Great to see a local dumpling place in WC. The shop if fairly small and tends to have large crowds on the weekends, so we opted for takeout. The food itself is well prepared and delicious. Prices are on par in this general area, but then bill can rack up quick if you get the fancier dumplings. We got a sampling of many dishes here and nothing disappointed. Sister restaurant to the much loved Dumpling Home in SF. Do I need to say more? So thankful that I stumbled upon an article that told me about their sister restaurant in the East Bay. Now I no longer have to travel across the bridge for yummy dumplings. I came here for brunch with my mother on a Saturday afternoon right when it opened. Luckily there wasn't a wait, but when I walked past it at 12:30, there was a waiting list of 4-5 people. So get here early-ish! My mom and I went all in on dumplings. I'm all in when it comes to dim sum. Since Dumpling Hours recently opened in Downtown Walnut Creek, I had to try it since there aren't many dim sum places in the area. Dumpling Hours replaced Burger Loft and Pomegranate restaurants. They feature both indoor and outdoor dining with a small yet mighty menu. There is an open kitchen where you can see freshly prepared dim sum in the making by their skillful chefs. Once you arrive, make sure to put down your name on their wait list. This place fills up quickly! At first it looks like they have limited seating inside, but there are additional tables in the back near the restroom. It was very hot out so we scored a table inside. Although the outdoor patio is nice, there are no umbrellas to shade you from the sun. Also, they do check your vaccination cards so have that ready for your server if you choose to dine in. The menu is separated into 8 sections. Pictures would be great but sadly, there aren't any. Choose from the following: Appetizers, Steamed, Soup, Boiled, Fried, Pan Fried, Noodle, and Vegetable. If you're a textural person when it comes to food like me, it's best to select a few from different sections for the best balance. You don't want to eat all fried or all steamed dim sum. That would be boring! Haha We especially enjoyed the Xiao Long Bao or XLBs. These soup dumplings are the high rollers of dim sum that arrive in steamer baskets. Their delicate skins and meaty broth is a delectable bite. Make sure to try it with some of the dipping sauce (black vinegar with fresh slivers of ginger) to add some brightness. If you've never eaten an XLB, don't eat it too fast. The scalding broth will burn your tongue. My first bite was hilarious. I went in so fast because I was hungry after my walk at the Lafayette Reservoir. Broth splashed into my hair and shirt. I was a mess! But it was so dang fun. My girlfriend and I couldn't stop laughing. Don't worry, I was a pro with my other pieces. LOL Loved the Shrimp, Egg, and Chive Pockets from the Pan Fried section. They look very simple but the flavor packs a punch with the fresh chives. We also included a vegetable with our meal. Remember that balance! We chose the classic string beans. They were crunchy and garlicky with that perfect amount of salt. It was weird to have the string beans arrive last to our table though. Items will not be served all at once. Some dishes were not as expected but still tasty. We were debating between the Dan Dan and the Ginger & Scallion Noodles. My friend wanted the Dan Dan Noodles. I was hoping for spicy and smoky noodles that I remembered eating at a Szechuan restaurant. These were more mild in flavor with a sesame base. It wasn't my favorite but I did love the chewiness of the noodles. You can taste how fresh it was. Same goes for the Pork Wonton with Sesame Sauce Chili Oil. I thought we would be getting something more spicy with the chili oil. This was heavy on the sesame flavor. Not to fret! They have the red chili oil at your table. Once I added that to my wontons, it was the taste I was looking for. I would love to bring my family here next time to order other items and of course, more XLBs. Cute dumpling restaurant in downtown Walnut Creek. They seem to be a bit understaffed since there were open tables, but it took a little while before we were seated. This wasn't a big deal but just a reminder to be patient with restaurants as many are understaffed. Ordering was easy as you just place your order via a QR code. Food came out pretty quickly after our order was placed. We tried the following: - Ginger & scallion noodles: this was okay, nothing particularly memorable - Pork wonton with sesame sauce and chili oil: good but I would've preferred more chili oil and less sesame sauce - String beans sautéed with garlic: this was my favorite. Super flavorful and cooked perfectly The portions were not very large given the price, so I will say I'd probably order more food next time though my partner and I weren't super hungry this time so the quantity of food was okay. When my partner and I try a new restaurant, we can't help but over order. So here goes what we had: Flower Tea, Green Onion pancake, red bean paste cakes, ginger scallion noodles, fried wontons, shrimp pork chive dumplings, Shrimp & Loofah Xiao Long Bao, Pork Xiao Long Bao, Black Truffle and Pork