this menu pretty on point. I've gotten the beef noodle soup a couple of times, and compared with taiwan cafe, this place beats that place out of the park. Its not one of the best i've had before, but it does beat every other restaurant in Boston/cambridge area. If you're huge on meat/ribs, i recommend geting the baby ribs which taste and look exactly like korean ribs. These ribs taste exactly like the ones you get in korean restaurants which are one of my favorite. They aren't exactly small, as they do come in a pretty decent size. 3 Stars for the Soup Dumpling 3.5 for Everything else read more

Good food, a little greasy. Unpredictable wait times for orders. Was quoted 30 minutes. Took 50 minutes for food to be ready...

Stop by here for lunch today. I told them I am a spicy person. So they recommended beef with longhorn peppers, sichuan spicy fish, and cold noodles with peanuts and sesame. Soup dumplings with pork (XiaoLongBao) was handmade, fresh and so juicy. I have a satisfied lunch today. Definitely will come back. read more

Surprisingly good Chinese food on this side of the Charles! Packed around dinner time even on a Wednesday but didn't have to wait long for a table for 5. The girls and I split several dishes and all were really good, but very oily and salty. Crab meat XLB - Pretty good! Slightly thicker skins than I'm used to but had lots of soupy goodness and held it's form well without tearing. Pepper beef w/ onions & peppers - Yummy! saucy and flavorful but definitely need to eat it with rice. Beef was chewy b/c Chinese people like to use cheaper cuts usually. 3 cups chicken - Saltyyyyy! Small pieces of chicken w/ lots of bone. The sauce was too salty for my taste even with white rice. Spicy pork - My favorite of the night. Picked it because the picture looked so good and it did not disappoint. Spicy and big, but thin strips of pork that was pretty much like bacon. Really enjoyed this dish. Chinese water spinach - Greasy but fresh. Typical water spinach, love it. It only really tastes good when it's flash cooked in oil anyway. Overally, good food and good service. Quick, attentive and get you in, get your food, get you out. Definitely beats the trek to Chinatown for food, but parking on Mass Ave is a pain still. It's fairly close to the Central T stop tho and then you can get Paris Baguette for dessert on the way back! read more

Don't get me wrong, the food here is great (sometimes a bit too greasy), but it just makes me miss home and authentic Chinese food even more. This place is always packed during dinner time. At times the service seems a little rushed, but I suppose when the line is out the door, they are trying to get tables open ASAP. My favorite part of this place is that they serve some of my favorite northern Chinese dishes. I'll definitely be back to try them. I'd recommend this place over the other Chinese restaurants in Harvard or Central. So grab your friends and share some food family style. My favorite dishes include: soup dumplings, spicy Szechuan fish, sautéed watercress. read more

The good: Scallion pancakes with scallion (and cilantro?) soy sauce. On point. Gong Bao Chicken with rice. Peanuts and celery tinge on point. Accommodating an order at 9:54 PM when the place closes at 10 PM The bad: Braised pork with eggplant was inedible. The eggplant, which comprised 90% of the dish, was unfortunately covered in sauce and I couldn't bring myself to eat it, even though I hadn't had anything to eat in 10 hours. That's saying something. The spicy tofu was equally disappointing. Also smothered in sauce. The ugly: My physique after eating several pounds of Chinese food. It definitely filled me up, so good on them for that! read more

Enter than a 3.5 for sure!! Great dumpling and soup, the only negative was that the soup dumplings needed more libido on them.

