Garlic green beans
Michele F.

A friend and I went here for dinner last night. We got an order of garlic green beans, which were nice and garlicky, then we each got our own order of dumplings. I got the chicken and cabbage and my friend got the vegan dumplings. My dumplings were good, but I thought the green beans were the star of the meal. My friend is vegan and raved about her dumplings. Customer service was top notch. Overall, it's a solid choice for a meal if you're in the area.

Was in the area and looking for some quick food and found it thru Yelp, went here at around 6/7 and we were seated instantly. There was one other group before we got there and another group came in while we were eating. The place is nice, and it has parking right outside. I would say the place is nice but minimally decorated. The lady who served us was very nice and friendly and told us all about her business and how it's been open for 10 and a half years and about all the businesses near us. She even recommended for us to try the dessert place next door (our place), which we had already planned to do so how perfect. Overall all the food was really good and the service was soo nice and lovely. Green beans 8/10. We compared them to din tai fungs green beans, and to me I preferred these as they were a bit lighter and felt healthier and less oily. Shrimp pork chives dumpling - 8. The wrappers were thicker than I am used to which I didn't mind bc it made it so the dumplings didn't break as easily. The insides were really good, I liked taking a bite and being able to see the shrimp bite. Pork and mushroom mixed noodle 6/10. The lady rhat served us remarked that the noodles were freshly made when we got served them and my friend remarked they tasted well hand made. I thought it had a stronger mushroom flavor than I expected. This dish comes with all the different parts seperately and you're able to combine it all in the bowl as you want. We just dumped it all in and thought it was good that way

What a hidden gem! My boss wanted to have a team lunch in Edmonds and found this spot online. When we first pulled up we were a bit hesitant but don't be alarmed by the parking lot. Upon arriving (they open at noon) we were a bit early so ended up having the restaurant to ourselves. The woman working was fantastic and provided great service. We tried the pork fried rice, the chicken chow mein (she let us know they make their own noodles), the green beans and shrimp/pork/chive dumplings. Everything was so tasty and we had enough to bring home for a couple other meals after the three of us ate a ton. We will definitely be back and sharing with all of our co workers how great this place is.

How I heard of this place: We first learned about Dumpling Generation at their Third Place Commons location, and sampled one dish, which we loved. When it was recommended by friends wanting to go out to dinner, we jumped on the opportunity! Type of cuisine: "A Northern Chinese restaurant that specializes in hand-made dumplings and noodles." ""Mian" means both "flour" and "noodle" in Mandarin Chinese. "Shi Dai" is a play on words of the phrase meaning "Generation". The "shi" is usually the character 时 meaning time but has been changed to "shi" 食 meaning food. So directly translated 面食代 means flour or noodle generation but since flour is also used to make dumplings, we have chosen "Dumpling Generation" as the English name due to the popularity of dumplings in the area at the moment. Northeast China has historically produced much of the commercial food grains and economic crops for all of China. Therefore, people traditionally eat many flour-based foods, such as dumplings and noodles. It's also very cold in this region so fermented dishes such as pickled cabbage aka "sauerkraut" is consumed in the winter. Our family is originally from the Liaoning province of the People's Republic of China. We previously owned a restaurant in Anchorage, Alaska called "China Town", which was featured in the "Anchorage Daily News" three times. The restaurant was known for its authentic Chinese food menu although we did sell mainly American Chinese food (not proud of it but it's what the people wanted!). Many Chinese government officials and ambassadors have eaten at "China Town" restaurant, as well as world renowned pianist "Lang Lang" who was only 22 years old at the time. He's a fan of the sauerkraut with pork belly :) Chinese restaurants often have a bad rep for being dirty, oily, unhealthy, and full of MSG. Cleanliness is our top priority and we only use the best ingredients. We use only chicken breast for any dish that calls for chicken (including our chicken dumplings). We ground our own ground pork from sirloin and pork belly. And if a supplier isn't providing us with the freshest ingredients, we find somebody else who can. MSG DISCLOSURE: We don't use msg but there are trace amounts of it in the chicken soup base we use in some dishes. If you'd like to be MSG free just ask if we can omit the chicken soup base in whatever you are ordering. We'll try our best to accommodate your needs. Nothing here is deep fried or cooked in a way that will make you feel awful after eating it (except for maybe feeling too full but we told you not to order that much!) We hope to see you here!" Ambiance: Minimalist interior with little to boast about. But understand this: behind the lack in interior design is where the magic happens - the focus is all on the food - quality, ingredients and taste. Tables and chairs, including space for large parties welcomes patrons to the elongated, rectangular space with bare walls, recessed lighting and digital images of a selection of menu items interspersed throughout. What I ordered: We left the ordering to our friends, who are regulars at Dumpling Generation, and were happy with the turnout. We had Vegetable Chow Mein, Chicken Fried Rice and Bok Choy. Then, the piece de resistance - Pork & Chive Dumplings, Pork & Cabbage Dumplings, and an off-menu beef dumpling recommended by our server (possibly the owner). What I loved: The bok choy was easily our favorite dish of the entire meal, followed closely by the fried rice, then the chow mein. The dumplings are delectable, melt-in-your-mouth good and full of rich, flavorful soup. Why I loved it: Friendly service, clean space and quality food. I love it more, now, in writing the review for my mouth waters and I salivate at the thought. Perhaps another visit is in order. Cost: Average to high

