I just stumbled upon this hidden gem for lunch today and can't wait to go back for dinner. They had about 20 lunch specials which consist of an entree, large serving of steamed white rice and soup. Not fancy, but delicious. In fact, it was the best hot & sour soup I've had in years. Their condiment round also includes vinegar and chili paste. Their regular dinner menu is huge and includes rare finds such as cumin lamb. It is much larger than it appears from the outside and even has a large room for get-togethers. read more

After years of wishing for good, close, family-style Chinese food, my family and I finally stopped in at Fortune Inn, after driving by it for all of those years. What a treat it turned out to be! We ordered: Fried rice (house special), Chow mein (house), Cashew chicken, Sweet & sour chicken, Dim sum, Pan fried dumplings, Chinese donut, and Jasmine green tea. Everything was delicious. Our server was sweet and helpful, and took great care of us. Our waters were constantly refilled and she was never too far away. The restaurant itself was peaceful and quite clean. We decided to give our local "old school" Chinese restaurant another try after new ownership began. We had gone to the old Fortune Inn for years and then the quality began slipping and they eventually closed shop (retired?). Now we see it open again and some comments on our local Nextdoor site said there's new ownership and the food quality is better than the old one. We had Orange Chicken, Cashew Nuts Chicken, Chow Mein Noodles with Chicken, Boiled Fish in Spicy Garlic Broth, Taro Dumplings and some Jasmine Green Tea for dinner. Overall, I love the locally owned small shop atmosphere here and the convenience to my home. The food is pretty normal American Chinese fare and served rapidly with healthy portions. I enjoyed everything I tried and can see they were doing booming take out business while we were there. The only employee I saw was the woman (with her two cute toddlers at the front area) who was hustling the entire time. I thought the food was normal tasting, not great but not bad. They could use some more staff to help out the lone woman employee we saw and a barrier between the front door and dining area so the diners don't get an Arctic blast of cold air whenever the front door opens (this happened a lot while we were dining at our table). I love supporting the local smaller establishments and give a big thank you to Fortune Inn for giving a small well-loved restaurant a second chance in Kenmore. read more

One of my major missing in Kenmore area was good Chinese food. We either have to drive to Kirkland or Bothell. I am glad to have found this gem. The food was excellent. Everything we ordered was perfect. The spicy fried fish was probably the best I have had. It was not too greasy and had the perfect spice level. My 6year old found it spicy and yet kept asking for more :) The portions are huge. Just 2 dishes and it was more than enough for 3 of us. My only concern with this place was the service. There was only one person who seemed to be managing everything and had 2 kids around as well. They took some time to take order and then there were no follow ups :) The rice was not hot enough when served. Considering they just opened, they probably need some patience :) Overall a pleasant experience! Would definately come back again to try out other dishes as well! read more

New owner Belle is the best. Warm, hospitable, and either a great cook or has a nose for hiring one. I don't know if the decor is new, but its beautiful. The outside is how I like it-a hole-in -the-wall looking spot, but inside offers understated black and white calm. I'm writing this after just one taste because I was in the neighborhood for a rare stopover and while I will look for opportunities to come back, I don't know how long it will take and I want you to support this great spot soon. The boiled fish in spicy garlic broth was outstanding. Light, just spicy enough to light you up but not cloud the palate. Lightly fried white fish was not fishy, perfectly cooked, moist and flavorful. Dan dan noodles were good too. I love a surprise, and I am greedy, so there being enough extra sauce packed with them for us to boil more noodles and have dinner again the next day was a treat. We ordered the noodles without pork and Belle is such a pro she stopped to let us know the flavor would be different than we might be used to. Dim Sum to order all day was a nice surprise. My Take-out experience has been excellent both food and service. I had have the Moo Shoo pork, orange chicken, sweet & sour shrimp, chicken fried rice ' all very good. We haven't been in in a few years, and under new management decided to give it a try. The restaurant was in good shape, nothing special. I would echo what some others have said, there appears to be only 1 person on a Friday night handling the entire dining room plus delivery orders. She is really great, and so nice to my daughter, but stretched a little too thin. Having 2 servers or 1 server + 1 host would be a big plus. We ordered the following: General Tso's chicken - excellent, flavorful, interesting Pork fried rice - excellent, flavorful, not too heavy Mongolian beef - tender but a little on the bland side, no kick Garlic green beans - couldn't really taste much garlic - could use more flavor, and also overpriced for just beans We had a nice meal and enjoyed ourselves. I hope they stick around and make some minor improvements, in which case we'll be back regularly. read more