I've been here about a dozen times. A place I really want to like but after today I've had enough. This is poor quality Chinese food that doesn't taste great and leaves you feeling gross afterwards. I've tried most of their dishes both in store and take out and multiple locations. For this review I'll focus on their namesake the dumpling. First, why is their meat a weird reddish color? The texture of the boiled dumping is fine but lacks taste - you can't taste the ingredients. Next, for the pan fried dumplings, they came out soggy and lumpy. Even if the ingredients are poor, why can't you properly pan fry dumplings where the bottom is crispy and golden brown? I hesitated on commenting to the waiters but it was too gross, I had to. They took it back and returned it after throwing them in a deep fryer. Sigh... Experiences like this really hold the greater Boston area back in the food scene. The problem will remain because customers continue to visit and help these places make money. In the future, I will stick to Mulan as they put more care into their food. read more

Yes. Exactly what Harvard Square (well it's close enough) needed. From the people behind Gourmet Dumpling House in Chinatown, Dumpling House has opened with a BANG. WAIT: We can on a rainy Tuesday night at 8pm, and it was PACKED. Our party of two still had a 15 minute wait. Wow. Line moves quickly, and the number system where they give you a piece of paper with a scrawled number delivers an authentic Chinese restaurant experience. FOOD: Soup Dumplings were great. Skin was thin, filling was well seasoned, and the soup itself wasn't too salty. Sauteed Green Beans were on point and inspired a new love of green beans. The Fried Pork Chop with Pepper was a little too spicy for the desired level of spice we requested and a little too fried to be delicious, but good effort. SERVICE: Prompt, friendly, and polite. DECOR: Nicer than any Chinese restaurant of equivalent deliciousness. This is some high-class stuff right here. OTHER: In response to other reviewers who complain about the stinky tofu, rude service, or weird food, all I have to say is that this place delivers authentic Chinese cuisine, which is not something you find everywhere. That alone gives it high marks. read more

Wanted to grab some dumplings and a nice sit down Chinese place. Saw this name mentioned a couple times online so I thought we would check it out. Wow. I think this might have easily been the best Chinese food I've ever had. The food came out super quick (almost too quick), and the service was fine. We ordered the sesame chicken, fried noodles with chicken, and pan fried pork/cabbage buns. The sesame chicken wasn't "Americanized", meaning it wasn't super sweet or rich. It was just right. Gooey, perfect amount of sesame seeds, and a nice bowl of rice. The fried noodles I semi-ordered by mistake. But, I ended up enjoying! It was something I've never had. But it was really good. Finally, the pan fried buns were unreal. Moist, doughy, full of just straight goodness. Overalls, amazing food, clean place, and a great little area. I will be returning, and so will my buddy! read more

Top option for Taiwanese food (with a Shanghainese twist) in Boston. As a vegetarian I can't speak to the XLB, but they custom made an order of san bei (three cup) tofu for me on my last visit, which was one of the best I've ever had. The veggie dumplings made with leek are also excellent, and you won't feel like you're missing out when your carnivorous friends are slurping soup dumplings. read more

I finally checked out this location with my friend. The space is much bigger than the one in Chinatown, and LESS BUSY! So no more waiting outside just for a quick lunch! And the service is better than other Chinese restaurant I have ever been to! I love the Szechuan fish and the northern style cold noddles! Would love to try the braised tilapia next time. Unfortunately, they don't have fortune cookies, but the coconut flavored candy is pretty good. read more

Dumpling House - That's funny! - Noodles Near Me - Cambridge, Massachusetts

Came to Boston for the weekend and was craving soup dumplings, as I always am! Trekked it here and I had such high hopes! I was a bit put off when entering, since there were 3 employees tending to a group of 4 ordering takeout and my friend and I weren't seated until 5-10 minutes in. The place was pretty empty at 4pm on a Saturday. I ordered the soup dumplings with pork, and also a chicken pan fried noodle to share. The service was good, the waiter and busboy were both attentive and noticeably solemn... I guess they were trying to be formal? I don't know but neither of them cracked a smile at any point. I was sad to find out that this place's idea of a soup dumpling turned out to be entirely different from what I am used to. I was expecting a dumpling with thin skin, an abundance of piping hot flavorful broth, and tender pork filling. The dumpling skin here was on the thicker side, and the meat inside was similar to that of a roast pork, very salty. The broth was almost none existent and to me, seemed like soy sauce and that was it. They were warm but not piping hot. The pan fried noodle was pretty good, with a lot of toppings (carrots, celery, etc) and an average amount of noodle, and there was a ton of sauce (thumbs up). Overall, I wouldn't recommend the soup dumplings but if you're here for other Chinese food, I'd say it's worth a try! The place started to fill up about the time I left so maybe other dishes are better. My friend and I paid $20 after tax+tips. read more

