I've been on a dumpling hype lately and this spot hit it for me! We ordered the pork wonton soup, juicy pan fried pork buns that had some delicious taste to it, the pork xlb and then the shrimp, pork and chive dumplings. We came on a busy Saturday about an hour after they opened for dinner, but got seating in about ten minutes. Ordering was quick as it's all done through your phone. Food came out within ten minutes or so. It's all very by the numbers and quick. I enjoyed this a lot and look forward to coming back and trying more things off the menu. read more

I went here yesterday with my husband in hoping to get our first dumpling date as we hope to experience what we see online. They pointed a table for us but never gave us a menu and as a first timer, I didn't know there was a QR code for it. So I just wait there until I was told about it. I ordered the most popular items and I can say most of them are a bit overpriced for a fewer quantity given to us. Let me just say, the Thai tea was bland for its price and nothing special about their Xiaolong Bao compared to other places I saw recommended to me. The server just handed us our orders with no regards, and when it comes to the payment there was almost $10 tax for the 4 items we ordered. The recommended tip was minimum 18% of the order and since there was nothing special about our dining experience, I don't think such tip should be given. The lady had the nerve to ask what's wrong with the experience we had because I left the tip part blank and out of kindness, I gave them a few since it seems like a slow day for them. It's our first and would be last time here because the service was outrageous and doesn't deserve any kind of tip if they are just doing their job and not even doing their best to serve their customers. First time visiting this fine establishment to enjoy some delicious dim sum and dumplings. This restaurant came highly recommended and we weren't disappointed. While we weren't really fan of the potsticker style of the bao, the soup dumplings here were fantastic. The honey and I tried the hot and spicy (not really that spicy) as well as the pork, and the crab and pork (not noticeably different). But all dumplings were amazing. We actually ended up ordering more than we needed as their site didn't let you remove items once you'd added them to your basket, but we went with it, and no tears were shed at having extra Xiaolongbao I tell you what. Overall in terms of ordering both soup dumpling and bao we prefer Creek House, but for straight up dumplings alone Dumpling Hours is 100% where it's at. Especially since it's so easy these days to order online. read more

TLDR: good is good, price is high, and the wait can be long. -- At first glance, the place can seem small, but they can actually sit quite a number of people. However, you can definitely expect to wait if you try to eat here late morning or lunch time on the weekend. When inside, you can see the staff making the fresh dumplings and I can tell you the Xiao long baos do taste really good. We also order the pan fried ones, but tbh I don't think they are any better and I actually prefer the steamed ones. The Ginger & Scallion Noodles were good but very oily. Overall, the food tasted good, service was nothing special, and the price is kinda high. It's worth a try, but I don't see myself coming here regularly. read more