Xiao Long Bao and Pork Wontons in Sesame Chili Oil. Generally speaking, the dumplings were all well filled-- take a bite and you see actual pieces of shrimp. Shrimp and Loofah soup dumplings weren't very soupy but we still enjoyed them. The other soup dumplings had more broth in them. We loved the Shrimp pork chive dumplings- enjoyed them doused in the red sauce from the share jar on the table. The sauce isn't very spicy, so definitely give it a try. If there's anything we wouldn't order again, it's the pork wontons in sesame chili oil. The sesame sauce felt more like peanut sauce and wasn't our favorite. We really enjoyed the red bean paste cakes- toasted sesame seeds and a light red bean paste- gave us mooncake vibes but lighter. My family and I were craving something different, something that we hadn't had in awhile, so we were excited when we stumbled across Dumpling hours! We arrived around 4:45 right before they opened and there was ALREADY a line waiting to be seated. Luckily, we were seated within 15-20 minutes. I suggest arriving before 5pm if you want to get seated before the line starts wrapping around the building however, it's well worth the wait! We ordered the Shrimp Pork Chive Dumplings which are my families favorite, we couldn't get enough! We also ordered, the Steamed Pork Buns (another favorite, so light fluffy and full of flavor) the pork BAO, the pork wonton, the ginger and green onion noodles, and the green beans with black bean sauce. Every hour on the hour it's dumpling time at Dumpling Hours! Located in downtown Walnut Creek on North Main Street in a small restaurant space that previously housed Burger Loft for many years, and Pomegranate Mediterranean Cuisine for decades before that, Dumpling Hours is a Asian restaurant specializing in those delectable soup dumplings called Xiao Long Baos, so popular in Taiwanese and Shanghainese cuisine. Despite being only a few weeks old, word of mouth has already gotten around the Walnut Creek area, thanks to the success of their sister restaurant Dumpling Home in the Hayes Valley neighborhood of San Francisco. I knew they were going to be busy when my party of three people went on a recent Friday afternoon for lunch, but really hadn't anticipated how busy they would actually be. Thankfully they weren't so busy that the wait was too long, so I decided to drop my party off to get reservations for our table of three, I decided it was best to park in the Broadway Plaza garage, which was all the way down South Broadway, as they give you four hours of complimentary parking. Although it was quite the hike back from the garage to the restaurant, by the time I managed to walk back to Dumpling Time, our table for three was ready and my friends were already sitting there ready to order. The menu at Dumpling Hours is compact, with it being broken up into sections, with Appetizers, Steamed Entrees, Soup, Boiled Items, Deep Fried Items, Pan Fried Items, Noodles both dry and in a soup base, and Vegetables. Since none of us were super famished as it was lunch time, we decided we wanted to get our Xiao Long Baos appetites satiated and after looking at our trusty Yelp app to see what our fellow Yelp Elites posted of the images of the food at Dumpling Hours, we opted to order their 4 piece Pork Xiao Long Baos, 4 piece Chicken Xiao Long Baos, 4 piece Crab and Pork Xiao Long Baos, and from their Noodle menu, since the image that we found on Yelp looked so good, we opted to order their Ginger & Scallion Noodles. For four dishes it was 45 dollars before tip, which wasn't too bad at all, especially considering the quality of food we received for our meal. Our noodles came first and when we added a little hot oil sauce that was provided at each table, it helped a delicious dish become even more flavorful. And then came the piece de résistance of our afternoon, our four individually stacked steamed wooden baskets of the Crab and Pork, Pork, and Chicken Xiao Long Baos. The main difference between the crab and pork and the pork Xiao Long Baos was that that was the faintest bit of crab meat on the top of the crab soup dumpling versus that of the pork soup dumpling, while the real surprise were the chicken dumplings, which had the faintest hint of curry powder in each dumpling, which only added to already bursting flavors of protein and warmly boiled soup. I can't wait to return to Dumpling Hours to sample more of their signature Xiao Long Baos, in addition to more dishes from their small but intriguing menu, such as their Pan Fried Juicy Pork Buns and their Boiled Shrimp Pork Chive Dumplings, which seemed to be the fancy of every other table that we saw this afternoon. The fact that they have such a large staff, as I counted no fewer than eight people working on the afternoon we went, that you can watch them make their fresh dumplings made in house and taste that was as everything was filled with an abundance of fresh ingredients and made with such skilled attention to detail instantly makes me want to come back for more. The place does fill up fast, and as we ate their I noticed they were no longer taking in reservations for tables by 2 p.m. as all of their outdoor tables on their front patio were still full and their indoor dining room was filled as well despite them closing for a mid-afternoon break at 2:30 p.m. and reopening by 5 p.m. so they know their limits of what and when they can serve. A city like Walnut Creek could use more places that serve a type of cuisine that's not usually found here, and you can't get more exotic than Chinese Soup Dumplings because there are not enough hours in the day to enjoy the dumplings at Dumpling Hours, I guarantee you that one day I will find a way to do it! read more