I had my doubts about coming to a Chinese restaurant not in Chinatown, but Dumpling House made a lasting impression of yummy tasty flavors with every dish I tried. The restaurant is pretty big with lots of tables, but this place sure fills up so come early or be prepared to wait! My group of 5 came at 6:30 and we got a table right away on a Wednesday. After we sat down, the place got packed shortly after. Crab meat XLB: juicy, plump dumplings filled with soup. REALLY good! I liked this one better than Taiwan cafe. Pepper beef with onions & peppers: This one was my favorite dish of the dinner. Saucy flavors with a good portion of beef and veggies. 3 cup chicken: This is usually one of my favorite dishes at a Chinese place, but the pieces of chicken were so small with lots of bone. It was more like a 1-1 ratio of bone to meat. The flavor was still really good, but you have to eat it slowly so you don't accidentally eat the bone! Spicy pork- thick cuts of bacon, cabbage and green peppers. Great flavor Everything overall was really good! I totally recommend this place if you are in the area or don't want to travel all the way to Chinatown to get chinese food. read more

I got the mini soup dumplings and the chicken and cabbage dumplings (fried instead of steamed). They both tasted good and they give you a good amount of each. The soup dumplings were slightly bigger than I'm typically used to (not a bad thing) and drier/not as soupy as I would've liked, but still tasted pretty good. The fried dumplings weren't very oily despite being, well, fried, which is a big plus in my book. The sauce for the dumplings was so good - I ended up using only that for both things I ordered and not touching the sauce that came with the soup dumplings, which was more of a vinegar soy sauce. read more

So so yummy. A place to go for Chinese food staples. There is no better chinese restaurant in Boston.

The sister restaurant of Gourmet Dumpling House in Chinatown, which is considered the place for the best Xiao Long Bao's (XLB's for short) in metro Boston. The menu has all the same stuff as the one in Chinatown, plus a bit more. The quality of food is identical as Chinatown (same chef I'm told) Today for lunch I had pork/crab XLB and spicy beef noodle soup w/ spinach. My standard order when I'm solo. The beef noodle soup is exactly the same as the Chinatown restaurant (which is excellent). The XLB's was very good, however the soup was a bit watery. It should be richer. This place just opened this week, so I'm sure there are a few things they need to work out. I mentioned this to the owner and manager of the restaurant, and they appreciated the feedback and said they would correct it. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised how open they were with feedback, so they can correct them! That's how customer service is done! Pros: Chinatown quality food Best Xiao Long Bao's in metro Boston Large restaurant with plenty of seating Nice and Clean decor Parking!! Plenty of side street parking Excellent service Cons: It is located exactly in-between Central Sq and Harvard Sq, so walking to it from a T will take 5-10 mins down Mass Ave. For a grand opening week, they're off to a great start! Easy 5 stars. Shut up and take my money! read more

This place is never a let down. I usually order takeout, but the other day I went there and ate inside. The staff was so nice (as always) and you are greeted with delicious tea when you sit down. The service here is pretty bad. The server forgot to split our checks even though we told her at the beginning. We finished our meal and nobody came to check on us, refill our water or to give us check. I guess the worst were the fact that she asked 2 of us 5 what did we want for drink. 2 of us said water and she left. 3 of us were confused because we didnt get to say anything and she came back with 5 waters. I hardly expect a fancy service in a asian restaurant but at least cover the minimum job such as taking orders and billing. And they forced 18% tip on the check. I guess that was why the waitress didnt even give any care for her customers. The food were yummy with good portion. The mini soup dumpling were good. The crab rangoon was very creamy and filled with cheese. We ordered the fried pork with leeks dumplings and the steamed pork and cabbage. The fried ones were better for sure. I wish they went easy on the salt/soy sauce. It overpowered the food a little bit. We probably will not be here again, I rather go to Chinatown to get more dumplings. read more