Pros: authenticity, food quality food, generous portion, easy parking, they take Apple Pay! Cons: not much, maybe food is a little bit on the salty side (I've already asked for less salt and still found it slightly too salty.)

First time here and we loved it! The dumpling peels were nice and bouncy and filling was tasty. The noodles also had great flavor and texture. All skins and noodles seem to be made in house. The sampler platter was good to start, a little salty for us but overall fine. The owners were super nice and attentive, lots of nice pictures up and cute signs to warn us dumplings were hot. Will definitely be coming back!

Inside was rather functional and we were seated right away that lunch hour. Menu contained a good variety of fried and soup noodle dishes. The fried noodles were also served with a side of broth. I originally wanted wonton soup but deviated at the last minute to try their Dan Dan noodles. My daughter got the beef noodle and wonton soup that she liked. My Dan dan noodles was served with the same soup noodles and topped with a saucy ground pork and veggies. The pork packed a good amount of heat that I liked and enough to coat all the noodles. I personally preferred a thicker noodle but overall a good dish. The same lady who seated us took the order, served us, refilled our waters, rang up the sale and cleaned up afterwards. I'd come back here again.

Ignoring the fact that we were the only diners, which is ok these days with many opting for take-outs, I thought the food should be ok. Alas, their food is authentic adjacent but "not it". They look like they should be good, but the tastes are off. I should have guessed things aren't quite right, when the staff struggled to answer my simple question that any normal wonton shop would have understood. The interior is basic and quiet. During our time dining, only one other diner arrived. The Food: Wonton and Beef Brisket Noodle Soup, $14 - 3.5 Stars The beef briskets are reasonably tender. The wontons are acceptable with pork and shrimp fillings. The egg noodles are legit. Soup (or Spicy) Dumplings Noodle Soup, $14 - 2 Stars The Chinese name on the menu calls this Original Soup Sui Gow Noodle. This is a genuine and very good noodle soup at other places. Theirs is not it. The broth is not "original soup", which is a fish-based broth. Theirs is meat-ish, but not meaty and certainly not fish-based broth. It tasted off and weird. The dumplings are not sui gow. They are glorified larger wontons with pork and shrimp. A sui gow typically has Chinese black mushrooms and/or woodear fungus for a varying texture in the bite. The one authentic ingredient of this dish is the egg noodles. Garlic Chicken Wings, 6pc, $12 - 4 Stars These are good - crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. Not too garlicky but still good. This dish rescued this meal. Lettuce Fish Meat Soup, $12.50 - 1 Star This dish is normally a popular HK street food dish. This dish is not that. The fish pieces lacked flavor and seasonings. The broth, again, is not fish-based but the same meat-ish flavor, same as the dumplings noodle soup. I wish I never ordered this.

I was SO excited when I spotted taro puff on one of the carts. Not every dim sum restaurant carries it, which is tragic because it's easily one of my favorite dishes. These were perfect. The had a crispy, lacy exterior with that light, fluffy taro filling inside and a savory center. I immediately grabbed a plate and was prepared to eat the entire thing if no one else wanted to try it. The siu mai was solid and flavorful, the har gow had a nice translucent wrapper with juicy shrimp inside, and the chicken feet were especially good. They were very tender, well seasoned, and cooked just right. The steamed spareribs were another standout. They were super flavorful and not overly fatty. Overall, this is exactly what I want in a dim sum experience with the bustling atmosphere, carts rolling around, and all my favorite classics (taro puff!).