Walnut Creek has been long overdue for a delicious XLB and dumpling spot, and Dumpling Hours really delivers. Apparently pretty much everyone in the area also agrees with this too, because it's constantly crowded during peak hours and on weekends. I would factor in a potential wait if you're not going right at opening. My personal favorites and go-to orders have become the pork XLB, pork hot & spicy XLB (so unique!), pan fried pork buns (aka sheng jian bao), and their Dan Dan noodles. But honestly it's hard to go wrong. I've eaten here four times and expect to have many more visits to come! read more

Many Asian restaurants close in the middle of the day, meaning they are open for the Lunch Hours. Then close before they reopen for Dinner Time. So if you're looking to go, plan for their hours. As for the food, delicious and authentic. We ordered quite a lot and they all were yummy. First off, the dry fried chicken wings. If you've had them before you know. The batter on this was very crispy. While the sauce here wasn't too spicy it was extremely sticky. The shrimp pork and chives dumplings were very good but they did come out very wet & watery. The Crab & Pork XLB was good but for the amount of the crab you get is just not worth it. I have a photo up where the crab is just on the top part of the Bao where it is closed. So in my opinion, it's not worth it to get it. The juicy pork baos is what I came for and they did not disappoint. They were the last to come out, probably because it takes the longest. Wow! this place is amazing! so good! but also so so expensive. the skin of the xiao long bao is so thin that you can see the soup when you pick up a pouch. none of the XLB popped so you get the full soup flavor in each individual xlb. i also really like their sheng jian bao -- flavorful, soupy and thin skin. My kids ordered their clear broth beef noodle soup and the noodles were great! got a good bouncy texture. we've been here twice and enjoyed both visits. 1st time we had it to go and 2nd time we dined in their outdoor area. Definitely better when you are eating there while the food is piping hot. can skip the red bean pastry. it was rather dry. the chicken and mushroom dumpling was pretty good. got a good mushroom flavor the wonton with chili oil was small, and was not spicy at all. I'm so happy that a xiao long Bao (xbl) place opened up closer to home. My husband and I came on a Friday night and the place was pretty busy but we got seated relatively quickly (maybe 30 mins tops). We ordered the steamed pork dumplings, pork and crab dumplings, flower pot tea, Zha jiang noodles and sautéed green beans. Everything was delicious. The xlb had good broth, the wrapping was not too thick and you could really taste the crab in the dumpling. I like the fact that they offer two sizes for the xlb (small - 4 pieces, regular - 8 pieces) allowing one to try more flavors. This was a bit on the pricier side than what I'm used to for this type of meal, but then again it is downtown Walnut Creek. If I had to make one complaint; normally the dumplings is served with a small dish of julienne ginger in vinegar sauce, but when I asked for this the restaurant served it with only 1-2 slices of ginger. My boyfriend and I came today for lunch! I love Xiao Long Bao so when I saw that a new restaurant opened up in the area, I knew I had to try (even in this crazy hot weather). We came at around 1pm on a Sunday and put ourselves on the waitlist. We got seated about half an hour later. There's indoor and outdoor seating here and we opted for indoor dining! Looks like dumplings are the new Asian food trend. Dumpling house does not disappoint. Their spicy pig ear appetizers were different in that they include cucumber but my person preference is it needed to be more spice to it. Our favorite was their pan fried dumpling. The bottom is pan fried crisp and crunchy but it somehow was able to retain the hot soup when you bite into it. Their "Dan Dan Noodles" is ok but food allergies beware; they use peanut sauce and there's no mention of peanuts in their menu (I'm not much of a peanut sauce fan but the peanut wasn't over powering.. just didn't like the "sticky" texture.) Their dumplings are fresh, not fresh frozen. In fact, the chef was still rolling dough and wrapping dumplings in between cooking dishes. Hands down delicious! I was looking for something local for our anniversary lunch and had been wanting to try this place for awhile. The wait was about 30 minutes...but table turnover was consistent. It just kept moving....we found out why once we were inside. Set up at our tables, we had a QR code menu...put in our order. We were right in