New ownership! Opened in July 2023. Don't judge them by it's outside and the history of this place. But if you live in Kirkland, Bothell, Kenmore, Woodinville, this is prob one of your own two options for dim sum. This one is cheaper than the other location lol but tastes great! They also have other non-dim sun options such as authentic Chinese spicy food. Their spicy fish dish is really good, as well as their green beans. We will def come back again to try more of their dishes. If you compare this place with all the Asian restaurants you been to it's above average but for this area and it's lack of Asian food, it's the best. Average at best. Honestly the Chinese at Safeway down the street was much more satisfactory considering the huge price difference. Minus one star. Taste wise, also just on par with the Safeway down the street. Also they forgot to pack my soup for my lunch combo, minus one star. I remember the previous owner food and it was fairly good. This is new ownership and the food is definitely authentic. Wonderful taste, texture and flavorful. I'm going to be returning many more times. The staff was wonderful knowing the menu she asked what we liked and then had suggestions. I really enjoyed my Sunday lunch and plan to return. Horrible experience, ordered a bunch of dim sum, over $100+, was given spoiled beef tripe, the most sour disgusting putrid smell I've ever experienced coming from food. There's no way that should have been served nor cooked. Ended up getting sick because I took a bite eating fast while working.. no other food was touched other than two shumai in my bowl which had the beef tripe on it. It was thrown out. Anyways. The food was brought back, and they made us still pay for the food that was barely even touched. After selling rotten food. Also gave my finance a hard time, extremely rude. Will never eat here or recommend this place to anyone. Should be shut down. They need a full inspection from food and health. !!!!!Beware!!!! read more

Food is without a doubt good, but there is usually only one person doing everything. Terrible management in food preparation and timing. Receive one dish then another 5 minutes later. One time we got spring rolls. Then 10 minutes laters we got one more dim sum plate. 5 minutes later one more comes out. Then the rest a few minutes later. Good food, nice people, but Im tired of their inability to serve their food properly. read more

This is hands down the best restaurant I've ever been to. I now live in San Diego and when friends visit they bring it to me! The BBQ Pork appetizer is my favorite food in the entire world and doesn't exist outside of the PNW. If I could leave zero stars, I would. We live in the neighborhood and we have gone to the Fortune Inn many times over the past 20 years. Today we found out that the restaurant has been sold to a new owner. We arrived about 4:30 PM and found no other customers in the restaurant. The bar does not have a license, at this time, so it was empty as well. We ordered a couple, of dim sum dishes for our appetizer and the hot and sour soup we could share between the two of us. The soup arrived and it was evident that it had been cooked days or weeks before and the flavor was that of dirty dish water. We tried to add different flavorings from the table to get past the strong black soy sauce flavor. We ordered spicy wonton, and another appetizer Siu Mai King, that the server told us was pork. It was definitely not pork and tasted like a mixture of shrimp, which is not something we would normally order or like. We ordered two bottles of beer and the price of those bottles were similar in price of buying 12 bottles at the corner store. We ordered a pot of green tea and it tasted good, but for the $3.50 I could've done without tea. We decided not to order any main courses after we literally ate four spoons of soup and one each of the Wontons. The restaurant was very cold. I mentioned it to our server, but he obviously didn't understand much, English, and we never felt heat. While we were there, over an hour and a half, we saw one pick up order and no other customers. The health department report, from November 2, 2023, gave them an excellent rating. We figured it was because they hadn't used the kitchen much and nothing was dirty and no food needed to have the proper temperatures. We will not recommend this to any of our friends or family as well, as not recommending this restaurant, with new ownership, in our neighborhood. My family loves this restaurant. Ever since The Fortune Inn came under new ownership, its food and service have been amazing. We all especially love their fried rice, spicy Singapore-style noodles, garlic stir-fried Chinese broccoli and Chonqing Spicy Crispy Fish--even my 2-year-old devours it all. This is a wonderful family-operated business and is great for both dining in and taking out. We go nearly weekly. It's wonderful to have this great neighborhood dining option in Kenmore. read more