I got the Pork Xiao Long Bao, the pork pan fried buns, the ginger and scallion noodles, and Pork wonton w/ sesame oil. The Xiao Long Bao was a 7/10: great texture and soup, but pork was way too sweet. Same with the pork pan fried buns, 7/10 because it's too sweet, but good otherwise. The Ginger and scallion noodles was really flavorful and quite delicious but it was a bit oily - 8/10. The Pork Wonton with sesame oil had a lot of peanut sauce in it which wasn't my favorite - 6/10. Was in Walnut Creek recently for some errand and walked by Dumpling Hours while looking for a place to eat. I had not eaten lunch yet and was waiting on some friends at an appointment with 1.5 hours to kill. After seeing the crowd out the door waiting for a table and quickly scanning Yelp, I knew this was a winner! I was surprised the restaurant was still packed at 2PM but then again it was a Saturday. I normally don't dine alone but didn't mind putting down my name for a "table for one". I was seated promptly and given a laminated menu to review and was directed to a QR code on the table to order. I had to order the juicy pan-fried pork buns. These are usually round and flat but the ones I saw in the Yelp pictures and on almost every other table were huge. They were shaped like giant marshmallows or giant scallops. I love XLBs so I also ordered their pork xiao long bao's. To balance it out with some greens I also ordered their Brussels Sprouts with Truffle and Salt. Everything was ordered on the website via the QR code they directed me to. No payment was required but it was also a good idea to confirm your table. The food came out within 5 minutes and was piping hot, as my upper palate reminded me the rest of that day... The juicy pan-fried pork bun was delicious! The skin was thick and the bottom was perfectly fried to create a nice crisp. There was actually a lot of juice in the bun...Almost as much as the pork XLBs I ordered. They provide a large spoon that looked like a bowl to enjoy the XLBs in. The XLB fits perfectly in there. The challenge and frustration sometimes is the art of moving the XLB to the spoon from the bamboo steamer basket without puncturing it and spilling all the soup. Picking it up from the top worked well...the skin was thick enough to stretch but not so thin where it ripped. It also peeled nicely off of the wax paper. There was a lot of soup in the XLB and good thing I had the spoon to most of it all. I say most of it because some of the soup was squirting in multiple directions! This was definitely a 2-napkin or even 3-napkin type of meal! The Brussels sprouts were also really good! There was just a slight hint of truffle flavor...was hoping for a bit more but it was still very tasty and uniquely complemented the meal. I also ordered a pot of loose-leaf jasmine tea. All in all, a great dining experience here at Dumpling Hours. Don't let the long lines deter you from giving this place a try. The restaurant looks deceptively small from the front but there are a handful of tables in the back too. The service was friendly, attentive, and the food came out quick. So the food taste is great, but the restaurant can do a little better. I came here with friends for Sunday lunch last month and there was a super long line. It was a hot day too and the earliest available table was one that was outside. We ordered a bunch of food for the table, but I forgot particularly which ones. The only thing I can recall were the Juicy Pan-Fried Pork Buns, those were excellent and my favorite thing I ate. We ordered Xiao Long Bao too, but our server didn't warn us of the scalding hot juice inside the bao, when I bit into it, it squirted extremely hot liquid around my mouth and nose! It hurt so bad! They seriously need to warn customers for safety reasons. My friend told me later on that I guess you're supposed to pinch it open first and let the liquid spill out a bit before eating which I didn't know beforehand. Service can be a little better, since it was a hot day, we were in desperate need of water, but when we asked for ice, our server didn't want to bring us out any. I've always wanted to try Dumpling Hours while shopping around in Walnut Creek and finally got the chance to on a Thursday evening. Me and a friend went over around 8 and there was a little bit of a wait to get seated. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and are pretty busy along with doordash pick ups too. The service is typical of your Asian restaurants and the kitchen it very small. We started off with the dry fried chicken wings (super crispy) and cucumber salad, both were really good and I'd recommend. We also got the Beef Shank with Spiced Sauce, it's a cold dish and I don't think I really liked it personally, I feel like I prefer beef shank in a soup or dish and warm or with rice and noodles. And we ordered the crab and pork xiao long baos which were really freshed and pretty good with their sauce. If I were to come back I would get the wings, cucumber salad, and would want to try their pan fried pork buns as well as their noodles and of course their XLBs. Parking can be tough, there's some street parking if you're lucky, if not then going straight to a parking garage and walking will be much easier and saves you the hassle of driving around. Damn this place is ridiculous. We came on a work day spontaneously and it was busy but food came out SO quick and was so tasty. We had the xiao long bao's and the ginger scallion noodles and the spicy beef noodle soup. You can't go wrong with ANY of them. The green beans are also a bit on the oily side but super tasty. Would suggest dining here - the food loses much of it's flavor and goodness when you do take-out (I've done it multiple times now) and it's not the fault of the restaurant but due to the type of hot fresh food - especially the Xiao Long Bao's - the soup dumplings - you don't want those to-go, they totally get misshapen, stuck to each other and the soupy goodness on the inside evaporates. We decided to try this place out for lunch and ordered XLB, string beans, sheng jian bao, wontons w/sesame sauce & chili oil and pan fried dumplings. They were all decent but on the fillings were all on the sweet side which is not what I'm use to for dumplings. None of the dumplings were memorable for me. FINALLY a legit Shanghai style spot in Walnut Creek! This place is consistently busy, but not too busy that you're waiting an hour. This is now my 4th time coming since they opened. :) It was pretty cool to see downtown slow on a Sunday and this restaurant almost fully packed. The juicy pork dumplings are our favorite thing on the menu, best I've had anywhere - those crispy bottoms and delicious juicy center!! :drool: Their soup dumplings have just the right texture skin and a ton of soupy filling. They know what's up. Oh, and obviously the green beans. I haven't found any green beans that live up to Kingdom Of Dumpling (SF), but these are close. Everyone has been raving about this place and I finally got to check it out. This place has definitely lived up to all the hype. It's a small place in downtown Walnut Creek so not a ton of seating if you have more than 4 people but they really get people in and out fast. The xiao long bao dumplings are so good. The have a filling and a broth on the inside. The hot and spicy pork is to die for. The beef was also very good and they pack so much flavor into these things. I also had the ginger and scallion noodles which were also great. I saw everyone getting the juicy pork buns which are fried on the bottom. So I have to try those next time. Xiao long bao quickly became a favorite of mine after trying it at din tai fung and then exploring more mom and pop XLB shops. However, after you try a couple of places, you often see the same type of dumplings and sides. Dumpling Hours had a couple of different XLB's and appetizers that I haven't seen before and was excited to try out. Some notable standouts included the truffle XLB, the shredded potato salad and this Jasmine Tea lager. The truffle XLB is sooo good if you're a truffle lover, the truffle flavor shines well. The shredded potato salad was also very interesting as the potatoes were just slightly blanched so you get a small crunch but it doesn't taste raw. When I go to Walnut Creek, I'll def try this place again. read more

It's not terrible - the staff actually aren't the problem. My suspicion is that management - and the decision to double the number of orders by allowing online ordering despite how busy the restaurant already is - is to blame for the shoddy service. Outstanding soup dumplings, worth the 30 minute drive from our home. They have a variety of gyozas (pork, chicken, shrimp, vegetarian), soup dumplings, green onion pancakes and noodles.