front of the dumpling making station and it was really enlightening to see. Dozen after dozen they were just pumping them out...my hands were tired just watching them. Food came out quickly... Jasmine Tea-as expected Thai ice tea- one of the better ones we've had around locally. Juicy Pan Fried Pork Buns....ridiculously delicious. I can't even describe. Just PLEASE be careful of the temperature when eating....poke a tiny hole to let some heat escape. Waiting 5 minutes wasn't good enough and hubby burnt his mouth. (Enough to be done eating). Luckily, the last dish brought out. String beans with garlic sauce...crispy/firm...not over cooked and wilty. They were a last minute addition and turned out to be a tasty side accompaniment for the table. Chicken Xiao Long Bao - I had only ever dreamed of something in real life. I admit...my first experience was with the frozen ones from Trader Joe's.....but it took me a while to figure out what they were called in real life, but as soon as I did...we were in line to get some. These exceeded any hope that I had for how tasty I thought these could really be. I have been trying to get back to get more...but since hubby got burned...I know it takes a minute to get that trust back to try again. Couple more weeks and we should be good. Chicken dumplings with shitake mushrooms....decent. Enjoyable. Pretty consistent in what you would expect. Their dipping sauce brought out more flavors. Dumplings with egg, chive, Woodear mushrooms & shrimp....(I couldn't try due to allergies.). Hubby did enjoy... To be honest....the Xiao Long Bao, the Juicy pork buns and the green beans stole the show. The flavors were so perfect together. The dumplings were good...and not one was left....but a pretty standard dumpling flavor wise. Each food item was brought out back to back...leave one, take one style, with the exception of the green beans. It added a nice change for those of us who like our food served hot and that rarely happens in a restaurant. To me, everything temp wise was great...with the exception of the juicy pork buns that needed to have a few more minutes that anticipated (but...we couldn't wait and we ignored other reviews)...so, we tried and we learned. The bringing one dish at a time actually sped up table turnover because no one was lingering...they were right there bringing the next dish as soon as that last piece was grabbed. Finally legit Chinese food in the suburbs. This place is really good, but small. Only been open a month and it took an hour to get a table. Worth every minute. There where 7 of us and we ordered about 10 different things, all where delicious. Be patient, be polite, they are being overwhelmed but their sudden success. read more

Yes please! This dim sum was tasty and delectable. Savory heart warming food that hit the spot. Good service. We enjoyed outdoor dining even though it was a bit chilly they rushed to tyrn on the outdoor heaters which made everything cozy. I would visit again and again if I lived in the area! I loved it. Finally got to come here and check this place out. Dumpling Hours is my new favorite spot in Walnut Creek. PARKING We came right at 5pm. There was a lot of street parking but you can also park in the parking lot near Bank of America. AMBIANCE Really cute decor! MUSIC Awesome music. I love when restaurants play some good music, puts me in a good mood. Can't complain. I heard pop, EDM and hip hop. SERVICE Fast service. As soon as they sat us, we looked at the menu and then our server took our order. After that she placed the receipt at the end of our table. The first thing that came out was the Hot and Sour soup. Our server served it in two mini bowls. Then the dumplings and last was the xiao long bao. FOOD Pork Xiao Long Bao - 4pcs ($7.95) Chicken Xiao Long Bao - 4pcs - ($7.95) Dumplings with Shrimp, Pork & Chive ($10.95) Chicken with Shiitake Mushroom Dumplings ($8.95) Hot & Sour Soup ($9.95) Apple Juice ($3) Jasmine Tea ($2 per person) OVERALL I would definitely come back. It's not always easy to write a well balanced review when a business is less than three months old and is still in the process of smoothing out their operation. I want to be fair to the business so they may continue to improve and grow but at the same time, I want to be accurate for other yelpers so they have an idea of what to expect. We arrived at around 12:30 on a Wednesday afternoon. There were two employees standing outside, hovering around the sign-in clipboard. All of the outside tables were occupied except for a two-top and a four-top. There appeared to be a couple of 4-tops and at least one 2-top available inside the restaurant. The two employees discussed who was going to sit where and called out names. We stood by and watched as the employee holding the clipboard had her back to us. A couple of names that were called did not step forward. One name that was called didn't understand the way that her name had been pronounced and stepped up to ask if she had been called. This caused another discussion about a woman who had just been seated outside. It was pretty amusing to watch but then we weren't on a lunch break. After they figured everything out, the server with the