Fast forward to Feb 2024 and now another new owner. Food is not as good and portions are not as generous. Obvious signs of shortcuts. The former owner built up the clientele and was doing great. New owner providing discount version of the food. I ordered mongolian beef and got mongolian onions. I ordered won ton soup and got two won tons 4 broccoli and some carrots with lots of broth. My wife and I love this place! It changed ownership and was nicely renovated recently. Their dim sum is excellent and they serve it all day. We love their Honey Walnut Shrimp, Cilantro and shrimp dumplings, siu mai, Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, bbq pork buns and the sesame balls. Their prices are very reasonable and you get a lot of food. To top it off, the staff are super nice and attentive. Great customer service. This is our go to for Chinese and Dim Sum. read more

The Fortune Inn had a relatively long history in Kenmore as a place to get good Cantonese food close to Bothell and Lake Forest Park. When the old owners retired and sold the restaurant many former customers felt they had lost a great resource. We felt it was important return to Fortune Inn and try to find the truth. We were pleasantly surprised. We went for early dinner on a cold, rainy Sunday afternoon. The restaurant is located in an old wooden building next to a commercial area in the woods east of the Bothell Highway in Kenmore. It is not attractive. Inside the restaurant is very clean and well painted. We were warmly welcomed and given several different menus. Because the place was a little cold we were directed to the back room where we settled into a very comfortable booth. A young Chinese lady was our server and brought us tea and helped us choose items from the menu. She was very pleasant and insured everything was done well and we were happy. We ordered a couple of dim sum items from a limited dim sum offering to start. The shrimp dumplings were excellent and the spicy wonton were very tasty. We followed with cashew chicken, beef chow fun, gailan with oyster sauce, and spicy tofu. We ordered two bowls of rice which were extra. The food came quickly and was very good. Over all the food was good and the service was excellent. The atmosphere was comfortable. It felt very much like home. We will return and try new items from the menus. My husband and I have been going to this restaurant for 30 years and I do know that they have new owners. We have gone there recently and it was ok BUT Friday night we went and we walked out! 1 waitress, one cook and a party in the back, people waiting for take out - up to an hour and it was not busy in the actual restaurant. We waited almost an hour and I told the waitress we were leaving! we won't go back. They need to have more people working there especially on the weekends! Horrible service and staff in a constant panick mode! NEVER GOIND BACK. It is nothing like it was when Ping owned it! read more

I ordered dim sum via grubhub however I received a call from the restaurant that one of the items I ordered was sold out and if I wanted to replace it with something else. I asked for a small congee and they said okay. When it arrived it was a large congee and even though it cost a little more than what I originally ordered they gave it to me at no extra charge. I've been fighting a cold so this is exactly what I needed. I would say the dim sum is good but the congee is delicious! read more

I've lived 2 minutes away from Fortune Inn for 10 years. Previously, the food was OK, especially in a pinch. I just ordered for the first time since the change of ownership and I have to say I'm blown away. The good is so much better. It's definitely the best Chinese food in the Finn Hill/south Kenmore area. This makes me so happy. I'm going to be eating so many dumplings. They're heavenly! The owners are super nice, too. I ordered online and they called me to let me know that there was a delay for some of the dumplings I ordered, and they called to give me updates so I knew when they were ready. The inside looks really nice and clean as well, even though it's an older place. If you went before the ownership change you'll definitely see the difference. read more