DH is hard to review because it depends so much on what you order. First, the XLB. All the people saying that they have thin skin need to buy new dictionaries. These are twice the size of what you'd find at somewhere like Din Tai Fung, and the skins are about twice as thick. Somehow, despite having thick skins, they're pretty hard to pick up without breaking. Fortunately, the thick skins actually taste pretty good, just more like the skin for boiled dumplings instead of your prototypical XLB wrapper. The filling is fine: not as porky as a top-end place, and could use some more ginger, but not bad. The pan fried pork dumplings are great. The contrast between the crisp bottoms and chewy tops are perfect, and the filling is flavorful. Likewise, the fried rice we got had a generous amount of shrimp, meat, and egg, and was very well-seasoned. The garlicky big bean sprouts are exactly how you expect big bean sprouts to taste. We had a pork and Chinese celery dish, which was decent, if not very memorable. The rice cakes with pork were nice and chewy, and I think they added some seaweed to it, which I liked but some people found off-putting. Unfortunately, the Sichuan fish (water boiled fish) here is very mediocre. The fish is overcooked and mushy, and the broth isn't really spicy or numbing and lacks richness from the (theoretical) Pixian bean paste base. This basically isn't the same dish as what you'd find at Chengdu Taste, Sichuan Impression, or Lao Sze Chuan, and it's not a change for the better. read more

The best way to describe this restaurant is: same great tasting food as Chinatown meets cleanliness of Cambridge. We all know how notorious Chinatown (Chinatowns across the US) can be for how clean they are. But I want to point out what is of utmost importance, the food. I Love the dumpling house in Chinatown. And once I heard that there was a sister restaurant in Cambridge (which is closer to where I live) I had to come try. As I stated before, the food here is just as wonderful. The xiao long bao is always a must, but all the dishes here are a hit. I would probably have to say the worst part of my experience was the parking, which is not even the restaurant's fault. Since there is only street parking, it took awhile to find a space. The point is: this is probably the best Chinese food you can get in the area. Bonus: It's clean and its fairly priced. read more

Love the mini soup dumplings here! Dumpling House is probably the best quality Chinese food in the immediate area around Harvard/MIT. To be honest, the menu is pretty hefty, and not all of the items on it are stellar. The sauteed rice cakes are very delicious, the mini soup dumplings are a must-order, and the mapo tofu and scallion pancakes are pretty standard. Lamb with Cumin is not something you can order anywhere, and while very salty, is pretty delicious. The beef noodle soup was extremely meh. Not very tasty or flavorful, but pretty cheap for such a large volume of food. I also don't really recommend the non-soup dumplings, as they are only passable. Generally speaking, the service is pretty standard Chinese restaurant quality. The place is very busy, and the goal is not really to be served, it's to eat nice food! I'll be back to try out probably every item on the menu and eat lots more soup dumplings! read more

Very disappointed. I wanted to like and support this place badly knowing there aren't many good Chinese restaurants in the Boston area -- ordered DoorDash delivery. The noodles with curry powder and chicken/shrimp was mushy, with tiny low quality shrimp. The pea pod stems stir fried with garlic was over cooked. The worst was the beef tendons in chili sauce -- it had a pungent sour and foul smell and taste, seemed unsafe to eat and I had to throw it out. Terrible dinner -- this place missed on 3 of 3 dishes! read more

This place is for sure not higher than 1 star. The food is extremely subpar, not fresh, and heavily breaded. We ordered the soup dumplings, pan fried dumplings, noodle dish, and several cooked dishes. Soup dumplings did not taste fresh at all and the meat tasted yucky! The fried dumplings were average and the cooked dishes were so heavily packed with cornstarch and breading it could not be eaten. I am shocked to see the positive reviews, only can deduce that the reviews are fake or these people don't have Chinese food on a regular basis. The workers are also rude, and they nickel and dime you for rice. Would not recommend coming here. read more