clipboard left the clipboard hanging from the front door handle. The only thing she had asked me was what my name was and before I could tell her, she was distracted by someone else. There was no pen on the clipboard but I had one so I wrote my name down and then we moved out of the doorway. As soon as we did, another couple walked up to and in the front door, missing the clipboard altogether. Fortunately, one of the servers asked if they had written their name down. After they replied no, she looked at the board and called my name. The other couple left, saying they would return later. We sat at one of the four-tops inside. We waited a few minutes before menus were presented. We then waited about eight minutes before someone came to take our order. Once she entered the order into her notepad and verified the order with us, she went away and returned with our drinks, glasses and ice. I had also shown her that my eating saucer was chipped and I wanted it changed. She took care of that as well. She also taped a print out of our order to our table top. They would use this to check off each item as it was delivered. I would have expected the cold Jellyfish Salad to arrive first, especially since it's in the first section of the menu. That also would have given us something to munch on as we waited for the hot items. Nope, not to be. We got the Jelly fish last, just before everything else had been devoured. When the hot items came, they came out pretty close together. We ordered: Pork Xie Lung Bao - 5 - I really like that they offer 1/2 and full orders at a reasonable price. Don't get me wrong. This restaurant isn't inexpensive. However, a full order of 8 pieces is $14.95 while a 1/2 order is $7.95. Some places would charge a premium of $8.95 or even $9.95 for a 1/2 order. On the flip side, another restaurant that I reviewed recently only charges $7.50 for 6 pieces. Pricing disparity? Yes, but I guarantee that the rent in Walnut Creek is substantially higher too. I am disappointed that julienned ginger was not served at either restaurant. Little things do matter! Juicy Pork Bun - 4 - I love the texture of the wrapper. The filling is good but did not fill out the wrapper. If they made the wrapper tighter, then the Bun would appear smaller. Hard to decide which I'd prefer but I would order again anyway. Dry Shrimp, Egg and Chives Pockets - 4 - Flavor wise, spot on. Didn't really notice the dry shrimp if it was there. There was a problem with an apparent release of liquid, I'm guessing from the chives after cooking. This caused the underside of what should have been a crispy pocket to become soggy. I'm guessing that drying out the chives better would solve that problem. I recommend investing in a salad spinner. Ginger & Green Onion Noodle - 3 - Good flavor but we were confused. Was this dish supposed to be served hot or cold? It was luke-warm. Kind of a tweener. The flavor was good but mostly of soy sauce, sweet soy sauce and sesame oil. No ginger flavor and visually, very little green onion. To me, it was a good but simple dish of noodles and certainly not worth the $12.95 pricing. This restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, closed in between. I would venture to guess that survival will be dependent on repeat business. Shoppers in the downtown area as well as local employees. I think that their food is pretty good and will get better with time. Right now, running lunch service with only two servers is hurting them. If they take one person away from the demonstration kitchen for two hours from 11:30 to 1:30, and use that person to deliver orders and handle cashiering duties, that could free up the servers to take orders and not have to run around like the place is on fire. read more

Food is great and the service is just as amazing. They were fast and very nice every time I've eaten her. It was cool that we could see how they made their dumplings through the glass window. Definitely recommend the hot and sour pork xiao long baos and the ginger noodles! read more

Took a star off cause my soup dumpling had a hair....yikes. Imbedded in it so deep that the entire dumpling could dangle from it. So gross. Service: quick to take my order and address the hair issue Food: - Pan fried dumpling: WOW. Really good. Crispy bottom, TONS of soup inside. Absolutely delicious. Would come back again just to order this. (Same filling issues as the XLB). - Beef XLB: SKIP this. Beef filling tasted like mystery meat. - Pork XLB: Perfect little explosion of soup. Skin was great and elastic. The meat filling? Left a lot to be desired...Pork mystery meat. Would not order again. - Beef noodle soup (not spicy): not what I expected but tastes ok. Noodles good, lots of Q. A tad on the oily side. Overall, pretty satisfied with the food. 3 stars because while they had a few outstanding features, seems like majority is average. Great food and pretty fast service! The portion sizes are a bit small for the price and left me a bit hungry still. However, would still come back for the great flavors! The wait can be pretty long though during a dinner rush so I would put my name on the waiting list and walk around the town as I wait for my table. read more
